[PreOrder] Google Pixel 9 Pro XL 128GB $147 on 24-Month 300GB/M $99/M JB Plan (Port-in/New Customers, In-Store Only) @ JB Hi-Fi

2400

As spotted in the carousel banner on the JB website, get $1700 off any Google Pixel 9 Pro XL - unsure if you get the pre order bonus ($350 JB gift card) confirmed

As confirmed in the last JB Telstra deal, the cancellation would be $766.59 + $147 Google Pixel 9 Pro XL + $99 for the first month fee = $1012.59 for the newly launched Pixel phone!

This deal is excellent for those who want to take advantage of the $766.59 cancellation fee, or the phone plan being paid by the employer.

  • Vodafone and Google have higher trade in value for pixel 7 256gb.
I wonder if anyone has done the maths to see how they compare and what the total out of pocket would be

    • Wouldn't this deal be better anyways … You get to keep the old phone as well as get new phone at discounted price.

      • Ah yeah so the telstra plan is questionable as we see above that the cancellation fee and promo isn't clear.

        • +1

It’s not questionable as I’ve linked a more recent deal where an OzBargainer hopped onto the deal and only got charged $766.59 for the cancellation fee

I’ve also linked a comment from a JB/TGG employee that has confirmed it as well

          • @BargainsGrabber: Just wondering if we can do a live chat with Jbhifi sales and ask about cancellation charges and keep that screenshot as proof. Not sure if they would be happy to provide cancellation details though.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Don’t think you can ask them via live chat since it’s an in store only offer

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Cancellation details have to be on the contract you sign anyway so you can always review it there.

  • How does international roaming works with this plan? Is it same like other standard roaming with Telstra?
    Anyone got idea?

    • Exactly like any other Telstra plan.

      • Are you sure you don't mean $10/day?

        • oops sorry. I meant to say $10/m for adding the international calls option. Deleted my comment.

  • Would the gift card amount be $1700? And the $800 is purely the cap for the repayment?

ie. Repayment fee if cancel in month 1 = the lesser of $1700 * 23/24 or $800 so it would be 800? Rather than 800 * 23/24

    • +2

Want to confirm on this too before purchasing

  • +1

I still think it's a risk if Telstra decide to update their terms which they can

What happens when I cancel my plan early?
You’ll need to repay Telstra for any vouchers you received when you purchased your plan. The Voucher Repayment Fee (if applicable) is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by months (or part months) remaining in your plan term.

  • too risky!

    • No it’s not.

  • +3

If process is same with Good Guys. JB and Telstra systems dont talk to each other. They will charge cancel fee based on 99 plan. Telstra don't care/know what voucher JB gave you. Just cancel on telstra live chat. No need to even mention JB.

  • I really hate how companies do this, where being an existing customer means you miss out. Like, I'm month to month with JB right now so I guess I don't qualify for this?

    • No. JB defines a new customer as someone who hasn’t been with them for at least 30 days. So, even if you were to port out, unfortunately, you’re SOL.

      • Ridiculous, and ironically makes me want to change providers out of spite.

        • +3

Fcuk JB off and go with Boost.

      • Not true. There’s nothing on the system to stop you porting back in. The rules say no so if you tell the employee they’ll have to tell you the 30 day quote but go in, say you’re porting from another provider and you will get the gift card.

        • I’ve seen several comments from people who were rejected because it was less than 30 days. Perhaps I should’ve noted YMMV.

          • @Maths Debater: Because they told the staff they were previously on Telstra. They do not want to know about the loop holes you find and exploit but they do want to sell you plans.

    • If you have an old Telstra account but hardly ever use Telstra are you considered an existing customer and ineligible for this deal?

      • No. It isn’t account specific it’s phone number specific.

  • +3

How's the invoice presented? Can I claim the full phone (i.e. total GST value) as a TRS refund, or just the is the phone price shown net of the 'gift card'

    • Full RRP on invoice (from previous deals)

      • o thanks i missed this. is the invoice date when u receive the phone or when u sign up ?

        • +1

Phone invoice is when you receive/claim the phone

          • @snvl: You able to share / outline how the invoice is itemized?
Just 1 line with the RRP of the phone?
            Giftcard amount then outstanding amount?
if so does the giftcard show who owns the giftcard ? or just generic?

            • +1

@arman1201: It was from previous deal and it was free phone ( not like this deal that you need to pay $147)

Just 1 line with full RRP and 1 line paid with online gift card.

              Just generic gift card

  • Hopefully we see the similar iphone deal come back soon

  • -3

iPhone 15 Pro money for a Pixel. Funniest shit I’ve seen all day.

    • +3

And they want $840 for a 45mm Pixel Watch which cant even be repaired officially. What the actual F!

      • No doubt #TeamPixel will have an excuse for that one.

    • +1

Funnier that anyone pays iPhone Pro pricing!

      New Phone Feeling! 😂

  • So is the early cancellation fee of $800 been confirmed by anyone or based on previous deals?

    • These are conditions from jibhifi page ..

*Available to port-in and new customers only (excluding JB Upfront/Prepaid, The Good Guys Mobile & Broadband, Telstra or Boost). The $1800 off the purchase price of a Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold Phone (referred to as the “JB Hi-Fi Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions) will be applied to the purchase price of a Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold Phone and available to you instore after connection approval by Telstra. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term. This offer is not available in conjunction with any other JB Hi-Fi mobile or broadband offer or trade-in coupon offer. Excludes Pixel 9/9 Pro XL models. Visit jbhifi.com.au/mobile-plan-offers for a list of eligible products. Available instore only. Offer ends 21 Aug 2024

      • +2

This one says excludes Pixel 9 / 9 Pro Xl

      • I'm still trying to work out the required payment to telstra upon cancellation haha

        • Max $800.

    • +1
  • Pity it's only for XL.

    • Yes…I want the 9 Pro instead.

      • Deal is also live for 9 Pro. There’s deals across the range.

        • Where? Or you meant Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL?

          • @beOson: And Fold. 9 Pro has no release date yet. Deal TBC.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yea we're talking about the 9 Pro here :)

              • @beOson: The comment was saying the deal was only for 9 XL :)

                • @[Deactivated]: You literally just typed 'Deal is also live for 9 Pro' in your comment earlier though…got me excited.

Anyway, given that they've got deals for both the 9 and 9 Pro XL (the two models that got realised officially), I might wait for the 9 Pro's actual release date and see if there's a similar deal for it.

Ozbargainers queueing at JB waiting for the phone sale reminds me of the wildebeest river crossing

"This looks great, I'm going to get over. Has anyone confirmed it's safe?"

  • Do you have to sign up for this in store or can you do it online?

    • Says 'Available in-store only' in the T&C.

  • Do Pixels have something like Samsung Dex (where the phone effectively becomes a laptop when hooked up to a monitor / tv)?

    • +1

      nope

    • +2

Google doesn't even have a high end tablet like Samsung and Apple, let alone a Dex equivalent.

    • +2

Since the newest Android update, Pixel phones starting from the Pixel 8 have at least display output via usbc. However this is simply a screen output, not putting out a special desktop like mode as Dex.

There are some more features in beta versions of Android 15 but noone knows for sure if they will (ever) be included in future final Android updates.

  • This being a pre order, considering we get phone on 22nd August and even the plan starts on that day, guess we only get confirmation on that day if the cancellation is actually capped to 800 ?

  • +8

Confirmed with JB - you do get the $300 JB gift card pre order bonus

    Signing up now

    • $300 or $350?

      • +1

        $300

        • +1

Carousel banner says "Get a bonus $350 JB Hi-Fi gift card when you pre-order or buy a Pixel 9 Pro XL by 25/8/24!*"

          • @ltwo: My bad, let me check again with them as I just left the CBD store but I did see in the offer page that we do get the JB gift card pre order bonus

    • Hey BG sent you a PM - any ideas?

      • Hey KT, I did see your message - preferably if you can reach out to TA please

    • Even if we do the early cancellation and pay the $766/$800 fee?

      • +4

It’s on the JB offer plan when you ask to show it to you in store
Also confirming that the ETC is $800, I’ve asked them to print it out but I already knew beforehand based on past experience

        • +1

          Thanks BG!

        • -1

You will need to update this post description then to reflect this latest info.

          • @cloudie9: While ETC shows as $800, and if you hop onto live chat to cancel it’s always lower

I can’t confirm the exact number just yet as I’m waiting to get the phone in hand first before I cancel

    • +3

      Doing fantastic work, thanks BG

  • And just to confirm, you cannot trade in on top of this? No uniday discounts stakable?

  • +2

Can anyone clarify the actual process for doing this? I'm still rocking a 3XL and desperately need a new phone.

    1. I go in store and say I want to preorder the Pixel 9 Pro XL
    2. I ask what offer plans they have available and select the one that gives $1700 off the phone for a 24 month $99 plan
    3. I pay $147 for the phone and the first monthly payment of $99 (does this happen immediately or only after the phone is officially released?)
3.5 I receive a $300 JB hi-fi gift card? Says confirmed in the title but does this happen immediately when I preorder or after I receive the phone?
    4. I go home and wait for the plan to become active.
    5. Once active and I have my phone (will it be shipped to me or will I need to pick up in store?), I contact Telstra online and say I want to cancel my plan. They say okay but you will need to pay 23/24 of the maximum voucher owing amount of $800.
    6. I pay this and my plan is cancelled and I now have a phone and no plan.
    7. I use my existing Boost Sim card in my new Pixel.

Am I understanding all that correctly?

    • +1

I'm trying to get most of the same questions confirmed as well, there's so much conflicting info in this thread.

    • +10
      1. Yes
      2. Yes, they'll probably offer it to you anyway
      3. You pay straight away ($147 + $99)
3.5. You receive the $350 gift card when you pick up the phone
      4. Yes
      5. You pick it up in-store and call Telstra to cancel. You'll be charged max $800 (minus 1/24*800)
      6. Yes
      7. Yes
      • Thanks mate.

      • Number 8: we forgot to tell you NO!

  • +4

So all in all, the quoted number in my OP’s description less $300 JB at face value less GST because my mate is going overseas

So ~$545 for the pixel phone!

    • +1

      Hi it's me, your mate.

    • Are the steps what we will need to follow when in-store? Also, do we choose to get a new number when signing up for the 24-month $99 plan? This way when we cancel, we can just continue to use our original sim?

      • +1

Sorry I missed your comment, I’ve explained it below

If you’re planning to cancel, just sign up to a new number

    • @BargainsGrabber Don't think you can claim GST on the $800 plan cancellation fee, or can you?

      • Yes you’re right, you can’t claim the $800 cancellation fee but the JB invoice will show the $1847 phone price

    • Hi kindly ask for the GST part, as i plan to go overseas soon

On which invoice could we claim GST back? thanks

      • You’d claim the GST on the JB invoice

        • Thanks heaps

          And for the Pixel 1847?

          • @bravemeow: Yup, the $1847 price for the phone

Make sure to ask JB to put your details on the invoice to claim the GST back

            • @BargainsGrabber: Thanks again

And just realize that i could not purchase before the end date 25/8/2024 for claiming GST :(

I could not do GST and will do tax deduction then…

    • +2

Please note that if you go overseas, claim GST, and if you bring the phone back into Australia for which a GST refund via the TRS has been claimed, the phone/ goods must be declared, and if the value of those goods (combined with any other overseas/duty free purchases) exceeds the passenger concession allowance, any applicable GST and/or duty may need to be paid unless another concession (example, all personal clothing – except furs) is available.

      • Yeah, I am pretty confident that you would need to pay back the GST when you return (plus the GST on anything else you are bringing back). If you are playing by the rules (and claiming everything you are bringing back), you would actually end up paying more by trying to do this because you would artificially eat up your $900 tax free allowance when you return even if the amount without the phone would have been below the $900. This is because you don't just pay the tax on the amount less the $900 threshold. You pay tax on the whole amount once you go over.

        • Family of three brings tax free allowance to $2250.

          • @gamerkonks: That is fair, and may apply to some so worth pointing out.

  • @BargainsGrabber so I don't mess this up - what's the order of business when you go in-store, and how quickly after signing up can you cancel?

    I'm guessing

    1) Ask for plan, they sign you up and give you a voucher (the Telstra bit)
    2) You take voucher to desk, they give you a gift card (the JB Hi-Fi phone bit)
    3) You call up and cancel the plan

    Have I got that right?

    • +3

Ask to sign up to the plan (the lady saw my account with many cancelled services so I could be near to breaching the fair go policy)

Ask them to show you the pre order bonus offer before you sign up to the $1700 off plan

I wouldn’t cancel immediately until I have the phone in hand

      • Can we do this now? or only on the 22nd?

        • +1

Offer is already live and runs until the 21st
