First post, be gentle, etc, etc.

A couple things to be aware of before buying:

  • These are legit, just from a different region. Bootleg Switch carts don't exist (yet).
  • Box art, manuals, and other inserts are going to be in Chinese, Japanese, or something else. The game cart itself is multilingual, including an English option.

If none of that bothers you, and you just care about playing the game, then this deal is $10 cheaper than the last deal from Amazon.

Edit: If anyone is interested, here's a video from MrMario2011 (prominent YouTuber in the console modding community) that goes into more depth about AliExpress Switch game imports.

Didn't even know there were video games on Aliexpress until now. Interesting.

Yeah same. It's not super obvious. I also couldn't find any previous deals, not just this game, but for any game from AliExpress. It seemed worthwhile sharing haha.

Didn't even know there were video games

There’s a heap of counterfeit classics, GameBoy, SNES etc. Compete in (fake) box.

      • +2

Of course counterfeit retro games are a dime a dozen these days.

As far as the Switch goes, currently the only possible way to counterfeit carts is the MIG Switch, but the MIG + the required MicroSD card is more expensive than the legit carts, so the Switch is safe for now.

        • But some smart chinese can buy just 1 mig dumper, dump a game and put them in 100 empty "genuine " cartridges?

          • +1

@CyberMurning: If it were that simple, we would have heard about it.

            • @bobbi084: yep. not yet.
but see, the cost to make the shell and cover and manual are very little. they can dumps and make new shell for like $10 probably.

              • @CyberMurning: Or could they buy the game make a dump of it with mig , then sell the game , if the dump ends up on the net , wont your nintendo account with anything tied to it be banned ?

                • +1

@hawkdogg: Yes. Dumps means identical id so when 2 ids online together it means one is illegal and nintendo will just ban both not knowing who is the real owner.

                • @hawkdogg: I mean, there's no evidence that that's what's happening with this seller, but sure, that's technically a possibility I guess, although I fail to see the motivation for 1000s of the same game just different dumps being uploaded to the internet is.

But if that's the case, used games aren't safe either, so better not buy from EB Games or CeX then?

I think a better question is this: Why are you doing business with a company you're so worried will instantaneously ban you for something so out of your control? That's pretty anti-consumer of them.

          • @CyberMurning: According to the reviews, people have claimed coins from these carts, so they're unlikely to be dumps.

        • Around 12,000 consoles holding over 47 million pirated video games

Lol, counting games duplicated across 12,000 consoles as separate to inflate the total number to 47 million is sneaky journalism.

If that's how it works, I guess I'm screwed?

    (hmmm)

(wanting the game at this price, but not sure if aliexpress is trustable)

    • +3

Aliexpress mostly safe, as you can use Paypal to charge back, the issues are with some dodgy sellers.

    • If it's any reassurance, @Clear posted a deal from the same seller 3 weeks ago.

  • legit gamestop store? looks shady as hell

Haha, 7 year old daughter just playing Tetris on my home built arcade that's running retropie. Fun build and family likes it. They keep asking why just using 2 buttons and up down left right playing Mario (NES)

  • +2

i wouldn't be saying bootlegs don't exist, there is plenty of talk around of fake carts, have never seen one myself of course - but I would be quite wary buying a game from aliexpress

Jesus, plenty of speculation and hypotheticals going on in this comments section regarding this. I've yet to see any reliable evidence/source to back up any of these claims though.

Seriously, I thought this website liked bargains? Ya'll will happily jump through numerous amounts of tedious hoops to save a few dollars a month on Netflix, GamePass, and YouTube Premium subs, and even use sketchy key resellers which have known to be dodgy for years now.

But region-free imports are where you guys draw the line? Is it because it's China?

    • +2

Even if these are legit I think with the MIG Switch carts readily available now on AliExpress, the bargain min maxers will go that route instead (2x cost for unlimited number of games).

      • Of course! The MIG sounds great, but it's an investment for people who want to do what you say, and the people who buy the MIG know precisely what they're getting into. Nobody is selling MIGs loaded with a single game disguised as legit carts, that's just nonsense.

I don't really have any skin in the game here. I sold my Switch months ago after Nintendo did what Nintendo does, and went after Yuzu. As an avid Yuzu and Switch user who bought dozens of Switch carts (all brand new), it felt personal. A kick in the balls after years of support. After that, I decided I wasn't going to give Nintendo any more money.

I was simply sharing this deal as an option for others (like my mates, who still have Switches), and wanted to save a few bucks by buying imported. Nobody had posted an AliExpress deal like this before, so it felt like valuable information to be sharing.

I don't get all the scepticism and "what-if" scenarios, when all evidence points to the contrary. It all feels a little sinophobic if I'm being honest…

  • About The Game Card Version:
Dear customers: The currently available game card versions include Hong Kong version, Japanese version, American version, and European version. The only difference between them is the packaging, and the game content is the same. Due to inventory problems, we randomly send one of the four versions (all 100% original versions with the same supported language), thank you very much for your understanding

    Anyone bought this yet?
How long did/ date it say for your delivery?

  • I used this store at the time of your post to get Astral Chain for a reasonable $44. Despite the courier saying it's been signed for, it has not been delivered and I'm trying to resolve/refund now. Hope this is an outlier and not par for the course of discounted Switch games being too good to be true.

    • I got provided with a tracking number which I can't track on the AusPost website ( shows pending for some reason) , it turned out to be a tracking number for Singapore Post and on their website it shows the item has cleared the Australian custom but delayed due to delivery restrictions, which I have no idea what it means…

Called Australia Post and they told me to contact the seller because nothing they can do… and of course the sellers reply did not help… So I am kinda stuck.
