Nokia N9 $99 at Dick Smith Clearance

1360

DSE are clearing out the remaining N9 stock.
Probably not many left but is is a bargain at $99. You may need to phone around. I got one as its cheaper than fixing my cracked screen.

Old thread on the phone here:
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/66255

If you don't know what an N9 is, its probably not for you.

Out of stocks near my area.

  • +12

I purchased one this afternoon, didn't bother posting up as there was very little stock.

    Amazing price.

    • +24

Oh you must be joking, someone negged you….you will be damned if you do and damned if you don't. If you had posted and then no one could get stock it would have been the crime of the decade.

      • +6

        Exactly right.

      • +3

I almost did not post it for the same reason. But am glad at least a couple of people have been lucky.

        • May I know which store did u get this phone? Any stock left in that store?

        • +1

          Out of topic… great avatar!

  • +2

As of 2100 hrs Shepparton has stock

    great deal.. thanks

  • Couldn't find a single one in SE QLD… maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

    • Helensvale.

      • Yeah just low stock… so I'd have to fight you lot and everyone else for that one?? :P Not to mention I don't go to the coast until the weekend, so there's no way I'll be able to make it. :(

EDIT: Was checking out all the places I've driven to… hilariously, Lismore has stock.
…so if anyone lives southern GC or further, enjoy your two hour drive to Lismore? :P

        • +3

          ——-QLD——-
          Victoria Point
          Helensvale

        • Called up Victoria Point and they were all out of stock. Oh well!

The guy I spoke to at the store said that he's been getting calls all morning. He was extremely nice considering the number of calls he must have received!

  • +17

I don't need one at all but I still want to buy it just because it's cheap.

    • +53

      Sums up Ozbargain nicely.

I can see a "Popular Comment" Badge coming…

        • -3

          30 the magic number?

    • Saw this deal a couple of hours back , rang up my local DS and ran out to grab the last one :P. I knew it had an early Android port, but didn't have enough time to check everything before I went… Now I realize the port is not usable since it doesn't support voice calls DUH!. Still, makes a nice gift for someone who doesn't want the latest and the greatest smart phone OS.

  • no stock in or around adelaide by the looks of things. crazy bargain if you can find one though.

    • -1

Yeah, I was going to get one for maybe a christmas present as i have 3 phones (thanks ozb!)

    • Is it fully work or with some limitation.

    • Not well…mic doesn't work last time I'm checked and its pretty much a pre pre alpha.

They've done amazingly well without the sources, but don't expect anything more besides from a proof of concept, which is where they're at now.

You need to be happy with Meego imo if you're going to buy this phone.

I would at $99…heck its a feature phone price :P

  • great deal +1
Good luck on finding one though……. I had a quick search on the website and North Sydney and St Ives seem to still have a few………

    • North syd sold out this morning . only had one, i must have missed it by ten mins to a fellow ozbargainer who got there when the doors opened at. 830.
      Damn you!

  • +2

None in ACT as of 21:30hrs

  • Called around a few stores today (VIC) Glen Waverley, Doncaster (the Pines) and Brandon Park all show up as low stock but are sold out. Was able to get the final one at eastlands.

    • So there is none left at eastland? u got the last one?

      • Yup, Asked them to hold it for me which they did. Picking it up tomorrow morning.

        • +4

Good luck. They will say they cannot find it when you get there because they are reserving it for their staff.

        • +4

I hope you are there now as 4 people were in there this morning to claim. A lady is arguing that's she is first in and should get it. Call them now and tell them you are coming otherwise they will give it away.

        • +1

Thanks Guys, For a change they didn't give it out to someone else or keep it for themselves. Very happy Camper.

        • Yeah the lady tried very hard. Her argument was that she was the first one in the shop and if there was stock available she had the right to purchase the stock. You are very lucky the sales person didn't cave in.

Next time don't say you have got something on hold, especially the location, when something is in such hot demand.

        • Yup, lesson learnt

    • +1

for some odd reason I don't believe u… sound a bit suspicious

      • +2

Go ahead give them all a call tomorrow. Was thinking will save others some time. as @chloden stated above damned if you do and damned if you don't.

  • These work on Optus 3G fine? The operating system on them easy, and nice to use? Im used to android thats all.
If I get one it will be for the missus.

    • +2

      Yes very easy to use.

      • Thanks T_double, soz was that Yes it does work on Optus 3G?

        • +1

No worries, just to give you a better idea my grandfather purchased one as well and he said it's much easier to use then his partners Galaxy S3.

No idea if Optus 3G will work with this phone sorry.

        • This phone os one of the few that covers all bands used in Australia. Except 4G.

        • +1

Have run my own N9 on Voda, Optus and Telstra. Works just fine!

  • +3

To those hoping to get Android on this device might like to check out: http://forum.nitdroid.com/index.php?topic=601.msg5088#new

    Known bugs:
    - little gfx glitch while horizontal scrolling
    - voicesearch broken
    - voicecalls are still WIP
    - no traffic indication in GPRS icon in statusbar
    - electronbeam is disabled in this build

    Not working/ Work in progress:
    - Cleanup source code, commit all changes, allow AOSP-like builds.
    - RIL/ofono: connectivity problems on some operators. Advanced features: PIN/PUK (un)locking, roaming etc.
    - Android USB drivers: adb, mtp etc.
    - sensors (als, proximity etc)
    - sensors: compass (calibration)
    - lights HAL (led)
    - audio (a2dp, microphone (attempt to record mono/8000Hz crashes mediaserver), voicecalls
    - HW video decoding (DSP)
    - vibra
    - camera
    - GPS. GlonASS also
    - NFC (n9 share the same nfc chip with crespo: pn544 from NXP. I suppose we could use crespo's HAL/kernel modules with minimal changes, no need to write it from scratch. However, it doesn't work atm ( userland problem ) ).
    - a lot of other things

This isn't an easy ride like the many other Android devices I've rooted and ROMed. I've already soft bricked my N9 once and now downloading a 2GB ROM in the hopes to bring it back to life. Slightly old tut here that I'm following: http://theunlockr.com/2012/03/23/how-to-run-android-ice-crea…

    • +9

There's really no point of putting on android if it's that broken IMO.

      • +1

Voice calls WIP … hahahaha a phone that can't make calls? What's the point indeed.

      • +2

This was a warning, not a suggestion or recommendation.

i will try to get one and hopefully XDA Android to it!

This kind of comment concerned me and I wanted people to know it's not a simple process. I do it because it's a hobby I enjoy.

    • Seriously though why waste time installing android to this device when there are comparable android devices now being sold for $199 (Lg something) with a $25 unlock?

      • Nokia hardware + Android software, marriage made in heaven!

  • +6

Already a few on eBay for $285 or best offer. The person is even being generous and throwing in free express post. How thoughtful…

    • -1

      sarcasm reeks…

  • Umm there are heaps on eBay for the past months, don't assume to much.

    • There were not all that many available at $99

  • any store still has stock?

  • +1

Just called St Ives, and was told that they've sent all the units to Nokia to be fixed. Will probably be back in two weeks, though they'd qualify as refurb at that point of time?

  • +2

Yep, none have them in stock but then again it's DSE. So the workers probably buy all the good deals or tell family members.

It appears that you have called all the ones I called at 9:15 @ 9am lol

  • I called them, They constantly told me it is a repaired unit. Was the original deal for repaired units ?

    • No, it appears to just be run out stock in original box and plastic wrapped.

      • they only had one.. may be only the repaired unit was left :(

  • Lol, Just called VIC point in qld. They say its 199 and have 1 in stock. Online only for 99 wth??
