      • Yes do complain, I was told last week that I was ineligible as more than 14 days had passed from purchase to submission of entry, despite the fact that I had entered before the expiry date of the competition.

        I told the rep that:

        -I made the final date
        -It was onerous and confusing to have another final date
        -Obviousy time means nothing to these people, as it's March and they are getting back to me now
        -that I found out about this on a popular forum with 4000 followers on the thread and if its not resolved I'll be posting my disgruntled comments for all to read which defeats the purpose of any promotion

        that was probably Tuesday or Wednesday last week, and they sent another email and called today to say I was successful, I was itching to ask her about the change of heart but didn't in case it was a stuff up of some sort, hope to have my 50 bucks soon

        Hey guys, thanks very much for thinking of me. Mine finally got resolved and I got it today in the mail. The epic saga that is the WD $50 promo is finally over haha. Every person I have seen get declined has been given "special consideration" if they contact the rep on facebook.

    I received mine today. Was it worth the wait? Probably - I followed the competition instructions carefully and sent WD 1 email asking them of the status. Not much effort but I do feel for those who missed out.

        No, I didn't have separate receipts, the T&Cs aren't clear that this is required.

        Copy paste of my response to their dismissal, I put it on their facebook wall:

        "My 2nd claim has been rejected on the following grounds:

        T&C 10 - Multiple entries permitted, subject to the following: (a) only one (1) entry and claim permitted per specified Eligible Product purchased during the Promotional Period; (b) each entry and claim must be submitted separately and in accordance with claim requirements; (c) a maximum of five (5) entries and claims per person throughout the Promotional Period; and (d) each entry submitted must be substantially unique

        (a) I submitted 1 entry/claim for each specified eligible product. This clause is not clear on whether multiple of the exact same model Are permitted. I am not claiming twice from the same product. I bought it twice, therefore two separate products and two separate transactions.
        I have satisfied all other T&Cs.

        The above T&Cs can be construed as misleading or unclear. I am not happy with this response. If multiple products were not eligible, I would not have bought it twice, not even once."

          The main thing you've written here is TYPE!!!
          They never specified that in the T&Cs, and I recommend people contact the Office of Fair Trading / ACCC in your relevent state!
          It is misleading / unclear to the layman, and hence would be most likely ruled in your favour!

    • 6 weeks.. a quick look and they originally promised "Once your entry is verified, your gift card should be delivered within two weeks to the address you provided." so now its verified I can't really see what the delay is … even Oz Post is not that slow…

  • FINALLY got my card yesterday.

    I had to send several messages to WD via FB. FYI, I got 'You Won' email early Feb. After 4 FB messages (two wall posts and two direct messages), they FINALLY got back to me and said it would be sorted. I just had to reply an email confirming my address.

    Then I got an apologetic call on Monday saying it was ordered and would be sent out. Got it in two days.

    WD is located in Victoria and the giftcards were mailed from Vic where I'm based so that's why I guess it arrived quicker than expected.

    Just got a call that my claim got rejected as I did not claim within 14 days of purchase … (4 days late) :-(. Didn't they want to inform on the 30/01 … and not on the 28/02 (28 days late). I still win the deadline contest by 24 days :-).

    Ah well … no need to argue … as a consumer I can decide what I will buy in the future and what I will recommend.

      Yeah I went to submit my claims and realised that the purchase date was well over 14 days. Officeworks were kind enough to refund and put through the invoices again.

      • Haha … well done. I honestly didn't even expect that WD would be this precise with their T&C. I tried even several times and couldn't submit my claim as their website did not work.

        Such a promo should create a positive feel about the brand and reward customers. Hiring a team to call customers that they were breaching the T&Cs does not really help there. I remember such things a very long time and bought already 3 WDTVs and 12 of their hard drives … they lost me as a customer for future products. (Thank god I did not purchase the WD Passport deal from Amazon recently … )

  • I got a phone message from WD today telling me that my two claims have not been verified.

    So add me to the list of rejects 2 months after submitting my claims and a over a month late from the promised date for delivery of the cards.

      • I got a call today that they will honour my claim - despite being rejected beforehand. Looks like they learned and are not so strict anymore in some cases. These offers should create a positive brand awareness which is hard when you have so many T&Cs. But good on them … it is very nice to see that they changed their mind and honoured my claim.

    It is odd, or is it after all of this, that on the piece of paper the card is attached to states that it is valid for 6 months from the day of activation, but when activated the details state 12 months.

    My first attempt at activation also failed as some mentioned above, but a refresh fixed that.

    Well WD I have written to you on the email provided but no one has responded to my email.

  • I contacted them via FB and via email and was told on the 18th Feb that I had been successful and my card was "on the way". Nothing as yet though.

    Just received a call from their centre in Mel advising again I had been successful and I would receive a card within 4 to 6 weeks, as they have been busy.

    Seems the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

    • Just called their helpline and got told by the chick that congratulations I had been won a gift card, and it will be delivered within 4-6 weeks. I asked if that's 4-6 weeks from when they told me this last month, or from today…and it's from today. So that means it's actually 6-10 weeks from approval.

      Also she had said my card had been passed up the management line along with a bunch of others as they required further clarification regarding their winning status.

      To make matters worse the WDTV I purchased has died, so now need to speak with these monkeys regarding warranty service, sigh.

    Hi guys

    My second claim was rejected on following T&Cs:
    (A) only one claim and entry permitted per eligible specified product purchased during the promotional period.

    This doesn't clearly state that you can buy more than one product and claim for each as long as it's one claim per entry (multiple entries satisfies the criteria). I will be bringing making an official complaint today to the Dept of Fair Trading on the basis that the T&Cs of the promotion were deceptive and misleading.

    I did send an email about two weeks ago but didn't hear anything back.

    Then today they called my mobile to confirm that my entry was verified and I will receive the $50 card. My husband also received the email yesterday and phone call today for our other claim.

      I figured this promo was all dealt with and some mug at Aus Post had pocketed my card but now it seems more a case that WD just hasn't been majorly unprepared for the response. There's hope yet for my card turning up, and confirmation email too apparently. Thumb twiddling continues.

  • After WD denied my claim 3 times i called them one final time and was told that they reviewed all claims and my claim is now successful and gift card should arrive in 4-6 weeks. so there is still hope.

  • I just got another call from the lady at fairtrading and she say she tried contact them by email but no replies…and the company is based overseas and its really hard to get in contact with them??? I have no clue.. She recommended me to take it to the tribunal for $37! Big hassle.. Grrrr….
    Btw anyone has the phone number for this promotion? Cant seem to find the phone number or the address as the fair trading lady wants it so she can follow up with them..

    Finally heard back from WD today. They are dishonouring all claims where people have bought several of the same item TYPE.

    This is their response with clause highlighted:

    T&C 10 – Multiple entries permitted, subject to the following: (a) only one (1) entry and claim permitted per specified Eligible Product purchased during the Promotional Period; (b) each entry and claim must be submitted separately and in accordance with claim requirements; © a maximum of five (5) entries and claims per person throughout the Promotional Period; and (d) each entry submitted must be substantially unique.

    I have since spoken to a legal expert and as they have not used the work "TYPE" after Eligible Product – they are in fact only protecting themselves from people submitting several entries for buying one (1) product.

    I explained this to the manager on the phone today and she said that their legal experts had written the T and C and WD were not honouring any claims that fell under these conditions.

    She said they MEANT "Product Type", not just "Product" – even though it was not written in their T and C. I explained that this was not legally good enough but she did not want to hear it.

    I will be forwarding this on to Fair Trading and I suggest all others with a similar complaint do the same.

      Yes I have done this with my fair trading in WA. They spoke to me and again got my side of the story and are now speaking to WD about it (I hope)
