Origin Energy upto 25% off Electricity and Gas (NSW Only) - Extended to 15 Dec 2012

130

Same offer as http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83248 EXTENDED till 15 Dec 2012

Once you work out the actual dollars and cents rather than just face value of percentages, it's still a pretty sweet deal.

    Origin Energy 25% off

the link says "Save UP TO 25%"…

    • If you pay on time, direct debit.

    • yeah the first fine print details that.

      ^ DailySaver discount breakdown
21% Electricity guaranteed usage discount, 21% Natural Gas guaranteed usage discount, plus an additional 2% pay on time usage discount if you pay your bill by the due date plus an additional 1% dual fuel usage discount for having both your electricity and natural gas accounts with Origin plus an additional 1% direct debit usage discount.

      • And after 12mths?

        • Yeah I would also like to know that. Does it revert back to normal, non discounted rate?

      • +1

1% direct debit discount on USAGE only, but 0.6% credit card fee (Visa / Mastercard) on TOTAL BILL

        Sneaky !

  • +1

hope they do the same thing for queenslander

  • Checked rates and they are MUCH HIGHER than others, plus no discount on supply charge at all.

    • +1

do you know who has cheaper rates and better price after discount?

      • I have 13% discount with Energy Australia and it's on usage + supply and cheaper than origin even with 25% discount.

        • But this Origin deal is only for NSW. Are you comparing against EA rates in NSW? More often than not our usage bill is higher than supply bill.

    • +1

which provider are you with wxyz234?

I just signed onto the Origin deal at end of last month, so still in the cooling off period.

I'm in the Endeavour network distribution area and the usage rates amongst the retailers are all almost identical. The supply charges might differ by a few cents from the standard but that's all.

    • +2

Rates are the same as AGL's at my place. Origin's electricity supply charge is 5c/day higher.

    • How could they be higher? In NSW the rates are set I believe.

      • You are right, paddy567. The rates in NSW are fixed and are set as directed by iPART. But the daily supply charge does vary. In my case, Dodo has the cheapest supply charge and gives 15% discount. However, even with the 2c (or 3%) higher supply charge, Origin's 25% discount is still a better saving.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that Origin's early termination fee is a fixed $70 while Dodo's is $3.00 ($3.30 inc GST) per remaining month of the contract term.

    "Origin Energy upto 25%"
Increasing again? How is increasing price a deal?

  • I found the dodo is the cheapest with rates plus they got 15% off

    • +1

Hope you did a google review first, it isn't positive…

    • +1

I swapped from dodo to this origin deal .The dodo rates are the same in my area so i should save 10%

    • +2

aren't NSW all fixed IPART rates?

  • +1

I struggle to understand all this stuff.

What I do know is, in a 70 year old built up suburb of Sydney, still no natural gas on the main street :(
At least I might be able to get "up to" 24% off my elec, which was over $1800 last quarter. $800 more than the quarter before. Thanks Julia.
Edit I don't qualify. I'm already getting screwed by Origin. New accounts only.

    • Call them. Refer to the original thread. You never know what they might offer you.

    • +1

I think you will find electricity prices are not the PMs fault

      • +3

you mean the carbon tax that has no impact on power prices, but power prices spike in preparation of it??

or do you mean the fact that there are pricing regulators who approve every price hike proposed by utility providers and never use any of their power to restrict power rises??

or is it more of a "sale of public utilities" thing, where the 800million dollars they make for shareholders every year is in no way related to the price you pay or the very low price these utilities were sold for (or the fact that the 800 million dollars would otherwise go into the government coffers, rather than private hands) …

yes, nothing at all to do with the PM … nothing at all …

        • Yes it seems that privatisation, and the cost of running multiple suppliers and their managements, have not contributed to lower energy costs.

    • +1

They will certainly not offer you this over the phone. But I suggest you give it a go by applying online as a few people in another forum reported that they managed to get the discount despite being current Origin customers when they applied online. However, it did not work for everybody.

If you already did try and got declined, I'm sorry to have bothered you.

You should mention in the title "12 months contract" rather than the Extended To 15 Dec as knowing that its only a 12 month deal is more important from a high level when scrolling through deals. The expiry information already shows at the high level anyway.

    • I would prefer a 24/36 month contract.

  • How does this compares to the iselect deal that gives $175 to customers?

  • +1

If you are currently under contract with another company they will give you equal or higher cash-back to compensate.

  • Hi Friends

I am just bit confused was talking to a friend and she mentioned its better to go with LumoEnergy as they give you discount on the whole bill compared to others who give you discount on just the usage.

As it reads from their webpage "Get Up To 10% Off Your Bills. Enquire Today!"
    http://www.lumoenergy.com.au

Just pathetic. This company treated me like a fool. After trying to apply online I couldn't find where to put my code 230 so I rang them!!!! 35 mins and 8!! transfers later Luke informs me that I am not eligible because Integral energy is being taken over by Origin but they can offer me in January a 10% deal which is worse than I am getting now.
These energy companies are pathetic. They change the rules to suit them. I am so angry at the moment. I have just wasted 35 mins of my life!!!

  • It is also available in Vic at https://www.originenergy.com.au/25smart

(as compared to https://www.originenergy.com.au/25offer for NSW)

And there is a gas only deal for existing Integral Energy electricity customers in NSW - see https://www.originenergy.com.au/25deal

  • I just signed on a deal with the same name. But the deal was 16% off electricity and 12% off gas (totaled up including all the direct debit discounts). They also gave you $175 credit.

So the way I see it is, depending on your total bill/usage, the deal really isn't too much different to what they were offering the other day. I will still do the maths though and cancel if I am going to save a few more dollars.

  • As current Ogirin customer still under contract, I chose Origin DailySaver Elec & Gas NSW offer via iSelect. up to 15% elec and 12% gas discount Plust credit of $175 into Elec account after 6 month.
I contacted Origin if they can match this offer but the sales staff said same discount with $100 was their best so I signed up via iSelect. and of course there is no contract break fee as I will be still with Origin.

As my Origin contract is expiring soon, I believe this is the best energy offer I can find at this moment. Thanks heaps for those who provided the useful information - I would have never checked iSelect without it.
