A wide steel case Pandora Box Arcade setup with modular quality components is needed.
Joysticks are a great Sanwa clone, and buttons can take a ton of mashing.
LED strip lights up cutout arrows.
The gameboard is set to 4:3 reducing image stretching.
It comes with a 128GB MicroSD card that is unlocked so you can adjust settings and remap through config files.
If you're into dabbling, adding new cores can be tricky, but it can be achieved by editing the database and adding the correct files.
It's set up to emulate arcade classics and consoles, including N64, Dreamcast, PS1, PSP, Genesis, Gameboy platforms, and more.
The gameboard supports optional light guns.
Steel Case has 2 holes that should line up with the older Arcade1UP arcade machines - remove their panel and add this with a display encoder board.

Or you can buy something that's already set up and works?
Or you can challenge yourself, learn some DIY skills and save money?
Or you could just focus on your career and make more money overall so you don't need to worry about building something yourself, whilst actually making money?
@dottjt: Only a few short hours into a new working week, surfing Ozbargain - and commenting - and telling others to focus on career?
@dottjt: no, i was letting people know that you can DIY for a lot less…i guess youse dont like DIY electronics projects…but youse do like stacks on!
@QuickToThePointless: Not many people like to DIY stuff like that or fix broken stuff. Some people see it as a waste of time, time better off making money. I enjoy the challenge of making/fixing stuff when time is not a problem. Each to their own.
@fredk1000: unfortunately not many people know how these days, and what they dont know and understand is immediately intimidating and wrong - instead, apparently, they need to focus on career/make more money, but they do have time to make pointless comments on the internet :/
Not very portable though is it?
76cm long, easy to carry and transport to friends - might be a bit big to fit in your pocket though ;-)

"Joysticks are a great Sanwa clone" $249 and it doesn't even come with real Sanwa joysticks and buttons.
Wouldnt the term "sanwa clone" ilustrate that the OP is telling you they arent real sanwa buttons or joysticks? Also you wont find an all in one joystick and emulator combo for $250 with sanwa buttons and joystick.
Duh, what do you think my comment is about? $250 for Sanwa clone is ridiculously expensive.
These decks are massive compared to others, the Sanwa clones are the best we have found and while we offer Sanwa upgrades I don't think its necessary. It also runs the alpha+ stated under specs which we believe is better than the EX2 board. Gameboard aside thought, you wont even find yourself a fightstick with Sanwa gear for $250.
Very expensive mate
Jaycar had similar for $50 on sale recently (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/885912)
Still in stock and will likely go on sale again
Jaycar one can be modded with some soldering to make it into USB controller whilst keeping functionalityAlso Aliexpress have these for around $150
Their whole store is pretty exxy. Selling Trimui Smart Pro for $138 when it's been as low as $62 on here, $55 for an OS upgrade/card filled with ROMs
Our consoles are actually very well priced compared to other AU based businesses, that said you are more than welcome to buy from overseas with no warranty or support when things go bad.
True, I added 8500 games into it and it works really well. Though the control's a bit laggy..
Similar to the quality product Jaycar sold for $249 and cleared for $50? We've got a review on that board on our blog. Its entry level at best I'm afraid
We've been selling Pandora boards pre-covid so like to think we know a bit and offer one of, if not the best setup. But hey don't believe us read our customers' reviews.Interesting as your review of a board that's similar to the Jaycar one says the controls are good, the main criticism is of the inbuilt computer system that runs the games and I agree it's underpowered.
I am in the process of modding mine so it works as a PC controller and also retains originally functionality. Solder 4 points and done.
Best setup for these if you don't want to mod yourself is one that works as USB controller as well as inbuilt out of the box or raspberry pi board. Had for under $200.
As for Pandora - $159.69 from Aliexpress
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008346726773.html?spm=a2…Granted, sure you take the risk of buying overseas however you're saying $250 is a great deal, it's not.
Hi, yes the buttons and Joystick are listed as decent, as not everyone's as fussy as us. Given you have upgraded the board, as mentioned, I'd be upgrading the joystick as I think they feel too loose, but if you are happy, they will definitely do the job.
If you prefer to tinker then that's great and a lot of fun too.
Our units out of the box are PC & PS3 USB controller friendly, so no soldering required.
You could absolutely buy a random pandora box from aliexpress and might do well, but sourcing from China comes with its risks, as we have learnt.
Had a quick look at that Aliexpress box you mentioned. Its $159 + $89 shipping + $24 tax landed at $274 with cheaper buttons, joysticks, a smaller case, and no warranty or support.
Or you could pay less for a better product while supporting local business at $249 delivered and have warranty and support.
10,000 plus games! Must have been a nightmare to organise the licensing deals for all of those!!
Not cheap at all considering it has cheap parts. Doesn't even list what Pandora board it runs. I grabbed the Jaycar one for $49 and added a proper EX2 Wifi dual board for an extra $85 with harness. Even built one from a case on amazon for under 150.
This is just advertising without an OzBargain discount. Thanks Spec states its an Alpha+, this article give you a full rundown of most pandora boxes https://electroarcade.com.au/pandoras-box-gameboard-key-7-3d…
and this one coves the jaycar one - https://electroarcade.com.au/game-on-friends-console-review-…
EX2 is a good board, WiFi feature is just hype though.
That said we also sell the EX2 which is patched to reduce screen stretching found on most Pandora Boxes, as is our Alpha+ with lightgun support.
I'd be swapping out the joysticks on that deck of yours as well.Hard crowd, but you won't get this board, a case this size out of steel or overall quality/finish at this price point in Australia or from overseas as shipping alone is a killer.
light gun
Am I reading the website right that all needed for light gun gaming is the kit in the op, plus the $345 gun kit?
I do miss OG time crisis and point blank
yes lightgun kit with IR sensor is currently 345, but only a few sets left and new stock will go up when they arrive thanks to our killer AUD :-(
@electroarc: Thanks, for the pandora box is there a maximum length of hdmi cable supported? I am thinking I’m going to need to get like at least a 10m one.
And a review mentioned something about not clear how to change from 4 way to 8 way stick? Is there a manual included with these units now? PDF is fine
I’m kind of tempted to get one now.
@Jimothy Wongingtons: Hmmm I've tried 8m. It states online that HDMI signal can travel between 5-15M, so I'll have to test this. We run the same 4/8 way gate as Sanwa JLF so you need to disconnect the gate from base of joystick, rotate the inner ring and then connect it again. Switching 4-8 isn't an elegant process unfortunately irrespective of joysticks. there's some images on here - https://electroarcade.com.au/product/genuine-sanwa-premium-j…
Yeah we have a manual and online tips page, but doesn't touch on changing gate.@electroarc: Thanks
I was hoping to get back into marvel vs Capcom and street fighter again, so 8 way is necessary. Kinda bummed soul calibur 2 looks to be missing from the line up
@Jimothy Wongingtons: 8 way is the standard, the challenge you face is with 4 way titles like Pac Man which are still playable but would be ideal 4 way.
@Jimothy Wongingtons: i have used 15m hdmi 1.4 cables for 1080p /60hz media pc setups for movies /TV without issue in years gone by . video signal from retro boxes like this will be much less bandwidth - power up!
Can this get dropped into your pedestal kit? Or do you have any cabinet / videos for that? Looking to grab this and the light guns.
Hi, yes it can be mounted ontop of the flat "Arcade Stand" option, or you can move all the parts into the "Arcade" version. If you wanted the Arcade Version though we have all the parts to do the same with and would work out cheaper.
Lightguns are compatible with our Alpha+ gameboard.

Reach out via our website if you want more info and can have a quick chat if you like.No worries. I’ve purchased the King XL Deck so I’ll see how that goes before ordering the light guns. Seems like the easiest/cheapest way to play point blank again haha
Enjoy! any questions, reach out to us via email. Lightguns are sold out, next batch arrives in around 6 weeks.
