    Personally I couldn't deal with slow 25mbps & I don't think the price is great I'm paying $65 for 100mbps southern phone 12 month deal .

    • +2

I was looking at southern, but you never read anything good about them lately.

    • +2

yes 25mbps can test your patience under certain conditions but does the job for me.
I'll remmeber to check out southern phone next time.

      • +3

Yep have had 25mbps for a while and does the job for me. I even switched from 100mbps when I was with tpg to get the free upgrade to FTTP but then downgraded back to 25mbps to save money. Performance wise is suffice, I’m not trying to load 4K videos on YouTube and only just use internet for wfh and occasial Netflix/streaming platforms.

      • +1

Southern suck balls, steer clear, not worth any saving. My old girl had nothing but issues for 2 years with them & their hopeless P.I. tech support.

      • NBN 25 is fine for one person.
No problems with streaming netflix etc.

    • -2

Imagine downloading say a 150GB computer game at that speed. That's going to take over 14 hours. The same you can download for under 30 minutes on Gigabit fibre internet. 25Mbps is a joke when it comes to those things.

      • +7

Unless I’m desperate I can just leave that overnight to download - not the end of the world 😅

        • your whole night is like 10 hours at most no? and it is always 14 hours to download the game, regardless of you are desperate or not.. being not desperate doesn't make downloading any faster

also, unless someone only plays one game, it is very common to have multiple game updates in one go

      • -1

        Hmmm I dont think so.

I download such programs in a few minutes.

      • Yeah because you do that daily 🤣

      • most games are around 20-50gb, the 150gb would be a rare occurrence for most/ if at all

        • Not so uncommon now for modern AAA titles to be huge in size. Just look at any modern COD games and you will see.

For example when it comes to console gaming. COD Black Ops 6 PS5 (with all the DLC) is 172GB in size and that was 9 months ago. It's likely even bigger now.

          https://www.reddit.com/r/playstation/comments/1et1lv1/cod_bl…

Apparently COD Modern Warfare 3 PS5 is 240GB+ to install. COD Cold War PS5 is 220GB. Star Wars Jedi Survivor PS5 is 148GB. Destiny 2 PS5 is 143GB.

          https://www.thegamer.com/biggest-ps5-game-file-sizes/

There's many PS5 games which are 100GB and over. That's just some examples of game sizes.

For those that it matters to, no CGNAT opt out, only way is to pay extra for a static IP

    • I literally just got off the phone with them and they told me it was $5.50/month. I said that was just for a static IP and he told me it's the same charge.
      That now makes sense.

  • +2

experience with FL!P was terrible, drop outs in the past 3 months was more than the 12 months i had with other providers thankfully only used to monitor the CCTV remotely while i was overseas.

    • This is not necessarily Flip
It could be your NBN connection anywhere from your port in the house to the exchange down the road.
And even incorrect configuring of your modem

  • +5

Also, if you were with them once (doesn't matter how long back) you are not considered as "New customer".

    • -2

      ^ this

    • +1

Yes but you can sign up a new account with new email address and get the deal again.

No verification of date of birth, name etc is performed so go wild with aliases.

      • Awesome.

        Thanks - great to know!

  • Felix at $20 per month for 6 months might work for some if you have the right gear.

    • that's mobile, not nbn?

      • +2

with the right gear, it can be whatever you want it to be ;)

        • Touche, with the right gear. A 4G mobile and a router.

          • +1

@ja912son: I used Felix in a 4G modem for years — the service was great. While speeds were a bit slower by today’s standards, it offered a solid 20/20 Mbps (at least when I had it), which still compares well to this deal. The only reason to avoid Felix would be if you plan to download heavily as they can boot you off. I averaged around 500GB and was never flagged.

If I were in the market for a slower plan again, I’d go with Felix. The only downside is the modem cost, they'd be pretty cheap these days though as the world has moved on to 5G.

25/10 on NBN needs to be <$30 to be a deal these days. Don't know if that's possible with wholesale costs though.

            • +1

@Click_It: I agree with you on less than $30 for 25/10, but rarely you could find any offering that these days.

              • @ja912son: Sad but true. I haven't seen a <$30 deal for a long while.

    • Do you mean the $20 mobile phone plan with felix, and just insert the sim into a 4g router?

  • I'm actually looking to depart Flip for the next deal. There was some chatter these scumbags need 30 days' written notice for you to leave, but surely you can just churn out like usual, right ??

    • +2

      Won’t reply twice but @sunyuanxin
Sadly this is the case with them and even tpg was the same before I ported from them to flip.

So if you want to move out then you need to plan a month in advance and give them the 1 month notice unfortunately and it’s not really told to customers upfront I find so you need to be proactive and ask customer service when you join any Internet provider

I was with flip, did the 6 months promo then forgot to churn out, got charged a full month then I was going to port to another provider. Can’t remember who but when I told flip they said they would match it so atm I’m paying $48? (Sorry can’t confirm coz bloody Netbank CbA app is down) and it’s for the next 10 months.
I guess I’m just waiting for the next 25mbps that’s cheaper then I’ll port out from flip 😅

  • +1

Since when did a minimum 30-day notice become an unwritten rule?

  • +1

Looks like deal has changed, only 4 months free and says its ending 30/04

As of March 2025, Australia’s internet speeds are as follows:

    📶 Fixed Broadband
    • Median Download Speed: 81.61 Mbps
    • Global Rank: 82nd
    • Upload Speed: 18.62 Mbps
    • Latency: 10 ms

This places Australia behind many developed nations in fixed broadband speeds. However, performance varies by region and provider. For instance, Sydney recorded a median fixed download speed of 67.29 Mbps in the first half of 2024.

    • Australia is a developed nation?

      • not on this matter as our NBN is a scam and joke

  • +2

Much better to sign with mate ,same plan @40pm but 50$ cashback via topcashback

    • Crickey! Looks like I’m going to change then 😅

      • I'm leaving Mate because their CGNAT implementation is causing a lot of data routing issues which hasn't been resolved.

        • Can chat online and they can give static ip without additional charge

    • +1

Thanks for the tip. I’m going to Mate soon but was not aware of the Topcashback offer

  • +2

Happy days for me, until I actually needed their customer service as the service went down.

    • I thought it was my issue, so got a new router. Turns out it wasn't my issue. No NBN outage in the area.
    • Spent about an hour to talk to someone finally. Scheduled for a technition to come.
    • Scheduled technition doesn't show up. Spent another hour trying to talk with them… Oops, miscommunication on their end, rescheduled. Day wasted.
    • Rescheduled technition doesn't show up. Repeat above, WTF.
    • Third time lucky, technition arrives, then leaves after literally 1 minutes inside my unit saying that the job's been cancelled on their scheduling system. WTF, he's surprised as well, and he says he'll return. He doesn't.
    • At this point I'm so fed up with trying to talk with them, waiting on the phone.
    • A few hours later, internet miraculously is back to normal.

I basically had 2.5 weeks without NBN. I cancelled at the end of the billing cycle. Never again, the $40 is not worth the hassle.

    • -2

each to their own but sorry you had to go through they experience 😢

    • Technician*

  • I had collection with Flip until recently as 6 month honeymoon period was over. Note: please do not prepay your account and have it in credit, there'll be a $5.50 charge as they cannot issue refund via EFT but rather a cheque in the mail (and an admin charge with it!)

Connection wise was ok- nothing great and had the occasional drop outs but nothing significant.

    • Yes refund of credit is not worth it with the $5 charge to refund.

  • +1

Works fine, good value for the price, haven't had any issues over past few months with them

    • Same as me. Been with them for coming up to 6 months now. Apart from a couple of urgent maintenance issues, but rock solid for me.

  • My experience was not good with them. Monthly planned nbn maintenance outage lasting whole day. Unstable connection.

  • +1

I churn a lot and flip was the only one where drop outs were terrible. Support had no idea. I was on this six months offer but left after 2 months as was having to call support once a fortnight without much success.

Leaptel, Aussie broadband, AGL, superloop, tangerine all fine. Flip terrible.

    • Then it sounds like the drop outs were from an issue on Flips end of the network. Their own network hardware.

    • Same here. I never had drop outs issue with other 5 providers in the past few years until I changed to Flip last week.
