Pricematching is NOT a bargain, read the following

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guideline…

    • 100% agree with you but the precedent has been set in this debacle recently:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89417

"Mod: FYI: Receipts have always been able to be posted as deals. Price errors get moved to forums."

That wasn't a pricematch, was supposed to be a 'new' drive haggled down according to the OP but may not have been new according to conflicting reports from others that visited the store and a post from the salesperson involved.

This 'deal' was attained by invoking the pricematch policy at officeworks which is a totally different situation.

The only similarities between the two is the posting of a receipt image.

        • And the way you'd attempt to get the deal is the same, by using the posted receipt. What I'm saying is the receipt is the deal.

        • Anyone else care to have a go cos I give up.

Good adult discussion, I enjoyed it.

  • Thanks foobar - the receipt was uploaded with the pricematch details but just to confirm I price matched it with this place: http://www.gimmedigi.com/catalog/western-digital-my-book-liv…

As I said it's not a deal as much as it is a price match.

    • not a deal as much as it is a price match

and as such should not have been posted as a deal, should be in the forums at best. You've been a member since Jan 2011 and must have seen countless pricematch 'deals' either deleted, moved or altered to conform to the rule, yet here we are.

      • Thanks and noted but I haven't posted a deal here before (and it seems I still haven't). I don't pay that much attention tbh. But if it's against the rules, feel free to delete.

If you take 30 seconds to read the first sentence of the link I posted above…

        • Again, thanks - I'll remember that next time.

    • It's still a bargain. Not a great one but still a bargain.
Just edit the link to the site which you pricematched off, and get rid of the pricematch part and you're good to go

      • A bargain it may be, a deal it is not.

You are just lucky to find someone to let you pricematch a store that based in Hong Kong.

    • Postage was free to Australia from the website.

I went to JB HiFi and asked for best deal, got it for $195 then sent off my WD claim for a further $50 off. Total price $145.
Can upload receipt if anyone s interested.

  • Just use these vendors
    http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Western%20Digit…
    Cheapest is $224 in Au

  • got the seagate backup plus 3tb for $100 at HVN recently, normal inflated price is $185, but normally $149 does not have ethernet port though.

PM me anyone who wants a receipt of the HVN

  • Not a bargain

Even if we allow price matches (which i thought we didn't)
I would take proof of this
    http://www.greenboxit.com.au/index.php?cPath=728_19709_19702

5% off this price is a lot cheaper that the OP price.

    • The price match I used ($224) brought the price down to $213 at OW. I may be wrong but how is 5% off the price from your link a lot cheaper?

      • Oh okay. I thought it was $224.45 after your price match. I cant download your receipt at work (network blocked)
So I guess my link is only slightly cheaper.

Normally people post something like this as a subject
Western Digital 3TB My Book Live Home Network Drive - $224.45 delivered (OW pricematch $213)

  • I got this for cheaper here, which was also based off an overseas stocker, which ultimately got moved to forums by mods:

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83165

Not sure why mods have decided to let this one go..

  • Any lower than $199 at OW (on Staticice) and JB HIFI. HVN $244
And are they any good ?
