What do you mean by 'modified'?
Do you mean it was rooted?
Because getting root access to the android OS can prevent NFC from working, and that's not a flaw, it's by design and a security feature.
Sounds like the problem you have has nothing to do with Motorola and everything to do with a lack of understanding how things work
      edit: spelling

      • That is the thing. The phone itself has never been modified, but there is one security update that causes the phone to stop the NFC. That's not just my phone. There are several people who face the same issue and when I contacted Motorola themselves via their website I was told that they are aware of the issue and have been looking to fix it. But upon further research I found post on reddit from many years ago with people complaining about the exact same issue.

So they know about it for years now.

  • Which one is the better phone. Both appear to have different pros, doesn’t seem to be a clear winner.

    • G75 is all around the better phone. Arguments can be made for the oled screen on the g85 being a plus but the curved edges are a deal breaker for some

  • Can't see about warranty if we purchase through mobileciti, I ordered from Goodguys with 2 years warranty for 294

    • +2

You should have added something for $6 value to bring it up to 300 then you could have applied the $40 voucher bringing it down to $260 as I did.

      • Is this promo still on for good guys? Is that the eBay store or website

  • Does anyone know whether PLUS40 code can be used on this listing? I have an offer from ebay to get a $40 coupon if i sign up ebay plus but it only works on "eligible items" (which according to their t & c is has a PLUS40 code on it). And can I use this coupon straight away after signing up or is there a waiting period

  • Does JB have this product to price match?

    • I don't think JB price match ebay stores.

      • What about officeworks?

  • Which is a better phone?

This one, or a Samsung Galaxy A25 5G 128GB Android Phone Genuine Australia Stock Unlocked that is available for $274.00 ($100 of with code PHONEOFY) with eBay deals

I see the Moto is slightly bigger and more ram, but the Samsung is better quality right?, plus not a grey import.

I also note the Moto has buds, but not a big thing with me.

So many mobile brands, all confuses me :-(

    • +1

Yes, I think you are getting slightly more with moto g75
      Slightly faster performance
      Slightly faster charging
      Water resistant
      Newer

Mobileciti isn't grey importers, they are official au resellers

Do your research. Apparently this phone does not support NFC secure payments so you can't use it for tap payment

      • -1

on what evidence do you make this extreme claim?

        • From the specs on the Motorola website and googling it. That's why i said do your research, i love how i get down voted for having done that.
The official site says: NFC =Yes, Non-eSE
          https://www.motorola.com.au/smartphones-moto-g75-5g/p

          I checked Reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/motorola/comments/1ht4x1z/does_moto…

And one of the MOTO AGENTS ("Motorola employee") literally said 5 months ago :

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Since the Moto G75 has "non-eSE NFC," it likely cannot support secure NFC payments, like Google Pay or similar services, as it lacks the embedded Secure Element (eSE) chip needed for secure transaction handling. However, you can still use NFC for basic functions such as file sharing, connecting to NFC-enabled devices, and scanning NFC tags.

For contactless payments, you would typically need a device with eSE NFC support. -Aria

Google says: "Non-eSE NFC" refers to Near Field Communication (NFC) technology that doesn't use an embedded Secure Element (eSE) chip for secure transactions. Instead, it relies on other methods like Host Card Emulation (HCE) to emulate a payment card. While still enabling basic NFC functions, it generally cannot support secure NFC payments like Google Pay or Apple Pay due to the lack of the secure chip. "

ok I've now setup NFC payments on a G75 and made two payments with secure payments, not that I needed to but wanted to prove if this worked or not.

Not only did it work the phone didn't even need a physical tap on the payment terminal to process the payment it was seemless (even with a case on the phone), so I'm not sure why people are spreading misinformation like this, saw a few other posts around the net again being discreted.

so far only issues I've seen with the G75 is adaptive brightness is finicky (goes to 2% apparently known issue as its tricky for the AI to get the base level right, and screen timeout is overriden by another AI algorithm that tries to smart detect if your using the screen and turn it off intelligently, both features I can see can be turned off ultimately) but otherwise pretty happy with the g75.

        • That's why i literally said "APPARENTLY" and "DO YOUR RESEARCH".

Next time i potentially might save someone from making a regrettable purchase, i will keep my mouth shut and let them figure it out the hard way without a heads up or advising them to research first.

        • out of curiosity, what was the actual payment method you used? Google Pay or Banking App?

    • where can i find that price for the samsung?

  • I am not seeing those prices. 295.19 after code.

    • I’m still seeing both the 10% off from Mobileciti and additional 10% off from eBay

      • Oh, it's stackable. Must be getting old.

  • Is the G55 a better option than the G85? Has a longer support life and doesn't have the curve screen and not as heavy and big as the G75?

Cancelled good guys order and got this instead. Signed up for eBay plus $9.99 for the year.

    • +1

How did you get it that price for eBay plus?

  • +1

can i do price match with office work

  • +1

    Sorry to repost this question.

I received mine from The Good Guys deal.

Using Google Wallet, I am able to add a debit card.

But when I try to a a transport pass, (based in Melb and unable to add myki) it keeps saying "Please try again later."

If anyone has recieved their phone, can you please confirm if yoi can add a public transport pass?

    Thank yoi!

Have you used it to pay for anything? Apparently it doesn't support secure NFC payments.

      • +4

I have a G54 and it does absolutely have NFC. G75 and G85 were released after and I assume both also have NFC.

Also on the Motorola website specs for both G75 and G85 says that both models have NFC.

Where did you get the info that they don't have NFC?

        • I think he's got NFC about whether the g75 has NFC lol

    • +1

Have you had that pass in your Google Wallet on another device before? If so, you need to "Move to another device" step in Google Wallet for your Myki first? That tripped me up recently.

    • +1

Had same issue, did my head me trying to setup my Myki on the Moto G84. Use another Gmail account and it should be fine.

  • -5

Apparently doesn't support tap to pay NFC.

    • Damm no NFC payments. Thought this would have been standard in 2025.

      • +1

It's supported someone posted on this page already and tested it

  • +8

NFC tap and pay is fine. I have the g75 and use it multiple times a day

  • Do officeworks price match?

    • iirc not for ebay as I've tried before for other gadgets. Reason they gave me "it has to be assoicated with a physical store" yada yada yada…

Worth giving it a try anyway.

Just bought a G75 as a second work phone. For anyone debating between this and the G85 due to OLED, don't. The LCD is surprisingly good, very bright and very close colour wise to my old G84. I doubt the G85 is that much of an improvement.

    • Worth the upgrade over the G84? Love the G84 but the known bluetooth audio issue bugs me.
Only thing holding me back is the screen size on the G75.

      • My old G84 got smashed which forced the upgrade lol.
The G75 is a bit bigger, but it feels very solid and I actually like the "vegan" leather plastic back. With actual gorilla glass on this, I doubt it'll smash like my G84 which doesn't have any gorilla protection.
Weirdly enough I never noticed the BT audio bug, but the NFC I hated. It was so annoying to get it to scan whenever purchasing something. Never had a phone that touchy before.

      • just doing that upgrade.. I love the G84 but already noticing the secure payments feature is faster and works at a greater range on the g75, the G84 didn't have the glitches with the adaptive brightness and screen timeout but I think is an android 15 issue. Permissions also further restricted on android 15 (which I think is breaking more apps, stupid google)
Otherwise really hard to tell the difference. i thought I was going to be irritated going back to a finger print scanner on the side rather than screen but actually its pretty responsive.

Interesting you mention the audio. I have mine hooked up to a bluetooth dongle (no other choice with the g75 as there is no audio jack) and I did notice the volume on the g75 seems to less glitchy.. What are you seeing with the G84 audio as I'm not sure if what I am seeing is similar.

Whats the difference with the screens? Looks the same to me.

        • Audio very low output even at max volume when paired in Bluetooth mode and even when connected via headphone jack in the car. Annoying and very frustrating, never had this issue with my Redmi note 9 pro.

          • +1

@Navy Blue: I had this exact issue with the Edifier bluetooth speakers that's on another ozbargain deal. A fresh re-pair seems to have fixed it, I wonder if could be the same sort of issue.

G84 not doing this for us, good bluetooth level in the car and also good using a cable into the headphone socket but I need to use a filter if using the cable (to filter out charging noise) Something fishing going on there.
Did you try resetting the bluetooth settings altogether? I noticed when I migrate from 1 android phone to another the bluetooth settings are always half corrupted by the google transfer service (copies the connections per original phone but doesn't make the data compatible with the new phone) so a reset ends up being necessary for bluetooth, I wonder if the copy process might drag over bluetooth "volume" limits or other specifics from the old phone.

  • +1

Looks like Grey colour has been restocked but there is no longer a price difference between the Grey model and the other colours.

  • Whoever reported it as expired/oos, the G85 is still available at that price. The G75 was ages ago marked as out of stock at that time

  • Been looking for an upgrade from OnePlus 7T - this looks on par…

Thanks, OP. I bought the g75 to replace my pixel 7 pro after the display broke from being dropped at the gym too many times. So far so good 😀

  • good phone good price

    • is the g85 the best phone under 300 atm?
