Just FYI for those people who care…..
"Note: This Micro SD Card Reader supports UHS-II SD/TF cards, but the speed will be UHS-I."
I use mine when traveling. Dumping 4K HDR videos and high res photos which fills up my 512GB iPhone 16 Pro Max fast, it is perfect for that. Ultra light and fast enough. Not needing to lug around a laptop or bulkier powered storage devices is a big plus. No limit on storage capacity if you run out as cheap SD cards are everywhere when traveling.
Just confirming it’s as easy as plugging to the iPhone and purchase large SD cards for storage of photos and videos from the iPhone?
Yes, and if you use other cameras (eg Gopro, drone, DSLR) you can even use an appropriate USB-C hub to attach a power source (power bank / ac input), portable SSD and SD card to the phone simultaneously, to allow high speed copying / organising / backup of all your other camera files. I have been using FileBrowser Pro for this - the interface and controls are amazing compared to the native 'files' app https://www.stratospherix.com/products/filebrowserprofession…
You can even do a bit of video and photo editing on the iphone if needed. This is an epic setup for ultralight travel with photography gear. No laptop or tablet needed.
Yes, like File Explorer on Windows or Finder on mac OS.
Correct, i'd recommend people get the ugreen UHS-ii reader, looks the same, same quality, but faster about 4x faster for double the price.
For those who are interested, here's the UHS-II version: https://www.amazon.com.au/UGREEN-Cameras-Laptops-Tablets-Sma…
FYI, the latest (well it's been out there for years) Apple SD to USB-C reader also supports UHS-II.
UHS-II has an extra row of pins to achieve higher speed, so it's unlikely normal SD cards would take advantage of the better reader. Also UHS-II is NOT SD Express (the one to be used on Nintendo Switch 2) even though both has two rows of pins.
Apple SD doesnt support micro sd, so its not value for money. But normal SD cards will still take advantage of the better reader, because when transferring you are reading and not writing and some V30 cards have fast write speeds like the sandisk extreme pro which is 200MB/s.
So the one you linked will still benefit V30 (normal SD) cards.
Apple SD doesnt support micro sd, so its not value for money.
How are they managing to exclude Micro cards ?
When you put your Micro SD into the full-size adaptor to plug it into a reader, it's simply changing the form factor - there's no smarts in the adaptor, your reader should just be seeing another SD Card 🤷
@Nom: Not saying you're wrong but if there's any company that could somehow figure out a way to kneecap an existing standard to force users to pay more for their proprietary shit, it's Apple.
bought yours, got thousand dollar camera and UHSii cards here, wont be trying to save the extra 15$…….
(Xmagic) i have the UHS-II version you linked and just bought the lexar for $14 collect n collect including price match and $10 perks. Be interesting to see how they compare for speed.
It's good but price a bit dear was 27.99 back in March
If it goes back to that price I would get it but not now
Get this one. UHS-I but does up to 170MB/s. I can reach this speed using Samsung Pro Plus micro SD card.
https://www.amazon.com.au/UGREEN-Adapter-Adaptor-Compatible-…
I already have this and just wanted to say that the quality is very good and its good value for $15.
Camel says it's this price half the time. It doesn't give UHS-ii speeds and doesn't have a CF Express slot so it's okay but not great.
Those specs you mentioned are a different use case. For low watt use bus powered storage for devices like iPhones, it's perfect especially for traveling to dump photos and videos on. For home use, it's perfectly fast enough for transfers for most users bar professionals working with media.
Note that while their title says Thunderbolt, this is USB (5gbps)
I was gonna say why would this be TB3? Completely unnecessary for this reader.
Another marketing word for "It's USB C and can plug into TB3'
So much confusion about Thunderbolt compatible
Wonder how this would go for unraid? Apparently card readers have unique id’s so it’s easier to tie the unraid license to the reader instead of a usb drive.
I would like to know this too
I’ll let you know, should be here before next weekend.
Doesn't work for Unraid, the GUID is blacklisted as its a generic one. I tried by doing an install using the unraid installer, and a manual install and booting into unraid - both showed blacklisted.
Ok, thanks for the info.
Have you tried Ubuntu + Cockpit?
I have one like this for the same price which looks like a usb thumb drive but with the additional option of USB-A or USB-C to download. The only downside is it takes up a bit of room on Mac Airs which have the two USB-C too close together to use both at the same time: https://www.ple.com.au/products/661646/volans-vl-cr06-usb-ac….
i would pay probably pay $7 more and get a Lexar professional sd card reader. Easy pickup with at jb hifi price match click and collect. The Lexar should have 3x - 5x faster write speeds than this depending on the quality of your sd card.
Do you have a link for the Lexar model for $22? That would make it a deal. I saw one at JB for $39 which is nearly 3x the price of this.
Shipping $20 makes it ~$39. But yea, a few deals going around the $25 region for other brands but still more expensive if you don't need ultra speeds.
Nice find.
My office isn't too far from Nanobytes solutions store however this store does not offer click and collect, only postage ($20.00).
Got one from JB-Hi-Fi store after the price matched.
Can confirm I have a few of the Lexar lying around and they're amazing.
Thank you @imcold
Price matched @ JB and used
a $10 voucher https://www.mwave.com.au/product/lexar-professional-usbc-dua…
Cancelled my Amazon order and got it this way
JB chat was super easy and quick
No questions asked
Thanks mate
For anyone wanting to price match at JB, nanobytes is not listed as authorised Lexar seller so they won't match them, they did automatically match Mwave though.
@BarginHunter: They price matched devicedeal for me, $19 so a bit cheaper than mwave and itech, no idea if authorised seller but not complaining
@parcus: Purchased one from JBHIFI store at price matched.
Had an arguement with the staff after it said devicedeal is online store and won't price matched. I showed there is a physical address of device deal store (Vermont / VIC) so the staff fixed and apologised straight away.
@parcus also just price matched at JB melb central for $19.
Nice! Did they include shipping costs?
Unfortunately not , but there is a Jb next to me so will just pick up
Just got a message and it’s ready for pick up already
All in all 7mins
@Shenzimtk: Awesome. I'd do the same. Have a voucher expiring this week.
Their price matching policy also says they include delivery.. Still seems like the best price to match.
worked. Thank you!
Cheers. Great deal!
Did the same, had a birthday voucher too, but I price matched with itech $21 but still ok
Did they add the 15 dollar delivery of itech for the price match?
Another thing - even for UHS-I cards, this would potentially limit the max speeds to 104MB/s which is the standard max UHS-I speed (I can't see any review going above that).
Laxar one on the other hand seems to support DDR200 UHS-I extension which allows speeds upto 170MB/s (speed is quoted on their product). Some Samsung, Lexar, SanDisk etc cards support this.
I have a Samsung microSD card reader that works at those higher speeds that I'm very happy with.
The Lexar one supports full UHS-II speeds in addition which is awesome.
'Aluminum'… incompatible with Oz
What have I done. Let me edit the title pronto.
Praise be
Already have an all-in-one card reader I bring when I travel for backing up my vid/photos daily, not sure if I need it but my mind says I need it. Do I need it?
Don’t be krayzii
:D
You'd be krayzii not to purchase it.
Nice Maths joke there, OP
Here is also a good one I've heard in the past.
"I tried to mix Maths and alcohol…
But after a few shots, I couldn’t even find the x."
Ordered 1 Thanks!
I have a Apple I’m sure it is reader from years back but I’m lead to believe even my previous phone a iPhone SE 2nd gen and now a iPhone 16 plus obviously by the time I thought I could use my card reader due to Apple up dates it could no longer be used.
So what’s the go on this? Does this work on my iPhone 16? Or will this change when Apple to future updates as my previous reader was an official Apple Card reader and I never got around to using it and when I did was to late.
So what’s the go with this least one? Don’t Amazon have it as I have $7 credit to use.
Yes
Yes to what part? It will work on my iPhone 16 and are we talking about the Lexar Professional USB-C Dual-Slot Reader?
iPhone 16 and 16 Plus is only USB 2.0, extra speed of USB 3 will be a moot point. Although saying that, a USB 3.0 card reader will transfer from the SD card to the PC faster. Main reason I stick to USB 2.0 when traveling is because USB 3.0 uses slightly more power and anything bus powered directly plugged into the phone when traveling, conserving power is critical especially when traveling light.
I’m pretty sure this is what I have from years back
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/apple-usb-c-to-sd-card-re…
And I sure last time I had planned to move stuff from some cards I have with pics etc on it no longer worked, I can’t remember if it was the micro sd or sd cards or if it was Apple had updated software and the device could no longer be used.
I would not want to get the Lexsar device if my device still does it job or there is a workaround etc. thanks
Anyone used this with an iPad for travel? Saves me taking my laptop
Would rather the Ugreen USB dual A+C reader instead for all the USB A devices and hubs still around. It's about the same price too.
Direct plug in which is has it's pros and cons but one for me is can't get cable joint fatigue failure in stick form.
I can confirm from owning one of these that data transfer speeds are hell slow…
Are you sure you don't have a dud SD card?
thanks OP
would I be able to card read by hooking up with my android. I've got a moto edge pro
Why has a troll post got this many upvotes votes? A decent SD card reader is like $5?
Copying my comment from above based on the recommendation from @imcold for better visibility.

Same, also got a Samsung card from an Ozb deal, also I am based in Melbourne so will go with the Lexar.
update, apparently nanobyte don't do pickup. I will follow the above price match.
Got the adapter today, can verify it works at the DDR200 speeds.

Silly question:
I have iPhone 16, Go Pro Hero and DJI can I use this to dump files on micro usb?
For iPhone how can I transfer pictures and videos to external storage as I used to be able to do that in the past not anymore.
How fast is the card reading speed compared to Apple?
I'm transferring files from my DJI pocket and DJI action 4. Would this be good or the ones recommended above with faster transfer speeds?
Just in case someone googles this in future.

Thanks for the heads up.
Out of curiosity, why buy this one instead of say one of these guys (with the same and more options):
https://www.amazon.com.au/Adapter-Ethernet-Docking-Station-C…
Is it the brand, design, simplicity?
Math parties sound fun. I'll bring my equations on a micro SD card.
