Good to see the trend had continued lol I held for years , dipped like crazy, kind of recovered then crabbed for ages, I’d like to say I exited at break even but prob not given all the fees.
Presumably you can profit by taking the bonus and exiting?
doesn't Raiz have a monthly subscription? Pretty unnecessary for a service that essentially only does dollar cost averaging for you
33% 1y return is downhill?
Agreed. Lost a lot of money using them over several years and they kept jacking up the fees consistently.
Current unit price of the Universe Portfolio indicates a one-year gain of about 32%
The ASX Nasdaq ETF (NDQ) is up around 15-16% over the same period.
1 year return is not a representative sample.
agreed. they dropped faster than Cathy woods Ark funds when the covid bubble popped. if you want to live life on the edge just buy TQQQ
I didn't say it was. Was trying to read between the lines in the claim made in the post I replied to.
You prob. Panicked and took money out when Trump was messing around. That didn't just affect Spaceship.
Currently spaceship universe is sitting at 32% 1 year return and that's including its fund management fees.
The only extra fees is $3 per month and if you are a regular investor, that's negligible.I joined Spaceship in mid-2020 and left around 2022-2023. I was net negative without even considering costs. Every other ETF portfolio I have went up. I don't know what happened, but I wouldn't consider going back.
ETA: Just use Commsec Pocket or something. Much better imho.2022 was a horrible year especially for tech heavy portfolios.
If you divested around that period then that’s a bad call on your end, because since then Tech has recovered massively and you missed out.
You just have to be aware the active portfolios in spaceship tend to have growth focused tech companies so will whip around a fair bit. In any case, you have to give it 5+ years to judge them seriously.
My personal experience isn’t too great either, started spaceship in 2021 and took 3 years just to break even (joined via OZB as well and been told the same story 30% ROI per year)
TBH I can’t blame too much on spaceship as their performance is highly linked to the US tech shares, the only drawback is probably their increased monthly fee
Given said that, I invest some ASX shares at the same time (2021) such as QAN, which the share price has now been doubled (100% gain).
My lesson learnt is do more researches myself and understand what I am buying, rather than purely trust a fund and hopes they brings any returns
This isnt worth your time/money and you end up losing factoring in opportunity cost and inflation.
huh? You just put in $25, claim the $10 and cash out
Why're you using LLMs to create OzBargain comments where you pretend to be an eshay?
For attention?
I just use the round up feature and set and forget really
Same with Raiz just use the round up and don’t need to look in it any furtherQuit 3 yrs ago. The name should be ending with t not p.
spaceship is non custodial meaning if it goes down you will be right at the bottom of the queue as an unsecured creditor. risk is low but not nil, better options for a microinvestment app imo. when growth stocks fly it performs well but in a downturn it also drops more
I thought the funds are held in a trust?
doesnt mean much, CHESS will always be safer
I left these guys and started putting my chips in Vanguards international index fund. Been a pleasant ride and much less costly.
Better to do $200 in BTC from Kraken.
Why not both?
We noticed you habitually omit adding expiry dates to your deal posts. For this deal you clearly knew what it is because you wrote it twice in your post. Going forward, we will be removing your deal posts instead of revising them.
Hear, hear. Also is there anywhere outside of this OzBargain deal page that actually shows the $50 referral bonus?
Thank you.
Yes, I went the extra mile and found the full T&Cs.
If you refer a friend to Spaceship Voyager, we’ll give a $50 investment bonus in the form of units in Spaceship Voyager (Bonus Units) to each of you and your friend, when your friend invests at least $25 in Spaceship Voyager during the period starting June 1, 2025 and ending June 30, 2025 (Bonus Period).
What referrer needs to do:
Have a Spaceship Voyager account (Spaceship Account) in which you have invested at least $25;
Get your unique referral code (Unique Code) (which you can obtain through the Spaceship Voyager app) and share it with a friend who is not currently a Spaceship Voyager customer; What referee will need to do:
Open a Spaceship Account during the Bonus Period, enter the Unique Code in the Spaceship Voyager app (under Account) within 14 days of opening a Spaceship Account, and invest at least $25 in a Spaceship Voyager portfolio within 90 days after opening a Spaceship Account
Saw that - much appreciated - and read through.
Expiry date is there. I doubt most people read expired deals & long running deals from old posts … Removing people's deal posts is not something that makes people happy, right? We are in Australia, not North Korea …
Been in the subscription plan ($50 monthly) for 3 years, and finally break even last year then quit (joined at the peak in 2021)
then invest through Webull without the monthly fee (and $2000 bonus trading vouchers) by deposit $10k
The main thing I don't like about these sorts of offers (and I assume this one is the same) is the need for a lot of personal information to satisfy the financial regulations. You need to really trust the people & systems involved.
Where to add referral?
See the T&Cs.
Referee:
Open a Spaceship Account during the Bonus Period, enter the Unique Code in the Spaceship Voyager app (under Account)
Or did you mean where to add your referral code as a referrer to the OzBargain referral randomiser? If that's the case, then here.
Any withdrawal fees / restrictions? Or can instantly withdraw as soon as I get the bonus
Went through the process and made my withdrawal, looks like no fees which is sick. Gonna get $75 in my bank tomorrow
I gave up on spaceship last year, the profits where good few years ago then COVID hit and I was in the negative. Then decided to sell when I recouped my losses. It cost me more to get my taxes sorted because their reports are just hopeless.
Index funds > MF
Funny comments here. Investments are long term. No point riding a downturn only to sell at break even. The whole point is to ride the waves and take the net gains. Heck even if you get lucky and sell at a positive it's better than hanging out ages for a recovery
Well said, most people here just want to make the quickest buck with lowest effort/risk.
I started investing on Spaceship in Feb 2021 and currently the ROI is around 28%.
It’s amazing seeing the comments re ‘I lost money’
Everyone is a ‘long term investor’ in theory but clearly here you can see how long term people are.
13%+ return since inception annualised (7 years) and you have people that somehow made losses. To me that screams short term market timers and those are the usual suspects that speak louder than the quiet achievers.
Not an endorsement of spaceship in anyway btw. I don’t use them.
13% annualised return over 7years isn’t performing particularly well, QQQ etf has a 16% annualised return in comparison
Qqq is a nasdaq etf.
I would expect it to outperform almost anything that’s out there. Can’t compare the two.
Does it work if you’ve previously had a spaceship account (now closed)?
Where does this spaceship take you?
To the moon baby!
Why not just invest in VAS/VGS like everyone else.
Cmc markets let's you buy $1k worth a day for free.
I was with these guys a few years ago and at a point doubled my $50 investment, then they lost it all and went into negatives.
I only have 2 cents bal left . App won't give me a referral code now?
Have to have $25 min balance now so I closed mine. How long does one have to wait before reopening to qualify for sign up bonuses?
I agree that some people on here posting about losses over a very short term are completely missing how investing is intended to work, particularly during a period when most of the market went down.
To be clear, I too was in that mix, got in at the peak of the market in early COVID with a case of FOMO seeing all the crazy gains that were made after the market tanking in March 2020.
My problem with spaceship and why I felt duped by using them is.
1. Their entire selling point that gave them an edge over any other investing app was no fees, making micro investing attractive, can’t remember their exact tag line but something like “no fees ever”. Then they brought in fees at the exact bottom of the market which ment that you had to pull out at a loss if you didn’t want to proceed with paying fees on something that you were told you never would.
2. In my experience their funds were less managed as you would be led to believe, seemed to follow closely to NDQ or others.I commend them for being a scrappy little start up 5 years ago taking advantage of a gap in the market. But in 2025 this is a saturated market with much bigger and better players, I’d be hesitant to put any money in spaceship
Etoro bought out Spaceship in Sept 2024. Etoro are a publicly traded company, spaceship was not. Bringing in a signup bonus 30 days before EOFY seems a desperate attempt to drive up the active users numbers before needing to put pen to paper on company performance
Well eToro only recently listed in the US so it's not a surprise.
eToro acquisition was an even bigger red flag for me and I am progressively drawing down funds after the portfolios have bumped up. If you think Spaceship's original compliance history was dodgy, they got acquired by an even dodgier company.
Spaceship is for joke money only.
I've had my account for some time, mostly through laziness and not being sure how to deal with the tax return after withdrawing, but eToro buying it means I will be closing my account. I guess I'll wait the month out to see if I get any referrals first though.
Just wait until the thread finds out that Spaceship is owned by an Israeli company!
Leftists and one particular community is gonna start disliking the post real soon
Very annoying hoop. We need to invest $25 first before sending the invitation. Otherwise, the invitation is in vain.
Wow my Spaceship Universe Portfolio has gone up an entire $1 since my $25 investment. That's a 4% return! Time to cash out.
Just kidding, am waiting for my $50 referral bonus to land first.
Not worth it. Spaceship used to be good but their performance has gone down so much over time (even compared to Raiz who performed better by history), and they keep tacking on more and higher fees.
