100/20, $113 per month after 1st July. Nope

Leave after 1 month. $1 for 1000/50 is a bargain.

Keep the modem? Thanks Telstra shareholders.

$1 a month to hook you in and then an eternity of misery for your wallet

100/20, $113 per month after 1st July. Bargin, and here I thought paying $74.95 per month for 100/20 was a good deal. :-(

  • Haha bait and switch tactics.

I wonder what Telstra's customer base looks like who loves to pay wayyyy more for the same service

I’m on the SSBI until Dec 2028 now so I’m glad I was able to stop hopping, but this is a great deal to port in and out of if you don’t qualify for SSBI

        • cries because I was a kid in the 2010s and we had 300mb for $30 internet each month, and I had to beg my mom to use it bc she’d hide the dongle all around the house and make me hunt for it like it was the maze runner

Still can’t afford internet to this day outside of cheap sim deals 💀 oh well. Good on the current day students who can cop this

If you go to JB they will give you a $100 Gift card by signing up to this in-store.

    • Still $1 cost?

    • +3

Is there a link to this on JB hi-fi website?

    • Are you sure it's for nbn and not mobile broadband? Can't find link on their website, but might pop in to store to check out!

    • I can see the $100 TGG giftcard but I can't see the JB online, will check it out in person though https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/mobile-and-broadband-plans#

  • Horrible customer service. Once I chatted with 10 people across 12 hours and still no resolution.

Luckily decided to fork out extra money for a new modem and got better service and customer service

    • Telstra has some AU support now. How long ago was this?

my experience this year is this is untrue, but perhaps when you say some you really mean some

  • What's the reason that Telstra charge much more than other ISPs?

    • +2

The same reason any big brand charges more.

    • +1

There's really not much in it except the inclusion of a rather unreliable modem (in the case of the Smart Modem 3 — the earlier version was actually very reliable), 4G backup, Australian support, a phone line, and a pretty extensive routing network.

  • Apparently Telstra have some of the lowest ping times for international links but the service is a rip off. Not sure if this is still accurate. @Twix may be able to verify this.

    • If you want to connect to east asia, superloop is the best

      • Interesting. How does SL compare to GSL?

    • +1

That depends on the location. You would have to check with Telstra vs other providers looking glass.

    Terrible deal!

    • +4

$1 for 1 month is not a terrible deal and you can leave after that. Hand in your OzBargain premium membership.

      • But add the time and hassle of setup, cancelling, on this and then across to new provider is definitely not worth it, IMO.

        • Many providers use the IPoE protocol. Swap to one of those and you won't have to change any settings. Telstra gets cancelled automatically most times.

          • @Twix: Still requires a lot of time and effort sorting. Been there and do that…occasionally. Wouldn’t even consider it for this deal. That’s just me though.

          • @Twix: I'm thinking, for people on FTTP, up to 4 connections possible so get another this as another NBN connection for $1 for 1 month. Try 1000/50 for a month, muck around with dual WAN setup, cancel and return the modem before the end of 1 month?

            • +1

@netsurfer: That's possible but only if the other FTTP connection is 250/25 or less.

        • It’s a pretty easy way to save $100 to be honest. It gets delivered to your door, and you can do all the cancelling via live chat. You’re on your phone all day anyway, an extra 5 mins on live chat is a walk in the park.

          • +1

@eccaz: You need to factor in your next providor and transition to them in advance, ensure crossover occurs (no stuff-ups), it all takes time and effort, incl livechat (not a chance 5 mins would cover it with Telstra).. A couple of hours I reckon from A-Z….which is fine for many, oh and arrange the return the modem :-). If it were a 3 month deal, then well worth the effort. ;-)

            • +2

@Borg: Exactly! It's just a predatory tactic to fleece the forgetful of an overpriced 2nd month.

Would much rather go with a provider that gives you 12 months of guaranteed decent deal

              • @nismoau: Cost of living can’t be too real when you’re willing to look a gift horse in the mouth.

                • @eccaz: Having been a Telstra customer for many many years and experienced the frustration and the useless customer service that left deep scars and having just finished Therapy, there is NO WAY I would go back to Telstra.

Ok I lied about the Therapy, but I would rather pull out my own teeth than deal with Helstra.

                  • @Pashka: Don’t let it get to you so much. Know your rights and manage your affairs in a timely fashion.

  • now is eofy, I don't want to miss other better bargain with T. I think that is what T planning.

Can you choose the date of connection?

    • +1

      Would also like to know.

    • +1

I was also curious, as I have given a 30-day notice to Exetel and was looking for a deal. I tried signing up from my mobile and stopped at an early stage(35% progress) when, after taking the AVC ID, it said continuing would port your service. I then tried signing up from my PC, and it followed a slightly different flow. I was able to set a specific setup date between 9 June and 4 July(looks like 30 days from today). I was also able to decline the modem (I'll use my own and skip the hassle of returning it when i cancel after 30 days :-)). Hope this helps.

      • For me even on PC it says clicking next will transfer my service (once I've entered my AVC ID). Which method did you use to get to the connection date page? Thanks.

        • +1

I did this part on phone and exited without proceeding. I got through the final payment through PC and felt very confident order isn't placed until I give them my CC or bank account, having said that this is probably only a permission to migrate and no action will be taken until you make the payment, which was literally the last step.

    • yes you can.

  • +1

I regret moving to More nbn and was waiting for a deal to move to Telstra. Thanks.

  • Just sign up the 1000/50 plan for 1 dollar. will wait to see how fast it is. may worth the trouble as it is essentially free for one month.

  • +2

Not sure if they've catched up but they did similar deal a few years ago, trick was you just use their service and never hook up the modem/router they sent you. Their system wasn't able to see if you've activate the service and you will get sms reminder every few days. Last me a good 6 months before they manually force actviate them then you got another month to churn.

    • Are you able to use your own modem/router with Telstra?

      • Yeah you can.

    • Wow that's incredibly incompetent? Surely in their back end they're able to tell that the premise has tapped into their connection, regardless of the modem used?

I'll give it a go this time to see if this hack still works 😂

  • Good deal, cheap way to test drive their superfast NBN plan.

How long does it take to connect to Telstra NBN once you sign-up? I'm on FTTP, so I'm hoping I can connect immediately without having to wait for the Telstra modem.

How easy is it to cancel your NBN service with Telstra before the 30 days is up?

  • Switched from more telecom to this deal. Got connected within 10 min. However only getting 350 download speed on 1000Mbps plan.

    • Not all routers are capable of 1000Mbps. What are you using?

      Wired ethernet, Wi-Fi 5GHz?

      • Router is flint 2.

On 5Ghz network getting 400 Mbps now but on 2.5 only getting 100 Mbps. Router is in the same room.

        • 100Mbps 2.4GHz is normal. It's possible to get more than 400Mbps with 5GHz.

What do you get using ethernet?

  • It doesn’t seem to allow me to add a new service on a different UNI-D port. It only offers to transfer from my existing NBN.

    • cant do it if you already have 1000/50, if thats not the case then it might just be that they dont offer that through the website. You may have to contact support to have them do it on another port

  • Can you put an order for after 1/7 connection

    • +1

I tried signup today and this is what it said, "Choose a date between 09 June 2025 and 04 July 2025 for when you’d like the connection to start." . From the message it seems max 30 days window.

      • +1

        Thanks for that. That’s helpful

Might wait to the 30th June and hopefully get 30 days from then as I’m on 50% off amaysim deal currently

        • Good plan, currently with exetel, I'm thinking 1 month Telstra free and either the 6 months 50% off amaysim or 1 month free amaysim

      • Tried signing up today and got "Choose a date
Choose a date between 16 June 2025 and 11 July 2025 for when you’d like the connection to start."

  • I was looking for a 1gig plan, but Telstra = no thank you. Not worth my time for one month, and pricing is super predatory. I prefer Superloop 1000/50 $85 special price for 6 mths (normally discounted to $105)(typical 860/42) than churn, rinse, and repeat. Also, if you can con your family and friends to join, then you get discounts of 10% off per referral up to 100% off each month. I am currently with Exetel 50/20 and just got upgraded to FTTH.

    • Congrats on FTTP. Yeah that Superloop deal is good. What router are you going to use for Gigabit?

      • apologies for late reply… the work has been completed for FTTH upgrade in our townhouse complex, but I am still waiting for someone from NBN to come out to final inspections and to sign off on the work before we can go live, even though the green light is on for fibre on my router. (I purchased an an Eero wifi 7 from offcieworks for $297 which will cover me up to 2.5gbps speeds into the future) https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/eero-7-dua…?

        • +1

All good. Yeah nbn can take their time to activate a townhouse complex. Nice, the eero 7 router is suitable.

  • "Enjoy the flexibility to change your plan monthly or cancel anytime."

Op, can churn to another RSP at the end of the month without having to call or email them to give 30 days notice?

    • +2

      Yeah you can do that.

  • +1

Good deal for 30days. Thanks OP

Today I was at JB Hi-Fi and saw they're offering a $100 gift card when you transfer your NBN (Premium 100/20 only) to Telstra. The first month is also just $1.

    • +1

Nice! Do you know if able to nominate later start date if signing up through JB?

      • I’m not sure, might be best to ask in-store.

    • +2

And looks like $100 GC also available through TGG if that's preferred over JB.

    • Thanks for sharing. Took advantage of the deal today.

      • Could you ask for a later start date, or you wanted it to start straight away?

        • +5

Yes you can. The process is basically through Telstra website just like what you can do yourself. In my case, the earliest start date was 14/6 (the last possible date was early August). I think this is due to them reserving some extra dates for the router to come ?

          • @ozj: Hey mate, did you get your gift card on the spot or until after service activated? I'm just in store signing up now, picked a later activation date but was told gift card will only be given post service activation.

            • @Craze: I set my connection date to 2 weeks later and they gave me the gift card on the spot.

              • @Ezio: Hmm, I got told to come back after service is active to pick up the gift card… 🤦‍♂️The guy who served me was very green, kept needing to refer to his manager how to navigate the sign up process…

                • @Craze: Sorry for the late reply, they gave me the gift card on the spot when I signed up (JB Parkmore VIC). They had issues not knowing how to issue the gift card initially though.

My friend who signed up on 27/6 in Chadstone (VIC) also got the gift card on the spot.

Another friend who signed up with the GoodGuys on 28/6 got told that Telstra has changed ther T&Cs and requires the modem to be plugged in (service active) to receive their egift card. Apparently this is because many people signed up and cancelled straight away (before the modem even arrived) just to get the cards.

                  • @ozj: All good thanks for replying! Maybe they did get instructions by Telstra to only issue after service is activated, but I don't think it's tied to modem as you can have service active without plugging in modem (especially if you opted for option to use own modem and not a Telstra one).

  • During the sign up process it asks whether you want a new number? What does that do?
