Would this be good for adding more storage to a pS5?

    • +2

      Good enough in my opinion

    • +5

      Technically, no.

      In reality, maybe?

I'd probably get a lexar nm790 on sale, personally. (don't forget a heatsink)

      • +1

        Theoretically maybe.

      • Thanks!

      • +1

Agree, i wouldn't risk it. I was on the lookout few months back, my choices were either NM790 or Vi7000g - went for latter as it came up first with a decent price for 2TB around $170 mark (shipped from Amazon JP).

          Hold my beer

          • @Lexar ANZ Chris: I don't need more storage, I don't need more storage, I don't need more storage… Lol

      • What are the technical specs needed? I couldn’t locate on PS5 site https://www.playstation.com/en-au/support/hardware/ps5-insta…

        • +1

Minimum 5500 MB/s read/write (you could likely get away with a touch less write, but I'd stick to this read speed)

  • Is it good to be used as backup drive?

    • +1

      Decent

    • +4

Probably not cold backup. SSDs are not really good at retaining data on a long scale (5 years+ without connecting to power).

      • So magnetic drives win in terms of backup?

        • +2

          Yup.

The most effective personal backup is actually M-DISC. Most Blu-ray writers can write to them, and discs are reasonably priced given it can be stored in relatively challenging environment and practically last a very long time.

  • Hi OP, thanks for the posting. bought a 4TB SSD from Centre Com (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/906238) but it wouldn't fit in the laptop, because it has chips on the both sides of the SSD. would you know if Centre Com accept return like Amazon? question 2, is the 2 TB drive without any chips on the back side of it? Thanks in advance

    • +3

Probably best if you just ask centrecom?

    • +1

Both 1tb and 2tb seem to be single sided.

    • +1

This is single sided so will be compatible with laptops. Also it has lower temperature.
Poor victim. Centre Com won't accept return like that even you did not open the box.

    • I've avoided CentreCom like the plague due to literally the worst return-based customer experience I ever had about ~3 years ago. Utter (profanity) about it and to be clear, I was 100% within my rights. It wasn't some random change of mind, or out of warranty or anything like that. Just a plain old faulty product within the first year but they refused to help. Haven't touched them since and wouldn't recommend you do either.

  • This would be good for a NAS? I am new to this but thinking to setup a NAS using this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/908166 (beelink mini). Any suggestion would be appreciated.

  • Where does this compare to the fury renegade as a boot?

    • The significant difference is that this doesn't have DRAM.

    • +1

Fury Renegade is better, but not worths the current price difference

  • +2

This is actually a good price considering it's TLC with no reports of being swapped out with QLC.

    • How would it go as an external USB-C drive mounted in a Simplecom USB4 for a Legion Go?

      • +1

        Decently well.

  • Is this good for using as SSD cache on synology NAS?

    • Yep

    • yes probably too good, i'm using a much lower spec model (intel) for caching on my qnap nas (bought 2x of same used from fb marketplace for cheap after confirming power on hours).

  • would it be good as main OS drive?

  • how does this compare to the silicon power UD90 1tb

    • +1

I personally prefer this because of the brand

      • cheers, does seem like a really decent ssd

  • Not quite familiar with the differences with pricier M2s, but would this be suitable as a gaming/general purpose media drive?

  • +3

    Shows $89 now for 1TB

  • Really good price, SSD reviews decent for what it is.

Great SSD for people with systems stuck in PCI-E 3 - e.g socket 1151, 8th and 9th Gen laptops, etc.

Got two - one for a mates 8th Gen laptop and one for a mate doing a Z390 ITX build from leftover parts.
