You can request to port your number to Boost when activating the SIM. Before porting the number, contact your current service provider to confirm personal details. Make sure your Name and Date of Birth registered with the number are 100% correct, including spaces. Ask to update your details if anything is incorrect. Rather wait for price closer to $180. It sucks that they got rid of this plan. I'm having a hard time finding another provider with the same performance as boost, 5g days, without spending so much.

    • You wont i guess is the problem. It goes retail telstra network, wholesale, then others (optus et all). 5g days?

Boost is the only one besides telstra on retail telstra network. Belong for example uses wholesale.

      • Full post paid retail, then telstra prepaid and boost, then the others.

Boost advertises Full Telstra Prepaid network.

Boost is owned by Telstra now, expect prices to go up and value for money to go down - that's the Telstra way.

    • +1

I don't think we will see anything closer to $180 again.
I often wonder how much margin Telstra/Optus/Vodafone are now making compared to 2020 when the full retail price was $230 for 160gb.
I know there is more data in the current plan but somehow I feel I'm being gouged with the recent price jump.
I asked ChatGPT about this and it replied "Telstra's mobile EBITDA margins have experienced significant growth since 2015. In 2015, while specific margin figures aren't publicly disclosed, industry estimates suggest that Telstra's mobile EBITDA margins were in the mid-30% range. By fiscal year 2025, these margins had risen to approximately 47.3%, marking an increase of nearly 12 percentage points over the decade"

  • Can not check out
I think it was sold out @ 1:00am

    • Hi,
There is plenty of stock though.
      Thanks

      • Something went wrong with Safari on iphone!

        Just got one. Thanks

        • welcome!

  • what happens once the 12 months is up? can i recharge again for $230 or will i need to go onto the $300 plan?

    • technically it's $300 but there's plenty of chat of people buying another $230 or similar & calling customer services to have it applied (google is your friend)

    • My $230 from last year is expiring, and I can only recharge on the $300, so I will be porting to another provider, and may/may not come back.
It's been better for me than Amaysim, am missing the "profit" prepaids from a couple of years back.

    • Wait for another Boost offer close to your expiration date e.g few weeks prior.
Port out to another carrier for those few weeks once your current plan expires e.g Optus / Voda network on a promo pre-paid. Use up that data.
Port back to Boost. You are golden.
Technically you can port out and back same day and you are a new customer.
We always wait overnight as a minimum to ensure everyone's backend systems are refreshed. Then port back.
      Easy once a year.

  • Telstra tax. I paid $199 for 365 days 500GB with Kogan Mobile.

And all they give you is 160GB with this BOOST deal.

For some people, Voda coverage doesn't cut it.

      • It does here in Rockhampton QLD and it's a regional area. Signal is fine for me any where around the city. I rarely get out of the city area so it's good for me. Apparently Vodafone upgraded the coverage area.

  • +1

Got one thanks! With voda network now and pretty much no signal as soon as I go road trip. Miss the telstra network though it's more expensive now

    • Voda has a network sharing agreement with Optus. If Optus had coverage it would have connected to that. I guess that Optus has no signal coverage there either to roam onto. It must be in the middle of nowhere. So yeah you were better of going with Telstra or Boost. Basically both the same.

      • I wonder if anyone has noticed a difference since optus started sharing with Vodafone. Personally it was very unnoticeable haha

From previously working at a company that did Telstra work I can confirm on the backend Boost is (or at least was when i was there) the same console system. So that does confirm they use the same network (retail vs wholesale)
However…much like how they (previously)artificially limited boost plans from accessing the full 5g network/speeds, from experience in very weak signal areas (outside of metro so not counting dead spots) my work mobile which uses Telstra on an iphone se phone still has 4g connection (thats useable) whereas my personal samsung fold 6 on boost wont have connection.
Very personal use case and I didnt carry a sim ejector to swap sims so YMMV etc etc , overall Boost is the closest to Telstra for coverage but I no longer buy into its the same and they do have some restriction despite claims

    • -1

Telstra owns Boost so that's why it's on the same backend. It's the same connection as on Telstra retail. It's their sub brand.

      • ok… thanks but thats not related to what i said?

I am just pointing out, as some may be under the presumption "boost is the SAME as Telstra (coverage) because its the same retail network (owned by T)" , but in remote locations from my experience its not

For those familar/in WA on a Perth - Kalgoorlie run, I get FAR better reception on a Telstra sim than Boost where in bulk sections there would be no service from Boost but still 4g on Telstra

  • Isn’t this deal better :

Almost 3 dollars per month more for almost 15 extra gb/month

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/909261

    • depends on what you deem "value"

for me, i dont stream heavily when im out as i dont need to sit on the train for an hour
I have wifi at home and at work
so purely for the same 12 month period where data is not a requirement this is the 'better deal'

    • This might be little bit cheaper than that.

      Thanks

      • any $5 7-day sim plans to bundle with it?

        • Hi Sorry for the late reply. We don't have 7-days sims but we do have monthly ones.
          Thank you.

  • sorry to ask, this vs woolworth $170 legacy long-term plan?

    • Not sure how you get a Woolworths 365 day plan Recharge for $170 but the Woolworths Recharge is only 4G whereas this is 5G and the cheapest Recharge I can see online is $250

      • It is legacy plan, mate
