        • the weight difference isnt too huge anyway

makes sense to have the same drivetrain

      • Wth the Tiggo 8 takes premium fuel?? It's a 1.5l turbo that makes 105kw, what on earth is so special about it that it needs 95RON?

        • it means these dipshits didnt retune it for 91

i believe 91 does not exist in china but they have knock sensors that make it work fine on e10 and 91

  • +2

Makes the BEV look very expensive and merely palatable after the FBT exemption.

A 7 seater for this kind of money. Competition is on.

  • would this be a deal or technically RRP?

  • +7

PLEASE CHINA, JUST GIVE ME A LWB MID/HIGH-ROOF PLUG-IN HYBRID VAN!!!

    (EREV/series hybrid works as well)

    • +1

it's coming.. lots of MPVs. Denza will probably have one soon. Xpeng X9 is due end of year but BEV

      • +3

MPVs have seats in them. I want delivery/tradie/panel vans, to turn into a motorhome.

        • +1

sharks is your only choice… tradies in China can have tons of van options with 10k aud that is why no any hybrid van

          • @Louisbargain: I hope the Shark 7 gets a cab-chassis option, so that it can be modified into a motorhome.

            • @FujinShu: Don't need a cab-chassis - just rip the tub off and put it on the frame

        • ah. good idea for camping. Shark+caravan would be my go to until something comes along which I'm sure will

  • -1

Waiting for the Omoda 9. Just looks a bit better IMO

  • +5

A friend of mine argued that plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) aren’t a good choice because they require maintaining both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. According to him, this means higher maintenance costs and lower long-term reliability compared to purely electric or purely petrol cars.

    • Same goes to hybrid / NON plugins ?

    • +2

you want the best of both worlds, you got to have the worst of both worlds. common sense really

    • which mean you just need to service small engine and small battery System. and phev use most common technology so services is cheap.

      • if you buy a toyota hybrid then its about the same as their petrol models

but they've been doing this pre 9/11… they got it down pat

now ask yourself if you trust any non toyota hybrid let alone the chinese

        there's some 10yr old hybrids from other established manufacturers… are they worth buying… I dunno… I wouldnt

and so with the chinese being so new at this… ie. 1st gen, are they worth buying… I dunno… I wouldnt

        • and so with the chinese being so new at this…

lol nice one. China has 11mil PHEVs of the 20mil or so PHEV worldwide registered..and produces more

          • @V2L: over what time scale???

            that's the important thing

this is chery's first phev on the market

you might want to question what kind of newly trained dipshit is looking after your phev here

            • @tonyjzx: 17 years. it's not a new or complex tech with a 10yr wty to boot. i'd go with a SL6 for reliability but hard to go wrong with a long warranty

              • +1

@V2L: chery sold the j11 hatch 10yrs ago then pulled out and then came back and denied they ever sold that car

it may be great but many people wouldnt trust their first hybrid effort here and i dont begrudge people who hold a company in disdain for pulling out and then coming back in

                • +1

@tonyjzx: Short memories unfortunately. I wouldn't trust this company given their history, easy to just ghost Australia again and that warranty ain't worth the paper it's written on

                • @tonyjzx: ah you mean Chery, yes I'd agree I'd spend more and get safer bet

    • +4

Exactly. For a family with two vehicles you'd be much better off with one pure EV and one pure ICE vehicle. Doing most of the driving in the EV of course.

    • Well, I’ve been driving the little Toyota Prius C with its minimally hybrid technology for about 200K km, and maintenance costs are nothing out of the ordinary, although of course that’s to be expected of Toyota.

Neither the ICE nor the electric motor has to work as hard as they would if they were the sole powerplant, so higher maintenance costs and lower reliability just haven’t been an issue so far.

      • thats toyota but

they break the mould on a lot of things

  • +1

Why do all these chinese manufacturers hate colour? they only ever have blue, black white and grey.

  • -8

If you have driven a Chery before… you know they are pieces of shit

    • -2

Same as MG. My Hyundai is on for a warranty repair and they've lent me an MG - what a steaming pile o' shite it is too.

      • Depends on the model of the MG. Not all of them are the same.

        • -3

          MG3

          • @R4: That is the worse one

But I approve the EV MG4

          • +2

@R4: ICE MG is a big nope

          • @R4: Yeah you cant judge the entire MG based on that car. I know my Mg4 will gap you every red light.

    • They are cheap. It’s doesn’t matter if they drive shit.

      • -1

There are cheaper and more reliable cars / drive good cars that are new

        • if they were so many great alternatives they wouldnt even sell in this market and yet here we are

i maintain the chinese are only relevant because tradtional companies have failed… like ford and holden

    • Which model did you buy / own? Can you tell us more about the ownership experience? Or did you rent a vehicle? If you rented a vehicle, which one was it and explain in clear terms what was the pros and cons of that vehicle. How long did you own it for or rent it for? Would be great to hear this in more detail.

      • Are you thinking of buying one?

    • I’m not shilling for the brand or anything, but I bought an Omoda E5 earlier this year and I’ve found it to be quite a nice driving car for the money (aka very cheap, I paid $37k).

Sure it isn’t perfect and some of the materials are very cheap, but it’s certainly better than I would expect for a brand new car I only paid $37k for. Also for an EV it’s surprisingly light (1800kg) and handling is nimble enough. Have even taken it on a couple of road trips and it’s perfectly comfortable for a few hours on the highway.

      • +1

Well someone has to buy it

    • Pretty sure all cars have CCP parts if you put it like that

      • 25yr old plus falcons and commodores were at least 50% china parts

people think ford and holden were too stupid to source their bits from china… theyre multinationals

also as if president xi gives a flying shit about you and your stupid activities lol

    • -1

What brand do you recommend then? Mahindra?

      • -7

The Mahindra Pikup is actually pretty good.

Any brand that's not owned by the CCP (the most evil organisation in existence today).

    • -2

      Forget kill switch paranoia.
You're further enriching a hostile entity — just keep feeding that beast you dullards!

      • nice to see the murdoch propaganda machine is still well oiled

        • -3

Keep your head buried in the sand mate.
I'll keep my eyes open and spend my money wisely.

  • Need to find out what the real-world fuel consumption figure is for petrol driving only mode. Wonder if it gets close to the Toyotas for fuel efficiency.

  • I have a 2005 Toyota Sedan. Is it worth upgrading?

    • What's a Toyota Sedan? I've never heard of that model.

      • -1

I’ve never heard of the model model

    • Prob not

      • Thanks bought two

    • A PHEV SUV is a big upgrade from a 20 year old sedan in terms of efficiency, features and space. If you want to use your new car for 20 years too, a 2025 Toyota sedan or SUV is a better option.

      • But a 2025 Toyota SUV costs a lot more

  • -2

$39,990 "bargain" 😂😂😂 so tempted to downvote this

    • +3

just downvote anyway, thats your right

only 'tempted'? lol what weak piss

    • have you bought a car in the last 5 years? we're bring taken for a ride. pun intended

      • No I have a 2005 car

        • there you go. 40k doesn't get you much these days

          • @V2L: Compared to what? It gets you a 2025 car

            • @freeb1e4me: that's the point. go compare what 40k can get you nowadays

              • @V2L: It gets me Australia’s cheapest PHEV. What point are you trying to make?

                • @freeb1e4me: I'm not sure why you jumped in, I'm replying to MrZ. I'm saying this is a lot of value

                  • -2

@V2L: I’m allowed to jump in and out

                    You talk weird.

                    • @freeb1e4me: feel free

                    • @freeb1e4me:

                      You talk weird.

are you old enough to drive?

                      • -2

@V2L: Are you good at Maths?

                        • @freeb1e4me: sidestepping the question I see. and yes.

                          • @V2L: As per above try this Maths question 2025 - 2005 =?

                            • @freeb1e4me: I have no idea what point you are trying to make and I really have zero interest in finding out.

                              • +1

                                @V2L: Hahaha… you have a good night
