  • Can SMS be received overseas without a roaming pack on Kogan?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +3

Yes, but not in all countries. The countries where this works may be the same as the Eligible Roaming Countries for the roaming packs.

    • Depends on which overseas

    • I’m curious to know if VoWifi works overseas too, since I understand it does for Telstra / Boost.

      • It does with Boost and Telstra but I don't believe it does with anyone else.

  • This is very good deal indeed. Rural areas may get weak or no reception though.
Do not forget to cancel auto charge in account or by phone.

    • +6

Rural areas may get weak or no reception though.

Should be equivalent to Optus now with the network sharing deal.

      • Bought this for Wife but still having issues in Western suburbs (Truganina) in Melbourne with poor connectivity.
She has Pixel 7 and not sure if I've to enable any setting. I've already enabled choose best network but it doesn't always help. If not for wifi calling, we might have no reception at all.

        • +1

My workplace is in Derrimut and there is bad reception for all the networks. I have Aldi, Amaysim and Kogan. Aldi is the worst (on telstra network) and even people that have direct telstra plans get terrible reception here. Amaysim (Optus) and Kogan (Vodafone) are about the same, but still not great.

      • this is absolutely incorrect, I have optus and vodafone on same phone one gets reception in rural and one doesn't Optus still have their own towers that are not shared with Vodafone

Voucher expires at 11:59PM AEST on 31/07/2025. Activation must be made before the voucher expiry date.

    • Can you buy as a gift for someone else to activate or must be under the purchaser?

      • iirc you get a voucher code by email that can be used by anyone for activation or recharge. if you order a sim it gets sent to the purchaser and can be used by anyone for activation

  • FFS I bought the 300 gig one yesterday

    • +4

      Sounds like a bad gig

      • +2

        Bad gig that bytes

    • Me too, bought it last night

  • +4

i'm a bit disappointed the plan price has gone up from last year

    • Me too. I'm switching back to amaysim.

      • may i ask what is the amaysim deal? thanks

  • Is there any problem to port number from Vodafone?

    • +1

No issues at all, i was originally with vodaphone before porting over

  • +1

I blinked and the price went from $159 to $189

    • 300gb one is still $159.

  • -1

I dont see why cant they add international calls, everyone offers it.

    • +2

      Beggars can't be choosers

  • +1

Been using this for 2 years, Ill change it this year. Good for money but the coverage is bad
The service is terrible in Melbourne. I am using iPhone11
My wife just moved to Vodafone as well, and its same thing, she regretted it. She is using iPhone 16.
Im going to port out to Telstra maybe this time

    • This makes sense since Kogan uses the Vodafone network for its coverage

  • +1

Good for those who need it but I'll just grab the Catch one then

    • What is the Catch offer you are changing to?

  • +1

if i want to use it to recharge an existing service, do i select "no sim" and then receive a recharge code?

    • +1

That’s correct, you will get a voucher code in email and just plug that in the kogan mobile account

  • Ill have to double check but purchased the 300gb 12 month sim for daughter last week and when number transferred I swear we saw it was 5G.

Edit. Nope I was wrong. Only 4G

  • I'm gonna switch to this when my Boost expires. I'm a bit disappointed in Telstra coverage in metro SYD. My girlfriend on Optus gets much better coverage inside shopping centres.

    In the past 12 months:
My Telstra has been better once, during a music concert at Olympic Park.
Her Optus has been better 10+ times, all within shopping centres where I literally can't even move money into checkings from savings due to no reception. I've had to hotspot off her phone whilst standing at the check out just so I can transfer funds.

    • +1

btw this wont get the same signal as Optus indoors. Vodafone only use Optus rural towers. Optus has better coverage in metro areas then Voda does

      • Hmmm that's not great - thanks for letting me know. But I guess it may be best for us to 'hedge' and be with separate providers in case any one of them is down.

    • Same i cut my Vodafone early to get boost also and now regret it. Surprisingly the Vodafone works better now. The old Kogan was Optus 5g and wasn't that bad tbh

Let's wait for this deal to make a comeback.

    • yeah, it would be good, but i thinks the wholesale costs have gone up

    • Time would be now cause it usually happens at EOFY.

    • I'm hopeful…consider OnePass-Mobile: offer seems to be LOW-end due to criteria, 'New Services only', https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/onepassmobile.com.au

      Mobile providers increase-prices twice/yr?

    • That’s what I have been waiting for but given this expires 31/7 this is the replacement to last years 500GB $150 deal. Obviously increase in pricing this year.

  • +1

Feel like 4G only kills it for me. 4G is going to start getting neglected with all bandwidth directed towards 5G and 4G just sitting there as the "backup"… Like 3G used to be.

    • +2

not scientific but based on current experience, I haven't noticed any issues using a 4g only sim. I dont think 4g will be the "backup" untill 6G (?) comes out

  • 4g isn't too bad good deal and we can receive sms from oversea when we're use roaming?

  • +3

I am not a fan of Kogan in general at all but have used their 365 day plans for the last 7 years or so because they're far and away the best value. Every year I look for better value ones but never find it because they always have these sales around this time of year.

  • not as good as last year $150 for 500 GB

    • I feel like these guys are trolling ozbargain and saw everyone was holding out for the $150 when prevous sale price up till now has been $200 so now they can fk us…

  • +1

FYI, Kogan porting team are complete garbage. Call centres are in Indian. One of the worst, if not the worst, customer experience wise

    • While the support staff are outsourced, I've never had a bad experience outside of minor difficulty understanding an accent. They've always resolved my problem in a minimal amount of time.

      • I've never had a bad experience outside of minor difficulty understanding an accent. They've always resolved my problem in a minimal amount of time.

The fact that you had multiple problems with Kogan, by the sounds of it, is a big problem in itself regardless of the accent

    • There is no need to contact Kogan by phone to port your number, do it on the handset or your computer. Follow the instructions, leave your old SIM in till it stops working.

      • The contact part comes when your port fails…

  • +1

Thanks for this deal, Picked up a voucher for a recharge I was doing. Possibly the best value 365 day plan on the market every year

  • +2

Can existing customers get this deal too? Last year's 365 Plan just ended on me, so looking to return.

    • +2

I had the same question and cannot see anywhere where it says it's for new customers only. I also can't find anywhere that it explicitly says existing customers can get this deal, but this implies we can:

If you are already a Kogan Mobile customer, simply login to your account and use your voucher to recharge.

(That text is under “What happens after I purchase my voucher code?”)

      • +1

Kogan responded back to me that YES previous customers can subscribe —

        "Thanks for getting in touch.

The prepaid plan Kogan Mobile Prepaid Voucher Code: EXTRA LARGE (365 Days FLEX | 500GB) - eSIM INCLUDED for $189 is available for both new customers and those whose plans have recently expired.

For further information, please contact the Kogan Mobile team."

  • What does everyone prefer 500GB for the year or 40GBs per 30 days.

    • Depends if you have self control! I personally have 500 lump sum because i like knowing i am not limited. But I had to switch my relative to 40gb/month because she somehow blew through 500gb in 6 months… yes she is one of those facebook livestream aunty at every event.

      • haha Facebook livestream aunty. love that

      • Oh you can switch it to monthly allowance after buying? I think i got daughter the lump sum data

        • no i dont think you can switch it midway through. I recall having to buy the 500gb again since she completely used it all up

    • 500 upfront, makes for good backup data if your home internet goes down for a while

    • I did lump sum so im not losing any unused monthly data. Couldn't find it stated anywhere if it rolled over monthly

    • +1

500 up front. This is my only internet and I hot spot off my phone for everything and still have around 180GB left with only one month to go. Great never having to check how much I have used and never a need to limit use.

  • -8

bad deal, international calling should at least be included.

    • +1

      Cheaper alternative suggestion please?

      • Coles Mobile, wait for sale next week, goes for $179 210GB and it uncapped speed on 4G so you get around 400mbps but kogan is capped

        • +4

$179 for 210 GB very expensive

          • @Rebu: unlimited calling to most countries and uncapped speed. seems good to me

    • +2

International calling in the last 5 years with whatsapp, facetime etc, isnt a big of a deal as it used to be, its mostly about data for 99% of people

  • I’m assuming we can use for recharges?

    • +2

From under "Plan Information & Terms".

~Kogan Mobile’s Extra Large 365 Day Offer is valid for new and existing Kogan Mobile customers.

      • Thanks

  • I need some help please. My situation….
I'm medically housebound now and have a monthly $65.00 Telstra plan. I mainly receive calls and don't need much data as I am home, so it's a waste of money now.
Live outside a small country and I know Optus works fine here.

Do I just ring Telstra and cancel my mobile account and can I use my current number if I buy the lower $159.00 deal. Anything I need to know before activating the new service?

Thanks very much. I do appreciate it.

    • Hey Rattle, Kogan is with Vodafone but you should be able to get the regional coverage with Optus - best to check the Vodafone maps.

You don’t need to cancel with Telstra, when you purchase another service and port (transfer) the number, the losing provider will automatically close your account.

As you’re housebound I would maybe see if you can get someone to stay with you during porting, just in case you lose reception. Essentially when your Telstra service says no coverage, you can put it in your new sim and it should just work.

  • I keep hoping for a cheap annual plan — currently on $120 / 60GB with OnePass (Catch Mobile). I hardly use half that data but it seems most offers now are for more data and hence more $. Actually I'd be happy with 30 GB lol Anyone know of anything cheaper than Kogan's $159 for 300 or OnePass's $149 for 200?

    • Kogan Mobile Small 140GB 365 Day Plan is $150.

I'm hoping there will be a discount deal on it in July, such as this deal last year for $99 on the Small Plan (then 120GB).

  • Anybody switch from EzySim to Kogan have issues? This deal looks pretty good to pass up

  • +1

Not as good as last year, ended up picking the 300GB one. If you have a Westpac card you might have $10 off $50 spend in the app under rewards. Also used shopback super swap GC for 3% off.

  • This or the Lyca 600gig deal?

  • 4G or 5G?

    • 4G only

      • It's more than enough. I used both 4G & 5G on Kogan before they removed the 5G, and don't find 5G any better but data draining like crazy.

  • Is it possible to use the kogan sim in a nighthawk M6 router for home wifi?

We are heading away and will be cancelling our nbn. Looking for an alternative to keep wifi on at the home so cameras can be viewed

    • Like to know too.

Tried last years kogan deal in my telstra branded Inseegp Mifi M3200.
Then connecting my ph to its wifi I could browse the internet buy not connect to apps. Weird. Don't know if it was sim or the M3200 doing the restriction.

  • Can Kogan Mobile users on 365 Flex Plan received SMS messages while they are overseas for 'free' when roaming? That could mean all the difference while travelling for me… especially due to 2FA

    • See 1st comment

  • Does anyone know: if I have data allowance remaining when I recharge, does this get preserved and added to the new/recharge data allowance?

Trying to decide if I should recharge before the old plan expires or not.
