$900 for a 4070 super, $250 for the 8500G. I'm not really seeing a deal on my end.

What a weird cpu to put in a pc with a gpu.

That's a really bad match-up for the CPU and GPU. That processor is fairly weak since that uses a hybrid core config. You get 2 "Zen 4" performance cores and 4 "Zen 4c" efficient cores, for a total of 6 CPU cores. So only two of the cores can do any heavy lifting while the other efficiency cores focus on running background task. Most likely you'll get Ryzen 5000-level performance.

There's a Radeon 740M built into that processor so it sacrifices a whole bunch of L3 cache (16MB, normally you'd expect 32MB) and CPU cores just to fit in GPU cores. Less L3 cache = worse gaming performance.

(another caveat, the discrete Gpu will only have 4x lanes of PCIe 4.0 available, even if your Gpu supports 16x lanes)

    • wouldnt you just get a 7800x3d or failing that, a cheap 7700 from alixpress?

Less hassle and time cost to just buy a more rounded / balanced build from an SI.

    • Nice explanation thank you

    • Pls consider sharing your knowledge on LOW-end gaming-PC posts, eg TechFast. There're novice who are lost with many paid & bias reviews on the internet.

It's better to get your PC built with Nebula or Techfast.

      Unless you want it quicker

Pay more to get a shit setup quicker, or pay less to get an optimised setup slightly later. Not a hard choice to make. Don't forget all of that lovely HP bloatware that comes with the "quicker" machine.

        • There's many reasons people might go either way, but you would hope most people would know how to install a clean OS on their PC that has no "bloatware".
If you wait a year or two, you might get a better value and better pc, so really just up to how long you want to wait. I see many posts on techfast of people waiting months and months waiting for certain parts.
Personally I wanted to buy from Techfast, but my PC died, and I needed something ASAP so it wasn't an option at all.

          • @onlinepred: I doubt very much most people could do a clean OS install (let alone know what OS stands for), definitely not the target market for HP preconfigured systems. This is your middle Australia shops at Harvey Norman segment that don't know a GPU from a CPU. As for the independents like Techfast & Nebula, sure there's some people who have had less than optimal experiences but they wouldn't get consistently highly upvoted posts if every order had months of lead time. Reps are pretty responsive too.

@Captain Yobbo: I don't claim to know OZBARGAIN PC market or their knowledge. I said I would hope most OZB PC buyers might know though.
The last HP PC my work bought me, when the PSU died within 3 years, they came out to me and fixed it on the spot. Was pretty amazing for a work PC. I like to get work PC's that have some gaming potential, but still have great support and warranty. I didn't buy this, but my last PC was an OMEN and it was fantastic when I bought it at 60% off and covered by work since it was through HP EBAY

              • @onlinepred: That's awesome, go for what you feel is the most trustworthy & reliable seller. Glad you had a really good experience.

Might be worth checking out something like this and picking an upgraded 5060 or 5060ti for a similar price (plus double the ram, better processor, future upgradability, etc).
