there is a significant performance difference.
Unlike the PS5, the Series S is significantly underpowered compared to the series X. If you’re getting the Xbox, get the X
I mean, Series S RRP is now 550, so in this case, the significantly better graphical prowess and double storage space is definitely worth 50 bucks.
probably shouldnt type on the internet if you dont know how to use it homie
GTA
Grand Theft Auto 6 is still just under 11 months away from release, we could have PS7 and XSX 2 by then.
11 months for now given they dont delay it again ( they probably will)
I bet it comes out within a few months of the PS7 and XSX2. They can't afford anything less than a 9 on Metacritic.
@TheBardsTale: Rumour has it they're skipping the 6 and going straight to 7 - just to get an extra gen ahead of xbox and really rub it in their face.
/s
Target has the disc version for $724
That is not a deal. It regularly goes for $724 these days literally every week across different retailers. Its only a deal if it is $650 or under
How? White gets dirty real fast and tends to attract all the dust in the world. And can get stained easy as well
I love the S, but they needed to stay more competitive with it, it should be 350-400 RRP now. If they weren't going to push hard with it, I'd say this digital X for 600-650 would have made more sense tbh
There's no point investing into the Xbox ecosystem. Not even Microsoft cares about Xbox anymore.
No point in any of the consoles then since all their games on PC, Game Pass alone is worthwhile to get a Xbox.
Get off the sauce mate, I doubt you've ever owned a Xbox going off what you've said. Console wars is so 2005 and looks cringe. If you cared about games you would get a PC as it has all of them.
@Mooncakes: My lamentation of the industry at large is most certainly not a console wars thing. This whole generation is a wash and everyone is coming up with misdirection like this to cope. No wonder people can't stop being shocked at how many lay offs, studio closures and game cancellations there are when they cannot accept the most basic reservations about it. No, must be a Sony fanboy or something. It's like yall bathe in your own naivety.
Also I should mention that practically every Microsoft owned game soured me on the whole thing. One flop after another. WTF was Redfall? Star Citizen wasn't it. Waiting years for Perfect Dark. Glad I didn't keep my hopes up. It's just been a really disappointing run with Xbox.
Sorry but I can't believe this isn't a console war thing when you say stuff like that, either you are ignorant and aren't paying attention to releases or are a console warrior. Saying every Xbox game has been a flop is beyond ridiculous and just factually wrong.
You repeat exact talking points I've seen in clips of cringe fanboys, you can love other platforms without being obnoxious and there's nothing wrong with having a preference.
@Mooncakes: I enjoyed Forza Horizon while it lasted. You can’t enjoy it forever. I didn’t see what everyone else saw in Grounded. Psychonauts 2 was okay. Years too late on that one. Ori 2 was more of the same. Beautiful but travelled ground. Flight Simulator was a novelty. Had lots of issues with Halo Infinite (admittedly more than average I think). The story was lame and so was the multiplayer monetisation. Redfall was a giant turd. Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga came and went. Liked the first better. Starfield made me wonder if I ever liked Bethesda games. Still waiting on Fable.
I enjoyed hifi rush. But I guess my five star review didn’t do anything to save that one from being tossed to the curb. Wow I liked some of it.
Listen, I dislike every platform. My discontent is with the industry itself. If your bugbear is with me bringing up exclusives, I understand. Xbox has fundamentally failed as a console business. It’s a genuine sore spot. Again this isn’t something worth embarrassingly analysing through the lens of console war. Console exclusive are key to making the console business work. Discussing this is no different than analysis over Apple owning the full stack and why that’s valuable because it changes what they’re even capable of producing.
Xbox (and soon PlayStation) will cease to be functional as console businesses. At the current rate PlayStation will go the way of Xbox in about 5-10 years. Only Nintendo has succeeded in console business. Despite all their other problems, they got the fundamentals down. This analysis is entirely in the scope of what now can be produced and what cannot. Some productions cannot be made if you don’t own the stack. PlayStations AAA games aren’t workable if you gotta pay Valve 30%. Or even 15%. Make a Playstation store on PC? A lot of publishers tried and failed. Even Microsoft isn’t besting Valve on PC.
So get past whatever hang up you have about analysis over exclusives. They’re a core part of the CONSOLE business model. It’s okay if Xbox is done with that. You can argue they’re lame or they shouldn’t exist. But they are essential when it comes to the “legacy” business model and what that “legacy” industry could make. Console war tangents can safely be ignored as tripe.
Lastly my beef with subscriptions like gamepass is entirely personal. I feel justified in my stance against them. Especially given the recent events unfolding at Microsoft over the last three years. The never ending cavalcade of layoffs screams healthy business practices.
Call of Duty
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Avowed
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Doom: The Dark AgesAll of these dropped day one. Say whatever you want about the Xbox brand but Game Pass has gone hard the past 8 months.
@RaijnAU: Sold my xbox SX more than a year ago now. So I wouldn't have seen these. Haven't been interested in a Call of Duty in 12 years. Indy has been dead since Crystal Skull. Avowed didn't wow me from the trailers. The new Doom just doesn't have the same vibe as the 2016 one. IDK why.
Only one I would've genuinely play some of is Clair Obscur. I'd rather buy it though because nothing pissed me off more than coming back a month later when I had time again and it being taken off GP. Don't want to sign up to something that makes me feel forced to play something due to a time limit that isn't advertised anywhere until it's about to go. I hate FOMO in any context, let alone gaming.
GP might work for some people but it didn't work for me. I'm done with all these gaming subscriptions. It ain't a selling point for me but a warning of a cursed future. I don't think it's unreasonable to feel like I wasted my time and money on this one. Even if it's entirely a personal opinion. I feel similarly to the PS5. Only console that actually lived up to the name was the junky old Switch.
Cool. It wasn't for you. Move on.
Meanwhile, people who want one will buy one 💚
Calm your tits mate.
Unless you want the old games.
And even then… just wait for the purported emulators to come onto the new Xbox Windows.
Be like Nike… just do it/buy it!
Isn't this console over 4 years old now?? It should be selling for less than $400.
Don't look at Nintendo's pricing haha
COVID, TSMC, wars and plenty of demand keep the prices high.
Great price all things considered.
Xbox essentially abandoning hardware.
Would be a silly buy at this point as there isn't any exclusives.
You'd buy it for Gamepass access. Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox also, just the first of many games published by Sony Interactive Entertainment to be released on Xbox.
As Xbox says, everything is an Xbox. You don't need the box for gamepass. My tv has gamepass.
I personally use PC gamepass since it's much cheaper.
Yet a PC isn't cheaper. Streaming is only good if you have FTTP. Series X at this price is a great deal.
Cloud Game Pass is great as a secondary option when you don't have access to your console. It's a perfect companion. No way would you want it to be the main way you play though.
And I personally use Xbox Game Pass since it's much more convenient.
Why not use pc gamepass
Why not use Xbox game pass? You could literally ask the same question. Why buy a Honda when you can buy a Toyota? Why buy a Toyota when you can buy a Honda? It's called preference, something PC gamers seem to really have a hard time understanding and accepting.
@manbearpig: The poster above was saying you buy an xbox for gamepass access, I was just pointing out you can also use it on a pc.
The whole argument that there's no point in buying it because has no exclusives is really stupid as if that means everything. Just repeat that to yourself. What do you do with a console after you buy it? Yeah, you play games on it. You can do that with the Series X. Game Pass is also an exclusive in itself by definition as it does not exist on competing platforms,
(not including PC).Have you ever considered that Game Pass means more to a potential buyer than a few exclusives that you may or may not buy?
💯
Could be a good htpc if someone can crack it open and install cfw
I’ve found the series S to be powerful enough for casual gaming with gamepass. Buy one for $200 on fb marketplace then it’s a bargain
Xbox ecosystem is dying. There wont be any more big exclusives. Spend a bit more and buy a Playstation if you are starting out.
They’re ascending to compete with Valve’s ecosystem by utilising the heavy install base of Windows and the backwards compatibility of previous Xboxes.
Meanwhile it will be a fight between PlayStation and Nintendo Switch for a while, and perhaps we’ll just get both.
Well, until either console gives up physical media for DRM’d account-bound digital media.
digital
Would have gotten if they bundled 2-3 yrs of gp ultimate.
Disc or no deal
I really hate Sony and Microsoft's direction of digital store only consoles. Not everyone wants a Steam business model for consoles. Leave that and the $700 base 16gb GPUs for the PC gamers.
Consoles having mostly just one store front you can hardly find any reasonable discounts at all which is ridiculous. I have no issues with digital games on pcs as there are plenty of store fronts as well as retailers that sells discounted digital game keys that really create a healthier competition for better pricing. To make matters worse, some of the past purchases on consoles stores may not even work when new gen comes out where as on PC you can easily find workarounds or play on legacy mode.
Wish Xbox had released a black colour variant for the digital version. White is just not practical.
I wish they'd released a white disc variant! Both black and white are perfectly practical, the rest is merely your preference
Best retro emulation box evah
It’s an ex-box
Damn shame what Phil Spencer has turned Xbox into.
I swear one day people will get tired of a forever Xbox subscription. Consumers are really idiots sometimes, this all got brought about because Xbox live was such a success for the 360 even though Sony's PS3 online service was free. Some would rather pay an ongoing sub to save $200 on the upfront cost and pay all that savings back on xbox live.
I'm fortunate to have had a good run in the Live Gold and early Game Pass days. Got a bunch of legal 12 month codes when places like David Jones and Dick Smith had regular gaming clearances in the late 2000s…. and again later on when both places exited gaming (and Dick Smith just exited).
The PS+ subscription and furrent day GPU subscription pay for themselves, I've played and finished many games I otherwise would have been hesitant to buy on their own. But I've still purchased many games outright at the sme time as being subbed.
I'm not constantly subscribed to Nintendos Online service… I can live without that for many months of the year. My last Nintendo sub expired in June… I probably won't sub again until October-December.
Gotta give him some credit, he revived it after Don Mattrick & Yusuf Mehdi almost literally killed it with their "TV TV TV!" experiment.
If it was white + disc I'd buy it just because it suits the home decor (I still have the white previous generation console). Alas, my purse stays shut
Get the white skin decals from Temu 50% cashback :)
That's a good idea. I'm kinda stubborn though :)
Heaps on marketplace. Got a 2023 dated Xbox series X Disk for $430 few months ago. Teenage kid had on his desk whole time. Not a scratch. Did the Indian hack for Gamepass Ultimate $89 for the year. Pretty happy for casual gaming and trying day 1 releases etc
This is definitely the value console gaming meta right now. I also see loads of these for sale on Bookface. I only use my XSX to play Forza Horizon on the couch but can't actually remember firing up a video game since my daughter was born (2 years now). Life rolls on.
Seems like great deal can we do with price match?
Great price OP +1
What happened to Everything is an XBOX?
Showing as $749 now
Yep Microsoft giving up on the hardware soon. Laying off aloy staff in Xbox related subsidiaries.
Yeah right. So you claim that Microsoft is giving up on a multi billion dollar industry?. Sure.
Hardware/ Console yep… It will be focusing on cloud offerings more and spread the Xbox brand across multiple hardwares.
I can't see cloud gaming working too great on Australian internet.
