    I don’t drink coffee, I’m a tea man.

    • +1

      so a matcha guy ay?

    • +4

      Why not enjoy both?

      • +1

pretty sure when you combine both it tastes terrible

        • Do you always mix everything together before you eat?

    • Tea is Mud Diet.

    • +1

It's a thermoblock. Can use the water wand for 'instant' hot water at around 1000w vs 2000w and need to wait with a kettle.

Just a heads up to read the reviews before buying … 3.6 stars

    • +1

same hardware as the smeg bean to cup

      • +1

I was going to say this looks suspiciously like my Smeg one thats been running several cups per day (I WFH) for nearly 2 years.

        That cost me $410…

        • my understanding is they make a pretty good espresso

          • @0jay: Sure does. Same as my Jura ENA5 it replaced. At $200 bux you'd be mad not to get one.

Only thing I don't like about the Smeg is it isn't as "clever" as the Jura. - Like it will just stop halfway through a brew run if the water level goes below the sensor. Whereas the Jura when low will pre-emptively get you to refill the water before starting the brew. Thats just a pure software issue, the Smeg could easily have done the same with a line of code, but no.

            • @stumo: i would absolutely be all over this if i could justify the cost for just one coffee a day (i have minus zero benchspace)

              i still want one though

              • @0jay: At this rate, "big bean" will be paying you to take one off their hands in a few years time.

                • @stumo: when they figure out i'm resistant to their subliminal canine frequency broadcasts

Cheap price but reviews are pretty bad

At that price just bought one for the office. Gotta be better than a pod machine.

    • the only thing im scared of for office use is that it will break down faster with the constant all day use since it isn't a commercial unit. at home you will have like 1 or 2 a day. in the office it will be running like the 7 11 machines.

      • I guess it should be fine if it is set up in one's own office then…

  • +1

I had one of these. Great coffee while it worked, but it stopped after a year and a half (the internal mechanism broke). Have a Philips now which has been flawless for years.

    • All these bean to cup devices are complex, and they do have to do some actual heavy work - like tamping down the shot etc.

So they will all break at some point. Which is why I'm stocking up on a second one for $200, its almost rude not to.

  • +1

I've had this one for 4 years. No issues. Averaging 1-2 cups per day. Works great once you've dialled in the settings. Even if it stops working now, I reckon I've got my money's worth.

    • any advise for maintenance? thanks! :)

      • Probably just a regular clean out of all the removable parts (once a fortnight at least), and monthly descale. Nothing crazy!

    • +1

Came today. I chucked it up on our bench to test. Other than rudimentary grinder and shot volume programming I cant see much more to "dial in"
Coffee is significantly weaker than our e61 with a 18g basket pulling doubles(at 15x the price though) . While weak the shots are quite smooth and while the steam wand makes the milk really airy it gets nice and hot.

For 200 bucks if it lasts a year in the office for us 15 ish coffee drinkers its a steal.

  • Thanks OP, finally a reason to upgrade to full beans!

  • Has the deal expired? It’s coming up as $399 for me

    • I believe the price is for prime members only

      • ok so this mustn't be a prime day deal as such… where the other sales at least show me the option

  • Bargain

  • Bought one of these during lockdown, I thought it was good until the grinder stopped working. Then bought a Breville Dup Temp also for $400…now I really enjoy my coffee. This machine does not taste like Barista coffee at all, but does the job while it lasts

    • Reading a lot of comments it seems two years use is pretty common. I think the plastic gears give up after that

      • 2 years is already a long time. you already broke even in 3 to 4 weeks. compared to a $5 coffee 1-2 times a day.

  • I just opened mine and the dang thing won't pump and water through (grrrr).

Does anyone here have any tips? I've tried the plastic bag in the water tank, hose on the water feed, even used a brake bleeding vacuum pump on the steam want to try and suck water through! No luck so far.

Also, I can't see a way of getting the unit swapped out by Amazon, only a refund

    • Airlock at start up is common with these, or so I have read.
I think people just push the hot water button and hold it down for a long time although I would be tempted to try to prime it somehow

      • +1

I tried everything. Left it for a few hours, my wife had a play and boom, started working out of nowhere.

  • On to my second machine. First won't pump the water from the get go. Now the second is doing the same…

  • Could anyone who has this give a description of what the actual coffee is like?
How does sit compare to a decent barista or proper home espresso? Anything like it? More like a pod coffee?

  • Well first one had the airlock. The bag fix and push in and out 30 plus times wouldn’t help. Sent back and guess what… same issue on the new one. What a crap coffee machine. Owned so many different machines over the years and no issues. Would not recommend this at all.
