Thanks OP. Now I need to buy a drill to go with the bits. Any recomendations?

      • Thanks for the rec

30 NM torque is probably only good enough for soft wood and soft material, but not for metal and hardwood.

      at least 18v drill

Or this one if you need 18V, Dewalt is great for DIY tasks. But Makita can be long term investment if you are heavy user.

Casual user, Ryobi, there's 3 tiers of their stuff that all take the same battery, all quality long lasting tools, the dearer stuff has better refinements, Makita if you want something closer to pro lever, the stuff that's dearer … up to you, won't help a casual handy jobs person, look for a set if you want a few tools including batteries … if you're going to be near a power outlet, buy a AC powered drill, way cheaper and much lower cost of ownership, an Ozito 240v drill would suffice, I'd recommend an Ozito bundle if my experience with the stuff wasn't so terrible!

This yank reviews tools honestly, we get the same stuff in battery operated options.

Thanks for the detailed write up mate. I too think a set would work out better for me as I have no other tools and want to get into it.

      • Agreed, I have Ryobi for most of my home stuff mainly due to its great price to performance and almost all of their stuff is good enough (which you cant say with cheaper brands like ozito you can get gems but you can get atrocious tools) as well as the fact they have been using the same batteries for yonks - only got a dewalt drill as it was on sale and I use the drill a lot wheras for the stuff I dont use much (nailer, jigsaw etc) I can get three ryobi tools for the same price as a premium / tradie brand.

If this set is as high quality as the set of driver bits set I purchased a few years ago it'll be extraordinary value, have never had Phillips head bits resist wear as the bits in that set have.

Makita accessories are really great value. Their cobalt drill bits, cutoff discs etc. last so much longer than others and are well priced.

    • +2

Don’t the Phillips bits normally strip out the screw head rather than drill bit? (my experience when not paying attention)

      • +2

Had this shit happen so many times, I don't understand why it's such a commonly used standard…

        • Asked Scrooz if they were ever going to mover their pan head screws to torx or Anderson, they said they were working on it, that was many years ago and it's still not a thing anywhere!

I've has so called quality branded Philips head bits wear considerably when they cam, they do become polished and I use some sandpaper to roughen them up so they grip better, being up a ladder it's hard to be accurate and that helps … I'm building a home last 2 yrs and the Makita set I bought are indestructible, others even expensive ones … NOT so! stupid thing is I've had the Makita bits jam in the Makita impact drills I have more than any other bits.

  • How would this compare to the Bosch set recently on sale?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/914930

    • Apart from being OOS … the Makita set has 2 x hole saws, that's big $ by themselves & the Mak set has a few extra bits, quality wise, could not tell you

    • I wasn't going to buy the Makita set but I've just snapped 2 Bosch bits drilling through some thin sheet metal. Not that exact Bosch set but similar. I'm gonna get the Makita now.

pfft who would spend money on this when you can a high-quality super diamond glued HSS pure gold 9999pcs kit from Temu for free. SMH

  • Does anyone know what these usually go for? I can't seem to find what kind of saving this is. Cheers

  • Makita unfortunately devalues its brand by selling DIY and professional gear under the same exact branding.
Their hi-end gear is very good, but the brand overall is devalued by the experience of all these people who buy this set and the $400 drill/impact combo set IMHO.

I dont own this set but it looks like its not worth $60.

    • This in not worth for tradie?

    • Close look at the image & I agree as far as the Driver bits, they seem like the softer cheap ones, not the ones they sell in the smaller $50 sets that I buy that are near indestructible.
