I don't understand why do we even have all these so called providers when they're not providers, they're just service resellers. NBN is the actual provider and holds the ENTIRE monopoly of the internet service. There's barely any much price difference between all of them, $5-20 per month depending on speed plan you're on.

Competitive pricing means they're competing who can charge you more for same 🤣

There is some nuance around it. NBN provides last mile connectivity from your home to the Point of Interconnect, and then there's variance there, but again, a lot are just resellers of Vocus or someone like that. Back in the day there used to be more variance when they had CVC nonsense.

It's kind of the same with electricity, but that's even worse. That is just a billing computer, someone buying in bulk and reselling.

Imagine how much more property Australians could trade with each other if we didn't waste valuable productivity on NBN resellers and electricity/gas billers all doing the same thing.

    • Well at least in the case of an internet connection,it can be argued that ISP's are different in terms of customer service and bandwidth issue and international connections etc but for Gas and Electricity there is absolutely no difference in the product supplied.

NBN controls the cable between your house and the POI. after that, it's all ISP specific.

The links from the NBN POI's to the ISP Data center. These cost money, better providers will have better links. Cheap providers will usually buy only just enough. This is probably the major factor on customer experience.

Fiber between data centres and other ISP's. Again cost money,

Fiber/routes between the isp and international fibers/country's. Lots of money.

Basically the more money the ISP spends on the back end. The better performance is.

      • and the POI

        POI? Point of Interest?

      What's your point exactly?

  • mine shows 50/month, not ? 20 / month

    • 20 off, so it’s 50

  • Does anyone know if amaysim will upgrade the 100/18 to 500/50 in September

    • They will as everyone else is doing it.In fact Exetel is offering it right now.

      • Are you sure they will? Can they just keep it at 100/18 and offer 500/50 as a new tier that you can upgrade to for more $?

        • They will end up losing customers if they do.

          • @techno2000: Except for ppl like me, who are on FTTP, and the max speed available via any provider at this current address is 100/40. Surely it would be illegal for them to charge ppl like me 500/50 prices.

            • @HappyPants: All properties on nbn FTTP can get 1000/400. Do you actually have nbn FTTN, FTTC or FTTB?

              • +1

@Twix: Sorry, such a dodo. I meant FTTB. Sorry!
