  • Looks like a great deal. I bought the DSC-TX10 from DWI for $270 a year ago. Best I could get it in Aus was around $370. If this is the successor to the TX10 then it looks like a brilliant deal. The TX10 is a fantastic camera. I have used it underwater often to film my daughter swimming. The video quality is excellent and the wide angle of the camera and video is much better than the narrower angle on my dedicated video camera, which I never use anymore. It's small enough to go comfortably in your pocket (even with a tight-fitting third-party case - mine is Lowepro) and it has stereo audio, which none of the competition had at the time. The audio is really impressive - it is very good and picking up audio from the subject and avoiding the background noise. The only thing I don't like is the proprietary Sony usb-type connection, but that isn't such a big deal - unless it breaks and has to be replaced. You need to get a fast high-performance sd card to get the video to record quickly. I'd also recommend a case and rear screen protector as it can get dinged or scratched fairly easily.

I have the TX20 and can recommend it if anyone is after a good IQ compact, let alone a water, dust and shockproof one! 3" touchscreen is a plus. It definitely punches above it's weight!

  • I bought the tx10 for about $400. Lol. Its a great little camera, though. HDR, High res panoramic shots. 1080p video. THe only downside is slightly crappy battery life - esepcially for video and if you're using the bells and whilstles. SO I recommend getting extra batteries and a charger of ebay.

    • Is TX10 model up from TX20? TX20 doesn't seem to do 1080P only 1080i. I would grab one if it did 1080P. It's very compact, and on top of that it is water proof.

      • 1080p afaik . Almost sure

I also have the TX20 and can't praise it highly enough! Whilst it isn't as "tough" as a lot of other "tough" cameras out there, it is by far the smallest! It works quite well in low light, has a load of different scene settings (if that's what you want), the battery seems to last a while, and it's very simple to use.
People do have trouble using the touchscreen underwater (I wonder why!!), so be warned that if you plan to change a lot of settings underwater then this camera probably isn't for you.
For everything else, I highly recommend this camera!

:( I have an old TX7 which I got from a post from Videopro thru OzB, great little camera, I imagine this model won't disappoint :)

Where's Maddie from Videopro??? Any price beat? With free delivery? ;-)

  • 138 dollars @ http://www.itsdirect.com.au but not sure about shipping

    • +2

$153 approx including delivery for blue or black from those guys. Seems like a decent deal…..man I'm broke I can't buy any more!!!

  • I had a TX5 the original tough Sony camera…until my sister borrowed it and refused to return it. This is a great price for what is a pretty nifty camera

    • +3

She is just helping you buy a new camera. share the love :D

I have the TX5, a couple years ago u struggled to find it under $400! This just proves that times are changing with compact camera market struggling to compete with smartphones.

    • I've noticed this too.

Cameras are getting far cheaper than I expected; and I think it has to be that people are opting for the convenience of their phones (as you stated) rather than getting dedicated cameras (rightly or wrongly).

At least that's my perception. The phones are increasingly "good enough" for many.

  • Echoing the comments above. I have the TX-10 and have thrashed it on travels, and it's held up really well and produces great pics! Got it on the HN 2 for 1 deal, so ended up being around $217.

If the TX-20 offers similar services, then it's definitely a good buy at the price!

I'm interested in this camera but I'm a bit worried when some of the reviews are bad (see http://www.techspot.com/products/cameras/sony-cybershot-dsc-…).

The criticisms seem to be around image quality. It all depends on how fussy you are on image quality and what you want to do with the images. I have a Canon SLR with several very good lenses, but I use the Sony much more - because I can have it with me all the time. Sure, if I want to be taking photos for a special purposes - eg 1m canvasses etc - I'll use the SLR, but most of the time I'm just taking pics and video of the kids to keep for the memories or post online. Even so, to me the image quality is very good - and the video is very impressive. Better to have a less than perfect image than no picture at all because the camera is too bulky (and for me all of the tough and waterproof competitors were) and hassle to carry around.

I would pay attention to the reviews. m1nh is right, I recall looking into the DSC-TX range and the 5 seemed the best (better than TX7 and TX10) despite the TX5 being older model. I suspect this camera is not as good as the others.

  • how does the sony compare to the Panasonic FT3? (which I own)

    • Better in the reviews, but not by much

  • Awesome deal. Was looking for a decent camera below $200. Got David jones to price match and used the free $200 gift card from applying for BMW American Express Card (old ozbargain deal). Score! Thanks heaps :D

  • BTW The controls are very small given the camera is so compact. I thought this would be a problem for me as I have larger than average hands, being over 6ft, but it hasn't been at all. I actually find it very handy, excuse the pun, that it is quite easy to hold and control the camera with one hand.

  • I have the tx-9. fantastic camera for the type it is.
night time shots are superb even handheld no flash are perfect. this price is a bargain for the tech.

  • Full specifications are in link below, I have used dpreview for years to check cam info and reviews, awesome site:

  • I have a TX-10 and it is such an amazing camera. Not bumpy so I can just pocket it and pull it out when I want to take photos. It takes great photos and even better video. USB charging so great for travel. Can't speak highly enough of the TX-10.

However I looked at the TX-20 when it came out (excitedly thinking it would be even better than the TX-10) and it just seems like more of the same. I'd look at comparing the TX-10 with the TX-20 before buying a 20 assuming it would be better. I'm not sure where from, but it may be possible to pick up a new TX-10 for a far lesser price than the TX-20 and have almost the same features. Generally when a new model is released, the old model's price plummets.

  • Sony store in Chatswood Westfield is clearing them for $149. W610 for $79, W630 for $119. There a few others but couldn't remember.

    • Sony store prices seems to vary from store to store. Perth store has the W630 for $79. I believe the W610 was $99 and the TX20 was $199.

      • Hobart have the TX20 for $215 - I bought from JB Online. IIRC they had the W610 for $79

  • Wow - ordered Thursday night, arrived Monday morning - that was quick

  • Is there lower?
