According to camelx3 it's the lowest price it's been for quite some time. This battery charger gets great reviews here on OzB and on amazon, great for those Eneloops you just bought from Dicks

    Are these 220v or 110v?
Everything I seem to buy from Amazon requires they step down convertors.

    • +5

"World Voltage capable - Operates on 100~240V AC Input."

    • +5
      • I just bent the pins on mine to make it fit without an adaptor,

        • +6

          sounds legit.

        • I did that… and they snapped!
So be careful, the pins are very soft.

Was looking for a new charger but at this price, might as well just buy another one.

        • I just bent the pins on mine to make it fit without an adaptor

yup ive done that many times, works a treat. better than the bulky adapters.

I did that… and they snapped!
So be careful, the pins are very soft.

wow, just…. wow. what did you use to try and bend them? a jackhammer? i was told about bending them from a friend who has been doing it for years, im in a group where we import hundreds of outdoor wifi devices etc and its generally how we convert them and not once have i heard of anyone screwing this up.

  • Is waiting for this, thanks OP. Hope my order is not a death on arrival

    • +1

      Smeagol?

  • World wide voltage? Whats the input jack look like?

    • +2

Mine has the american style plug, nothing that a $1 adapter didn't fix :)

      • Where from?? link please?

Edit: Nevermind, thought you meant PSU replacement, not crappy pin adapter.

      • You should be more than happy to buy American style adaptor. When my wife bought a straightening iron couple months back the same HongKong seller was selling the same iron with US plug pins for third of the price. So I asked my wife to buy the US model and spend 2 buck to buy the Aus-US adaptor.

        • +1

I would be surprised if a straightening iron is multi-voltage capable. You will most likely be running the iron hotter and will shorten its life considerably if it is not capable or running at 220-240V.

  • Technoline BC 700 on amazon.de seems to be the same thing but this deal has a cheaper delivered price when just buying the one thing. Nice.

I have noticed that my Technoline BC 700 did not detect one battery that my 'dumb' charger did. Said "Null" on the display. My regular charger would immediately accept the same battery and start charging it. This may or may not be something you encounter with these chargers. So they aren't perfect.

I've got to say, I like having it though, and going back to an LCD-less charger offers me less features and is a lot less desirable.

    • +6

@ Cheepwun THIS MAY HELP …[Q9] I put in a set of exhausted batteries and one of them shows 'null'. Is the battery dead?
[A] If a battery has been over-discharged, its terminal voltage may fall below 0.5V and the BC-700 cannot detect it. You can kick-start it by using my "Paper Clip trick" (see customer image section for details), or by charging the dead cell in a dumb charger for a few minutes. Then the BC-700 will recognize it.

      (taken from sellers page !)

      • +1

        snappy1234, thanks for that.
I guess the battery was pretty exhausted so it wasn't detected.

Yeah, what I noticed is a few minutes in the cheap charger was all it needed to be detected in the BC 700 (I continued the charging in there). Good to see I wasn't the only one with the problem.

        Thanks again.

        • Don't they have a bundle of BC 700 and a dumb charger to buy together. You gonna need a dumb charger anyway :)

  • Thanks, ordered one ;)

  • Seen this pop up on Ozb a few times.

Sure I'm not the only one wondering though.. I do understand and I am aware that these get good reviews here. But what makes these so much better than say the Energizer or Duracell ones we can buy from Coles/Woolies? Longer lasting (more charges/maximising the capacity)?

    • +9

This is a smart charger which will keep an eye on your batteries and will stop charging individually once each one is full. The cheap ones you get from supermarkets usually have timers on and don't care how full / empty your batteries are (eg, they will charge all batteries for 12 hours straight). Thus, smart charges extend the life of your batteries so in long term they will repay their cost. Not to mention they are more enviromentally friendly, saving power and reducing the amount of disposed batteries :)

      • Thanks for that info! I also want to know if I already have an eneloop charger that came with an eneloop pack, do I really 'need' this smart charger?

Is the eneloop one also a smart charger as well?
        Cheers!

        • +5

You can continue using the eneloop charger (I have the Power Pack as well), but it's just not as advanced as this charger is.

You can select between 200mA, 500mA and 700mA charge current with this one.
Each battery has its own 'channel' so each battery is monitored separately, not in pairs. In reality each battery is slightly different and so getting a charger like this gives them individual attention and doesn't overcharge or undercharge as much as other chargers would/could, which can reduce their life.

There is a slight learning curve with this charger, so it's not as easy as the Eneloop charger but it can be just as easy if you don't touch any buttons: it defaults to 200mA charge current (pretty slow charge).

Outside of a hobby charger (popular with remote control enthusiasts), these chargers give you more control than garden-variety chargers and give you more status info (and some test/discharge modes that you may occasionally find useful too).

        • +9

The original Eneloop Charger MQN04 (e.g. the ones from Dick Smith) aren't fast chargers, they are simple timer chargers.

The following are the eneloop ones which are classified as smart chargers:
          1. Peak Voltage Cutoff (Speculated that this only really works with Eneloop)
          2. Delta V Cutoff (Better as it is more compatible with everything)

As far as the internet is concerned, only the following have Peak Cut Control:
          MQR06 - 4 Cell Smart Charger
          MDU01 - 2 Cell USB Charger
TGU01 - 12 Cell Smart Chargers (But don't think released in Aus yet)

The following has Delta V (But don't think released in Aus yet)
          MQN09 - 4 Cell Overnight Charger

The following are simply timer chargers (cheap and nasty):
          MQN04 - 4 Cell Overnight Charger
          MDR02 - 2 Cell Charger

MQN04 is usually the charger at Dicksmith which they do specials, they rarely do specials on MQR06 one.

Note: I haven't been able to successfully use Ni-CD Batteries on the Eneloop proprietary "Peak Voltage Cutoff" chargers.

        • Thanks heaps guys for such a detailed comparison!! This is why I love Ozbargain, the sharing of wisdom from users!

The Eneloop charger I got from the pack was an overseas one and the model is:
Sanyo NC-MQR02N which according to this review below was really good.

          http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?88105-San…

I guess I'll just stick with this charger then. But thanks for the post OP!

        • Probably a case of different chargers being bundled with different packages.

I got the Sanyo NC-MQN06U with my Eneloop Power Pack from a few years ago. This model charges in pairs, not individually.

        • Sanyo NC-MQR02N is Peak Cut Control
Sanyo NC-MQN06U, not much info online, but I think this is a Timer type Charger.

  • Does it need an special insert to accept "AAA" batteries?

    • No, it doesn't.
      Great charger, BTW.

  • Thanks, I've been looking for a good charger for a while

  • Damn impulse buys!

Had $6 credit to use anyway from the 2% cashback when I got a Cannon lens just before Xmas (again thanks to OzB for hurting my wallet).

  • I have some pure energy alkaline rechargables (ramcell or ram cell technology). does anyone know if this charger can handle these, mr google is not giving me an answer

    • No, it only takes nicad and nimh.

    • straight from the manual:

The charger is restricted to charging NiCd and NiMH rechargeable batteries only.
Never adopt this charger to other types of batteries such as alkaline, lithium, carbon
zinc or other types that are not specified.

I would say probably best avoided.

    • Not really, especially since this is a smart charger (e.g. programmed).
If you get a stupid charger, you may be able to hack it to work.

Ain't really that easy to do alkaline, as far as I know they are 2 totally different charging technologies.

Where as Ni-CD & Ni-MH are pretty much using the same charging tech.
Since Ni-CD/Ni-MH uses a constant current to charge, where as Alkaline requires a variable current or else the cell will burst and leak.

    • oops, double post

  • If I already have a per-channel overcharge protected World Voltage wall-wart free charger, and I use my batteries in sets, do I benefit from this?
It has the LCD goodies, but I gain a wall-wart and eneloops aren't that expensive nowadays anyway.

    • +1

It's a decent price but you've already got a 'smart-charger' and having an LCD read out isn't all that special.
my powerex does the individual charging, trickle charge, overheat detection, AA/AAA etc etc and all I really need is the green light to say yeh its ready and if you charge by sets, then you're fine.

Love the wall-wart description. save your money unless you need to charge more batteries and really must have the discharge, test modes and the 'fancy' LCD.

  • Crap, bought one a couple of weeks ago. $8 more than this deal. Great charger though.

  • Thanks OP. Have been waiting for good price for this charger. Just ordered one. +1

  • +1

Is this really such a good deal, considering there are no batteries included?

I think I'll wait for something like this to go on sale instead:

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/81114

(La Crosse Battery Charger - BC1000 $56.27 AUD Shipped)

    • +2

VVV, just check the reviews on the BC1000. I believe the bundled batteries are the major difference and they don't get much praise by Amazon customers…

    • +1

BC-700: It's one of the cheapest prices it's ever been, bar a few exceptions. If that's anything to go by I'd say, yes, it is a good deal.

I own one (paid a few dollars more than this deal) and love it. Eneloops are cheap, build up a collection over time.

    • +1

      $20 more for 4AA and 4AAA.

You can get good LSD batteries for that price, probably better than the ones they give you.

    • Damn it, you talked me into it, ordered one ;)

      Thanks for you feedback :)

  • This is a great charger. What separates this charger from most is the "Refresh" mode. I have several old rechargeable batteries which does not hold much charge but after going through the "Refresh" mode (several automatic charge/discharge cycles), the batteries are like almost new and can hold longer charge. I was ready to throw the old batteries (recycle them through Aldi's battery recycling bins), but his charger gave them new lease on life. I also ordered from amazon last year I think it was slightly more expensive.

  • +1

Simple to use. Put in batteries, if you want to discharge all the batteries first (most people say you don't need to with NiMH), push the button on the right (mode) for 5 seconds. It will then discharge the four batteries at 100ma. When each on is done, it then charges at 200ma until finished.

  • Temporarily out of stock. Order now and we'll deliver when available.

    Good work, OzBargain! ;)

  • +1

I am pretty sure this would have similar features to my Maha charger and one of the best features for me is that it can test the capacity of a battery so you can test if a battery actually holds the amount of charge advertised and to see if older batteries are still working well.

  • We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order.

    :(

      http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000RSOV50/ref=dp_olp…
You have to pick the Amazon seller. Although any orders now will be on backorder

      • Awesome advice, thankyou. Backorder works out even cheaper. :)

    • Strange, no probs delivering to AU about 30 min ago?
maybe the Aussies have cleaned them out and we are now being penalised?

      • Gotta do as cpho indicated :)

  • Also getting same message irrespective of which Oz address user "This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order."

  • Damn if it can charge 18650 batteries I would be sold. Are there any cheap ones that can fit those?

  • -1

I keep getting the message "This item cannot be shipped to your selected destination" is anyone else having this problem? I'm assuming it does this because electrical goods in USA run on 120V whereas Australia requires 240V.

  • Never mind just saw the posts above.

  • The La Crosse Technology BC-700 on eBay is AUD $55.77.

  • Been meaning to buy a decent charger to give life to my old batteries for a while now, this seems good.

Worked out to less than AU$37.

  • Unable to order for North Sydney 2060 delivery :(
"We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order."

    • Just below the order button, choose 'more buying options' and pick Amazon.com LLC as the seller.

Amazon is currently out of stock and thus why they removed themselves as the default seller, but don't worry, they will still deliver once stock comes back.

  • +1

My order has no estimated delivery date. it says they'll notify me by email when they have an estimated delivery date. Has anybody else received a similar order confirmation?

    • Yep same. Following the method cpho gave.

    • Delivery Estimate: Wednesday February 27, 2013 - Friday March 1, 2013 by 8:00pm

  • No possible way to pay via paypal?

    • +2

nup, amazon and ebay (who own paypal) are in competition with each other so theres no way to use paypals payment system with amazon…. unfortunately

  • so will they charge your CC while its on backorder or will they charge the CC only after it becomes available?

    • They charge once shipped

    • +5

They will charge once they ship it.

Not like here in AU where business' rape your CC as soon as they can.
Then after you have sent 5 emails over the next 4 weeks asking where your goods are, they will tell you they have no stock and they will refund as late as they can get away with it.
Of course if you don't follow up on it, they will keep it forever.

EDIT, ups someone beat me to it

  • -6

So do they ship to Aus? Are you sure?

  • back to $35.79.

    • +1

No its still $29.99. Check the More Buying Options section on the right side under the purchase button.
You would want the Amazon.com one:
      Looks like this:

      Amazon.com <Add to Cart>
$29.99 & eligible for FREE Super
      Saver Shipping. Details

      • Anything else required for the free shipping?

        I get the following:

Not Eligible:Items shipped to addresses outside the United States are not eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping.

        Order summary
        Items: $29.99
        Shipping & handling: $7.98

        • +1

Anything else required for the free shipping?

yea, just need to move to 'merica….

or you could just read the original title here

La Crosse BC-700 Battery Charger $38 Dollars Shipped (Amazon)

        • Appreciate you're probably trying to be helpful like most of us on here but I was referring to Iplau's comment that mentioned "eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping"

        • +1

Oh, I just copied and pasted what block of text people should be looking out for. haha

        • yea the free shipping (afaik) is only for local shipping hence the only way to get it is to "move to 'merica", its definitely not for us in aus.. which is why its clearly stated in the topic "$38 shipped" caus ya gota pay teh shipping on top of teh product price :)

        • Hey thanks all for the clarification

  • just got one, thanks O.P.

  • I bought 1 about 10 mths ago & it is not working now, anyone knows how can I get it fixed under warranty? thanks

  • advantage of this over the DSE chargers?

  • Just got a shipped email from Amazon saying has left TN and is now @ NJ USA :) yeeeooowww

    • Just saw the charge of $36.93 on my Credit Card after conversion (28 deg)

    • arrived in SEQ today (batteries slotted in already)

  • Hello,

We now have delivery date(s) for the order you placed on February 17, 2013 (Order# 105-3670137-7200255):

"La Crosse Technology BC-700 Alpha Power Battery Charger"
Estimated arrival date: March 11, 2013

  • Mine was on back order and is now listed as shipped as well.

  • Is it too late to put one order through today (20/02/13). Been too busy at work and i know videoguys selling the maha c9000 $69.95 pockup near clayton. But this $38 look alot smaller and they rate the same.
    Cheers

  • Order just got cancelled, apparently amazon has run out of stock and other suppliers aren't shipping to australia at this time, kind of frustrated since i bought eneloops and was waiting for this to go on sale (also I placed my order well before this hit front page so i'm not sure how everyone else is going to fare)

    • Mine was ordered: February 17, 2013
      Shipped: February 18, 2013

  • Thanks to the OP and all contributors!
Was waiting for the 1000, but after reading comments here I ordered the 700.
    $37.97 inc shipping to Aust.
Currntly on back order, but that's ok with me…

Any recommendations for reasonable-priced batteries? Preferably 2400mAh or higher.

    Y.

    • +1

      Any recommendations for reasonable-priced batteries?

theres pretty much 2 schools of thought on this. either the eneloops from sanyo or the turnigy from hobbyking.

personally i have both, both are the same tech "LSD" (Low Self Discharge) types, the hobbyking ones are rater higher mah and not as expensive even taking into account when the eneloops are on sale somewhere. both perform as rated (obviously the hobbykings last longer caus they are higher rated to begin with) so the choice for me is easy, its the ones from hobbyking all the way.

i have the slightly better powerex/maha M9000 charger but functions the same as the one in this deal and ive tested all my (have 30 odd both AA and AAA) hobbykings and even a year later and heaps of charge cycles they are still testing at there rated power.

im not saying eneloops arent good, they are awesome batterys. just in my experience the hobbykings are better.

      AA's
      http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__25023__Turnigy_AA…

      AAA's
      http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__25024__Turnigy_AA…

      • Thanks!

      • I do find Hobby King batteries are although good, however they come up to be slightly cheaper than Eneloops unless you order some other stuff and combine shipping.

Call me paranoid, however I always have a bad thought when it comes to Made in China items. Unless they are crazy cheaper (e.g. 50% cheaper) then I won't get many of them.

Knowing that the culture in China doesn't value human life, I would be mindful that the batteries may blow up and damage your devices or your health… As little as 20,000Yuan (~$3000) can buy off somebody's life.

Ignorance is a bliss, however once i've seen the S!@# that happens in China… your thoughts would change completely and be ALOT more mindful of Chinese products.

And Made in Japan > Made in China…. (ALOT better Quality Control)

(Not discrimination…. since my origins were from China)

        • -1

I do find Hobby King batteries are although good, however they come up to be slightly cheaper than Eneloops unless you order some other stuff and combine shipping.

You’ve got to be kidding me?

I’ve been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like.

          It’s just common sense.

          .

        • Can I have a translation of the above to English?
Google Translate could not manage it.

        • 8x Eneloops Glitter always goes on special for $19.99 (If you can hold out, I'd recommend it)

I've done some simple calcs here:
          8 HK Battery - $12.72 (Shipping $6.99) - Total $19.71 (SLIGHTLY CHEAPER!)
          16 HK Battery - $25.44 (Shipping $14.99) - Total $40.43 (SLIGHTLY MORE EXPENSIVE!)

So it is only cheaper if Eneloops aren't on special which they often are at Dicksmith.
