excellent thanks OP. Hope to have new AI and other improvements (population 200+, possibly more races?)
I've been playing the forgotten empires though.
    A classic game. Can't wait!

  • It's a comman mistake with a little too much space

  • +3

Might want to add that it's a preorder, released on the 10th of April.

    • 5th for those who pre order!

  • +1

Have already used a mod to play it at 1080p, it's enjoyable but the interface was stretched badly. It'll be nice to use it fixed by professionals, and updated multiplayer via steam should be excellent. I'll probably be waiting for a sale though.

    how…. bargain….. huh?????

Its release on steam…. pre-order bonus. Not up to OzBargain standards?

    • oh fine i take this down

  • how do i delete this?

    • +4

You can't, only mods can. I don't think they'll take it down as it is 10% off the original price ($19.99), and I think that constitutes as a bargain (though, I may be wrong).

    • +1

It is a bargain, just ignore Neo.

      • It's a SALE, not a BARGAIN.

Despite my concerns regarding this 'bargain', I will be buying a 4-pack, for family/friends….

        • +4

Since when are 'sales' and 'bargains' mutually exclusive??

    • Don't bother with the negative comments, there are 'patches' out there, so what? with the HD version, you can play along with steam friends as Windows 7/Vista/8 had multiplayer issues with the standard edition since it's a very old game, this would eliminate the issue as you can play with your steam friends.

I got this with my Nutri Grain 10years ago.

    • hahaha i remember those days i still got my CD and original package xD thats how i first discover age of empire

    • +5

You only got AOE1 w/ Nutri Grain

  • -5

All it is is AoE II with The Conquerors and upscaled/widescreen graphics, with multi monitor support.

You can get AoE I and II with their expansions on disc for around $15 at JB or EB, without DRM too.

And there are free widescreen patches out there.

    Would not bother.

    • So they're going to ship it with an IPX stack, instead of TCP?

    • +4

And have an nightmare trying to play online. This is worth the 17 bucks just for the streamlined online play, yay for aoe2

  • +2

It is good to be the king! wolololo

    • +3

      Start the game already!

      • Uh! I'm being rushed

  • did they redo the graphics or is it just an HD patch?

    • +2

Just checked, being a big fan of AoE2 I know what the graphics looked like and the "HD" version looks exactly the same , must be a patch to upscale, maybe apply some filter, sucky

      • +2

Yeah you're right. It's the same game with a patch. Lame.

"New improved graphics" is definitely misleading. They're the same graphics. And the game is overpriced. Plus making it a preorder gives it more credit than it deserves. Game is not a big deal at all.

        Overrated.

        • Yep basically 18 bucks for a patch.

        • Who cares about the graphics, the new system for online play is worth 15$ for any old school aoe2 fan

        • There are two thriving aoe 2 online community so maybe not that worth it. It depends on how you look at it.

On one hand, it's not all redundant as the addition of a universal, easy to use multi-player feature and steam workshop is a very nice addition that brings the game into the 21st century gaming ecosystem. In addition, the price of $18 is pretty minimal for any dedicated fan as one can get at least a hundred hours of game time easily in a year alone. In comparison, a movie here is $10 with vouchers and only provides 2 hours of entertainment. The value just cannot be beat.

That said, I do feel they should provide a lot more improvements (pathfinding, better graphics, mod tools) because as a game that was made more than 10 years ago with a graphics patch, $18 bucks is overpriced for new players.

        • $5 per hour of entertainment at the movies is better value than most video games. A game costing $79.95 would have to provide at least 16 hours to even compete with a movie, yet most games can be completed in under this amount. I've rarely heard of a single player campaign lasting more than 16 hours.

How much is it on the Indian site?

    • according to russell peters,

      'jaero'… it's beautiful

  • Enhanced Graphics with Classic Feel
    1080p+ high resolution support
Updated lighting effects and improved fire & water effects
    32bit terrain
    Multi-monitor support
    Windowed mode

A lot of people seem to be overlooking the fact that it also has SteamWorks multiplayer support, meaning it is much easier to create matches with friends and share custom content.

This is amazing…. I'm glad that the poster posted it or I never would have known… !
    excited asssss…

This is what got me into PC gaming and playing online when I was 12 15 odd years ago. I've been playing this online on voobly but will happily pay $20 to be able to plat multiplayer on steam with more people as long as they have some kind of game finder / lobby. HD is a bonus.

  • "Wood please"

  • Not worth it. Just wait for a 50% off Steam sale. Even then at $9.99 I would be reluctant, if you're patient enough for the end of year sales it'll be down to $4.99 I'm sure.

  • forgotten empires is a great free expansion too http://www.forgottenempires.net/

  • Brilliant game, glad its in HD. I still play it, one of the best

  • -2

Guys … give Age of Empires Online a go. It's the best AOE game out so far. Not much publicity about it so many don't know. It's a much more in depth game. Free-to-play with easy way to earn a premium civilization. Available on Steam also.

this isnt a deal its the same standard -10% that every game does for preorders on steam
while it is cool to see a aoe2hd coming out its not in any way a bargain
