This is one of the strangest bargains I've ever seen… but good work for posting.

      If this deal gets ozbargained

      (•-•)
      ( •-•)>⌐■-■
      (⌐■_■)

it will become a real turf war!

      YEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

    • +6

Free Grass at last on OzBargain!

  • +12

thanks to the poor sod who posted this deal. I hope lots of people vote this deal up to stop it being turfed from the front page.

    • +5

Well some ozbargainer went foraging through the deals and made hay while the sun shone; we're all so green with envy. I guess there's nothing for us to do but put ourselves out to pasture as topping this would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

    • +3

Indeed, you would be kicking yourself if this deal got pasture.

    • +1

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

  • +5

4 bits per person, 600x600mm total. Then find a spot in the backyard for it, and hope the dog doesn't piss on it.

  • I went to Lord's and did the tour there. They were selling old pieces of their turf in a glass case (advertised as a paperweight, looked like a snow globe) and I would have bought one straight away… If there wasn't a warning there that bringing things like turf into Australia (and New Zealand and South Africa) is illegal. Nice of them to remind us at least.

Any Adelaide folks keen to form a grass syndicate?
Perhaps set up a competing oval with all our free squares? No?

    • +10

How will we make an oval with squares though :O

      • +4

With a whole lot of squares.
The Earth is curved, and will take care of the rest. Science!

        • +6

          Curved you say?
Are you telling me The Flat Earth Society has had me fooled all this time?
          DAMN THEM!!!

      • Soccer pitch, considering hindmarsh will continue to be Adelaide's largest FIFA approved pitch after this oval is finished (refused to flatten the ground for the upgrade). Could make a rival stadium with more then 14k seats.

        • Lets hope an OzB deal for seats pops up real soon!!

  • one weekend that I happen to be out of town :(

    • Unless you happen to have a particular emotional attachment to Adelaide Oval though, you're not missing out on that much. The maximum of 4 pieces per person is the equivalent of one regular piece of turf that can be purchased at around $6 to $8.

  • When you think about it, tax-payers (in Adelaide or SA)
don't get their turf costfree, having paid $600 Million
for development of the Adelaide Oval, in recent years,
according to Adelaide's ABC 891 Local Radio

    • And it cost $800k to put the grass down!

FWIW, the type of turf that was on the oval (that's on offer) is Santa Anna - 20,000 sq m of the stuff!(http://www.earthmover.com.au/news/2010/june/burdett-leaves-a…)

It's a creeper lawn that spreads, so it can be cut into inch squares and used to start a new lawn. Add a bit of water and you could end up with a brand new lawn looking like Adelaide Oval for zip!

    That's the OzBargain way…

    • Santa Anna is a reasonably fine turf that is some what drought tolerant although not as good as Velvetine.

  • +1

Does it come with the roots?

    • One of the funniest and best bargains I've seen here…or anywhere!

  • +2

For a sec … I thought the DEPT OF FAIR TRADING created an OZB account :)

  • +2

If you put your piece of turf in a wooden frame you could try to sell it for $299.95 during the Channel Nine cricket telecast.

  • +1

Wow.. got there at 9am and the line was about 1km long. Took an hour to get to the front by which time they had rationed it to only 2 squares per person. There were still about 500+ people behind me

    • Totes forgot to go! Ah well, didn't need it anyway :-P

  • I didn't get to bed until 8am sunday morning. Completely missed this deal ahahaha
