    • Thanks added to the post

The advantage of sandy bridge it's relatively easy to upgrade them to a i7, I picked up a i7 of eBay for $130 plus 8 arctic silver paste now my budget i3 lappy is super fast

    • just buy laptop with i7 processor, its comes to almost close to price if you look hard for bargain, lenovo/samsung comes to mind when they were in-stock deals posted here on ozbargain for around 550

upgrading laptop processor is a pain for most of the people

      • +3

where did you see an i7 ultrabook for $550 i am very interested

        • upvote - yes, please tell us where. i am very tempted to buy this laptop at this price.

can anyone comment on quality of acers? i'm thinking dodgy like dell.

        • -1

I'm pretty sure that all laptops are dodgy in quality. Until standards are released similar to those for desktop computers i.e. ATX, they always will be.

Bought a toshiba c850 for the same price a couple of weeks ago - similar to those at http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Toshiba+c850+i3…
Would buy a toshiba over acer any day.

EDIT No SSD in mine sorry.

This is an ULTRABOOK your computer is a normal laptop. Completely different thing buddy

I have one of this device. I wont recommend this at all,
The hard drive is little noisy, keyboard button is stiff, FAN is noisy and ACER customer service is worst.
You complaint about the device, then you post the device to them, and the customer service will send you a report of PC live software and tell you everything runs fine and will send you the laptop without fixing it.

    • the power button on this unit is slightly visible when the laptop is shut. As I like to hook my laptop to an external monitor, keyboard and mouse, can you turn the laptop on while the screen is shut?

      • it is certainly visible and i have tried turning it on - FAIL

      • Wake on LAN maybe?

  • Looks like only available in Vic?

    • +1

anyone got any suggestions on how someone could get this price in another state. anyone reckon Officeworks will price match the price even though the customer is not in VIC

      • I'm hoping, going to try tomorrow and see how i go…

        • I'm located in Brisbane, so went into officeworks and showed them the MSY advert and they price matched and gave a further 5%. So i walked out the door with one for only $474. PLus at Officeworks, their one comes with a 2 year warranty, as opposed to the normal one year warranty. So better off going to officeworks as its cheaper and has a better warranty.

        • Do you still get the $79 cashback?

        • you apply the cash back through acer

        • Could you post a receipt?

        • yes, should get the $79 back, so net cost is $395. thats about the cheapest lightweight ultrabook with a decent size screen on the market.

        • +1

          no +? i am sad

        • Which officeworks did you goto? Any left?

        • I brought a couple today, here is a copy of the receipt, $395 after cashback is a bargain! http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s242/stylemasters/001_zps…

        • I went in to Werribee OW and was told that they do not price match clearance prices! Albeit, this was not listed as clearance (only limited stock!). I

Ended up picking one up from Mitcham MSY anyway… oh well, someone need to support them in consideration of their wider competitive support!!

          GO MSY!!!

        • +1

how about a + to show some support?

  • Wouldn't suggest it I brought one of the earlier acer s3 ultra books close to a year ago, all ive suffered is wifi connection issues and also battery draining. Contacting acer is the worst experiencing ending up going back to Harvey Norman a number of time to repair in warranty period… Stay away I say ;-/

  • North Melbourne MSY - no stock (happened to be walking past when they opened this morning)

  • Personally, I've been in the IT industry for many years. I've supplied many 1000's of various brand (incl. DEC/Compaq/HP, IBM/Lenovo, Acer) PC's, Notebooks and servers apart from other stuff.
In my experience having supplied 100's of Acer servers and 1000's of n/b, PC's to EDU, they used to be good and had great CS (reseller depenedent) until mid-late 2000's, then they dropped the ball and have been shite ever since.

In my mistaken loyalty to the brand we bought a number of their slim desktops for home use (these were their commercial models) and had nothing but trouble. Their repairs were at best shoddy and it took the threat of having the ACCC breathing down their neck to get a refund despite our substantial connections in the company.

Would I buy Acer notebooks again - I did repeatedly in the past few years and they have been great.
Would I buy any ULTRABOOK - not really as due to design constraints they are almost a throwaway if something needs fixing.

We bought some small HP n/b for home & travel last year. In short couldn't be happier with them.
HP quality stills shows even at lower pricepoints.

In business we have had Dell and they have their moments, BUT
A friend who works in IT Dept. of a major customer of theirs bought a commercial grade notebook for his home use just over a year ago - nothing but shite. Screen hinges broke off, other major issues all just a month out of warranty and Dell told him to piss off in no uncertain terms. Forget about them understanding their statutory warranty obligations in Oz. Like most retailers and manufacturers.

It took ACCC taking MSY to court a few times for them to get it, others like Umart etc. still don't get it and refuse to listen (personally just had that again with Umart - may as well ask for gold).

    • I took a dell xps m1330 back for a full refund after 3rd fail at 3.5 years when it had a 3 year warranty and got back 3068 bucks. Tell them about fair trading and they will walk the talk

  • Very happy with the efficiency of the ACER Cashback Team. Send my claim from Melbourne on Monday and I have received an email today to confirm my claim has now been processed. Just need to wait the 6 weeks for the card to come in the mail. Well done ACER.

  • if anyone missed out, i noticed at myer today, they dropped the price from $795 when I was looking two weeks ago to $556. Then on top of that, they are giving 10% of clearance computers, which makes the price about $500.
THen a further $79 cash back makes it about $421.
