  • whats the dimension of the jambox? looks small

    valued at $250???

    • -1

      that's what HE said

    • +2

      https://jawbone.com/speakers/jambox/overview
They are small, but I hear they are powerful.
The RRP is $250, JB has them for $229, but realistically you can get them cheaper. A quick search of OzBargain shows that they were once $140 with shipping from Amazon. Still a dirt cheap bargain if you drink vodka and are after a bluetooth speaker.

They are small, but I hear they are powerful.

        That's what SHE said

      • The Jambox is a very good, portable bluetooth speaker. It won't match a dedicated speaker system, but it's something small you can bring to parties and pop on a table and anyone can play their music. It's surprisingly loud, clarity is 'okay' and it also allows voice calls. I paid ~$120 for one and use it all the time, just moving it between rooms so I don't need headphones.

My biggest concern is that the speaker will have some hideous promotion logo on it.

        • +8

I was thinking I don't really need a free Jambox, since I have a Logitech UE Boombox. Then I read your post and thought of it as buy a Jambox and get 2 free bottles of Vodka, and somehow it made a difference. Bought.

And yes, I'm an Ozbargain idiot with 6 pairs of headphones on my table.

        • I pretty much paid this much alone for my Jambox. So yes, this promotion = two large free bottles of vodka.

          winning

  • whats recommended to drink with vodka?

    • +1

Cranberry juice is the go I guess.

      • Ginger beer & (real) lime juice. Give it a chance! Mad refreshing. Otherwise cranberry juice. Sweetness varies a lot between brands. Schweppes lemonade all day long.

I've drank vodka since I could. Never had a bad experience… But I've never drank more than one drink from each cheap-crap brand, when I was starting out. Why drink petrol, just cos its cheaper?!

Absolut, stoli, and others in that range… great value can be found for the normal drinker. Grey goose, Belvedere etc are amazing, but I dont think it's worth the large price hike.

Min I expect from a vodka… 60ml in a pint glass, one can of lemonade, top with ice… Can slightly taste the vodka.

I normally go for lightly flavoured soda, like Waterfords.

        • Hey don't knock it till you try it :P

I got them moves like Jager ….

      • MoVo is where it's at these days

    • +4

      definitely with friends

Orange juice is pretty popular (AKA a "screwdriver").

Bickford's lime cordial's pretty good, too. I had a friend who used to drink "vodka lemon limes", but I can't remember if it was Bickford's and lemonade, or Bickford's, lemon juice and soda water.

      • +8

I enjoy a good Vodka, Lemon, Lime & Bitters.

        1 part Bickford's lime cordial
        2 parts Vodka
A couple of splashes of Angostura Bitters
        5 parts lemonade

    • +1

      Coke

    • +4

      Black Russian.

      Two parts vodka.
      One part coffee liqueur.
      Serve on ice.

Unbelievably delicious and packs a punch :hick:

      • +1

Or the old " White Russian ", as above with a dash of milk.
Some do add a dash of coke to the Black Russian, but above is traditional.

        • Or the Dirty Black Russian is one I commonly consume:

          Tall glass
          A few iceblocks
3-10 'glugs' Russian Standard vodka, (depending on what you are planning to do with your afternoon/life)
          Splash of Kahlua
          Top with Coke

        • wow, a bargain talk expanded to vodka recipe/magic formula discussion , no wonder I love Oz Bargain , keep going gusy ,cheers

    • +1

      a glass.

tends to spill out of your hands the more you drink.

    • +1

      Vodka + Galliano + OJ = Harvey Wallbanger! :D

    • It's recommended to eat a lot with vodka, not to drink.

    • 1) Boil Kettle
      2) Place 1 Table Spoon of Honey into a mug
      3) Pour in 100ml of Boiling Water, Stir until dissolved
      4) In a small drinking glass, place in three ice cubes. Pour dissolved honey water on top.
      5) Pour in 30ml of Vodka.
      6) Pour in 100ml of Coke.
      7) Cut 1/8th of a lime, squeeze lightly and place in.
      8) Add two Mint leaves.

      Enjoy.

Been Looking at some reviews, Doesn't seem like a GREAT speaker but you could probably re sell it make back the cost of the vodka :D

  • +1

This is an awesome deal. I paid $300 for my jambox a few years back and I absolutely adore it.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't automatically turn off when not in use (just goes into low power consumption). I might use it for a few minutes on full charge at the start of the day, forget to turn it off, then it wakes me up in the middle of the night telling me to recharge it. Other than that, I love this thing.

Am considering this, except I don't drink. Am trying to figure out if I should try and make back $20 by selling the bottles on eBay or keep them around and batter my food in vodka.

    • +2

Last time I checked you can't sell liquor on eBay without a license?

      • Lol I didn't realize that. Ok, I'll probably keep a bottle around for culinary use and give the other as a present.

        • +3

i don't know of many non drink vodka uses.

        • Give one to Victor ;)

        • +1

I make my own vanilla extract. I buy bulk vanilla beans on ebay, split and infuse in a bottle (I use cheap) vodka. Six months later - syrupy premium vanilla.

        • Sounds like a good idea but dont know if Ill be able to wait 6 months for the initial batch. So you continually make them to keep the supply up? Any tips on making it?

    • +2

Can't sell booze on eBay. Surely you can offload cheap booze to one of your mates?

      • Haha yeah I just realized. Will be going down that path now.

    • Great gift for housewarmings/parties/people you don't know that well :)

  • +1

Last time there was a absolut vodka bargain it turned out to be a 4-5 month delay on the bargain!

    • +2

Yeah, the American Tourista carry on bags took ages to arrive, but they eventually did. I'm still yet to use mine, but I will be in May.

      • Do you think this is worth it? Is say a Logitech bluetooth speaker better than this?

      • Love my American Tourista carry on bag, use it a LOT! The Absolut sticker came off really easily, did that within 5 minutes of arriving. Mine arrived really fast - within a couple of weeks, but I got in early.

  • +1

What sort of device would use this jambox? ipod? ipad? The suitcaeses said "Absolut" on them. Does anyone know if this would?

    • +2

ooh, could you show me a photo? i never jumped on that bargain (coz i wasn't 18 then), but seeing Absolut on it might allow me to feel less regret :)

      • Any bluetooth device. So yeah, an iPod, iPad, laptop, smartphone, etc. I don't think these products are branded, but they might be. The suitcases didn't say they were from memory, but they did come with an Absolut sticker on them (that was very easy to remove).

  • +3

    What an Absolut bargain!

  • I dont like the wording here..

    What is the offer?
If you purchase two 700mL bottles of ABSOLUT Vodka (one must be a flavour) from a participating retailer during the promotional period

—you have the chance to receive—

a Jambox Portable Speaker valued at $250 for the cost of $50 consumer contribution (includes postage and handling.)

    • +1

it simply means until the allocation has run out

$50 contribution is a bit rich though, only had to pay $19.95 P&H for the Jameson Dartboard…

      • How does the cost of a dart board compare to the cost of a Jambox?

    • I'd assume the chance is if there is any claims remaining.

  • lots of good promotions lately with alcohol, very happy with my Jameson dartboard and got a leather couch on the way too for less than $100 in purchases.

This seems like a pretty good speaker too

    • where did you get this couch??

      • that was a competition through BWS.
First Choice had the Dartboard promo, BWS the couch. But it was a competition rather than a claim..

seems not many people entered though as a friend of mine won the couch too :)

        • well if you have time I reccomend doing a last minute entry, couch looks really well made and should be a bit of a collectors item since only 28 have been made

Price match Vintage cellars 2 for $70 on flavored bottles ;)

    http://boozle.com.au/#!/search/q/Absolut+Vodka/s/Camperdown+…

    Total price $120, save $2!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Pity that you need to purchase from Dan Murphy's or bws to get the jambox

    • Good find! It's actually a $4 saving :D

      • +3

I showed the Vintage Cellars website to the staff at Dan Murphy's, and they beat the price. They gave me two for $68. - $6 saving :)

  • Can anyone recommend any flavours?

    • +1

Vanilla. Tastes amazing with creaming soda, especially if you can get the authentic brown creaming soda.

      • +2

        IMO:

        Best: Vanilla and pear

        Average: Coffee, peach and raspberry

        Worst: Citrus, tea and currant

        • Interesting, I actually really like the Citrus icy cold from the freezer, neat! :)

      • Try Vanilla and Vanilla Coke. OVERLOAD but sooo nice!

    • absolut peppar

vodka is traditionally drunk with pepper and stored in the freezer

      • I've never seen Peppar in the shops. I had to order it online.

Side note: That was Absolut's first flavour. Bloody Marys were popular the time, and it saved the bartender a few steps by having the flavour already in the vodka.

  • They're pretty decent. I was planning to get this in the US as I needed something small and portable… but ended up getting a Bose 2.0 set just to keep on my desk.

  • +1

If you purchase on dan murphy online, does dan provide a receipt online or via email with enough info to claim the jambox?

    Anyone tried it?

    Thanks.

    • I doubt the receipt would have a 'store id' and 'transaction number' on it. Maybe call them and ask?

    • I purchased from Dan Murphy's last night and just got approved this morning for my jambox.

Rang up DM to price match Wine Cellars $70 for 2 bottles, and then they emailed me the order note and tax invoice shortly after. Uploaded a screengrab of my receipt in the claiming process, which was sufficient for them despite not having a store code. Thanks OP for the heads up!

      • did you buy online for delivery to your home, or pick up in store?

If I can ring them and get them to match (beat?) 2 for $70 then I will do it that way. Can only get to DM on the weekend.

  • +2

awesome deal! just claimed mine and received my transaction approved email for the $50 to absolut. I hope these speakers live up to the hype!

    • +1

I can confirm they're good, a mate has one that I played around with for a day. 10-hour battery life, durable, compact and very good sound for the size. Good range to bluetooth devices as well.

      • +1

awesome, good to hear! ive been watching great youtube reviews of it too so now im just going to be waiting at my postbox for it to arrive

    • I have the Big JamBox (older brother), they retail for about $300 and are worth every cent in my book. Use them pretty much daily. Sure these wont disappoint.

  • any free shipping voucher to use on dan murphy online so I can buy and claim now? otherwise will have to wait until weekend dan murphys

  • has anyone gone through the process online yet? Does it instantly confirm if your claim will be accepted?

    • ive gone through the process and have been approved. it wasnt instant but there is still 716 more to be claimed so i'm assuming your claim will go through ok

      • I've gone through process as well, credit card charged,
        said approved

but don't think it's the claim confirmation email, it's more the credit card charged email

the claim email should have a claim number which this email doesn't
that will come after the uploaded receipted is verified

        • i got my confirmation email today

  • Great speaker, but even better Vodka recipes….

  • anyone know if you could get two flavoured one, or must it be one flavoured and one standard one?

    • I completed it with 2 flavoured ones, Vanilia/Raspberri. Says 'one must be flavoured' doesn't mention the other so you'll be fine.

    • +1

      You can get two flavoured

  • -7

$50 for postage is a rip off. Was going to get this deal but no deal!

    • +2

It's not $50 postage. It's $50 for the speaker, and that includes postage. ie, they're saying buy two bottles and get the speaker for $50. Not buy two bottles and get the speaker for free + $50 shipping.

As per the original post, the total cost is $124. Regardless of how that's allocated to vodka, speakers and postage; you're getting two 700ml bottles of vodka (in store) and a Jambox (delivered) for $124.

      • -4

        This is not correct.

They are saying buy 2 bottles and if you manage to claim your FREE GIFT in time and before they all run out then you need to pay to them $50 for postage and handling to receive your FREE GIFT.

You need to trust them that they are actually giving away 740 Jamboxes.

        • +2

          The FAQ states:
          "What is the offer?
If you purchase two 700mL bottles of ABSOLUT Vodka (one must be a flavour) from a participating retailer during the promotional period you have the chance to receive a Jambox Portable Speaker valued at $250 for the cost of $50 consumer contribution (includes postage and handling.)"

T&Cs state gift, but that is likely for legal reasons. They do not claim that postage and handling is $50. They are saying the "consumer contribution" includes P&H. I can't see anywhere where they refer to the free gift. You are paying $50 toward the cost of the speaker and P&H.

Why do we need to trust that they are giving away 740? How is that relevant? When they run out, you won't be able to claim, and therefore you won't be charged $50.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. They could be charging $121 for postage and handling and $1 each for the bottles and Jambox. The total remains the same. It's $124 for 2 bottles of vodka and a Jambox. That is what you should base you decision on. Not what % of that total cost is for P&H. If the deal isn't for you, fine; get on with your life.

  • Simple. The Super Dew:

    1-2 shots of either: Vanilia/Beri Acai/Peach ABSOLUT
Fill her up with Mountain Dew.

    ECSTACY!

Or try to make your own INFUSIONS with a bottle of plain ABSOLUT: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nnI9plnnGBs/URdo-FbDndI/AAAAAAAAJu…

Pour out a little vodka into a glass (drink it ;P) and throw in a heap of the same colour skittles into the bottle. Leave for 2 weeks: Awesome flavoured ABSOLUT! :)

    • The "Super Dew", pronounced "Super Jew".

  • +1

Woo ran on down to BWS got the bottles and just claimed

Great thing about vodka is that it never goes off and is always useful, I do love my pene ala vodka. ;)

  • +1

I don't even like vodka that much, but I felt compelled to collect all the flavours of Absolut. I have 19 bottles now.

  • You reckon whoever wrote the terms and condition is over thinking it a bit?

"19. If this offer is not capable of running as planned for any reason, including but not limited to war, terrorism, "

Also is there any limited per person or household (couldnt find anything) as i was thinking of getting 2 jamboxs and a hell of a hang over this weekend.

    • A maximum of one redemption can be made per household for the duration of the promotion.
