UPDATED (Full 800 SKU Included See Update 2) Deal Extreme - 50% off Hundreds of Items!

38215
AUDirect0515

Deal Extreme offering 50% off a huge selection of items!!

There's Quad Core Tablets (under $100)
http://dx.com/p/freelander-pd30-quad-core-8-ips-capacitive-s…

Exynos 7" tab for $88
http://dx.com/p/freelander-pd10hd-7-ips-exynos4412-quad-core…

THL W8 Quad Core phone ($116)
http://dx.com/p/thl-w8-android-4-1-quad-core-bar-phone-w-5-0…

Update:

http://dx.com/mayhalfprice?utm_source=dx&utm_medium=cdn&utm_…

According to this, they will be rotating the deals throughout the day (800 SKUs with total quantity of 40,000) to cover a bunch of other products too. Check back whenever you can to see if theres anything new!

Update 2:

http://dx.com/mayhalfprice/Default/ShoppingList

They have pushed out another list of more items! It does verify the theory that the initial page was for DX AU deliveries whilst this is the International 50% off section. Please be aware that there will be longer delivery times for this since it needs to be shipped directly from China as opposed to the DX AU (which apparently has warehouse in Perth).

Update 3:
Offer is pretty much officially "Ozbargained" with the only remaining stock to be either very specialist products (Spare battery for product x), Seasonal products (Christmas), or stuff that not many people want. The only thing I am hoping for is that they can fulfill all orders so everyone is happy.

DX has subtly stated however, (Broken English) "If the customers who participate in this activity are more than expected which results in lack of product supply, we have to process refund for the oversold items, please kindly understand." which may account for some people's Paypals reported refunded against.

Update 4:

Have to apologise in advance to anyone who doesnt get the stock for this deal. Despite being the OP and putting the order through before others, I have now received a cancellation against my two orders (W8 and PD10). It is seemingly like a lottery to get stock. Very very disappointed. :(

Update 5:

After a disappointing weekend, DX has now come back to affected customers with a voucher that's worth 15% of the original total order. So, if your order was $200, then they will give you back $30 worth as a rebate in compensation to be used in DX. Apparently the stock is still available - but not it has changed to a different SKU but they are offering 15% off the original price. This is pretty beneficial if your original order was expensive (and hence you can get back a higher rebate value) - but typically most would only have done a $200 order with $30 rebated.

The new link is here: http://dx.com/l/au-direct/2013-02/special-items.aspx

As you can see, the deal is nowhere near as good as before. However, it is up to you as an individual to see if it is still good value enough to continue making the purchases.

it got very positive reviews in the forums. Dont know what you've been reading

Yeah buy this phone if you want a brain tumor. (I fixed it for you)

  • thanks =)

  • http://dx.com/p/jr-5050-waterproof-72w-4500lm-300-5050-smd-l… - anyone know if this works with an Ardunio and how many leds you get? - I'm looking to create an ambilight clone

    • +1

      Looks like 60led per meter.
It's a 'dumb' strip, no LEDs are addressable, only one colour for the whole thing

Yes I works with arduino, raspberry pi too, I just bought two

Make sure you find a decent power supply for it

    • yep, bleugh is right, there are 300 leds, 5050 is the size of the SMD package.

      I also just bought 2

Lots of stuff out of stock already, will be interesting to see how much dx honours on these deals

  • Hey guys where is a good power converter EU to AUD to buy for cheap that THL W8 Android 4.1 phone?

  • +2

I still can't decide whether to buy the phone! The best you could get in that price range? I'm yet to get my first smart phone so I have no idea! XDA forum just seems to go over all the problems, but not talk about how great the phone is?

    • +2

lol im the same, the only thing that is putting me off is the captive screen no ips

    • +9

I don't recommend it if you are new to smartphones. China phones are for people who have time on their hands and for those who know how to read long complicated instructions, flash their own custom ROMS and root the Android OS.

Buy a branded phone if you want something that works out of the box. If you would like to start dabbling in phone tweaking and modification then I guess this is a good start, since you have nothing to lose as China phones lack warranty…

      • Excellent advice. Just reading the number of fixes people had to do on the THL W8 phone made my head spin.

  • +3

For the price, I don't think you can beat it :)
    I bought 2 :P

  • Thanx op :)

The age of copying iphones and ipads are already past. Now they're mostly copying Samsung…and pushing their own weirdly named brands.

Are there anyways to pay it in AUD??? My bank charged me $121.41 in total with extra 3.5% transaction fee

    • +1

Same thing happened to me… apparently on their site shows AUD, but when process to payment it becomes USD…:(

      • +4

Ah that's unfortunate. Should get a 28 degrees card, just to prepare for these impulse international purchases.

    • At the top, next to where it says "Free shipping to AU" is the currency selecting menu "AU$"

      • It will change back to USD even I chose AUD as my currency in selecting menu

    • pay via paypal and use your credit card so wont get charge.

    • rechargeable ?

      • it has an input so i'd say yes :)

Any thoughts on a good choice for a tablet noob?
I have literally no idea, but at that price it seems sensible to buy one as it's something that's been in the back of my mind for a while.

  • Anything with an Exynos4412 would be a pretty safe bet. It's the same processor used in the Galaxy S3.

    http://dx.com/p/freelander-pd10hd-7-ips-exynos4412-quad-core…

    • 7" has the quad core with 1280x800 IPS LCD. Only downside is the measley 2800maH battery. Can any tablet experts advise if it's battery life will be very short as a result? The other 1024x768 8" and 9.7" Freelander units have a 5000maH. The 9.7" with the retina screen having a 8000maH battery.

      • hey which 9.7 inch tablet is better?

HD one has higher res display, bigger battery.
Non-HD has in my opinion better CPU, and bluetooth.

        • How much better is the CPU+GPU on the Non-Retina tablet? is there a big difference? screen & battery are a + for me.. bluetooth dont really care about.

        • +1

I think the SGX544MP2 GPU on the HD is faster for 3D than the Mali400 of the nonHD.
Both CPU's are decent performers for the most part, though the A31 is usually clocked lower than the Exynos. I've also heard the A31 has reliability issues, however don't know if thats still the case. Also, A31 is Cortex A7, Exynos is A9.

If you want a nice looking display and dont need bluetooth the HD would probably be the way to go.

        • okay ive placed the order. went with the PD80-HD.
thanks for helping out … spent hours researching, man was it hard deciding:/

you summed it up nicely, for anyone else thinking of buying it. Nicer display, no bluetooth.. good gpu. comparable cpu

performs pretty well for games & movies which is pretty much the only things beside web browsing i plan on using it for.

          …different tablets but same CPU/GPU

        • The code numbers for the processors ends with "MP2" which indicates 2 cores of the SGX544 processor. The Exynos found in the Freelander PD10HD is Exynos4412 which according to wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exynos_%28system_on_chip%29 ) is a Mali 400-MP4 or quad core. The Mali Quads are faster than the SGX duals.

        • thanks. for me, the screen resolution is on the top of the priority list.

just wonder if they have 7" tab with high resolution like retina screen?

        • are you sure? here it says it has 8 cores?
          http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/41760-official-specification…

and in the video i posted above.. the reviewer says the gpu in the Allwinner A31 is better than the Mali 400?

and in the specs page of the tablet he showed it says 8 cores and its the exact same cpu/gpu as the Freelander PD80-HD?

Man so tempting but I will hold back and wait for N7.7 at the Google IO this week. Only 2 months away from shipping, I can totally be patient

  • Bought the w8 phone and the power bank!

    • Phone comes with 2x2000mAH batteries. So can pop the back cover and swap a pre-charged battery as an alternative to the power bank.

      • Cool. Wanted a power bank anyway though!

        • +4

Did you buy some exclamation marks too!

        • +1

Yeah I got some of those too! Shame there wasn't a sale on question marks though!

    • Got the same. Thanks, OP. Hopefully they can deliver the goods and not cancel if they get a lot of orders.

  • Damnn.. I just realized I bought my phone in my email address with typo error, can't receive email confirmation and can't activate my account, What should I do now?

  • Eran E80 8.0" seems pretty good for $60 with quad core

    • No IPS screen on this one. The 8" Freelander PD30 has a IPS screen, but costs another $20.

      • IPS screen definitely worth it, look much nicer.

    • No IPS, but looks like top value. Bought one at my kids insistence ($60 is affordable with pocket money these days!).

  • 7" android tablet $34.45 Cheap AS!

Fastcardtech has more detailed specs on the quad-core Freelander tablets. They list the 7" PD10 as the most "hot sell", ie: most popular from the lot . http://www.fastcardtech.com/category-283-b806-min0-max0-attr… .

The PD10 appears to be the same as a Hyundai T7 but with a smaller 2800maH (rather than 3300maH) battery. T7 is available for $147-shipped from US, though the PD10 betters it with 2GB/16GB ROM, similar to the just release T7s: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/OEM-T7-Android-4-0-Quad-Core-… but no 5MP camera and the aforementioned smaller battery.

PD10 also gets the 1280x800 IPS LCD, resolution as found on the Nexus 7, plus bluetooth. All other Freelander units except the 9.7" retina PD80HD equipped with 1024x768 LCDs. Only other unit with bluetooth is the 9.7" PD80s.

EDIT: Seems PD10HD specs are a bit all over the place. This page http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Freelander-7-PD10-quad-core-E… effectively describing it as a Hyundai T7s with the 3300maH battery and 5MP camera.

    Whirlpool Hyundai T7 page: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2060396

  • What type of screen is on that phone? Is it a cheapo TN screen that turns dark when viewed at an angle? I assume it would have to be if it's this cheap?

    • I think someone said it was IPS, not sure if that was reliable

  • +1

    FREELANDER PD30 or FREELANDER PD10HD?

Just bought the phone and wanna get an extra cheap tablet… $8 difference

    FREELANDER PD30: 8 Inch, 4200 mAh
FREELANDER PD10HD: Better Samsung Exynos CPU + Mali 400 GPU, Bluetooth, Higher Res 1280 x 800

But I dont like FREELANDER PD10HD with an enlargement Samsung Galaxy outlook… Too Fake

and also, may I know what's the difference between Ditter V12 Google TV Player and previous deal U2 Mini Android 4.0 Media Player?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89903

  • I thought the deal starts at Discount starting at 2:00 May 15th, 2013! (UTC) .which is another 5 hrs away?

    • Yeah me too, what's all these 'deals' people are buying? I cant find one. Sale starts in 5 hours

        • is that independant to what starts at 2:00 May 15th, 2013! (UTC)?

        • The OP link is to a bunch of tablets, phones, torches and tools. The bigger sale will presumably include other items too.
The subset can be purchased now with the code.

  • Wow, the freelander pd10hd is basically the same as the Hyundai t7s here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/99821
On the slatedroid forums people are flashing the Hyundai firmware without any problems.
This is a bargain for sure, I wish I didn't buy the T7S and waited for this…

    • Can't be 100% sure of that. DX's specs say it does get the T7s' 2GB/16GB but not the 5MP rear camera (2MP instead) or 3300maH battery (2800mAH instead). Could it just be the OEM vendor is downspeccing the clone version so as o give the Hyundai T7s a greater public profile?

      • Yeah, there might be minor differences, but you will get the same Exynos4+Mali400 performance for such a good price. The 5MP camera on the T7S is very poor anyway (if you feel like taking photos with a tablet), so I wouldn't be concerned about that spec. The battery life on the T7S is the most disappointing aspect so this would be the only concern, but I wouldn't be surprised if they both actually have the same battery anyway.

  • What's recommended for a good 10ish inch quad core tablet?

    • +1

i went with this one… retina display.. good cpu/gpu, aluminum build? but no bluetooth.
      http://dx.com/p/freelander-pd80-hd-9-7-capacitive-screen-and…

      read bamzero's comments above.

      • +2

Awesome. Got one too. Thought about it and didn't think I would be using bt as much as benefiting from a higher res screen.

      • +1

Didn't need a tablet but got one. Couldn't resist so I bought the same one as you hehe :)

  • +2

Oh well, got the PD10HD in addition to my earlier order of the THL W8 and the powerbank. Can't resist, LOL.

  • I'm guessing the Freelander PD80HD on DX (http://tinyurl.com/chl6ez7) is the same as the PD80 Wise (http://tinyurl.com/ch78t6g). Or is there a PD80HD vs PD80 Wise ? The specs seems exactly the same except the 4K resolution screen.

EDIT - If this is indeed the same tablet except for the screen here are some forums for custom ROMs (I've never owned an Android device so this is all new to me)

    http://www.pandawillforum.com/showthread.php?17416-Latest-RO…

Apparently there are 2 ROMs - Nextway F9X and CM10.

Here is the link for the CM 10 - http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/65290-rom-cyanogenmod-10-for…

There seems to be USB bluetooth support.

    • theyre the same. just different names.. the PD80 Wise has the exact same resolution as the PD80HD
      - 2048x1536.

the 4K resolution it advertises is just for video playback… which the PD80HD can also do.

  • +2

Grabbed two of the HD Tablets and a Ditter v12, couldn't help myself. This is one of the best deals on OZB this year.

  • Hi guys, Im still considering the ThL W8 phone; im gonna use TPG mobile network, can i use the 3G of TPG if i get this phone. Honestly, im pretty dumb at these mobile network stuff.

    • +1

so long as the frequency is 900 and 2100 you'll have no issues. check the specs

      • 2100mhz is the metro 3g band, if you want 3g in regional areas it must support 900mhz, otherwise it slows down to 2g speeds.

        • Oh so it will be fine in Metro area's?

I'm happy for calls to still working regional.

  • It looks to me like the AU DIRECT sale (which includes the power bank etc) is different from the 50% off sale.

The AU DIRECT sale is good - but the 50% off sale should be even better (ie. a lot more items)

The 50% off sale starts at 2am UTC on 15 MAY. It is only 10:25pm on 14 MAY in UTC time as I post….

    • No need to wait if wanting the tablets or THL W8 phone. They are already 50% off with the "AUDirect0515" coupon.

    • isnt this sale and the 50% of sale the same in the sense that the 50% off sale will also include these items? Im really confused whats going on. which sale is what

      • No

        They are two different sales.

Both offer 50% off selected items

One is already on, the other yet to start…

        • so different items then? I assumed everything in the Au direct stocking would be 50% off initially after 2am UTC on 15 MAY

        • Lots more items start at 2am UTC

  • Okay people, so is the Ditter v12 worth getting?
