I wonder if we can choose to have it activated on the longlife option with a phone, instead of having it as 3G internet.

User "eug" posted this in the Nokia bargian thread
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/100622

"I bought a $10 ipad sim pack from Australia Post and used Telstra's live chat service to activate it as a normal SIM (you can't do this yourself when activating it on the web). I had to explain to them I wanted to use the SIM in a phone. Once the person understood, it was easy.

It took a day for the SIM to appear in my existing Telstra account web portal. However .. the $30 credit wasn't there. I started another live chat and explained it to them. They didn't understand at first (kept asking me to check my receipt for a code), but finally said the credit has to be added manually as it is meant to be an ipad sim."

I've also had success doing this.
problem is running out of android apps to buy.

  • In true Ozbargain fashion, I'm so pissed I paid twice as much by jumping onto an earlier bargain. I bought one from the post office yesterday arvo. Into the stockpile that goes

Hold up unless you live in Melbourne or plan on buying in bulk (which would be weird since they all would expire in 30 days) then postage is a minimum of $10 to Sydney, NSW (I would say that is the flat rate nationwide or for non-metro areas in states further away it would cost even more)

Which POs have them in Sydney still? I would be interesting in getting a couple at $10 as I have none for my 'new' iPad + 3G.

EDIT: I was also pretty annoyed I went through the rigmarole of providing email, phone, name, address just to get a postage quote for a $5 item that I would not pay postage for.

      • Isn't it free postage?

I got mine from St Leonards post office. Note that the packaging was smaller and a slightly different design, I didn't recognise it at first.

  • Can we still use as google play credit?

I am confused, preactivated means if delivery takes 2 weeks you will have only 16 days left to use the data by the time you receive it?

  • Is this just what I need for my new Ipad MINI wifi that does not have a sim? If so, I could buy it from the PO.

    • What? Do you want to buy a sim for ipad wifi only? Where are you gonna stick it in?

      • Like I do - in a Wi-Fi modem bought cheap from an OB deal. (Honest Telstra it's an IPad.)

  • sharp and bruce, it does have a sim slot, but that's interesting re getting a wifi modem from TLS. What s doe one of those cost? So, this particula deal is not useful for me ?

    • Got a Vodafone Pocket WiFi2 including SIM with 30d 3GB for $15.80 at BigW before Chrissie. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89216
Unlocked for free with Vodafone & been using $10 Telstra Starter Packs, set up as 'iPad' for 3GB every 30d. Starter Packs are more flexible - as you can transfer remaining credit to next $10 Starter Pack, when on special. eg

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/97240 etc

      • how do you transfer the remaining credit to the next starter pack?

        • +1

          By creditme2u

Read from bottom half of the page http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/rech…

        • I chatted online with Telstra & got them to transfer all my remaining credit ($18.90 of $30 Starter Pack bought at PO for $10) without any fee to next SIM ($10 free Bonus credit SIM with Coles Huawei Y201 deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/99953 - which extended that 15 day free SIM to 31 days & $29.90 total credit!). Will then transfer remaining full credit (not Bonus) to next SIM to add credit & extend time (if added near expiry date), and so on accumulating credit for later use. You can use the credit on the Starter Packs to buy apps.

Usually a limit of $10/day transfer & 25c fee per transfer.
Can also use the Facebook app, as long as both accounts are registered on app.

Handy Tip: "If you want to extend the pre-paid credit account balance expiry for your Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband service, you can try to do so by regularly performing a CreditMe2U transfer immediately prior to credit expiry, and pushing back the expiry date by 13 or 14 days at each turn" (same with phone service)

        • Bargains on top of Bargains!
$18.90 transfer was somehow counted as a $20 recharge, so now get 15c calls with no flagfall & 10c/MB data on Simplicity plan!!

        • nice - i assume that's with y201 not pocket wifi :)

        • Data only with Pocket WiFi2 (only VOIP calls) :)
But an example of why Starter Packs are better than iPad Packs. And if I had activated the next Starter Pack, I could have transferred it on there, to use as additional credit (extra 1.9GB data if in the Pocket WiFi2 on Ipad setup).

Just realised I can now use the 1.9GB data on the Free SIM as it is set up as Simplicity plan (10c/MB) - in the Y201 or Pocket WiFi2. Happy days!

[iDroid have the $10/14d Telstra SIMs 2 for $2 delivered!]

Had the Starter Pack SIM ($30 Credit for $10 deal) in the Pocket WiFi2 (setup as an 'iPad' with 3GB data). It was expiring, so got Telstra to transfer remaining credit to the free SIM that came with & in the Y201, so can make 15c/min Simplicity Plan calls on it.
If I had transferred via credit2u, would have transferred $10+8 (only whole dollars transferred & 2 25c fees) over 2 days, and would not have been seen as a recharge (just was lucky with Telstra person), and no cheap calls for a month.

        • how about bonus credit? cannot be transferred?
I got $10 bonus credit when activating MF60 mifi

        • +1

Can't transfer bonus credit - only use for standard calls & text (within 14days)
