Yeah it's MSY but this is a great deal assuming you can get your hands on one for those gaming up to 1080p.

  • the original price was $205 yet the 2gb is the same price at other stores

I bought my Sapphire 7850 2GB OC for $275 March last year the first week it's available. So this is almost half price, cheap.

  • +4

Nice price but wish this was the 2GB version. They seem to be about the same price normally

Here is the 2GB for only $4 more than the normal 1GB version
    http://msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=8718

    • The 1GB usually starts around $165 on staticice. The 2GB is definitely better at more than 1080p, but is at least $187.

This is a great deal for low budgets.

  • +9

Looks good but should have 3 GB of RAM.

    Hides

    • +5

7850 is not a top end card unlike 7950 and 7970, so more than 2GB ram won't matter since the card will struggle running anything above 1080p.

I'm using 7850 now with i5 2400 & 8GB ram and it can't handle metro last light on all max, had to turn down AA and some other settings. This way I can squeeze 25-30 FPS average.

      • Thanks :D

      • +2

Agreed, but just for the non-technical: while 7850 is "not a top end card", it's still a nice card. It will slaughter console performance and play every new gaming beautifully for some time. It is a faster card than is going into the PS4 and XBOX one (which is apparently more like a modified 7790).

  • +2

    i am intrigued by this..
    does 2gb mean much??

    http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2012/11/05/msi-rad…

if you game at 1900 then not much by the looks of things.
if you game at more than that.. you probably not into buying a $150 vid card anyways!

    • Yes, buy this card if your budget is maxed out around $150. Otherwise go for the 2GB, which can be had for $190+ or so on staticice, or the 7870 for about 220+.

A great deal for the low budget. The other cards under 150 can't touch a 1GB 7850.

      • I got a used 2GB 7850(OC'd gigabyte version) for 120$, great card for a good price.

  • +2

Wonder if the HD still come with the Never Settled 2 free games..

3 games - Far Cry 3, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider
Damn good buy at this price.

      • +1

Is MSY giving the codes for this ? Last time I popped in to ask, they said they weren't but that was a few weeks ago.

Ordered one for pickup anyway at that price.

        • I believe that promotion isn't running for products bought in Australia, only EU and US.

        • Nope it's definitely here in Australia, but not all stores have it, and you usually have to ask, and it seems to be Bioshock Infinite and Crysis 3, regardless of which card you buy.

      • +1

In Australia you get Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite with this card. Perhaps a moderator could update the title to include this as it is a big plus for the low price.

You can definitely order online now and may also be able to buy in store depending on how strict they are about the date. I think they tend not to be.

        • Are they pure digital downloads, or are you given Steam/Origin/other codes for the game?

        • +2

If the store knows what they're doing they give you an AMD code on a card when you buy the card. Go to the AMD site and enter that code and your email then AMD send you steam codes for the games.

It looks like as of Mat 15 you're supposed to get Far Cry Blood Dragon too! The store I checked with isn't up to date.

          http://sites.amd.com/us/promo/never-settle/Pages/nsreloadedl…

  • also can put in cart now.. so not just tomorrow?

    • Ordered just now and got email saying ready for pickup.

      • Where's the link to the card? I can't even find it to put an order in :(

        • Nevermind. I'm an idiot. :D

    • And I get pulled over hot coals?!?!?!

      • +2

ethereal88 gets a free pass as everyone knows he's potato

      • Checkout Chick !?

    • +2

Yeah, pointless if you can afford to spend more, mr moneybags. I'm an orbargainer, my last GPU was $80.

      • +5

It just wouldn't be a GPU thread without a fanboi saying some stupid shit.

        • +1

You're 25? Surely you know by now people have more important things in their lifes to spend money on than video games. Right? Stop being so arrogant.

      • Being an Oz-bargainer doesn't mean you can't afford things, it means you appreciate good value.

  • My GFX is about 2 years old, a 6850 from MSY, in comparison with this 1 GB version I don't gain enough to reinvest…, but I do need a new GFX within this price bracket ! sigh

    • +2

Go for it, apparently the 7850 is faster than even a 6950, so coming from a lesser 6 series you should see a decent gain, plus you can probably sell your old card for a bit of cash on eBay anyway, makes this upgrade less than $50 for sure.

      • +3

Yep. People are buying old GPUs for absolutely silly prices on eBay, especially more famous models like the HD 6850 (more well known = more people searching for one = more bids = higher price).

You'd get more than $50 for it, I reckon. Use ebay's completed listings (advanced search) to see what they are going for.

        • +1

I've also got a 6850 in my main computer. And a 6770 in my daughter's computer at my place, and a 6570 in the computer at her mum's (single parents).

I put in an order for the 7850…. hopefully I get one! That'll then go into my desktop, and I'll cycle the cards downwards and end up with a spare 6570 to sell off :)

  • close performance to 6870 . i'd say just the right price :)

  • Hmmm interesting… can someone give me an indication of crossfire performance of these little cards (also would there be a point)? Also, Asus DCU is really the bomb. :)

    • +2

Power requirement and 1g makes the 7950 at pccg a much better option at $269 then this in cross fire

  • What's wrong with MSY??

    • +1

They're very cheap and their service levels reflect this (i.e. minimal).

Their online stock indicators aren't always reliable.

Some stores usually have long queues during peak times so some customers queue for ages only to be told the store doesn't have an item in stock. Those customers have a high tendency to go home and whinge like crazy on the internet in frustration.

Sometimes they sell grey / import stock that you will have trouble getting local warranty support for. This isn't one of those cases.

      • +1

My store is actually very helpful, not usually long queue's and stock levels usually around the mark. Have not had a problem with warranty either.. and i buy a lot of stuff (for work).

        • +1

same, MSY at ultimo has been great for me too - for years

    • -1

They aren't Umart, that's whats wrong with them.

    • +1

      Nothing if you speak Chinese.

      • -4

        -1 for being a douche.

      • +2

        LOL!

    • +1

Exactly, I've bought lots of stuff from MSY, as well as Umart, techbuy, iibuy, fluidtech etc. Never had problems with MSY. I use the store behind UTS at ultimo. the times i go ~(5:30 weekdays) its usually empty, or there's one or two people in there

  • +1

About 300Mhash/s bitcoin generating speed with the 7850. Currently ~US$1.48/day minus power costs.

    • Nice. How about Litecoin?

    • +1

ati 7900's is the best to do bitcoin, but even that the power cost is still too much so i gave up.

  • Orange it anyone?

  • Was looking at this specific GPU awhile ago but delayed it after finding out my PSU doesn't have enough juice for it.

Anyone have any recommendations on a suitable PSU ? Or a combined case with PSU ?

    • +1

What PSU do you have? Brand and wattage?

I picked up a HD 7870 the other day for my HTPC with a i3 2100 in it on a Antec 380W PSU. Playing most games the power draw is about 360-380W. But.. That's from the wall with my 50" Panasonic plasma, home theatre system (a Samsung all in one) as well as a few other things like my NAS, switch etc.

If you have a good quality PSU, don't worry about the '500W recommended PSU'. Although it does depend on how power hungry the rest of your system is.

      • Am currently using an ATI 4650 in a Medion PC that says "DC Output 350W" on the PSU.

        • +1

Does it tell you how many amps (A) it can output on the +12V line(s)? That's the important part.

        • Sorry for the fuzziness but here it is - http://s792.photobucket.com/user/eyew/media/MedionPSU.jpg.ht…

        • Dont waste your time, invest in a good PSU….

        • It looks to me like it says 16A for each of the 12V lines and 300W max split between the two. That'll be heaps. So long as you don't have a heap of other things using the 12V lines (usually hard drives) it should work just fine.

Although this assumes the numbers aren't lies.

Edit: I have to add that its quite unusual for a no name PSU to be able to output almost its whole power rating over the 12V lines.

        • Noticed that my PSU doesn't have auxiliary power - http://support.amd.com/br/kbarticles/Pages/1420-ConnectAuxil…
So back to needing a new PSU or case which has one…

        • +1

The card comes with a molex to 6 pin adaptor. My PSU only had one auxiliary connector (the 7870 needs 2) so for the other one I just used one of the molex to 6 pin adapters that came with it.

        • I can't find any molex to 6 pin adaptor in my box. There's a cross fire thing, a DVI-VGA adapter, CD, printed manual… Others have the adapter ? Is it like this one ? http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&p…
Also just noticed I only have one molex free… might be time to get a new PSU…

        • +1

Oh really? Wow ok then. I assumed cause my card came with 2 (Sapphire 7870) that yours would come with at least one considering it's a good brand.

Something like this would be fine: http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Pin-Molex-Male-to-6-Pin-PCI-E-PCI-…

You don't need 2 molex adapters to power the 6 pin one. One should do as that's all mine are.

        • +1

Picked up the 2 molex adapter and a molex splitter. All good. Happy with it so far.

        • Good work :) Was going to say if you could wait I'd of posted you my spare one for the cost of a stamp haha.

  • Not in stock in the ACT

    Bummer!

  • I almost ordered this when I got the email, didnt realize how under powered it is compared to my old 5970HD lol

Good as a cheapy but not enough power :p

  • Picked one up today for tomorrows price and got the code for the 3 games. Had been waiting for a deal after buying the budget pc machine with no graphics card http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/103436 a while back.

    • Did you get the Game Card with the 3 games —- Bioshock, Tombraider and far cry 3 Blood Dragon. Just want to confirm if its in form of a Game Card , is it inside the box or do we have to ask the shop attendant for one separately ? I asked North Melbourne store and they had no damn idea about the free games.

      • I asked for the card with the code and they went out the back and got it no issues Malvern (Vic) store.

        • Oh man!
I just picked my card up in Mitcham (vic) and had no idea about these free games!
Ill have to ring them up tomorrow to ask if I can come back and pick it up (if they have it)!
          Really want Tomb Raider…

  • This card would be worth it just for the games, sell on the card on ebay…. I didnt realize it came with those three.

  • Damn it, picked up a XFX 7870 DD last week.. should've got this instead.

  • +2

Gah…. I didn't realise we were supposed to ask for the game card! I'm going to have to email them and go back in tomorrow to pick it up.

For those wondering about the power supply issues…

I have that cheap Aldi measuring unit. I've got it at the wall, and attached to that is my UPS, and from there - my computer, two 24" screens and 2.1 speaker setup.

My machine is now the following specs - Core i5 quad-core 3.3Ghz, 16Gb RAM, 250Gb SSD, 750Gb HD, 7850 graphics card.

The measuring device says around 140W at idle. The machine itself would be a fair bit less than that, as this is also including the twin 24" screens. When I'm playing Far Cry 3, it goes up to 230W.

    So there you go :)

    • Thanks for the info. It's very helpful for those of us who run mini ITX builds which are constrained by limited power due to case size.

  • Thanks gonna pick one up for my 6 year old system… should be a good upgrade I hope. Running Q9550 with 4GB RAM.

    • It will be - those are still good CPU's with a crapload of cache if memory serves me correctly!

    • I got a 2007 intel motherboard, it has PCI 1, do you think this will work on this? I read somewhere some people had issues with a newer PCI 3 cards with older motherboards.

      • Where did you read that? I have an older motherboard as well.

EDIT Scratch that my mobo supports PCI Express 2.1 so I should be ok then I hope. Only thing I might need to OC my CPU to get the best out of the GPU, seems like I will have a bottleneck on the CPU on that card.

  • Anyone camping out for this card?

    • Why do you need to camp out for this card? You order it and then you go pick it up?

      • I ordered mine this afternoon, picked it up on the way home - already installed it. They didn't give me a game card though! :( I'll have to complain tomorrow :(

        • I just called them and the guy hurriedly just said to come by and get the card. He didn't seem that sure to be honest. Hopefully they actually have them…

      • +1

Meant to be a joke toward MSY. Lining up from outside the door.

  • How crap is MSY. I ordered one yesterday and still no confirmation email. I didn't even want one anyway but they don't know that. I don't even know why I ordered one I knew they were terrible.

  • I got my card, and a couple extra actually. I got my Tomb Raider and Bioshock and Far Cry BD which is all I wanted.

I also got a card for 20% off the purchase of Medal of Honor Warfighter. I don't want it.

If anyone wants this, please message me and I'll send it to you. Need to purchase on Origin (I'm staying away from Origin).

    First in best dressed

  • Guys and gals, I don't get it - my local MSY (pascoe value) said they don't do the AMD promotion. They did give me a game card though, probably because I kept emailing them about it.

The "card" isn't the never settle bundle, it appears to be something I use directly in origin. Ended up being just Crysis 3.

    :(

  • Got given a MoH Warfighter card to be applied at origin store.

    Not working :( Lame

  • +1

Picked up tonight… but I only got the Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider game card. No FarCry Blood Dragon.

I only got one card… are you supposed to get more than one card for the games?

    • I also only got one card but think Far Cry Blood Dragon is included. I just submitted my request and got a confirmation message on the page and my heart sank when I noticed I had a typo in my email and it ends in "coma"… and I copied and pasted into the confirmation field… Sent in a email to the support address to see if they can forward the keys to correct address…

Am really in a comatose state … I should call it a night before I wreak more damage…

    • +1

When you activate the Far Cry code is emailed as a bonus.
