Turnigy AAA LSD 900mah Low Self Discharge back in stock @HobbyKing

840

$0.99 ea + shipping
Edit: stock comes in and out of international warehouse, if no stock there than still looks like plenty of stock in Aus warehouse (see links below), prices as follows:
AAA $1.06
AA $1.73
(+ Shipping)

If you don't know what they are, have a look at past deals, e.g. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/78987
That post also has excellent info in regards to shipping.

The AA ($1.59) are also in stock: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__25023__Turnigy_AA…

The products on the above links (including for the deal) are shipped from the international warehouse…

Links for ones in the Australian warehouse (slightly more expensive but could be cheaper in shipping depends on order):

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__39273__Turnigy_AA…

If ordering from the international warehouse, you will get a lower price per unit by ensuring the total weight is as close to the relevant threshold as possible.

Intl. AA x 35g Per Total Intl. AAA x 19g Per Total Ship. Threshold
5 175 2.79 13.94 10 190 1.59 15.89 International (Registered) Air Mail 101-200g $5.99
8 280 2.46 19.71 15 285 1.46 21.84 International (Registered) Air Mail 201-300g $6.99
14 490 2.30 32.25 26 494 1.37 35.73 International (Registered) Air Mail 301-500g $9.99

28 980 2.23 62.47 N/A International (Registered) Air Mail 751g-1kg  $17.95

However, the Australian warehouse has a flat 2kg limit, so it is a simple matter of a lower price per unit for each battery added to your order.

Aus. AA x 35g Per Total Aus. AAA x 19g Per Total Ship. Threshold
7 245 3.01 21.10 13 247 1.75 22.77 AusPost eParcel Basic 2kg (NSW Warehouse) $8.99
14 490 2.37 33.21 26 494 1.41 36.55 AusPost eParcel Basic 2kg (NSW Warehouse) $8.99
28 980 2.05 57.43 52 988 1.23 64.11 AusPost eParcel Basic 2kg (NSW Warehouse) $8.99

Edit by Kabigon: I made a few typos in the table above, they should all be fixed now.

mikeInside has made a very comprehensive table which shows every combination of batteries (up to 20 of each type) and which warehouse offers the better price.

I came in looking for LSD, sad to find it only meant Low Self Discharge

Sad to think you thought you were the first one to come up with this joke :-p

Quiet! That man is a genius.

Anyone has recommendations for a AA/AAA smart charger from the store to go with this?

    • +1

      search for Crosse on Amazon

great value for money charger. U just need to get a battery box to connect the batteries to the charger

      • +7

        great value for money charger.

DO NOT get a charger that cant charge single cells. when you charge them in banks like that some cells get over charged and some get undercharged, eventually screwing up your batteries.

get something like a La Crosse or MAHA C9000 smart charger which will peak charge each cell individually, batteries will last much longer.

dont make the mistake i made originally……………

        • +1

fair point. I always keep each bank of cells together from when they are new. eg if a torch uses 4 AA, i will always charge and keep those 4 cells together. When i buy new cells i write on each cell the date, and a number so i know which bank/set it belongs too. I write the date to keep track of its age. Critical items get the newer cells.
I regularly cycle my batteries too to help keep them in good condition.
I guess i am a bit patantic when i comes to looking after rechargeable batteries.

        • +2

          Good Grief - Patanic ???

          You mean Pedantic?

Can the eneloop chargers be used for this brand?
Also not sure if this have been asked before but how does this brand in AAA compare with eneloops?
    Cheers!

    • +1

yes, yes and no. but good value.
some review stated as good as eneloop, but failure rate higher, easily get a dud 1 out of 100?
      eneloop 1 out of 1000?

      • +1

yes but make sure its a smart charger

these are better than eneloops. higher capacity and work out cheaper. out of the 50 odd different aa and aaa's even 3 years on they are still performing flawlessly and still test at there rated power.

        • +1

Eneloop's claim to fame is their LSD-ness. Did you only test their rated power after 3 years, or did you also test their LSD-ness?

  • +1

How do you estimate shipping? I didn't want to get to the Paypal stage to test it :X

    • +1

You can't unless you create an account.

Total for 10 Shipped from the USA warehouse is US$15.89, and $19.59 from the AU warehouse.

PS. tried the code suggested in the hobbyking comments, D5837716-3199-430D-81F3-3F3A1A891BEC this did not provide any further discount. Might be worth someone trying it on one of the non sale battery's to see if it works out any better?

      • +1

Ahh alright, thanks for that. Still seems decent.

      • +1

you can get them shipped from the NSW warehouse. shipping starts at $8.99 for up to 2kg

        • +1

          How do you estimate shipping?

add them to your cart and it will give you shipping options and also tell you how many more grams you have left in the same shipping amount so you can get as many as fits in the shipping cost.

  • +1

Will this work with the recent COTD 5dollar charger?

    • +2

yes but they wont last as long (both in terms of the life of the battery and the amount of charge it will hold after several recharges)

  • +3

Guys….silly question but how much are these AAA batteries @ HobbyKing normally?

    • +2

always the same price but usually are sold out hence why every time they come back in stock someone posts them as a new deal to let people know again.

      • The question is whether they are still doing more R&D to improve these cells like what Sanyo is doing with the Eneloops.

Turnigy has always been a cheap cell, but I think it hasn't changed much over the past 2 years.

        • I think it hasn't changed much over the past 2 years.

or in this case not thought to much at all..

yes the HK's have also evolved even over the last 12 months odd upping there mah's even more to well over the eneloops…

ive never said eneloops are bad batteries (even in the old HK deals), im an eneloop owner as well… its just the HK's are better…

        • not ture, old AAA turnigy I bought was 850mAh at 79 cents
          now it;s 900mAh at 99cents?

old AA was 2200, new one is 2400 equivalent to eneloop XXX

    • +1

      Normal price.

I think they are relatively new to the Australian warehouse though, a better bargain if you need a lot of batteries.

      • It's, I agree. I was surprised to see them there on stock!

  • +1

Big plus from me. Wasn't going to buy, but the calculations at the top made it easy.

  • Thanks OP, especially with the details regarding postage + weights.
These are great batteries - have used the AA and AAA for a while with a lacrosse charger from Amazon, no problems at all.

  • Are these $ USD or AUD?

    • USD

      • Thanks. So it seems from other comments below. As the AUD value declines, it starts to make a difference. Plus some credit cards charge extra convestion fees on USD. You need to know to use your 28 Degrees Mastercard on foreign currency; other rewards cards on AUD, making sure your card doesn't cahrge a fee for AUD transactions outside Aus.

  • +1

I was going to post this when I got the alert. Glad to see someone did. The best priced LSD batteries around except when eneloop are on sale at dickys

  • +1

Buying a 2kg lot from the AUS warehouse works out the cheapest.

    57 AA's (1.995kg) would cost $107.60 shipped ($1.89 ea)
    105 AAA's (1.995kg) would cost $120.29 shipped ($1.15 ea)

If only I needed that many batteries.

  • +6

Can anyone tell me how to format this into a proper table? Anyway it has all the prices for Aus and HK for any combination of batteries up to 20, hope it helps. :)

Hang on guys, I can break this coded message, just give me some time.

no time, just cut the wire

          or take the blue pill…

        • the blue pill is a pain killer right?? Because I got a headache tryin to make sense of all that!

    • +8

Dang I can't even edit the post now.

Anyway I made an easier to understand image version of the table, it will tell you whether the AUS or HK warehouse will give you a better deal for a particular combination of AA and AAAs:

  • Hey so guys a question, what's up with the site currency selector? I changed the site to AUD, and it all said my order would be xx.xxAUD. When it went through paypal though it ended up charging me in USD, and converting up like $5 to AUD. Is this a fault or something? Otherwise it just seems a bit redundant to have the site option.

    • Update, I checked and they say they're meant to be in USD. Not sure why the site lets you 'Order' in AUD.

  • -1

Be careful i got completely screwed over from hobbyking.

    • +3

did hobbyking kidnap your rich boss's dog to hold it for ransom, but when she accidentally gets the dog back, she thinks that it's you who's been kidnapped?

    • +3

Always good practice to order using PayPal when possible. In this case it is, so I don't see what could be the problem - you are completely protected.

  • +1

Just bought 10x AAA's from the Aus warehouse! Total= $22.31AUD. Table above is off?

    • +1

The tables are in USD, so it gets converted. See my above comments :P

      • +1

Edit: Woops, didnt realise the table at the top was for AA's, not AAA's! My bad!

  • +1

Whoa gmail decided to hide the notification about replies to this thread so just before bed I decided to have a look and 62 votes!

Thanks to Kabigon for adding the tables! I was quite short on time when posting so really appreciate the effort to improve the post!

  • Quick question on the currency conversion - a total of $11.99 turns into $13.59. That's a pretty steep conversion rate even for Paypal. For future reference, is there a way of paying that cuts this down?

    • +1

Use a 28 degrees MasterCard or equivalent charged in $US.

  • i want batteries but i dont really use batteries for anything LOL

what do you battery gurus actually use your batteries for anyway?

    • +1

you need them for if you have a vitamin deficency. Vitamin AA Vitamin AAA

    • Remotes, clocks, toys, baby monitor, electric toothbrush, wireless keyboard & mouse, torches… just off the top of my head. There's heaps of stuff that runs on batteries. But if you don't use them why do you want them??

      • +1

i love a bargain like everyone else here! lol

i have a torch that needs AA batteries.. remotes and stuff too but the batteries in these things last a year or more as it is.. still,, i guess its better than buying disposable ones.

i dont have kids so i guess thats why my battery requirements arent too high at the moment.. lol

  • Anyone in WA want to split an order? I only want like 3 or 4.

    • just get the whole lot, i got to share the duraloop last time , each person 12, till the end used up in a month.

Australia is one of the highest country "pissing" mineral off (consuming multi vitamins), extra AA and AAA vitamins are fine.

  • Thanks OP.
Had few items on my wishlist, now I can bundle them with the batteries & save on postage.

    • AAA on international site
    • now out of stock
    • Thanks, I've updated the description but am not marking the deal as out of stock for now.

  • Don't know how I missed these but I've just picked up 20AA's. Price is great and finally I have a use for my battery charger.

    • Just had mine show up, great price and very fast shipping :). Got some breaking in to do over the next week to check the capacity.

  • Stock for AAA are back on Int'l site, just bought 15.

    • Thanks, updated description slightly.

  • Got mine a few days ago!

Seems that they aren't pre-charged at all? Tried putting these in my new scales (from deals direct bargain!) and they didn't have enough juice to work! It's surprising as they are supposed to be LSD….

  • I'm currently breaking in 4 of my AA's (I'm aware they don't need breaking in because they are LSD I just wanted to check out the capacity).

I haven't done this for a long time and can't remember so does anyone know if it's normal for batteries to go way over capacity during a break in (at around 900mins in).

    During Break in numbers

    1. 3460mAh - 1.48V - 959mins
    2. 3459mAh - 1.48V - 959mins
    3. 3451mAh - 1.48V - 959mins
    4. 3454mAh - 1.48V - 959mins

I know that the numbers will come down but that looks huge at over 1000mAh over capacity. Batteries aren't too warm at a guess I would say 5degrees over room temp don't know if that's important but there it is.

    • what charger are you using? what charge and discharge rates are you using?

i can double check with my MAHA MH-C9000 but im fairly sure when i did mine when i first got them they only read a few percent over there stated capacity. iirc it was around 2500-2600'ish for the 2400's.

edit: oh and is that the capacity its used to charge them or there discharge capacity?

      • I've got a Powerex MH-C9000 Wizard One Charger-Analyzer doing a Break-In with the 'Set Battery Capacity' at 2500mAh.

Just to make sure it's clear these aren't final numbers (I think there's another 16 hours or so to go until they've finished).

  • AUD crashed…

I think it's now much cheaper to find DSE sales.
