So the point in commenting was….?

      • +13

To prove how lazy Big w staff are… duh

    • IS that how you guys pick up the phone as well?

    • Let's all shop at K-Mart.

  • The only discount you wil be getting is staff discount. Other than that ing.

  • +2

None left in Pagewood or Rockdale checked over the phone, giving up.

    • Thanks for the info on Rockdale. Save me the trouble of going there :)

  • Only Silver is Discounted. None in Livingston WA

  • Bought a couple at North Lakes. There were still 4 or 5 left at 5pm.

Edit - Just read it's only silver. If that's the case then I got the last two. I thought it was for the blue as well, but I didn't check the price on those.

  • No Stock in Westfield doncaster when I came and asked, I should have give a phone call before I went there.

  • Thanks OP.

I got the last 3 from Parabanks which the service attendant was able to put on hold for me. I tried calling Golden Grove, Elizabeth, and TTP beforehand, but none have stock.

I saw another Ozbargainer in-store at Parabanks with a service attendant, holding 3 pink HDD's which I don't think are on special. It feels weird encountering another OzBargain member.

  • No more in Box Hill, Vic. The lady said a lot of people were looking for it.

    • Must have been ozbargained (as usual). LOL.

  • +1

The QV store lied, or at least did not check enough for the first calls
There were no stock in the rack when I went there, however a person in front of me asked the staff to check the stock, and he managed to get 2, said to be the last ones (this happened less than 30 mins ago)

  • +1

Just got the last silver one from parabanks, managed to get a pink one for $30 also.

    • +1

You're probably the person I saw in-store about ~45 minutes ago. Well done on getting the pink for $30.

      • +3

Maybe it was me,I had a black t shirt on and my 2 kids with me.
But it was a fight to get the pink one at $30,I rang up 1st before I left to see if they had the sliver ones in stock, the girl said they had one left, but had plenty of pink ones for $30 also.i asked her was she positive the pink ones were $30 because I was coming from Modbury to get them, she said yes the pink ones were definitely $30.
So I asked her to hold 1 silver and 2 pink ones and I will be down straight away.
When I got there they called the manager who told me they made a mistake and the pink ones were $98.
So I moaned how I came from Modbury to buy them because the girl double checked that the pink ones were $30 also and they should honour the deal.
Then manager went off, came back about 10 minutes later and said they would honour one of them.. Good enough for me.

        • Well done!

When I rang to see if they had any silver ones in stock, I was told they had 3 (which I bought).

    • please post a receipt thanks

  • went to carnes hill(out of stock), then went to bonnyrigg(out of stock), called wetherill park( wouldnt let me reserve), called Liverpool(reserved one for me)

    • One was reserved this morning by some lady at the Wetherill Park store. I got there at 4pm and they were like "meh, she's too late" and I got the last one :)

      • +4

That's a pretty crappy thing of them to do especially if she's been at work at all day.

        • The lady should have said what time she'll pick it up, so the store can mark the item as pickup at XX:XX time.

  • -8

Waste of time. I went and rang a bunch of stores. There was a few in one store the rest of them had no stock (even though the system said it did).

    • These systems usually get updated daily, so they would have sold most of them today (which makes sense as look how many up votes this deal has got in such a short space of time)

      • +2

Umm no they looked up and said they hadnt had the stock since feb. The online system was just wrong.

    • +2

No need to neg the deal because of your bad luck. I and many others managed to score.

  • +1

None left North of the river in W.A

    • what about mirrabooka? says there's some in stock

      • +1

None, I just called and the lady on the phone knew exactly the hdd I was talking about even though I didn't explain which one I was after and she was out of stock. Seems like this deal has been well and truly ozbargained lol

  • -7

    ozbaragined Vic and Qld

    • No reason to neg just because you didn't get one.

    • +1

Which means people on this site were able to get their hands on one. Just because you were too slow doesn't mean it's neg worthy whatsoever.

  • Got two about an hour and a half ago from Big W Morayfield, Queensland.
They still had $98 or something on the price tag but it scanned as $30.
Pretty sure there was more in stock.

    • +1

No more at Morayfield. As at 6.50, display box only left. Suggested they remove the display box if no stock. Assistant - why would we do that???

      • Haha typical Morayfield attitude.

  • Fountain gate vic Nil stock :(

  • Karingal Southland, Parkmore, Waverley Gardens, Endeavour Hills all out of stock, despite what the stock levels on the website says ;-(

  • Nothing at Watergardens…

  • +2

Just called Whitfords WA (Hillarys)store, as they were showing stock (5PM WA time). When I asked if I could speak with someone in the area that sells portable hard dives, straight away she said,if you are calling about the $30 one, you are too late, we have had loads of calls on them and they have all gone.

Thanks anyway OP. Nice spot, I was too slow.

  • +1

Lady at garden city, upper mount gravatt said they were sold out all over brisbane :(

  • -4

    Thanks for posting this deal.

Grabbed last 4 in Cairns, so don't waste your time there.

    • -1

Will await your eBay. Put em up for $99 please, I want to ensure you get a nice fat profit.

      • Next time I'll post heaps left on shelf and you can waste your time going there, or maybe you can make a day out of it and key cars better than your own. You're pathetic!

  • +7

Well, this explains the sudden influx of calls at work about hard drives.

    • +1

Do we all sound like nerds?

      • +5

Everyone sounded the same to the point where I actually thought it was the same person calling over and over again…I asked one person if they had called earlier and they mentioned ozbargain and everything made sense

        • Ozbargain…..It brings us closer together :) …… till someone got the last HDD at your local :(

  • +3

Thanks for the sharing the deal. Nice first post smackus

  • Not to familiar with this brand, il stick to sandisk hardrives. Good bargain regardless.

    • +6

You haven't heard of Verbatim? They have been making portable pc media for about as long as portable pc media has existed..
      http://www.vintagecomputing.com/wp-content/images/retroscan/…

      • +2

Yeah they made good quality 5 1/4 inch floppy disk.

        • +3

Dont forget the 8 inches of floppy goodness as well.

        • +4

you can get a pill for that

      • +1

Love the retro Victor Borge endorsement! Thanks!

      • TBH they died over the last 5 years or so. Noticeable decline in their DVD and USB quality.

    • Yup I had their 3 1/2 inch drives years back.

    • sandisk make HDDs?

  • +1

Nah tonight was too cold to trek around looking for available drives. I tired to scan i pink drive inside its plastic antitheft enclosure it wouldn't scan. Apparently its also an anti purchase enclosure to discourage people from buying it. I put it down right there and left the store in disgust.

  • +6

I would love to know how many of the people voting + actually got one … yes, its a bargain, but not if you can't get them because there aren't any left in your state.

Heres me … the idiot, for thinking a big company like Big W might have a semi-accurate SOH system - Seaford SA doesn't have any, as I just learnt (I could have sworn "In stock" meant a store has stock, and "Low stock" means they might only have a few - but it seems "In stock" means they've been long gone).

    • +1

Based on the comments it seems that many ozbargainers have got in and bought numerous drives, not just one each so can understand how something which may have been in stock at start of day has quickly depleted

    • It looks like quite a few people got one. I vote based on the deal, not based on whether or not I bought one. That way other people can benefit too.

  • +1

Bought x2 at Kwinana Hub WA ($28.50 with ING card), still a few left. Marked as $98 on shelf but scanned as $30.

    • silver or pink mate?

      • They were silver ones.

  • Thanks op, got the last 1 at Rockdale

  • +1

Got the last 2 at Charlestown BIG W just before 6pm and they were fielding calls as I was picking them up (phoned ahead and they put them aside for me thankfully) - No stock at Marketown Newcastle -

  • Thank you very much op.

Got the last one at werribee around 8:40.

  • got 1 at chullora NSW.. tried to get the pink one at 30.. but manager wont do it…

  • this is why i should check ozbargain during the day
looks damn tempting at this price, might have to riskit and pick one up (500gbs for $30 is ideal as a backup HDD)

  • Knowing Big W there won't be any stock. It's a ploy to get you in the door and walk away with something else instead.

    • Too true, though I had no means to take home the dinner plate set, ohh well

  • +1

Who was at bonnyrigg crying over no stock? Own up!!

  • Is this a direct to ebay title bridenights ?

  • What drive inside?

    • +1

      Toshiba MK5075GSX

  • Deal might be over. Just scanned a blue one and it came up as $98. The website also says SILVER while the other colours are full price.

Gonna attempt a haggle/price match OzBargain style!

  • +1

I picked up the last two at Macquarie Centre, NSW.. I just happened to check OzB at the right time, only 1hr after the post was up.. So they did exist.. got extra staff discount too thanks to my bro…

  • +1

    Sold out Brisneyland CBD

  • No idea why this is pushed as USB3.0 it's incredibly slow even by usb2 standards.

    • Whatch you talkin bout Willis? I'm maxing out USB2 on my HTPC and when connected to my USB3 laptop she was flying.

Of course I did the sane thing anyone would do and formatted it to NTFS straight away to remove all that bloatware.

    • +1

I copied a couple backup files either way, and read speed was around 90MB/s and write speed was about 70MB/s. I didn't test it, but that's definitely a USB 3.0 speed, although not in the fastest tier.

      • -1

My bad, USB3.0 extension cable wasn't in a 3 port.

  • none available in Albury. The staff knew nothing about the deal

  • No Stock in SA at Cumberland park or Marion. I rang Seaford who were listed on the website as stocked but they said they had non either

  • +1

the bigW website and staff are useless. walked in to a store that had plenty of stock according to the webpage and they had nothing there. Sales rep had no idea.

  • Out of stock at all SE Suburbs VIC.

  • Three remaining at Tea Tree Plaza, SA store (as of 1pm). Just go to the counter in electrical and ask.

    • +2

I called up yesterday and said they don't stock it. Not the smartest of staff I guess.

  • Sweet. Got the last silver 8.54am at Warrawong NSW. When reserving it last night I was assured all colours were $30 but I chose silver because that was the colour specified online, thinking I might change to blue instore. This morning, they said their head office now insists only silver and black could sell for $30.

  • Called up Big W in Jesmond and they said they had none but maybe could talk to the manager about other colours. I went in and talked to a guy there who went to the back and pulled out a few silver ones. It's worth double checking with the higher ups just to be absolutely sure some staff member isn't trying to do a sneaky for themsleves!

  • +1

    None in Epping Vic
    Salesperson were unhelpful too

  • In this day of computing and ERP software I find it hard to imagine that they cannot do an accurate stock inventory. You just need to look at how hopeless Masters chain is to see that real picture of Woolies logistics.

  • I bought two from Big W Lavington today.

  • Tried yesterday at BigW Runaway Bay, QLD, they were out of stock for Silver, and manager wouldn't want to sell the pink at same price. :\
    Duh!

  • Picked myself up 3 :)!

    • Where?

      • Wherever Broden lives
