UPDATE 2

The correct discounted price should have been $99.00. This discounted price is based on a $20 cash off discount from Dell’s RRP, which is $119.00 inclusive of GST and delivery.

We understand this error may have inconvenienced you. As a gesture of goodwill, we would like to offer you the Logitech MX Revolution Rechargeable Cordless Laser Mouse for $90.00 inclusive of GST and delivery, up to the same number of items as your original order. We understand you may have already made your purchase elsewhere and you are under no obligation to take up this offer.

If you have any questions regarding this error, or if you are still interested in purchasing the mouse, please respond to this email within the next 14 days so that we can arrange for a Dell representative to contact you.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this error has caused.

  • I'm sure all the people who bought 10+ really helped Dell come to the conclusion that they should be nice and process the orders…

  • i ordered 2….hope dell honour it this time…otherwise just f**k it….

  • its a pretty epic pricing error if thats the case. The email I received with the specials had the mouse advertised, and it was an image.

If its an image, its not likely that it was generated from a database, so someone would have had to type the price into photoshop or whatever when they were creating the email as well as being wrong in the original database…

if dell dishonor it, office works would have got owned with price matches for nothing. Aren't officeworks supposed to be mates with dell? sounds like a nice way to slowly send them broke lol…

    • this is too common, I have just 1st hand experienced with HP, one day it was this price, the other it's more than doubled in graphic. Given DELL is famous for not honouring mistake and have their bottom well covered in their T&C, good luck with that. No need to jump the gun and vote +ve until someone really gets it. the promo was suppose to run till April 2nd, maybe that was their April fools joke leaked out early!!

    • Can you post the image, or a screen cap of the email somewhere?

  • +3

I honestly think we have more chance of putting cheese in our mailbox and a mouse showing up then waiting for Dell to send the ones we purchased today.

  • the advertisement was an IMAGE, it wasn't text. This IS bait and switch, everyone that has ordered place a complaint with the ACCC.

  • So what's the deal? Is it an actual deal or are Dell pulling another scam/whatever? Or does know one know yet?

I placed my order yesterday, deposited payment into their bank account and recieved a "Dell Order Acknowledgement" email. That's it, haven't got any emails from them today.

    • it's another Dell scam.

  • Gratz to the price match peoples

  • don't think Dell aren't doing this on purpose:

Results 1 - 10 of about 965,000 for dell price error. (0.25 seconds)

965,000 URLs about Dell bait and switching people all over the world.

    • +2

Problem is back when that happened they took the money from credit cards straight away which entered Dell and the buyer into a contract, since then they don't charge credit cards until the order is checked and accepted, meaning they are covering their asses if they screw up again. When Dell did the screw up on the cheap desktops (also advertised on this site) the boss of Dell AU was quoted from memory as saying it would never happen again and the error had been fixed, sure enough 2 days later it happened again and this mouse advert is yet another "error".

Dell won't send the mice but all this bad publicity will cost them far more then the cost of a few hundred mice. I terminated the sale of a $30,000 server with them when they didn't honor my desktops I ordered, so personally I feel I am in front in the Dell vs Me battle :)

      • haha, good stuff. Good job hotzone :D

  • here we go again…

  • +5

What a bunch of retards. If this is an error, they ballsed it up. I only wish they'd charged our CC's. Fair Trading Act Trumps Any BS disclaimers, once charge is made, they're legally obligated to provide product.

    • Well, thats like saying it with the CDWOW's Need for speed thing! they charged the shit outta our cc's, but i dont see them honoring it~! :(

      • They have to. Checkout the department of fair trading's website. They should have a fact sheet. Print it out, use it for reference when they lay some BS T&C's down. Fair Trading Act wins every time!

  • so no one received a confirmation email… did anyone receive any other sort of email after the aknowledgment one?

  • +2

dell should get banned from this site. they have bullshit deals that are a waste of time.

thanks submitter, but dell, you are a piece of flaming shit!

  • It would be nice if Dell at least followed up within 24 hours if this is going ahead. A simple email apology would even suffice (assuming it was a mistake).

  • I dont think it is a pricing error, but of course Dell will claim it so as they cannot meet the demand.

    Static ice: $65.

Dell: $34 WITH "$20 off" special. Meaning without the $20 off, it would be priced at $55, which while still being cheap, is comparable with the static ice price.

Of course, this is assuming the static ice price is legitimate.

The mouse is over three years old, perhaps nearing EOL , or perhaps they had too many in storage and the batteries are dying?

    • Only $65 one I can see on static is a VX for notebooks, the cheapest is $69 when i search for the MX Revolution and its a refurb from www.shoppingsquare.com.au

    • thats what I'm thinking.. that they were clearing out stock. I think this will be honoured.

    • I completely agree with you, mate. But when I tried to justify my point on price of Dell Vostro in November last year saying that Dell won't lose money, some people just did not get it. And Dell itself was very defensive.

  • +1

I had a gut feeling it was too good to be true lol!

Just like when u see some hot chick with a nerdy rich guy lol!

I wonder what the excuse would be about the pricing mistake on the actual images lol!

    WE'VE BEEN

    WAIT FOR IT…

    DILLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    AGAIN.

  • dang…should've bought the entire stock @ OW South Melb. when i was there…

    • Same happened here

  • STOP VOTING POSITIVE PEOPLE! LOL!

  • Tuesday morning and my inbox is still empty, even checked my spam folder.

    • which is not necessarily a bad thing. As was pointed out, the deal was published as an image, so the argument that it's a mistake would not hold much water. So maybe they can go with the "We've run out of stock" argument, but then again, why did some of us get that error when ordering and some of us didn't? It's all pointing to "We're gonna get it!" so far…

      • I'm guessing they will honour a few orders and then use the out of stock excuse for the rest.

  • Just saw this on whirlpool, the easter specials have not been taken down from dell site (can they still claim a price error if they keep advertising it?)

    • Tis is a very good read for everyone here.

      We could all get it…..

  • +1

Some of you guys need to calm down…it's not the end of the world if we don't get it. :D

    • Haha yeah nothing like releasing pent up aggression on a multi national vendor that won't supply a little mouse! ;)

Cmon man, we gotta have problems! I need that mouse otherwise i'll get MAD!!!

We're a funny little computer obsessed community … myself included.

    • +1

      True… but:-

      1. Dell have done this a number of times now. (This time the item is much cheaper than a system pricing error, thereby affecting many more people)
      2. They also sent an email with the same price, a step I don't believe they have done before with 'pricing errors'
      3. At what point is this simply unacceptable, despite their disclaimers? Once or twice, fair enough. But again?!!?
      4. They may still have the offer available on a link (TBC)

It's the principle of the matter. (Yes I ordered a few for friends so have a vested interest too)

At the least Dell should honour orders for amll numbers which they consider to be for personal use. People who ordered stupid quantities should only get a limited number.

  • +1

Just noticed a few went on eBay haHAHha

  • aren't they even going to send a rejection email???

    • Takes them a while - over a week last time before they phoned me.

      • Did they try to resell you at the RRP?

They better not try to bait and switch, no matter what this is gonna be interesting.

      • +1

Yes, and in all this time they have our money.

  • Those new to Dell screw ups should be warned Dell takes days to tell us it's a mistake. Talking to their solicitors takes time and figuring out the correct way to tell us all to get stuffed legally isn't something they hurry.

Scotty, why can't i change my vote?

    • Can't change your vote more than 72 hours after your original vote.

  • Haven't got the email yet. Me thinks they have got away with so many 'pricing errors' in the past that they just expect to get away with it again.

  • +1

Another low blow by Dell - negative from me and glad to be the first to cast it.

  • The funny thing is that while this managed to take the number one bargain on Ozbargain, not a single person will be getting the mouse for $34.10 from Dell. A few might get one eventually but not for under $100 each. Some bargain, lol! One of the worst bargains ever (can get the mouse cheaper than $100 without much effort) turns out to be rated one of the best ever.

  • changed my vote. good catch by pokerplayer but ultimately a poor bargain as we all kind of suspected it would be. How could it be a genuine mistake when the special was sent out in an email as well??

  • Vote revoked

    • How to revoke the vote?

      • +2

At the top of the page, just above the picture, there is a link called 'vote'.

In that link, find your vote and click the symbol next to the green tick to revoke.

Credit for OP but if it's true good to be true then don't waste your time with DELL.

  • Anyone heard anything….

I received the "Dell Order Acknowledgement" at 30/03/2009 7:24 AM but nothing since???

You'd think they learnt their lesson by now.

Lets all call the ACCC, and complain. Hardly worth the effort really, but get some satifaction taking it out on them. Im sure some of you guys are used to it, for me it's the first time. It's unbelieveable they get away with it.

  • -6

They don't put their T&C for no reason, waste of time when DELL already legally covered their bottoms.

MISTAKES: While all efforts are made to check pricing and other errors, inadvertent errors do occur from time to time and Dell reserves the right to decline orders arising from such errors.

When you place your order online, you have already agreed to this 'price error' condition, you acknowledged and agreed to it now you feel you should get ACCC involve, waste of tax players' money.

** Please vote negative to my comment if you agree to my points made.

    • but y do u want us to vote negative to your comment… as watever u have comeented is very true… it shud be positive instead..right???

      • creeps_bay, you just have to expect a whole bunch of hungry pussies who just won't let go of the mice will take on anyone who talks down on a revenge. and obviously vote negative blindly without thinking the consequences. You can see today I already have 6 -ve supporters :P
Grow up ppl, Dell have got away with these many times and why would they even care for a little mouse. This time they don't even bother to call you in person.

    • edit

  • Unfortunatly there is no point calling the ACCC. They won't do anything.
I went through the process regarding CD WOW's Need for Speed special. Even though they charged my credit card, ACCC said the only thing I could do was take them to the Small Claim's Tribunal in my state which is a waste of time for the money concerned, in both cases.

  • Hoorayyyyy… order has been rejected…. as we all probably have expected

    Regards,

    Dell Australia.

Notice the part where they clearly offer me the option to buy it for $119. :|

I urge everyone to write a complaint to the ACCC and/or other government bodies about this. As has been mentioned, there is no legal contract between us and dell to purchase the product for $34 but you can still make a complaint in regards to Bait and Switch advertising.

    • -1

Bait and Switch advertising is when a retailer attracts customers by offering a product at a low price (bait), claims it cannot sell it becuase it's sold out and then offers a DIFFERENT product for a higher price (switch)…not the case here…

      • "Sometimes traders will try to attract you to their business by advertising goods or services at special prices. If they do not have a reasonable supply of the good available at that price and sell-out very quickly, this may be considered bait advertising. What is 'reasonable' depends on a number of factors, such as

        • how many items of the product is usually sold
        • the type of product, the way it was promoted
        • the sales expectations of the trader.

If a trader has genuinely underestimated the popularity of a sale product, they may offer you a raincheck so you can purchase the product at the special price when it is re-stocked or offer you an alternative product of an equivalent standard at a similar price. If a trader responded like this, then it is unlikely to be considered bait advertising. "

From the ACCC site. My bad on the "switch" part. Its simply "bait advertising"

  • "Dell offers to either cancel your order or if you would like to proceed to purchase the product at $119.00 including GST, please respond via email, and we will get a Dell representative to call you at the earliest and take you through the ordering process."

I am not happy. Neither should we.

  • Shoulda went to Officeworks… woulda got it straight away.

    Shoulda woulda coulda.

  • +1

Ha, just in time for april fools! Guess who are the fools.

  • Stupid Dell

  • Dell are offering people a chance to buy it at a lower price now that's bait advertising?

What are the chances that the $119.00 will result in the item being ANOTHER "mistake" lol.

    ACCC here we come!

I think we need to change the rule on changing your vote. I want to change mine but as I voted more than 72 hours ago I can't change it now.

I think there should be longer time allowed or no time at all.

Lets call this the Dell rule change.

  • +2

I've just lodged a formal complaint with the ACCC under the Fair Trading Act Section 60 'Bait & Switch Advertising'.

I encourage others to do the same. Just fill out the email form, Took me five minutes.

    http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/54217

I don't expect to get the mouse but i do not tolerate this kind of behavior from large vendors!

  • +1

This product wasn't just stumbled across on their website where someone/something inadvertantly put a wrong price against an item. This time they actually marketed/advertised it by sending an email under the pretense of an easter special. Surely this makes it different to the other times Dell has claimed to have made a pricing error. Dell actively chased me for my business using this product at this price.

I just replied DELL and now will compalin to ACCC and Fair Trade Office. (Guys do the same, lets teach them a lesson)

    Dear Sir / Madam

As per the attached email sent on your behalf the mouse was advertised for $34 and it was available for purchase at that price, and even was available for sale for $33 at the small business division. so your claim that this was a genuine mistake is not valid by any means. as both the advertisement and the shopping cart had the price of $34.10 and your small business division had it on offer for 33$ and a typing mistake would only apply to the advertising and not the shopping carts!!!!!

The link below still have the mouse advertised, even that the product is no longer available.
    http://au.dell.com/PS!fHWUfqwpMisFBgIAAAAGCgFICgcxNDkyNjQ1Cg…

Furthermore customers were able to price match the mouse at Officeworks upon Officeworks staff calling Dell Sales and confirming that the offer was valid. how can you explain that? How do you explain confirming to another retailer that the price was correct on the first day of the advertisement? and what about the losses cause to Officeworks based on the claim of genuine mistake!!!!!!

Based on the above, I reserve my right getting the Logitech MX Revolution Rechargeable Cordless Laser Mouse at the advertised price of $34.10

Upon failure to confirm so within 2 days, I am afraid I will to take further action with the ACCC, the Fair Trade Office and the small claims tribunal. (if needed)

    Hoping for a satisfactory reply.

    • Good for you

    • You should post the above to ACCC instead - power in numbers?
