Samsung SRF579DLS 579L French Door Refrigerator $1,250 Delivered (w/ Store Credit + CB) @TGG

560

Looking for a new fridge and seeing all the bargains here i calculated a pretty good deal.

The SRF579DLS sells at the moment for $1599 @ TGG. You need to buy your self something else in there for another $101 to come to $1700

On top of that you will get a $250 voucher from TGG and $200 cash back from Samsung. In fact the fridge is then unbeatable $1150 but since you have to spend the $101 to get to $1700 I wrote that it is $1250 which is way below any competitor.

I know everyone can do the math on their own but i have just thought since i did it for myself to share, maybe someone needs a cheap fridge.

Very good deal really. Watch out, this fridge is massive; measure up the doorways you have to go through before purchase.

    • Actually most fridge nowadays have detachable doors, they usually have instructions on how to detach it.

We had the same issue with a big fridge with a old house.

no.. i have this fridge… the doors DO NOT come off easily. When you put the fridge 'together' you have to put the handles on yourself. Trying to get them off again is VERY VERY hard. Trust me, I just moved house two weeks ago.. had no probs getting it in the house.. took us nearly 2 hours to get it out of the house.

This fridge is tall and deep. Not so wide for a fridge of this size.

Water is a bottle in the door you refill. Ice is plumbed only (if you want it) otherwise you turn that function off. Overall a very good fridge, but will only suit those with the right fridge space.

Ours is twelve months old but have to sell it as the new house simply can't house it.

  • link to 200$ cash back please as couldn't see .. Could see on HN and to compare HN is selling 1999$, hope its the same model. Link http://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-579l-layered-steel-fr…

The Samsung cashback ends tomorrow just fyi.

      • I know, that is why i have added tomorrows date as expiry date.

    • How much is the cashback?

  • Great deal…I was happy to pay $1600 for this fridge and have been extremely satisfied with the purchase. Highly recommended!! +1

  • As far as I know, this is the documentation for the $250 cash back from TGG

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/cons/groups/public/documents/b…

  • Good find dosada, great price.

  • It's a good deal, as long as you were intending to buy something else from TGG for $250 at the same time to use the voucher on.
But I suppose it is still cheaper than what those who commented earlier quoted HN were selling it for.
    (Which is no real suprise).

I bought a similar Samsung fridge for $1300 a couple years ago. It's good the finish is stain proof. So your fingerprints don't show up :)

  • My brand new Samsung 2-door fridge must have has a special stain attractant finished applied before I bought it :/

  • Energy Rating 1.5 Stars

    :/

    • Is this due to size ?

    • Interestingly it uses less power than my current 6 star fridge, which is almost 20 years old. Guess they changed the rating system.

      • Yes 2010/2011

        • +4

What's funny is I kept saying to myself what an awesome fridge it is for being 6 stars and so old.

    • I may be wrong, but the information gave by the sales rep is that, when it says 1.5 star it is actually 6.5 stars (5 added), if this is true, it must be indicated somewhere…

      • It will be on the energy rating sticker. They added the second row of stars, but no-one sees it. Curiously http://www.energyrating.gov.au only rates it as a 2 star.

  • Would NSW get the bonus $100 coles card as well?

    • Ahh already expired this one.

  • i'm looking to buy a second fridge. it's a shame this monster can't get pass the front door.

    Dimensions
Height: 1772 mm Width: 817 mm Depth: 667 mm Depth:824 mm (including doors)

    • +6

Try set it up like an old A/C unit; attach it to a 1772x817mm window….

  • 1.5 stars energy rating and a common problem with the drawers filling with water. This deal is an obvious pass for me. Thanks for posting up that review.

IMO, here's best way to look at it for anyone considering the purchase:

    • Fridge is ticketed for $1599.
    • Delivery is $2.
    • If purchased before 5pm today (14th Aug 2013), you are eligible to receive a $200 gift card from Samsung
    • In addition to the above you will receive $140 store credit from The Good Guys.
    • Or IF you spent an additional $99 in the same transaction, your store credit would be $250. Online purchases will receive their store credit via email no later than Thurs 22nd August 2013

In my eyes, this is not a $1250 purchase. It is a $1601 purchase (inc. delivery). Don't get me wrong, the two applicable promotions are decent value. But one is an in store credit and the other is a prepaid credit card. Neither is an immediate discount; you still NEED $1601 to begin with.

If there was nothing else you needed/wanted from TGG at time of purchase, you will EVENTUALLY have paid $1261 for this fridge. This is after you receive your gift card from Samsung, spend that and then find something else at Good Guys to spend your store credit on.

Nothing against the op but I'm not really a fan of these style of promotions. Give me a straight up discount any day.

If you were already intended on picking up a fridge this seems like a potential way to go, but is an elaborate way to save yourself some cash over a prolonged period, and you need to commit within the next 9 hours in order to receive the cash back from Samsung…

    • That figure makes it about the same price as the inverter 550 litre Panasonic, which uses 463 kW/hrs per annum compared to the 640 kW/hrs per annum of this fridge.

  • Do we need to connect this fridge to water main in order to use the ice dispenser?

  • +1

The energy consumption for this fridge is rated at 640 kW/hrs per annum according to http://www.energyrating.gov.au

That's not bad, but it's not sensational. Largely due to the French doors, as they don't seal as well as a regular single door.

As a rule of thumb for efficiency, try and get the annual kW usage as close as possible to the litre size.

For instance, our inverter Panasonic is 550 litres and uses 463 per year. That's better than 1:1.

Fridges have increased efficiency 40% in past 4 years, if your fridge is 10 years or over, it's stealing money out of your pocket.

  • Too bad….need a fridge but this one is too big to pass through my door (max 800mm unless I remove the door?)

    • The handles aren't on it to start with… I could get it through the door no problem. I just couldn't get it back out when we moved 2 weeks ago! Nearly had to leave it there for the new owner!

      • Sorry what do you mean "handles"? You mean fridge doors?

        • No the physical aluminium handles connected to the doors.. they are separate in the box and you 'click' them into place when you are ready. My assumption is because of the depth, they needed to leave them off to get them through a door.

        • OIC, thanks. Still this fridge measures more than 800mm in both width and depth. Unless fridge doors can be safely removed……

        • Pretty sure it's about 65cm deep without the handles connected.. the do protrude quite a way. don't count on getting the doors off. I couldn't after trying for 2 hours.

  • I was going to buy this fridge but didnt as its a deep fridge

  • Be careful about this fridge. It doesn't come out too well on www.productreview.com.au.
And if you're serious about saving money, you'll think about the long term and in that area this fridge is expensive as it is very poor in energy efficiency. In terms of kwh/yr/Litre (i.e., energy use per litre of volume), it works out at around 1.1. An efficient fridge of that size should have a rating under 1. Hence the 2 star rating.

    • It's actually worse than 1:1 - 579/640. :)

  • +1

You can get more than $250 off these fridges from any store if you haggle. There is a massive markup on them. No need to worry about store credits. I recently bought the Samsung SRF801GDLS for $2550 delivered, after Samsung cash back that's $1950. RRP is $5000, regular floor price is $3000 odd.

    • I was about to buy this today and te best price I got was $2700 plus delivery. But it turns out that it is too deep to get through my kitchen entrance only 70cm wide. :(

After store credit and Samsung rebate it would have come down to $1850. In the end I had to pass because it just wouldn't fit.

    • Where abouts did you get that price on the SRF801GDLS if you dont mind me asking.

      • I bought it during a special sale from Domayne. If you have a glass sliding door, the door and the panel come off easily to fit the fridge through.

I have a problem with the fridge though. It's not holding temperature properly and fluctuates even when not defrosting. Freezer set for -19 and fluctuates -10 -25. Fridge set for 1 and fluctuates 3 to 7.5. ISO temps should be <-18 and <5 plus a couple of degrees when defrosting.

  • Thats a pretty good deal. Do you mind sharing where you purchased from? Receipt?
    Cheers.

  • Thanks op (I think) I didn't really NEED a new fridge, but as my teenage daughter would say…YOLO

  • Unfortunately they're not great fridges and I wouldn't recommend them. We bought one a little over two years ago and have had a number of issues. After 3 months water was pooling at the bottom of the fridge, and the water dispenser needed fixing. They helpfully replaced the fridge. 12 months later we had the same problem with water again pooling at the bottom of the fridge. Again they repaired it. Then last month the springs on the door broke so that it wouldn't close properly. Again thankfully they have fixed it just out of warranty . I'm now waiting for the next problem to occur, and this time I'll be up for the repair.

    • I'm now waiting for the next problem to occur, and this time I'll be up for the repair.

Fridges aren't a disposable item …they should last 5-10 years or more.
If you have any more major or recurring problems, use your consumer rights…
      http://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees/…

      • Fridges aren't a disposable item … They are when the samsung badge is on it. How do I know, I own a premium model. There is no support one and a half months after the warranty ends and believe me, I argued against that. The consumer laws like everything in australia is solidly built on a base of bullshit.

Consumer affairs is a toothless tiger just like all of them gov departments.

REALLY? I find the ombudsmans are awesome.

    • When researching I found the Samsung RS series had a design flaw where it would ice up and the fan hit the ice. Possible that ice melts inside the fridge.

Suggest when researching to find the USA equivalent model and search on that model number too.

  • I was going to buy this fridge, but after reading the comments and realized the cashback from samsung is no longer valid I changed my mind ;) probably now looking into the inventor type ones they seem to be much more energy efficient
