Dremel Saw Max $97.90 @ Bunnings RRP $179 - Massive Discount!

500

RRP $179 and currently sells for $149 at Masters and seen at 2 Bunnings stores for $97.90 (cheaper than Amazon!) Should be all stores. Not found on Bunnings website.

Comes with 4 different blades in the kit for cutting everything from PVC, wood, steel, tiles and even concrete.

I saw this when shopping for the 2 Ozito specials at Bunnings, but I think this will be more versatile for my use.

Dremel Multi-Max for $79 is probably a good deal too (left of photo)

  • Nice. Much better than what I was looking at…
    http://www.masters.com.au/product/100498416/909-600w-mini-pl…

  • My quick mental calculations makes the discount about 45%.
Sure, that's a good discount but is it really a massive discount?

    • Massive Discount**

      (**For a Dremel product)

  • worth getting seeing as everyone bought an ozito multifunction tool?
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114257

    • +2

Well tool is American made. I think they are quite well made. I would say it is a lot better then the Ozito.

      • I am going to return my $69 Ozito twin blade. I already have the Bosch Multi tool but bought the $29 Ozito just for some spare blades.

But if you are after a Multi function tool, Bunnings also had the Dremel Multi-Max for $79. This would be a lot better than the Ozito deal. And also a bargain as Masters sells it for a lot more.

        • +1

I have the Bosch multi tool too. Needed some sanding sheets for it, and realised they cost $7 for 5 sheets. The ozito multi tool came with 15 sheets. So I purchased the ozito for $29.

        • Do keep in mind it's not a fair comparison.

          1. the Dremel Multi-Max is cordless and has a 2 year warranty - so once the battery dies you'll need to buy another one.

          2. The Ozito is corded and have a 3 year warranty so here's hoping it will remain good for the next 3 years.

          3. Accessories.

Either way, Dremel is quality name product. Might go take a lookee.

        • Not sure if the Dremel Multi-Max for $79 is the corded or cordless version.

        • +1

I bought one today from Prospect SA for $79.

It's corded, has 2 year warranty, and takes generic disks (if that's what you call them). There's the generic adapter included.

        • I have both the cordless and corded Bosch version. Having used both, I think the corded is the way to go. Dremel would be a quality unit.

  • Which one is more useful between this and twin blade saw?

    • Depends on usage and material thickness.
Dremel depth of cut is 20mm, twin blade 28mm.

I bought the twin blade yesterday and it weighs a tonne. Not sure how much I will use the twin blade and am now thinking of returning it.

This Dremel tool looks a lot more versitile

      • What is the difference between this dremel and say a grinder?

        • The Dremel would be easier to control and more accurate.

        • I want something safe to use. I have heard so many horror stories with angle grinders. I am looking at the twin cutters atm.

        • For most jobs, the Dremel would be safer than an angle grinder or twin blade.

  • I have a Makita grinder with various cutting blades. I wonder what can this thing do that you can't do with a grinder?

    • I also have the same. This would have better control. Also better for cutting plywood and plaster as the depth of cut easily controlled.

Grinder would have the advantage for deaper cuts, this would be better for controlled shallow cuts up to 20mm deep.

    • If your even remotely capable of handling an angle grinder, then it wouldn't serve much purpose to you! Especially if you've also got a circular saw!

      • I disagree. This also replaces a large circular saw for cutting sheets of ply and is even better than a multi tool for making long cuts in plaster.

Really, there is a use for both. For most jobs a bigger angle grinder or circular saw could do the job, but this would be easier and better to use and generally be more accurate.

I already have a collection of larger tools and I already own one of these… http://www.masters.com.au/product/100457817/worx-400w-plunge… I find it a very useful tool. I think the Dremel will be even more versitile.

        • Sorry, not saying it wouldn't be useful. I shouldv'e said that you'd have to weigh up it's worth for the extra $100 above what he already has.
edit: $#!t, how small is that Worx circular… 85mm!

        • The Dremel is only 76mm. Good thing is you can make thin clean cuts.

I have found my Worx 85mm so useful, I have now bought the Dremel.
(The Dremel would replace the Worx, as it can do everything and more, especially with the 4 blades)

Depends how much work you do, a man can never have too many tools.

        • That little plunge circular doesn't look too bad. I find I end up making do with what I've got at the time, then go out looking for the tool I should've used afterwards!
I agree with the "can never have too many tools"… Although the Mrs thinks differently, and my neighbour/builder keeps telling me just to borrow from him!

        • I try to make do with what i got. After doing a lot of renovating and building, my wife now lets me buy what i need. (May not exactly tell her what I spent though)

These small tools are great, but as the large tools are more popular, the small special tools are the ones that you can not usually borrow from the neighbor.

  • Blades look expensive. Can it take generic wheels?

  • +1

Take the picture to Masters and get it for a further 10% off.

  • +2

massive discount it IS - it's almost cut in half !

  • Thanks OP this deal prompted me to go down to bunnings but I ended up with the ozito lithium cordless multi tool and drill pack for $75 instead. Was told by the tool shop guy that the dremels all only take special sized bits and wheels which was a deal breaker for me.

    • Good thing is the Dremel has quality wheels and available from Amazon. I am returning my Ozito Twin Blade as blades will be an issue for it in the long run.

      • I don't think you can fairly compare this to the Twin Blade/contra saw/dual saw, they are totally different. I love my dual saw (I have the one from miter 10, I think it was called a contra saw), and it can't be replaced by an angle grinder. I do agree with you tho on the blades, luckily I haven't needed to replace them yet and have cut through sheet metal, notched some stainless steel brackets and gone through too many nails to count.

Just picked one up at Masters for $88 with the price guarantee :)

  • I was wondering if someone could help me out. Dropped into my local Bunnings to pick one up, but they scanned the Saw Max at $128. Said they couldn't match it as the date code (bottom right) on the original photo was a bit blurry, so they couldn't verify it. Any chance of a copy of a receipt/or which Bunning's stores have these at this price (she said if I knew the store name she could do it!). Thanks

    • Northland/Preston Vic is where the photo is from. Thomastown Vic also had the same price.

  • ^*%@ right-handed tools!!

    • Beats me how that ended up being in bold! lol

Just wanted to finish the saga. When I went back, the lady said that she contacted the merchandise(?) department, who advised the special is only in areas where there is a Masters competing - she said Masters were selling it for $98 (maybe only certain Masters were selling it on special?). They still agreed on giving me the price as a one off. The moral of the story - Not all Bunnings may have the same prices!

        • Not all Bunnings may have the same prices!

True, it's quite often up to the dept manager to set the price on clearances!

        • Interestingly, the Masters next to the stores I saw the special at were selling for $149.

      • +1

        stay away from the #hash

        • Unless it is in yummy hash cookies!

  • Masters - $149 is the SM201-01 model
Bunnings - $97.90 for the same model
ask for the price guarantee - 10% off $97.90 - as this item is not a clearance item

NIL left at Masters Northlands - Preston

Just bought one from Underwood (QLD) Bunnings. Plenty stock left. Their sticker price was $128, although they scan at $97.70. The lady seemed pissed the moment I mentioned the special price. She thought I was after price-matching. She then acted pissed all the way as if that's her everyday mood. Not sure why "our friendly team member" is so against price-matching.

    • +1

Also on sale at bunnings carseldine for $97.90 with pricematch at Masters North Lakes for ~88.
Plenty of stock left at both stores.

  • +1

Just bought one at Masters Northland for $88. Really not sure when I am gonna use it but just buy it :)

    • I like your style. One day this bargain will be very useful i am sure!

  • Bunnings at Macgregor, Brisbane had 5 on the shelf this morning - scanned at this price

  • +1

Thanks OP! Picked it up at Carseldine (QLD) for 90c less ($97). Heaps of stock left.

  • +3

Thanks OP! Just picked one up from masters for $78. They price matched the bunnings price, beat it by 10% and took off another 10% due to their fathers day special. (10% off on all purchases over $50). Smiles all round.

Damn. That was a crazy good deal.

      worthy of a + then? :)

    • +1

I managed to do the same. Makes a good deal even better.

  • Anyone in WA been able to get Bunnings to sell for $97? My local at Bunbury has the item scanning at $128. No local Masters either. DOh!

    • Bunnings Malaga sells them at $97.

    • Have you tried showing them the photo?

      • yeah showed them the photo from main post and they said that this was probably a promotion price in select stores. Was thinking I might show copy of Masters receipt and try to get price matched instead.

  • Anyone in SA got one for $97? Where?

  • Anyone got this deal in NSW? I was at the Bunnings on Frenchman's Road near Randwick, and they had it at $129 or something and wouldn't sell it to me for $97.

  • +1

These clamp on cutting guides are cheap and really handy to pair with these small handheld saws or regular circular saws:
    http://www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-50-aluminium-clamp-and…

Great for cutting down sheet stock. Just wish they sold a 600mm version, would be a bit easier to manage on smaller jobs.

Not sure why they're sold as 50" on the website, label on mine only mentions 1200mm: http://i43.tinypic.com/2nh2cn9.jpg

  • Looks like the deal has finished, just called the Northland/Preston Victoria and Malaga, WA stores and they're back up to $128. Must've been a Father's day special
