  • Crap phone…

But OH SO CHEAP! As well as VERY good value for the price point. The performance is definately useable!

    (I use one…)

    • I use one too, but I dropped it from quite a height. Still works but is cracked and freezes up a lot.
Still - for the price I do think it's good.

  • Is it worth paying $40 extra for the g300+ ?

    • I'd be inclined to look at the Y300 as well

    • I just did exactly that.
Bought the G300+ for $79 including free shipping.
Already got the Y201 from the last deal but the wife wanted it.

  • What's this about rooting the phone. I don't think you'd want to screw up the phone.

    • +2

on the plus side though, later on you'd have some little Mini's floating around

Bought 2 of these when first released.
    Good little thrashies.

Amazing how cheap Android phones have become.

    • It's a race to the bottom

  • Grabbed this deal last time around…great phone for the price :)

I have installed CM10 and the phone becomes unlocked automatically. It runs pretty smoothly afterward.

Is there a great need to root and install CM10?

The ICS version installed runs nicely, and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of bloatware (and it only costs $5.50 to unlock with Bagman).

The stock ROM runs fine but with cm10, it runs even faster and smoother and most importantly no Telstra boot up logo XD.

  • how does cm10 run on this phone? i've been meaning to try

    • Few apps (from google playstore) won't run. Also battery drains much faster with CM10. My bluetooth keyboard also doesn't work with CM10 (never work on any phone or tablet I've tried with CM10).
I tried CM10 as few people said positive things about CM10 with this phone, but I've since gone back to stock ROM.

  • This is something even worse than Samsung prepaid "smartphones"

    • Really? I seriously prefer the Huawei, X1 was crap… X3 was… meh… now they are actually coming ahead in leaps and bounds!

  • My brother's Y201 is stuck on Telstra logo and won't boot. Haven't found a way to fix it and he doesn't have the receipt anymore. The phone itself was really laggy though on 4 whereas my LG p690 which has lower specs felt more smooth, though only on 2.3. For a cheap phone though it at least has enough internal storage and ram (compared to mine which is suffering from lack of internal storage).
Also is this phone meant to come with a microSD because my brother didn't have 1…

    • I'd be inclined to try to load some new firmware on it, sounds like it might of gotten corrupted

    • it comes with a microSD slot not a card itself.

  • Good phone for the money. Still have mine from last deal. Is it upgradable to Jelly Bean?

If you have flybuys check your flybuys christmas vouchers for the offer. $39 and 1500 points.

+1 just got this today too

    • Check carefully. One of my accounts gives 1500 points the other doesnt even list it.

I bought one of these awhile back to use as hotspot. Working well, but a few more random reboots than I was hoping for.
Just a few days ago bought a Y300 (dual-core Telstra version) as a backup/out of curiosity. Got lucky on Ebay - $78 without any need to purchase a voucher I didn't want. Still waiting for an unlock to come through from Bagman.

    A few very early impressions:
Bigger, but all-around better and sharper screen than the Y201. Considerably better capacitive response. Jellybean onboard instead of ICS. Worthwhile jump in processor speed. Ironically, slightly lower internal storage. Potentially limiting RAM on both (512MB).
Even with 5MP compared to 3, both have crapulent cameras. (Y300 does have an extra-crapulent front facer + rear flash.)

I won't go on, but frankly the better screen touch-response alone justifies the extra dosh, if you can swing for it.

    • I wondered who snatched that bargain…

        Sorry 'bout that….

  • will this work on an Aldi sim without unlocking ?

    • Yes.

If you received a letter in the last week from flybuys, chances are it has a coupon for a y201 for $39 + 1500 flybuys. I did

  • if I bought 2 phones with coupon, can I get 2 x 1500 point?

    • the coupon can only be used once I believe.
