This appears to be available only to cards issued by American Express directly. Not Bank issued cards.

    • -5

I don't see the point of bank issued credit cards. High fees, high interest rates, no "bonus offers" like this.

      • Bank issued American Express cards.
They do have bonus offers. e.g. Small Business promotion 5x$10 back
We don't pay any fees for ours and we don't pay the high interest rate.

        • I dont pay a cent for my bank issued amex.

      • Not all places accept AMEX and some merchant have surcharges when using AMEX.

Secondly, AMEX cards issued by the bank are generally tagged along with Mastercard or Visa card and are issued for free, giving you the best of both worlds of getting the higher points when available, or reverting to the Mastercard or Visa charge when surcharges apply to the AMEX.

      • My CBA bank issued card is joined to my Mastercard account, which makes managing funds easier (one account to deal with). Additionally the Amex card earns me additional points to the Mastercard, so there is a benefit to me using it over the Mastercard. CBA also doesn't charge me any extra to have the second card.

Ultimately there is no disadvantage to having the bank issued card. Even if I had an Amex issued Amex card, it still may be worthwhile having the bank issued one as well. Given how many places do not accept Amex or place a surcharge on its use, I'd always want the Mastercard anyway.

    • "Supplementary Cards and Bank Issued Cards qualify as an Eligible Card only if they register for the offer separately at amexconnect.com.au"

      • And if anyone has a link to this offer on that site then please share it.

      • +1

I found a link for this deal from the Bank Issued cards site
        https://www.amexconnect.com.au/Offers/873/Spend-50-on-Westfi…
However, I can't remain logged in and navigate to this page. Navigation to this page seems to effectively log me out.
I've tried with IE and Firefox. Firefox is also giving me a "Content Encoding Error
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression."
Does it work for anyone else?

        • This is still not working, despite a similar problem being resolved with the David Jones offer.

        • Hi roughana, your link of DJ spend $250 get $50 back is working now. I just register the bank issue card and the sub card.
Can you tell me how you "discover" the link?
          You are brilliant!!!!! Thanks~~~

  • +4

    thanks

just a heads up, you can purchase XS by Westfield Gift Cards that can be used anywhere that accepts eftpos which is an added bonus

    Also , payable at checkout

    • service fee for westfield cards $2.95
    • service fee for XS westfield cards $4.95
    • any way of avoiding the $4.95 service fee on the XS cards?

  • +1

In true OZb form - it seems as though purchasing these online incur a $2.95 service charge, is that right? So I'm better off buying one from the concierge instead? That $2.95 is something I could buy from Meritline in the future!

    • +2

ranma, i believe they charge $2.95 even in person

      • Oh wow - no way. Does anyone definitely know this? I thought it was only an online service fee (which now that I think about it, doesn't make sense.. they would charge more for getting it in person since they pay somoene to sit there, than online).

        • Bought at the concierge today, was still charged the service fee. Was told that it is "so we can replace the card if it is lost or stolen"

Received near-instant e-mail from AmEx confirming that I'd earned a statement credit, though.

    • Maybe make your card value $47.05 + $2.95 service charge = $50

      • +1

Pretty risky move to "save" $2.95 as you are paying it no matter what.

The promo might mean 'spend $50 on gift cards and receive a $10 credit'.

        • maybe someone can try if they intend to buy one :p

although it should work because it would appear as $50 charged to your card

        • +3

          Works!

  • Buying the XS card effectively give you a free $5.05 to burn, not sure is it worth the effort.

  • +3

$3 issue fee so only $7 profit. But it can be used at Woolworths for a 14% saving after fees.

    • can this gift card be used in every Woolworths store, or only the Woolworths in Westfield?

      • Presumably only Woolworths stores in Westfield.

        • As I remember Woolworth does not accept the Westfield cards … (even not when they are at Westfield …) Not all retailers at Westfield accept them.

        • +1

Woolworths now accepts them. I used a Westfield gift card there last month.

It's Coles who no longer accepts them now.

        • +1

          It's on the website

The Westfield Gift Card is the perfect gift as it’s accepted at 8,000 participating stores in Westfield Shopping Centres nationwide. Retailers include Woolworths Group, David Jones, JB Hi-Fi, Target, Kmart and Rebel Sport. They’re easy to use and make the ideal gift.

    • i am in awe - how do you work out the 14% savings?

  • +2

$2.95 Service fee kills this deal

  • +2

i think you still have to pay $2.95 when you buy from the concierge.

    • +2

Just purchased a $50 gift card from the concierge, a $2.95 fee applies.

      • +1

Me too. Just bought one from Westfield Sydney CBD. Extra fee charged.
But I received a Swarovski Aura 5ml perfume mini for free. I personally has this perfume in full size. Lover it! The mini is pretty cute, with a diamond crystal on the top if the bottle.

  • +5

So they want us to pay them to give them my money. This is ridiculous!!!!

Do some research, a decent percentage of money put onto gift cards is never redeemed, so they're already taking the piss by putting expiry dates etc.. on these sorts of cards, this just takes the cake.

    • +4

"a decent percentage of money put onto gift cards is never redeemed"

Which is why they do it….but this statistic also has no impact on those people that do use it all.

    • Normally it would be ridiculous but amex is giving us more than 3 times the service fee so Im in.

I can sort of understand Westfield having to charge a service fee, it can't be cheap or easy to get all those retailers to accept there giftcard. Not that I would ever buy one if it wasn't discounted like it is today.

      • Please explain why you pay $2 more "service fee" for the XS card then. Is it nearly twice as hard to 'prepare'?

        • Its an eftpos card, who knows what eftpos charge.

      • Nobody's forcing Westfield to do it. They gain by:
        - getting extra revenue from the sales from merchants in their store
        - the residual amounts left over that go unused e.g. $0.87 left on the card, a fair few will just toss it
        - amounts that are not redeemed when the cards are e.g. lost or just not used before expiry

        • +8

          I redeemed $0.03 from a Coles gift card I found once :P

        • -2

and nobody's forcing you to buy one

          • the residual amounts left over that go unused e.g. $0.87 left on the card, a fair few will just toss it

that's sad. have they never heard of split payments?

        • In my experience most retailers at Westfield won't (or say they can't) do them.

Have only found a few at Westfield who do.

        • I've only used a Westfield card once or twice. Both came from reward programs so I never paid any surcharge on them. I do remember it was difficult to find a trader at Westfield who would put in a tiny amount in order to get rid of the last few dollars on the card. I eventually got all the credit on the card used up.

The smallest amount I ever used on a gift card was 16 cents which is what I had left on one of my Wish cards bought at 5% off at RACV

I just tried FREESHIP code on westfield website for a $50 card and it came up with "Promo code is not valid"

    • My too. Paying $60.90 for a $50 XS card doesn't seem like good value.

    • +4

code is FREEPOST as per their website flash thing.

    • Sorry have updated the code and description

      • +3

Thanks, just ordered one successfully. $7 off $50 still works out pretty well for me

        • Also just got the email from Amex for $10 credit

  • It's FREEPOST Got one, thanks OP

  • Just got a XS card for $45.05. Total was $50.

Free $5.05 for fuel will last me ~135kms

    • Let us know if you get the Amex cashback.

      • +2

I got it. Got email saying:

Your $10 credit back for spending over $50 on Westfield Gift Cards will be issued to your registered Card account.

    • Sorry, what did you mean by this?

"Free $5.05 for fuel will last me ~135kms"

      • I ride a motorbike to and from work.
        1L petrol = 27km :D

$5.05 free can be used at Caltex due to the Westfield XS card

    • Wow Turd, what car do you drive that is so fuel efficient:
$5.05 = 3.2 litres of petrol to do 135km, works out to 2.4 L/100 km.
      Even a Prius can't do that…
Possible that you may have miscalculated? Or do you ride a very small engined motorbike ?

      • He wrote motorbike not car :)

        • Yep just saw that, obviously past my bed time! That is pretty economical even for a motorbike, my Honda CBR-250RR used to struggle to get below 5 l/100km, but I rode that thing pretty hard ;)

  • "Bank Issued Cards qualify as an Eligible Card only if they register for the offer separately at amexconnect.com.au"

Anyone know whre to find this? Cant find the deal anywhere on amexconnect >_<

  • so is this good deal or not? im confuse

    • +1

Yeah it is a good deal. You can save money!

    • good if you have a Westfield nearby

  • I also can't find the deal on amexconnect? can anyone else advise what to do with a bank issued amex?

    • Try and apply for a AMEX AMEX?

These are only for AMEX Online members

  • noob question - can I use these giftcards at a BigW that's located in a Westfield shopping centre?

    • +1

I asked the receptionist at the westfield concierge desk and she said "except for Myers and Coles" you can use it for every other store inside Westfields.

So I would say, yes you can.

  • It kept asking me to re-validate the promo code when using firefox so I couldn't complete checkout.

    Worked fine in Internet explorer.

    Cheers OP!

  • Thanks! :)

  • what are our chances to this happening again: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/87541. I might buy it the last day before the deal expire, just in case we get lucky.

  • Do they limit 1 gift card per Amex card? or we can just buy as many as we want? Westfield gift cards are accepted at JB Hifi so anyone interested in this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/125569 can consider.

    • "to receive one $10 statement credit."

  • Stupid question, I'm trying to register a bank issued Amex, it only requires me to enter email and postcode. Not my card number, does anyone know where to enter it? many thanks.

  • +1

confirmed $2.95 issue fee even when buying the card in person at Westfield.

  • +2

If not for this deal I don't know why anyone in their right mind would paid in advance for credit that expires and have to pay $3 for that privilege.

    • Some people do it for insurance. I think some westfield cards can be replaced if they are lost.

    • +1

Lots of choice for the person you gift it to as an alternative to cash

  • has anyone with a Bank Issued amex card been successful registering yet?
can you still earn velocity points? are there any cash back websites that you can go via?
can you buy a 100$ card and pay with two amex cards to save on the fee?

  • +7

asked the amex support, they provided this link, good luck

*** for bank issued amex *****
    https://enroll.amexnetwork.com/AU/en/westfield/

tested myself, credit confirmation received after buying.. instantly..

    • thanks for the link, just registered!

    • Thanks qkfang. I registered with both Supplementary Cards and Bank Issued Card with no problem.
I made a new post with the info you provide:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/125721

      CREDIT TO you :)

      • +1

        yeah no problems. :)

  • If I buy 2 x $50 gift cards, do I get 2x$10 back?

    • +1

Only if you use two different Amex Cards.

  • The FREEPOST promo code is not working for me today.

    • Worked for me on my phone, but not on the work computer. I'm guessing IP-based, so maybe try again on the phone?

  • +1

Can confirm the FREEPOST coupon works on the mobile phone website (the mobile website is web.westfieldgiftcards.com.au but doesn't work from PC)

  • Does the Westfield gift card work at Woolies? I can see Coles and Myer don't accept it.. posted in the other deal too :)

    edit: Found the answer here

  • did anyone one got the AMEX cash back? I got the DJ, Event cinemas and liquorland cash back but not this one.
