hmm.. I've got $30 +$10 jb hifi gift card. should i buy this to convert it into cash?

    • Good thinking… I have a $20 JB gift card I don't know what to get with.

    • $10 profit if we use those gift cards. 6-10 weeks to get the check tho

  • +1

we need this back .. $15 profit

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/109242

Earned $150 from that deal .. thanks JB

  • +2

sadly they only allow you to claim 1 per person, I was about to buy a million

    • +19

You have 39 million in your bank and you were looking for a $1 profit per copy?

      • +1

why not, it's 1 million dollar for free

        • +6

You could build a house from the Norton's boxes.

        • You would get a better return from a bank account, and it would be less annoying.

        • +11

actually you wouldn't :) i know it's hypothetical but let's say the rebate takes 1 month to be processed. 1 million for 39 million is slightly more than 2.5% return. that's equal to 30% annual interest rate which is unheard of

        • +11

silverx, you magnificent bastard, you did it!

        • for someone with 39 million, and still keeping it in a bank to earn interest, isn't very real to begin with ;)

        • +1

True, many people didn't realise the interest rate is based on annual returns, that's why some even argue ING 5% rebate is no better than sitting their money in the offset account of the home loan.

        • in the spirit of having a bit of fun,
let's hypothetically say it needs 1 second to do INGDIRECT paywave for 2 copies, then in 6 days we will manage to wave all 1m items, and gain $1.95m of $39m in 6 days, which equates to 300% pa interest? :p

        • Uh.. how does $1.95m return on a $39m investment = 300% return? :|

        • 2.5% return for say 2 months investment (ie waiting for the cashback)
multiply by six for you annual interest 'rate comparison'
          =15%

    • +3

a limit of 3 per household.. so you (and members of your family) can collectively make $3 profit =)

      • +2

you're not seeing the bigger picture here

this is an awesome deal because it essentially allows you to withdraw money from your gift cards, gift cards that may not have actually cost you $40 :)

all the recent cash back deals are awesome because they essentially allow you to draw down on the gift cards that you purchased at a discount anyway, ie xbox 360 $100 cashback (just use two JB $100 vouchers that cost only $148), or in this case, get $40 back for paying only around $30 in the first place

Free is free, but i've had terrible experiences with Norton… It seems to slow down the system really badly, of course this was in P4 times =\

    • I've been using NIS on a P4 HT 3 Ghz Dell Dimension 3100 running XP SP3 on a maxed out 2 Gb memory (!!) since I bought the system in 2005 and I've never had performance issues. The system has never been compromised by trojans, malware, viruses or any of the other cyber nasties NIS deals with either. I'm a NIS fanboy, I'd take up this deal except that I already have a three year NIS licence running…. If you're on old iron and experiencing slowdowns look at the years of accumulation of started tasks as a probable cause.

    • +6

No one said you have to install it.

      • +2

You do in-order to claim the cash back it require you to install and register.

What you mean to say is, you can uninstall it right after.

      • +3

Actually, with these cashbacks, you do have to install and activate it before a certain time to get the cashback.

@ProjectZero - the old Norton was a resource hog, but for the past few years now, Norton has been one of the better security suites around. It is pretty lean and fast and in my experience, has picked up things other products have missed.

You could buy it with this deal and try it out for free yourself

    • +1

I haven't used it since then either, HOWEVER, I read that they re-built the whole thing a couple years ago and that it's actually quite good and lightweight now! Could have changed, I don't know.

  • My parents use Norton 360 as it's easy and it works well for them. The backup feature works well as well.

  • cool, can extend my phone's norton!

  • Any catches? Should get the $40 back no problems?

  • +1

same price at officeworks if your close by JB is out of stock

I'd want a much larger profit than a dollar to run Norton on my laptop.

  • Using the $20 cash back plus mwave http://www.mwave.com.au/product/symantec-norton-360-multidev…

    Thats 5% profit :)

  • "To make a claim online for a Symantec offer, you must first install and activate your Norton™ product on your computer. If you want to make a claim online, please start by entering the Promotion Code." So you essentially sell your details to Norton for $1 for those who don't want/need Norton… I wonder if this also screws up any multi-buy attempts (depends if they record down the PC's ID or not)

I think that cheque might be hard for you to cash….

  • It takes 6-10 weeks before you get a cheque in the mail

  • +1

Same price at Officeworks…just got it today (after checking here this morning, first and seeing nothing!)

    • Does the one you got from OW has a cash back sticker on it? Just went into the OW near work and I was told by a staff that only the ones with the cash back stickers are eligible and they don't have any of those. (There're 2 copies on the shelf and none of them has that sticker.)

      • mine(bought from jb hifi) doesnt have the cash back sticker.

        • Were you able to claim the cash back?

        • yes of course.

        • wonder if I should have picked up a copy from OW. (I thought at the time that I'd better not risk it since OW was excluded from the last cash back promotion for Norton mobile.) Would be great if someone can confirm that they've been able to claimed with one purchased from OW.

  • +3

Wouldn't install this on my computer even if they paid me too.

  • $3 profit if you use ing paywave !

  • Thanks OP! Good deal!

  • -4

Wrong wrong! Please rectify. Just went to JB. It's $39 after $40 cash back :(

    U pay $79..

    No houses for you!!

  • -3

Ok the JB in QVB is wrong then.. online I bought for $39 too :)

  • Used my $20 westfield gift card bought with the v.me offer … $11 profit :)

  • Nice, this is such a good way of getting rid of my JB gift card i got from coke reward.

  • +1

Just got off Chat with Norton - stacked 3 licenses to give 3 years use.
And 50c profit each & $30 gift card on last JB deal = $31.50 profit! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128090

    • I hope you made the claim using 3 people

      • "using 3 people" - of course, claims submitted. Made $hundreds last year from Norton Cashback Cheques. OzBargain has taught me to "use" people ;-)

        • Did you wait the cheque to arrive before stacking the licenses? did you activate 3 licenses with the same email and claim the cashback with 3 people?

  • Wondering if this has been a pricing error on the JB website because I'm standing in a JB store right now and it's clearly labelled as $39 AFTER the $40 cash back via redemption. Stock is marked at $79.

But hey if the website is actually letting you purchase it for $39 then knock yourselves out.

Just be wary of JB catching the error and cancelling orders.

EDIT: Nevermind, just saw another comment further up saying they actually bought it at JB for $39. Down vote away!

    • -1

Yep.. as I mentioned in JB QVB they have it for $79.. so I bought it online to pick up tomorrow.. fingers crossed..

Someone should mention the JB which are selling for $39 in store. .

  • +1

reserved one for pickup. used all my gift cards. Thanks OP.

  • just bought 1

  • I am here wondering why no one is mentioning price beating at Office Work. Then i realise they are on top of their game matching price of sale to avoid price beat these days.
    Also $39 at Office Work.

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Sof…

This might be more convenience for people living close to Office Work or have Office Work voucher to convert to real cash.

    • Maybe because OW price was posted with link 11 hours back, then 8.5 hours ago…

      • +1

        my bad, missed those comment.

  • Thanks OP I also used a JB gift voucher I needed to be rid of

  • +1

I got it from Good Guys for $39.95 a week or two ago, and got my cheque in the mail recently.

I really installed it, am really using it, and really liking it much to my own surprise. I moved from BitDefender, which I hated, to Norton because of the excellent reviews which talk about how much it has changed from the bad old days. So far, I'm extremely happy with it and would recommend it without hesitation. That's big coming from a long time hater of Norton (see: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/ozbapi/comment/515135).

This deal is hardly new though; almost a dupe of https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128090

    • Also a happy installer/user - from that last OB deal.
      But hardly a dupe… It's 100% more profit/box ;-)
(old deal expired & you got Bonus $30 gift card with 3 bought online with MasterCard).

  • Don't use Norton products. They are useless bloatware difficult to remove completely.See link.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norton_AntiVirus#FBI_cooperatio…

    • semi true, but i want the android norton, which is great :)

  • Love how people hate Norton. That is the reason, I find the products easily on the shelves even when the cash back is on before it is sold out in few hours or few users buying in bulk.

  • Saw this and stopped off at JB on the way home. They didn't have any stock on the shelves but they found a copy out back.

  • anyway to activate without installing?

    • Just intall it on your phone. its Easier

      • Its not in my case, I have 10 licenses of mobile security. Can't force my device to use this license.

  • How to request the redemption? (i.e. check) I know its supposed to be once the installation has been completed? but what after the install?

  • +1

Has this expired as it says $79 on the link? Even the office works link is saying $63.

    • yes, it has.

  • +1

Got my cashback cheque last week.
