McDonald's McFlurry for $1.40

17380

So, being inquisitive and bored, a friend and I decided to see if we can get past the absolutely outrageous price that a McFlurry costs at micca dee's. So, by doing the following, you will get a VERY cheap McFlurry.

Process:
1) Ask for 3x30 cent cones to be put into a McFlurry cup
2) Ask for the topping (e.g. m&ms, oreo etc) of your choice
3) Eat your three thirty cent cones with whatever topping in a mcflurry cup :)

Enjoy, this will save you hundreds of percent of the total cost :)

Quick edit - yes topping (e.g. chocolate sauce or fudge) incurred an extra 50 cents.

  • I remember they used to clip the spoon onto a spinner to mix the McFlurry, hence the spoon has a square shaft and a hook. Do they still do that? Or is it just my local Maccas not doing it?

    • I haven't seen any store doing that for years.

      • +5

Funny, it's called McFlurry because of the spinning. Might as well change the name to McMixItYourself.

But at least you know, it seems some people don't know about the spinning part. :)

        • so that's what it's for…. but then doesn't your hand get dirty when you use it? o_O

    I miss the McDonalds calendars

  • crazy professionals.

Enjoy, this will save you hundreds of percent of the total cost :)

well, if only they'd pay us. sounds like an approximately 70% off though.

    • +1

The way it's stated, the percent refers to the total cost (ie $1.40).

      $4.60-$1.40=$3.20
$3.20/$1.40x100= 229% of the total cost

Although it is 70% off of the original RRP

      • Pfft who pays RRP for Mcers. Not cheezal

  • +1

I haven't actually tried to get this, but a big well done to you OP for getting it yourself. I usually get my 3 McChicken Patties and a large tap water if I go, but I know what I'll be doing next time lol

  • +21

Thanks OP. Any ideas on how I can make a Big Mac with only a small fries, an apple pie and a chicken mcnugget?

  • +2

Clever and cheeky idea, amusing post to read, but I wouldn't try it myself.

Still. +1 for frugalicious life hack lol.

  • +8

Surely this must be an Ozbargain record for the quickest number of up votes - 2.7 votes per minutes.

  • +4

Try asking for some free "Aussie Beetroot" to be thrown in because it's Australia Day Weekend! McBeetFlurry!

(Incidentally in NZ McDonalds call it the New Zealand slice of Beetroot. What's with patriotism when it comes to the 'ol purple beet?)

    • +8

Are you pregnant? That's a strange combo

      • +2

Would you like fries with that?

      • +1

Stranger ice cream flavours have been known to exist… especially overseas.

Blue Stilton ice cream, anyone? mmm

  • add another 30 cents and you'll get you a supersized McFlurry! :D lol

  • +2

Am I the only one who likes the soft serve as is?

Btw, the waffle corn seems to be a rip off as well. 1.70 for a waffle corn.

    • +4

Is it a flattened corn on the cob or corn kernels mashed together and cooked in a waffle press?

      • waffle *cone.

  • Well this is probably why America charge $1 for soft serve cone…. yes I was in LA last year…. You get a sundae for a $1.50 with bonus nuts to sprinkle on yourself.

  • Scotty, how'd we get banned last time? ;) :P

    • Maccas' logo in the thumbnail -> copyright infringement they claimed. Maybe not giving their new consult ideas…

Take a sundae of Hungry Jack $5 Stunner deal to maccas and ask for 50 cents toppings.

  • +1

I'm surprised your car has traction control

    • Not my car - I drive a 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer, which definitely has traction control.

  • +2

You could go one step further and save more.
Last time we went to mac as as a family, we did the single cone in a mcflurry lid and I happened to have a pack of m&ms picked up at coles for 99cents (they're often this price) , sprinkled some on all four of icecreams and saved 25cents each on the mixer. Still had some m&ms left over too, but not sure how much they normally put on.

Just needs some pre planning but a good way to save.

    • +3

I can imagine having your icecream in a McFlurry lid could get quite messy.

      • +1

Yeah lol, I guess it was a sundae lid.
We just asked for the 30 cent i/c's to be not in a cone and got whatever they gave us.

  • +1

    Bargain of the year nominee!

  • almost 500 votes up. Well done !!!!!

  • +1 for above 500 vote.. :D

  • +2

This is possibly the best deal to come onto Ozbargain, trumps the discount vasectomy. A trophy is definitely in order. On another note if you order a Big Mac and replace the meat with chicken it works out to be cheaper source: family member worked at maccas.

    • Awesome.

We are going to need a separate thread for all these maccas tips that have come up through the thread ;)

    • Really? I don't think so, I've tried this twice and both times the Big Mac Chicken came out more expensive. They minus the beef patties (which doesn't deduct jackall) and then add the chicken patties for 1.60 each I think it was.

  • Also check out the Ghetto Big Mac http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QO6Bq4lQRZ4

  • sweet deal.

  • Wow tightarse award for sure love it thanks for the laugh

  • Good to see I wasn't the only one with the idea :).

I ask for a cup of water to put it into though.

  • you can also get FREE water with ICE!!

  • Can't wait for one of the after nightly news program to feature this deal. Boys and girls we're going to be famous!

Melbourne Central's not selling ice cream and milkshakes tonight, "out of order".

    • +1

      They're onto us!

    • That's my local Maccas at work, and they've had that sign up for about 2 weeks now (so I have to go all the way downstairs to the station.)

  • +2

Could any mod coordinate this as an Australia Day ozbargain activity. Australia wide, ozbargainera hitting Maccas for a 1.40 MC flurry

  • +14

I just did this. I casually ordered 3 soft serves, then asked if it was OK to put them into a cup, then asked for a shot of Oreo on top. The girl serving didn't even bat an eyelid. $1.40 goodness.

    • Quick. Which Maccas?

      • +3

Wollongong. My normal order is a soft serve in a lid with chocolate sauce on top (80c). I don't feel as though this is too much of a stretch further.

        • Don't the lids have holes in them?

        • Not the Sundae ones. The old McFlurrys did.

  • OP… you sir are a Genius! my vote for PM.

  • +15

This could be the post that broke Ozbargain if it gets more than 999 recs.

Pretty soon we won't need to describe what we want at Maccas and just ask for the McOzbargain.

This is what happens when you neg a guy's jokes over and over.

    • +3

And this is why we cant have nice things… Or $1.40 McFlurries…

    • -1

I don't see a problem. McD have the 30c cone for PR and to bring people in, they don't really make money from one.

If you buy 3 plus topping all of a sudden your usual 30c spend is $1.70. Those in the loop know the real cost in oz is labour, the ice cream itself is probably worth 10c so they are likely making more off you than for a few cones.

Sure, it's still cheaper than a mcflurry which I got totally ripped on and would never buy again.

  • +3

Scotty, are the systems ready for 4 digit upvoting?

    • +2

I'll give it everything she's got, but I canna make any promises!

  • Might try this when slikstick Jnr has his next shift.
Half price for workers = $0.70 mcflurry

  • This is so obvious but genius all at once.
