McDonald's McFlurry for $1.40

17380

So, being inquisitive and bored, a friend and I decided to see if we can get past the absolutely outrageous price that a McFlurry costs at micca dee's. So, by doing the following, you will get a VERY cheap McFlurry.

Process:
1) Ask for 3x30 cent cones to be put into a McFlurry cup
2) Ask for the topping (e.g. m&ms, oreo etc) of your choice
3) Eat your three thirty cent cones with whatever topping in a mcflurry cup :)

Enjoy, this will save you hundreds of percent of the total cost :)

Quick edit - yes topping (e.g. chocolate sauce or fudge) incurred an extra 50 cents.

    • This is good

Most popular deal ever posted in Ozb

      • note that in terms of clicks, it will be hard to beat the 37k+ of the ms office deal :)

    • I wonder why www.ozbargain.com.au/node/122485 (Telstra's free calls to Philippines) is omitted from the stats?

      • +1

Because it had to beat the Microsoft record of 894

As scotty made it in order for the old deals to still be 'at the top' due to the number of members back then

        i.e.

23 votes in 2007 was huge; whereas now, its just an average deal

  • Thanks OP, this is just brilliant……..

Ordered an m&m's to be put inside the MC Flurry cup and 3 soft cone ice cream, voila….. $1.40 + 3 empty cones.
The look of people eyes beside my table is priceless.

Next time, I will bring my own m&m's. Lol……

  • Woohoo got it on 888 votes!! haha

  • Congratulations on the new record!!

    • Congrats!!!
Is it going to hit over 1000?

  • Holy crap 904 to 905 now votes for Mcflurry…looks like I have to try one too :)

Which one has outstanding sphincter control and who is just cheap?

    • OK.

    • +2

Yet you upvoted the baa deal too…

  • Whoa! 900+ votes! This might be a new record! Anything higher before?

Also wonder how long till mccas change their condition. After losing money..

    • What is there to change? This is just getting soft serves and extra toppings and mixing them together. The only thing they can change is increasing the price of a soft serve cone.

  • +2

Come to think of it, this deal is actually "McDonald's McFlurry and 3 Cones for $1.40".

  • lmao this is legendary!

  • Has anyone been able to buy a bag of their chocolate sauce ? I could just eat that on its own! (Not in one sitting!)

    • +2

A girlfriend in High school stole a bag of chocolate sauce, so sickening.

      • +1

I'd let her go too if she did that :S

    • +1

Have you asked the manager? They might let you buy one.

MasterNoob had sort of the same idea in November if only he would have posted it. See last comment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/122517

    • For me my vote wasn't so much the idea but the execution. But props to MasterNoob too.

  • If the media gets hold of this, it's NOT going to look pretty!

  • give that man a cookie!

  • While it's nice to share, doing so will mean they will change the rules and your deal will be worthless. Shame really.

    • +1

Nah… they'd love the publicity & change nothing.

    • Why would McDonald's stop selling soft serve cones?

      • -1

Don't be daft. If they thought this important enough to disallow, they would just refuse sale of 'custom McFlurries'.

        • I don't think you understand how this works. When you order these you are ordering soft serve cones. After that you're just combining them together. There's nothing stopping you from doing whatever you want with your food once you've ordered and paid for it. It's not like the McDonald's staff will jump over the counter and ban you from mixing your cones and toppings together.

        • -1

You don't think they'll realise that you're working their system, when you're blatantly ordering the ingredients of a McFlurry, in McFlurry packaging? The regular crew won't give a crap, but management might not take too kindly to you cutting into their profits. They don't have to jump over the country if they refuse the order in the first place.

        • +1

They're not going to refuse people from ordering soft serves. Don't be stupid.

        • If those soft serves are completely obvious replicas of higher priced items, they might.

        • +1

Not going to happen. In fact they're making more money when you order it with this method because you're giving up the cone which they can then use for another customer.

        • The McFlurry packaging you're using instead isn't free, and you're obviously ignoring the lost profits that would've been made on an actual McFlurry sale.

        • +1

What lost profit? The people ordering this are never going to pay the full price of a McFlurry in the first place. They are still making money off the soft serves they are selling you. Also the McFlurry cup packaging is nothing. They give out water with cup, lid and straw for free.

        • -1

The people ordering this are never going to pay the full price of a McFlurry in the first place

          [citation needed]

Also the McFlurry cup packaging is nothing

Just as the cost of 'the cone which they can then use for another customer' is equally negligible. Which was my point.

Spin it all you want, this is a cheat method for obtaining a higher priced menu item for cheaper than intended. Whether any Maccas will take issue with it is their prerogative.

        • Spin it all you want, this is just ordering 3 soft serves. You are delusional to think McDonald's will care. There is nothing they can do to stop this but stop selling soft serve cones or raise the price of soft serve cones (which they won't just because a bunch of people are ordering more of it).

        • -1

Right, three soft serves. With toppings. In special packaging. Making a McFlurry. Everyone else here recognises that, or the title wouldn't read 'McDonalds McFlurry for $1.40'. The fact that this is an illegitimate workaround isn't questionable.

As I said, if any stores want to take issue with the practice, that's their decision and their right. Whether they definitively would, has never been my point.

And no, they're not limited to playing by your rules as to what they can sell and how much for. They could easily just say 'no custom McFlurries'.

        • +1

Uh huh. If they say 'no custom McFlurries', you say 'Can I please order 3 soft serves in a sundae lid, m&m topping and a cup and spoon'. You've been able to do this at McDonald's for years. This isn't really a hack or exploitation.

        • +1

Take your own bowl if you need. This is not so much of a rort by the people as it is pointing out that McDonald's have been rorting us for years.

    • I doubt there would be that there would be that many people ordering McFlurries this way.

  • +1

Getting there - 997. Come on guys, I stayed up all night for that magic number. Don't disappoint me.

    Why this kolaveri Di?

  • -8

Good post. However it really is 4 cones of ice cream ($1.20) and two toppings ($1.00) totalling $2.20.

Also, the main reason it's possible is the cheap promotional price of 30 cent cones. In some countries cones cost over half a mcflurry.

      • +9

        That's what…no, not going there.

    • +3

They don't whirl it any more… at least in Adelaide multiple stores are too lazy to. That's what I thought the whole point of a McFlurry was!

      • damn. I was going to post that you're paying for the whirl so the OP is wrong… but I guess I am the one that needed correcting??

Being a maccas vet from a few years back, I'm surprised at how much attention this deal has earned! Employees do do things like this. As long as you can put everything that would usually cost money through the register, it's legit.

I'd have thought this type of deal would just get a few "Oh hey, that's neat," up votes.

  • +7

"hey, that's a real cheezal deal."

I often buy 3 boxes of cookies and use the Student Edge card to get a free espresso pronto, which is priced higher than the cookies. The difficulty is not eating all of the cookies at once (they're addictive!). OP, you've just added variety to my diet!

  • I prefer HJ's soft serves. Do you think if a took a mcflurry cup to them they would put 3 soft serves in it for me? Makes it a bit more expensive but I find HJ's soft serves are a little bigger.

    • They're also more creamy i find.

Other very minor fast food deals
6 mcnugget happy meal is cheaper than the 6 mcnugget small meal (not sure if it still is) You get a bonus toy as well as paying less.
6 wicked wings are cheaper per wing (under $1 per wing) than buying 10 wicked wing deal (over $1 a wing)
until the recent menu change at nandos, the 3 tenders kids meal with added two tenders was cheaper than the 4 tenders meal, they have now changed the kids meal to a half serve of chips instead of full and the drink has to be the fruit/juice box. Though if you don't care about the size of chips and drink adding two tenders is an even better deal now since they "lowered" the kids meal price and jacked up the normal tenders meal price. Supposed to be for kids 12yrs and under….

    • "Supposed to be for kids 12yrs and under…"
