  • good price…must resist

  • +3

Kind of amazing a few years ago this TV would have been thousands of dollars.

    • +4

      y u do dis

        • you are skewing the statistics!

        • we must then transfer negs to you! ..hehehe just kidding… but seriously it's gonna happen.. LOL

        • -2

          roll on negs then :)

I was just trying to even it up, beacuse he's right to a certain extent. Plasma is old tech, and in my link below on another post, in well lit rooms a plasma will typically be a worse choice.

Dont get me wrong, I love plasma… I have a Panasonic 50" that's still going well after 5 years.

        • +1

i have plasma as well :) it might be true but its proven tech and its a decent deal for a 60inch tv if you ask me… :) so he'll get negged but good on you for sticking your neck out for him.. hahaha have a neg on me! totally free of charge.. hehehe

        • -4

agreed, and every time I see some videophile bung on about deeper/darker blacks, I vomit in my mouth a little!

        • +8

A wheel is also old tech…just sayin'

        • +2

UFO: I was just trying to even it up, beacuse he's right to a certain extent. Plasma is old tech

So is the combustion engine… But the majority of us still buy a new car with them fitted!!!

        • -1

Sure vomit in your mouth a little but at least admit it's got the better picture quality. Yes it's got its limitations, like LCD/LED - but good cost v performance factor, if you don't consider the likely increased cost of running it

        • -2

Dont own a plasma nor LED TV!!

But if you a better tech than a wheel that everyone can use literally on every thing cant compare it to plasma… same goes to internal combustion engine…

        • +1

Dont own a plasma nor LED TV!!
But if you a better tech than a wheel that everyone can use literally on every thing cant compare it to plasma… same goes to internal combustion engine…

Sorry, but trouble understand having your meaning or context comments!

        • +2

          what say?

    • -1

      I love you jv

    • wow i think jv broke the record for most negatives received overall

      • I doubt he broke the record, but if anything he'd probably just be breaking his own record :)

        • Dunno, he's even set that bar pretty high at times. ;)

  • Oh sale doesn't start until 12pm today.

    • Doesn't start til 12?

      • Yeah the 12pm one hour sale. At the moment it's $1,499. You only have one hour to get this deal price if you want the TV.

  • Apparently this model reflects quite a bit, so you might want to skip it if you'll be using it in a well lit room.

    • +1

One of those glossy screens huh. My Panasonic 32" LED tv is like that. They're a bit like a dark mirror.

      • +1

My Samsung 50" works fine in a very lit room. There's nothing wrong with plasma (in fact I prefer it) if it's a good quality one.

        • Likewise, my Sammy 64" is more than capable with the curtains open in the middle of the day. It's just that it attracts any bees buzzing by!!!

      • the ST60 is much better (in both quality and reflection) - wish they had a good price on that one.

        • yep my g10 died so I got the st60.. so happy with the improvement.. soo want this for the bedroom if the wife would allow it….. world cup excuse coming up

      • -1

Umm… JV's right. Typically Plasma is inferior in bright rooms.

        Here: http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/bright-room

        • +1

"Typically" yes, but it does depend on the individual screen. A good plasma will work perfectly fine in a well lit room, and the reverse is also true for LCDs - a poor quality LCD won't work well in a bright room.

        • Its because the front panel in plasma's are glass and therefore more susceptible glare/reflection.

Most living rooms aren't in direct sunlight or watched at night, so suited for plasmas.

        • "Typically" yes, but it does depend on the individual screen.

          That's why I said "In general…"

    • Yep, that's a downside of plasma - very reflective. Better colours than LCD, though, and you might be able to angle it so you don't get the reflection from behind.

    • … or if you want to use any of the extended features, ie. Viera options, which are a diabolical mess to configure and outstandingly poor at recognising a wide variety of media devices and formats — Panasonic is the champion of stretching the meaning of 'Smart' when it comes to their products, and Pana customer service is more or less non-existent in Australia. if you want a one-stop entertainment device that delivers on a rich feature list, look elsewhere… (eg. Samsung\Sony\Sharp).
however, if you're looking for a TV monitor for your Roxio\ATV\HTPC\GTV\etc then this will should offer great picture quality (in a room with few windows or pendant lights) for very little money.

      • Don't look to Samsung for exceptional quality in plasmas! Can't speak of this year's model line up but previous ones are notorious for buzzing!
And their service… HA! The techs they contact aren't bad, but Samsung will do whatever it takes to get out of repairing or replacing a set… including blatant lying!
Some advice: Always take a copy or photo of the techs reports!

no offense but this is a dupe

    • +1

No offence but I see no where on that thread where it specifically mentions this Plasma TV deal. No dupe here.

      • +1

No offence, but rules are rules. No dupe here.

        No offence ;).

    • +5

You're absolutely right, but there's a ridiculously stupid rule here saying you can make as want dupes as you like so long as something is different, even if very slightly

      • +1

        well, duh, thanks Captain Obvious!

      • +1

        Obviously

      • +3

I agree that it's a stupid rule. There's already at least half a dozen threads for this sale, almost all of which are linking to the same flyer.

      • Holy crap I stuffed that up…

"you can make as want dupes as you like" should be
"you can make as MANY dupes as you like"

        • Not sure if you read my post before it was removed CO, but it wasn't a personal attack, I just twisted some of your words around to make my post 'slightly different' from your post so that mine wouldn't be considered a dupe! (A bit of light-hearted humour compared to a lot of the $#!T that gets posted on here… and still remains!!!

Ps. I did also say that I agree with you guys on the multiples of postings relating to a single sale and/or catalogue!

        • Didn't notice it mate so all good. :)

  • +1

Good deal though for 60 inch. No 3D :(

    • frak 3D

    • +5

3D is over rated any how.

      • +4

        Especially if you're one eyed.

      • I don't think it is. Just not enough content made for it.

Have you seen Super Stardust HD in 3D and Zen Pinball in 3D on PlayStation?

Seen a few movies in 3D, it's pretty cool, nice to have.

  • *limited to 100 units, be quick

    • You have to be quick any how as the sale only lasts for 60 minutes. But it will probably be sold out before the 60 minutes is up in any case. You snooze you lose.

By the way it is home delivery only but is free delivery.

  • So disappointed I missed out on the Panasonic 50" led tv for $697, bring it back DS and I'll snap it up :)

    • This is only about $300 more for an extra 10 inches of Dick's Panasonic TV on sale.

      • "only about $300 more for an extra 10 inches of Dick"

        • its no coincidence mate.

        • tell me where to get 10 inches more of dick for only 300$

      • Yeah, but I don't like the power consumption, plasma are known for their massive dependence on power, which might explain why their prices are down and why some companies are ceasing production. I heard they are of exceptional quality when it comes to computer display?

  • Is this a glass screen? I broke my Sony Bravia LCD screen when a lamp fell on it

    • plasmas are - LCDs aren't. Atleast more the most part.

  • Silly question, but isn't the Hitachi 70 inch a better buy at $1499?

    • +3

Nope, This is a good Brand Hitachi is just some China rebranded TV these days

      • I'm guessing the weight of the LCD vs Plasma would be a big advantage in a TV this size, so I'm wonderin whether when you say good brand, are you talking about picture quality or durability… ? I think durability would probably be a little less relevant.

  • -2

Hmm this or the Hisense deal yesterday? 3x more expensive and i don't watch TV too often but…

    • Completely different products…

      • -6

        Answer the question bud.

        • +1

This Panasonic of course. Since you don't watch it that often, why don't you go for the top end?

    • You'll never regret spending more on better picture. Not watching much tv is almost a reason to get the better one - means on the odd occasion you watch it, you'll have good quality picture. You probably won't miss the cash in 3 months time

      • -2

        Thanks I'll get the Sony.

        • +1

Why not the RCA Victor… It'll do for what you need!

  • Cheers OP, picked up one. Great TV for the price.

  • Holy cow, you'd have to be an environmental terrorist to buy one of these.

    From the Panasonic website http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/TC-P60S60

POWER CONSUMPTION OF OVER 300 WATTS (304).

That is ridiculous. My new 55" Sammy f7100 draws about 80w. My old 50" LG plasma drew 185w in comparison.

You can argue about the display quality differences, but there is no argument to be won about power consumption of plasma.

Do yourself AND the planet a favour and don't buy plasma. Rough computation suggests that 10 hours per day would cost $330 pa to run this. Mental.

    • -2

300w is nothing, My new Samsung F8500 plasma can draw 600w at full brightness, and it looks better than your TV :P Series 8 FTW

      • -3

Do you also have a Samsung F7100 LCD? If you don't and haven't experienced one outside the store, then you are talking drivel.

Enjoy your 6x 100w lightglobe power draw and huge power bill. Maybe your mum pays your bills for you.

Having owned plasma, I can assure you that games (for example) look MUCH better on LCD.

        • +1

          Gamers buy plasmas, period. ;-)

    • 304W is the max draw. It even says in the specs that average is 169W.

      • That's not MAX draw, it simply says "Rated Power Consumption".

Don't insert words that aren't on their spec, it ruins your argument.

AND …. the "average power consumption" is according to THEIR settings. Have a look at the actual Energy Star rating for some reality, unless you like having your brightness at 30%.

        • So have you looked at the actual energy star rating?

        • "Rated Power Consumption" is declared.

They tend to hide the star rating from websites and only have a sticker on the actual item.

Just checked the gov website. This TV only gets a 3 star rating. My F7100 LCD (for example) gets 6, being best energy rating given.

          http://reg.energyrating.gov.au/comparator/product_types/32/s…

          http://reg.energyrating.gov.au/comparator/product_types/32/s…

        • "Rated Power Consumption" doesn't mean energy star rating. Don't insert words that aren't on their spec, it ruins your argument. Also, I suggest not "imagining" things either.

        • -1

read above, if you can concentrate for a minute without sugar. I never said it MEANS energy star.

Stop making suggestions and read accurately.

I have now linked the ACTUAL Energy Star ratings, so you don't have to think too hard.

FURTHER, the running cost calculator shows that the Plasma costs MORE THAN TWICE as much to run.

You can't argue with Government stats, well you can but you look rather dumb to do so.

        • stars mean nothing

the rating change all the time

the only concern is the rated power consumption on the label for the year

        • FAIL

Seems to me that the fail is your suggestion that it uses 4x the power of your F7100, compared to just over double like I was suggesting (which the energy ratings confirm). Try harder next time.

        • -1

          stars mean nothing = lol

You should frame that and mount it on your desk for when you get assignments back.

        • -1

….bored. So many people here drivel without regard for facts.

Carbon, try reading the links and summary above instead of imagining what I am suggesting. It's immature.

        • +1

So many people here drivel without regard for facts.

You're the one who posted the facts showing it's just over double the F7100, which confirms exactly what I suggested. Do you not like facts now that they don't support your claims?

Carbon, try reading the links and summary above instead of imagining what I am suggesting. It's immature.

How about actually responding to the fact that you claimed power consumption of over 300W, compared to just 80W of your F7100, yet the energy ratings show it's nothing like that? Here, I'll show you again in case you forgot:

POWER CONSUMPTION OF OVER 300 WATTS (304).

That is ridiculous. My new 55" Sammy f7100 draws about 80w.

  • Thanks OP, was looking to get the ST65 but this seems like a good upgrade for the price instead, should tide me over till 4K or whatever's next comes down in price.

  • I thought this was a one hour deal ending at 1pm. How come it's still at $999 at 1:36pm?. Didn't sell enough units?.

    • finished now

    • Stupid Dick Smith Website. It kept saying $999 until 2pm, but if you tried to click on the 'Add to Cart' after 1pm, it added as $1499.

  • +1

Typical Ozbargain, 100 comments/arguments, 1 person actually says "I bought one".

    • +1

Make that 2 - thanks OP just in time for Easter break :)

    • I'd be very tempted if I didn't already buy a 64" Sammy last year! Although I did tell the in-laws about it too!

  • What?! One year warranty listed on Dick Smith site…

    • whats your point?
