What's stopping them from revealing the identity of the manufacturer? Pretty suss

    • It might be a quality Sorny product

Or the brand name is "Secret Famous".

  • Nobody has missed the 3-4pm deal yet. Just tell us the brand and you might get sales before the Dick Smith sale.

    • This is for people who read my post after 4pm. :P

  • As OP says, maybe WDBU6Y0020BBK-PESN. If so cheapest by $20 according to staticice and with free shipping.

  • Brand might be "2TB USB3", and the drive was pulled from a 386. Do any of you remember how to park a HDD?

  • It says "WAS $159.00 NOW $119.00", and the only 2TB portable HDD for $159 on their site is the WD Elements one: http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/wd-elements-2tb-usb-3.…

I don't understand the secrecy. Either they want sales or they don't.

    • I guess if the WD stock sold out, others can make up.

  • They also have a "Secret Famous Brand 4TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Drive" for $169: http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/secret-famous-brand-4t…

  • How do you get free shipping? It shows as $9.55 for me (to 2480 via Auspost)

Calculate the shipping at checkout and it should automatically apply the "SECRETDRIVENOSHIPPING" code (well it did for me anyways).

      • Thanks, worked just like you said.

  • I was sold on the secret famous title

The only reason I can think of why they are doing this is to prevent potential price matching.

  • The drives from Dicksmith had 3 year warranty compared to this which is only 1 year.

  • this secret mystery brand "deal" is a terrible idea and no one should trust it.

Okay, so it is definitely the WD! If you look at your invoice on their website after purchasing it lists your item as 'WDBU6Y0020BBK-PESN' (even though the code on the invoice they emailed me was 'SECRET-2TB-PORTABLE').

I was just going to call up and try to cancel the order so I could get TGG deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/140799), but don't have to anymore!

And according to http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/rss/ENG/4879-705241.do… and http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/AAG/ENG/4178-705765.pd… the Asia Pacific (APAC) version of the HDD (which ends in -PESN) has a 3 year warranty.

    • Yup, today I received the WDBU6Y0020BBK-PESN and it says 3-year warranty on the bottom, so great deal!!
