Bellini Kitchen Master BTMKM6 - $269 Save $130/$1731 - Pretense free Thermomixing -Free Delivery @ Target

850

Fake your way into the in crowd with this budget thermomix alternative. Now you too can pretend to be cooking in your 'thermi' whilst posting about it on your mac (maybe to pinterest with a funky filter, with a pic on your Iphone 5S), whilst giving the house a once over with your dyson and storing your meals in quality tupperware (and posting about that too). Instead you can fake it till they feel it by whipping a meal up in your bellini (and drinking a delicious bellini perhaps) whilst posting about it on your nexus 7 refurb, vacuuming with your Vax cyclonic and storing everything in some half price sistema containers. After all that maybe kick back and eat your meal as you watch a movie on your 50 inch changhong led tv, streamed through WD tv of course.

As far as I can tell this is the newest model (V3), with a lot of the 2012 releases bugs being ironed out. Speaking to the lass at target they've been sold out of these for ~8 weeks, she was surprised they were reduced and available online. Hasn't seen any returns to date either which is a good sign.

Doesn't have the internal scales (comes with some, Thermomix ones are 5g increments only anyway apparently) or the reverse blade function thingy (you have to swap the sharp for the blunt). Probably not as well made as the thermomix either, big surprise. 12 month returns to target makes me happy enough to have a punt. **Dont forget to use the code welcome for an extra $10 off too and save $1721 all up(thanks kirt)

lol. i like your write up

      +1 for excellent description

    cheap thermomix alternative, hmmm

I bought the Aldi thermocook when they were selling them. used it for 2 weeks and returned it. food was getting burnt in the jug where the heating elements were warming the jug. cleaning it was a pain in the arse. if it had been easy to clean and didn't burn food to the jug then it would have been great (if you only eat thick soup).

also the additional bits and pieces were a pain to store.

    may be theses are better.

    • Spent a bit if time hunting through online reviews and forums, by and large people seem pretty happy. Being from target it seems pretty risk free to me.

  • +1

Good deal, can confirm it was $399 at Target last week when I was scoping it out! ;)

  • +1

    '+' 4 the description :-)

  • Love the description!

  • +4

It's not bad, when it works.. I've returned 4 machines now for various reasons.. Mainly, despite saying it's ok in the booklet, the dishwasher seems to kill the plastic on the jug.. Targets return policy has also gotten worse.. Last return the 'delightful' lady at the service desk said "what do you expect for $300?" To me… Well.. I expect a device that I can use more than 20 times in between having to return it :/ so, at the discount price, if you never dish wash it, it's probably a good tool to see if you want the real McCoy..

    • +5

So why persist with dishwashing if it wrecks it? Also for plastics try the top rack only, proximity to the element wrecks even wanky Tupperware.

Edit - that said if it's the steamer that's going bung you'd think that bit would be pretty heat tolerant

    • +2

I bought this a couple of days ago and my manual clearly states DON'T put the non-metal parts in the dishwasher.

Edit: OK, I get what you are saying now after I read it again. Yes, it does sound like the jug should be dishwasher safe. Though the handle is so poorly constructed I don't think it would even handle being placed in the sink.

    • -2

It's not the tools it's the operator

      • I have now had 3 replaced under warranty. All of them had the main drive cog or shaft break. And before someone says that it was because of what we put in it, one of the times it was making bread crumbs. My current one has just broken again, but unfortunately its out of warranty now, so I will be looking at spending a little more for a better quality machine.

  • Looks good. I'm a huge cook and already own a lot of kitchen gadgets. Steamer, slow/fast cooker, stick blender set, juicer, soup maker, yoghurt maker and more.

The only gadget I'm wanting but don't own yet is a food processor to chop & dice veggies.

Opinion guys - should I get this all in one, or put $270 towards a dedicated food processor?

    • +5

Personally I would put the money into a dedicated foot processor.

This seems like the jack of all trades but the king of none.

      • +5

        Foot processor?
Looking to grate some parmesan cheese are ya?

      • Was wondering the same thing. I figured the thermomix might have been the be all and end all and maybe this was the equivalent. But reading up on the thermomix seems it's better to have different devices for each task, if counter space isn't an issue.

Also I try to stick to cooking paleo so no interest in kneading bread/pasta nor cooking rice with this thing, which seems like what it's favoured for.

        • +1

Hmm…if you're into paleo, might be better to try to hunt around for the Vitamix, knocko.., er, homage, that was selling at Aldi about 2 weeks ago.

        • Cheers HN Professional. Know the one you're talking about - they're still available at my local Aldis actually.

I don't think I've needed a blender with the intensity of a vitamix(/'homage') before, though? I have a stick blender with jug attachment which handles most of the blending in paleo recipes I've come across. Did burn my last stick blender out before by overloading it, but current one is fine as I learned to blend heavy loads in batches.

        • If you do buy it, be careful though! Make sure you have an opportunity to exchange. I put mine thru a(n empty) test-run and 2 nuts came out from the main unit! :-O But the thing is still working fine. More details in this thread:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146753#comment-2024048

Heh heh, I just foolishly ass-umed that there would be an overlap between paleos and the Raw Food people.

I bought mine ostensibly to eat more veggies ('hide them in a fruit juice') and supercharge them, ie. make the nutrients more bio-available…but really cough cough, the main reason was to (try to) pulverise the seeds (strawberry, raspberry, passionfruit). <George Costanza voice:>"These seeds are making me crazy!"

  • +7

One of my housemates has a 'thermi'. It's scary just how true your little write up is…

    • Owns a nespresso too then?

Or one of those post nespresso neo trendies?

      (Can't win can they)

      • +1

I've had my $580 (~$750RRP) Nespresso AIO for 3 years+. Love it. Hate the endless wank that comes with it, associated cost passed-on with every capsule.

Got the $50 Vittoria machine, and $59 Map machine (inc 140 free caps), $28 Aldi frother, and regularly use $89 Aldi machine.

Compared to Nespresso (IMO): taste 80%, cost 20%

  • +2

Someone educate me please. Does this make cooking easier somehow? You just put a bunch of ingredients into it and set and forget type of thing? I never cook. But if this thing does wonders, I might consider getting into it.

    • +2

Nope. You cook a bit, clean it, cook some more.
At least that's what I saw at a demo of the thermo.

As far as I could see, not much of a timesaver …

    • +2

Have a look at a recipe book here (same device different name?)…seems like you add stuff then hit a button…add more stuff then hit a button etc:

      http://www.maxika.com.au/sites/default/files/pdfs/SuperchefR…

    • +1

Depends on what your cooking. For a lot of dishes you put in the ingredients in batches heating, chopping or mixing depending on the stage of the recipe. The risotto's work really well, you pretty much set and forget once the initial ingredients are added.

    • Looks like a try-hard gadget, brings nothing new to the table

    • +1

I think it's more of a space-saver than a time-saver. If I recall correctly, the original Thermomix was designed for real-estate starved Western Europeans so that they didn't have to have a separate blender, food-processor, scales, steamer, crockpot etc. clogging up valuable kitchen space. IMHO, it doesn't really serve any useful purpose in Australia bar for the Masterchef factor.

I learnt this the hard way when I fell in lust with those amazingly designed wall beds & 'transformer' furniture (eg. from Clei Furniture) and had sticker shock —> the prices just didn't justify buying them for a single guy living in the suburbs of Sydney, as opposed to the suburbs of Paris. (said bachelor being an avowed member of Ozbargain)

If you're looking for something that makes cooking easier and quicker, can't go past a pressure cooker: soup in 10 minutes! Risotto in 7 minutes! Falling off the bone lamb shanks (complete with rich unctuous cartilage/collagen) in about 20 minutes instead of hours! Make your own dulce de leche in 1hour (cooking time) instead of 8.

Also, if you're darn lazy like I, a table-top convection is your best friend - almost everything tastes better with the Maillard Reaction :-p Yummmm…

bagging a thermomix!! - prepare for the fans to come here and attack - they are worse than iFans.

  • Purchased.. fingers crossed! Thanks OP!

  • +3

We've had one for the last year or so. It has been perfect and not missed a beat. Works really well. Made Jam, bread, risottos's, curries, mash and assorted other mains all come out realy well.

  • +6

For those who think you get what you pay for, for $2k I'm happy to bring this to your house for an in home demonstration before you take possession of it.

  • +1

Loved this post! Have been considering a Thermomix for a few months but the price is insane. Yes I know it's very good, but the business model inflates the overall cost. Plus it's a lot cheaper in Europe (must be the low wages and low taxes…. Oh wait…).

Then again, we own a Mac, Dyson and Sony TV, so I'm not sure a Bellini is the answer…

  • +2

Voted up partly because it's a good deal, mostly because the write-up made me LOL.

  • +7

I have an earlier model of one of these that I use a but at home and a genuine thermomix that I use at work in a commercial kitchen. Honestly, this thing is pretty good for 270, but I would never pay 400, it really isn't 1/4 as good as the thermomix.

It may have changed a bit over the iterations but my one is a pain to use. You have to reset the timer and temperature every time you turn it off to add something, milk burns to the bottom, you can't have the element on above speed 3 and of course the build quality is shoddy.

The thermomix at work gets used 2-3 hours a day, 7 days a week. We've had it 3 years and in that time have replaced one set of blades (probably due another set) and that's it. Zero other issues with it whatsoever.

So while the bargain description was great, you do get what you pay for.

    • +4

If the thermomix is making all the food for what am I paying the chef for?

      • +7

I'm just waiting for the next version of the thermomix to read the dockets and do the ordering so I can read ozbargain fulltime tbh

        • Hopefully it will even be able to fudge your BAS returns and tell your staff to go home early.

    • +2

Thanks a lot for the comparison, great to hear from someone who has experience with both!

  • +1

Anybody know how did the Bellini rank in the CHOICE comparison test of these devices ( or provide a freelink to the comparison webpage)?

  • +1

Loving the sass in the description OP

  • +1

    Best description ever.

    Does the Bellini break easily?

  • +2

O.P. thinks they've got it all sussed.
FYI my Nexus 7 isn't refurbished, I price matched it at Office Wor……

  • +2

OP feels he must come clean and admit to owning several IPads (albeit cast offs from work), a Dyson DC59 (kind of replaced out Vax cyclonic, bought at masters with a %10 improvement on a DJs sale), a Nespresso (Free thanks to an amex deal) and to add insult to injury a mountain of Tupperware (Spousal purchase).

    Self loathing never hurt anyone…

Changhong TV is still pretty awesome though,

  • My wife bought this model about 6 months ago, rather than paying $1600 for a Thermomix. It was built to a price and cannot be compared to a Thermomix, as they are miles apart. It is like comparing a KIA with a BMW.
She returned it after a week and bought a Thermomix. Best kitchen device ever. I am a spoilt guy now, as the wife cooks in it 3 times a week and it is unreal.

    • +7

comparing a KIA with a BMW

So you are saying the Thermomix still gets you from A to B, no more efficiently, however you spend double money to get things you don't really need other than the privilege of telling people that "you have a Thermomix"?

      • +3

Isn't $1600 the price demonstrators get it for?

        amirite?

    • +1

BMW built in Asia or Europe?

  • Any idea about the cleaning of these devices? I heard it's hard to clean between the blades?

  • +1

That Facebook group in the description is off the hook.. over 10k members and they're all fanatical about their Bellini.. if that's anything to go by it's money well spent.

They got the details for some repair guy who can do warranty jobs, so repairs would be easy if that was a consideration.

    • +4

This is true, a lot of fanatical women on there over just one little machine?

They got the details for some "repair guy" who can do "warranty job", so "repairs" would be easy if that was a consideration.

Sounds like he does house calls

      • Apparently you just 'Call Harry' he cures all your woes,

Bow chicka bow chicka woah woah woah

  • +1 for the description

  • Guys sorry to put a drag on things but it seems you can get these on ebay at a better price if your willing to auction. Previous model less than half price. And current model cheaper too… Someone has a bunclde of cheap stock

    • I saw some auctions but not the outcomes, about what price were they finishing at? With trade off between security of target for returns vs ebay it would want to be a lot cheaper.

  • +2

Have had it for a year and love it. "Bella" is my clever assistant. Not a time saver for me but a space and effort saver. I use it at least twice everyday (sometimes more if I'm in the mood for some hot chocolate).

  • "Currently unavailable online" :( it appears I took too long to decide! ….I always seem to want something more when it's out of stock lol

  • OK now I am confused. I own a dyson (competition prize) but not a nespresso machine (I have a Dolce Gusto that I was paid to buy since the cashback was greater than the purchase price). We have limited Tupperware which were mostly gifts but our Sistema items far outnumber our Tupperware items. I have a WD streaming thingy but a Panasonic TV. I don't have a mac but am getting an ipad mni for my upcoming birthday. Is a thermomix the right purchase for me? or is the bellini more inline with my current status?

    • +1

It sounds like you need the middle of the line ThermoChef for about $600.
