Looks like it's back to pre-orders only. If you put an order in now, they should ship it to you when new stock comes in.

The price has gone up by US$19. Still a good deal though.

This is the new updated i5 Vaio Pro 11 with 802.11ac and 8GB RAM. It's the cheapest I've ever seen. The previous model last sold for $1,499 at JB before this new model was announced - and that only had 4GB RAM and 802.11n wifi.

Engadget review of the previous model: http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/04/sony-vaio-pro-11-review/

I had the previous model last year and really loved it. The awesomely light weight made it a breeze to carry anywhere.

There were some issues early on (mainly wifi) which have all been fixed with driver updates. I had no problems with mine.

I'm not sure why B&H are selling it for US$829. I've put two orders through and they've both been accepted. It was listed at $829 a week or two back on pre-order, and now it's finally in stock.

The Sony.com price is US$1249.99.

And yes, Sony is selling their laptop business to another company. But so did IBM and ThinkPads are still doing great.

I don't think there's international warranty so keep that in mind.
It looks like there is international warranty. If you click on "In the box", it lists "1 Year Limited Warranty with Onsite/In-home & International Service". Thanks Kelvin!

This will very likely come with a US plug, so you'll need a plug converter or a new power cable like the ones below.

        • You put up a good defence for the product, there is a big difference in JB price and Kogans price.

Still I'd rather get the original Surface Pro at $814 delivered and use BlueStacks.

  • My only concern is it doesn't seem to have an IPS screen.

And of you want ultra portable then better off getting a high end android tablet for half the price. Unless you must have x86.

    • My only concern is it doesn't seem to have an IPS screen.

It uses Sony's Triluminos screen. The colors are nice and viewing angles good, don't worry.

    • +1

There's a world of difference between a tablet and an ultrabook besides x86 versus ARM. I wouldn't recommend anyone replace their notebook with a tablet unless I knew for sure it fit the bill 100%.

  • Seems to be sold out now? Pre-order or Notify When In Stock options are the only ones available…

    • +1

      yep 13 inch still instock

  • Black or silver!!? I can't even decide! What did you guys get?

    • Silver would be less likely to show scratches IMO

    • Get the black version, much easier to see the back lit keyboard during the day.

      • +3

Why would you want to see the backlit keyboard during the day?

  • Has anybody order been shipped yet?

    • Mine got shipped a few hours ago via UPS.

      • Yep my 13 inch was shipped this morning. :)

  • It's still 5:22 AM in NY when writing this. Wake up tomorrow morning and chase our orders :)

  • Amazing price for a small light laptop with haswell.

just put my order in. glad they wont bill till the laptop ships

  • +1

Actually, I'm tempted to cancel the order and go for the Sony VAIO Duo 13 SVD13233CXB 13.3" Multi-Touch Convertible Ultrabook Computer (Carbon Black) $919.95 US

Comes with a digitizer pen and only 1.32 KG so still very light.

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1054570-REG/sony_svd13…

    • This one is now USD 979.50

  • does anyone know hows the battery on this specific model?

  • This doesnt come with office does it?

    • No it doesn't.

  • 13" is now (just) over $1000AUD so will be hit with duty & taxes.

I've noticed this in the past with B&H, emailed them to confirm a product was the same as elsewhere as they had it cheaper, they then increased the price and replied after this was done to say yes, it was the same.

VAIO was a good deal while it was <$1k AUD though.

  • Thanks OP I managed to put in the order before the price increased on the 11" with bankwest card $955Aud

  • +1

Really nice prices. If only I need one

  • i purchased from b & h the tivo glow in the dark remote and the 802.11n wireless adapter which unlike the other adapter needs ac power and connects to the lan connector but one thing i did not find out till it arrived was that it was a us only plug and there were no aussie adapters included like the kind of things when they put about 3 different plugs in the box.

so a warning that it may have a us only ac adapter, which then you will need a us-oz adapter and hope that the voltage is worldwide 100v -240v

  • i have ordered
    Sony SOSVP13223CS VAIO Pro 13 SVP13223CXS 13.3" Multi-Touch

the invoice say i have paid Total $1,017.01

i have paid using Paypal .. which charged me $1,129.33

    …….. Can anyone explain

    • USD to AUD conversion? If u paid with paypal, usually there's an option to use paypal conversion rate by default. You need to pay attention to that.

    • I think Sony kiosk is selling it for $1100.

      • The new 8GB/802.11ac model? Sony doesn't list any 8GB/ac models on their website. They could just be clearing their old stock with 4GB RAM and 802.11n.

        • Talking about 802.11ac. I read review that 802.11ac in the pro has less range than 802.11n even though the throughput is higher. I thought 802.11ac is supposed to be better in range as well?

        • 802.11ac runs on 5GHz which inherently has less indoor range than 802.11n which is normally on 2.4GHz. 802.11ac does support beamforming though, so final range depends on your home environment and how good your router or AP is.

The 5GHz band is a lot quieter than the 2.4GHz band though, which is shared with tv extenders, baby monitors, some cordless phones, microwave ovens, Bluetooth, etc. So depending on the RF background levels in your area, you could get more usable range out of 5GHz ac.

Of course, the 802.11ac adaptor in the laptop is dualband so if your home wifi is 2.4GHz, it'll still connect to it.

  • Has anyone ordered this ultrabook received item sent confirmation? Mine one is still saying pending :(

    • Yup, both my orders have been sent, they're due to arrive Monday.

  • Guys, I have been dying to get the cheapest Sony Vaio Pro 13 and ended up getting one in Parramatta Westfield Sony Kiosk. If you are in Sydney, this place is selling it for AUD$1190 with 12 months warranty from Sony. There is a guy named Ryan at the kiosk, top bloke. Mention my name "Joon" and he will really take good care of you.
I think paying extra 100 bucks is much safer option and you get to pick it up straight away and has 12months manufacturer's warranty. Consider this as an option guys.

    • Is it the previous model or the new refresh?
      If it's 802.11n with 4GB RAM, it's the previous model, if it's 802.11ac (either 4GB or 8GB RAM), it's the new one.

    • +1

      why mention your name?

      • +1

He smells of a dirty sockpuppet..

  • The price has increased !

I guessed this deal can be expired?

    • Yup! I was wondering when they were going to bump the price up.

  • i received my pro13 yesterday. didnt pay any tax, (way) below $1000/

    • hi mate just wondering if the carbon firbe lid is cold to the touch?
is it really that "plasticy"? :S

id also like to know if any lads have issues with the wifi signals (pro13)
      cheers

      • received mine yesterday. Not that cold to touch and not plasticky at all

ran the Vaio update software and firmwares and drivers got updated

Only issue I have is the display auto brightness adjustment. It keeps dimming and brightening….getting me frustrated and can't find a way to disable it

Windows 8 normally has a function in the power settings, but on this laptop its missing!

If anyone can help, let me know

        • Yup, hit start and type control center… click on Vaio Control Center.
The auto brightness setting is there.

No idea why they didn't just leave the windows one there!

        • thanks for prompt reply
wifi signal and strength ok? or are the controversial rumours true
mainly a replacement laptop for uni if the wifi is iffy then cannot really consider :/

        • +2

I don't have the 13 but I had the 11. I didn't have any wifi problems both at home and at work. I didn't experience a single dropout.

I wasn't surprised though, as all the reports were from early on before the slew of driver updates came through.

        • thanks! been searching for about 2 hours all over the web and on the comp!

hayneplane….not dropouts at all…been pretty good.

        • thanks for the help guys :)

        • i just returned to sydney 2 days ago. the lappy is still on the charge. i havenot turned it on, but will do today.

imo, its cold to touch (winter…) but definitely not that plasticy. it is not that light either. i compared it to my gf's toshiba, they weighed almost the same.

        • You guys in NSW always get packages a day earlier than Brisbane. I wish Botany was in QLD instead. :)

Which Vaio did you get and which Toshiba were you comparing it with?
I've bought a few Porteges for work and they're light, but the Pro 11 is much lighter at 0.87kg.

The 13.3" Portege Z930 and Vaio Pro 13 are about the same weight(1.12kg vs 1.06kg respectively). The Portege line has always been incredibly expensive though, and the Z930 has a crappy-looking 1366x768 TN screen.

Before Ultrabooks came out, Porteges were the lightest around, and you definitely paid a premium for it. But now they've been left behind with cheaper and better Ultrabooks like the Vaio Pro and Samsung Series 9.

        • i bought a pro 13. i was talking about a Toshiba porteges z930. z930 looks ok, but its screen is not fhd.

  • Is there a difference in the black and silver pro13?
Why are they listed as different prices?

    • By judging the model numbers, I suggest they are the same model just in different colors.

The black one's price is great but just over AU$1000, so might be caught by tax and duty..

  • i have a black 13 duo 8gb 128gb 3 days old for sale if anyone interested, please pm me. melb pick up only.

  • +1

    Got wrecked by tax

    • +1

Haha, did you buy one that was just over 1K AUD threshold?

  • Turned out 1005 aud like wtf man
    Dunno what to feel

    • Which model did you get?

      • 13
        Unaware of USD AUD conversion
Happily clicked buy and turned up >1k on credit card

        • Ahh, looks like the conversion went the wrong way that day. alwayseric didn't get charged tax on his 13.

        • Was pretty much sitting on 94c the past few weeks though

        • I guess it's the $12 sleeve that pushed it over by $5, then. There were a few comments above that warned about being hit with tax if ordering the Pro 13 instead of the 11.

        • no, i didnt get charged for tax. the 28degree transaction history shows i paid approx $1065

  • +1

I chucked in a sleeve for good measure ($12)
Now all up I'm paying 1.3k.
    I don't even

    • that sucks mate

    • I chucked in a sleeve for good measure ($12)
Now all up I'm paying 1.3k.

If the TOTAL ITEMS VALUE> $1000AUD converted, then you pay GST(10%), Customs processing fee (5% or something) on the total value of items AND shipping.

So next time.. don't throw in a sleeve into an order that's dangerously close to the $1000AUD threshold.

    • Even it is still cheaper than the local. But that lesson is expensive….

      • you reckon i can still do anything about it? :l
        maybe email/call b&h?

        • might be a bit late, but definitely worth a shot.

        • yeah pretty disappointed :(
i chucked them an email though

  • How do you guys register for International Warranty?

I have a Mysony account in Australia but it does not recognise the model number. Does that mean you have to register in US Sony?
