    what is last past?

        • +13

          indeed…. 256bit AES is pretty easy to hack these days right?

        • -5

          @SBOB:

          so when was the last time you hacked a 256bit AES password

        • +6

          @easternculture:

          Whoosh!

        • +1

          @Sage:
          Yeah, I would be far better of using the same password for all 595 access points that I need right.

        • @snuke:

          Of course!

          And definitely better off having an easy to remember email password for the associated email to those logins which will allow an attacker to reset anything they want.

          And there's that historical record of Lastpass being compromised. I mean "never" makes it a pretty dodgy service all round I'd say.

          Cheers for the dealio, one of the few services I pay for that doesn't involve making me more money.

          The best place for passwords are in your head, simple minded forgetful folk should use lastpass.

          Edit: seems to be quite a few on here.

        • +1

          @stemcell:

          That works for relatively simple, memorable or repeatable sequence passwords..

          All of which are technically weaker security wise than a random string of gibberish for how ever many characters you like.. (which is why people use last pass.. Auto generate a completely random 20 character password unique for each site)

          I currently use a combination of relatively simple passwords for sites I care little about and repeatable sequence passwords for others… But I don't pretend to kid myself that it is as secure as using something randomly generated by a password manager..

        • @SBOB:

          I am sorry you are not able to create strong passwords, have a read of this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mnemonic the power of the mind is great SBOB so use it!.

        • @stemcell:

          I'm sorry you aren't able to understand basic mathematics regarding the increased security that random and unique password give… But whatever..

          (I don't even use last pass, and my passwords are of a decent level of security.. But unless you are making completely unique and unrelated 20+ random character passwords for every site you visit then your technically less secure than something like last pass…
          And if you are, and can remember them can you tell me how many match sticks I just dropped on the flooe

        • @SBOB:

          I guess this is not your area of expertise.

        • @stemcell:

          actually, you guessed wrong…. and so I'll repeat… but whatever

        • @SBOB:

          I was looking forward to an intelligent conversation on this matter, it seems it was not forthcoming.

        • @stemcell:

          I wouldn't criticise yourself that much, I'm sure you tried your best…

        • @SBOB:

          I see a sensible conversation is beyond you, you do try your best even if it is quite embarrassing.

        • +1

          lots of negs, but even Microsoft researches agree with me. http://www.ubergizmo.com/2014/07/long-complex-passwords-migh…

        • @Sage:

          Articles like this give false information.

          If last pass was 'hacked' all the hackers would have is a bunch of very highly encrypted files (256-bit AES) that would be basically useless to a hacker.

          If you really want facts, and a well informed opinion from someone who knows what they are talking about, read on…

          http://blog.lastpass.com/2010/07/lastpass-gets-green-light-f…

          What really annoys me, that the very same people that dish out the punches for services like this probably have their browser autofilling and saving passwords on their PC without any encryption!

          Used correctly, LastPass will provide you with a very high level of protection against identity theft and unauthorised access to your websites. If you have a lot at stake online, you can use this combined with another factor (called multi factor authentication) of security to make it virtually impossible.

          @greydaniel:

          A very good post until you get emotional and type "What really annoys me, that the very same people that dish out the punches for services like this probably have their browser autofilling and saving passwords on their PC without any encryption"

          That's a very big presumption.

      Its basically your past life. Its a online membership that allows you to go to your last memory in the past , hence its called last pass. Think of it as an online time machine. Make sure you dont alter the past because it may affect your future as per T&C of the free trial offer

    Thanks - Added 6 months to my account :D

  • I used the referral link and haven't received the free month of premium.

    • Same question here

  • So what happens after 6 months? Start paying?

    • Lastpass is always free, premium will allow you to use their mobile apps. I reckon after 6 months you can't use the app but can still access everything from your browser.

  • Thanks - just got an extra 6 months on my current subscription

      @ Matt88

      Just extended mine by 6 months too…

      Looks like a worrying exploit.

      "With this first exploit, if a user clicked on their bookmarklet while on a site specifically built with this hack in mind, LastPass could be coaxed into coughing up the user’s credentials for others sites, like Dropbox, Gmail, etc."

      I guess putting all your eggs in on password basket can be dangerous.

    • +2

      So the hack requires the user use the bookmark let feature or what ever it's called AND visit a site with this exploit…. Not so certain how often this combination occurs for people but it should never happen for me because I don't use the bookmarklet thing. I mainly rely on the plugins. And that is safe from this exploit.

      The next exploit relies on the attacker knowing your user name first so that sounds like a targeted attack only. Got any enemies?

      I have some terrible news: whatever OS you use has security holes that could cause you to become completely compromised under a certain set of circumstances should they occur.

      I would suggest not turning the computer on again to avoid this.

  • +1

    last pass was a prize winner from time, pcmag etc long before google chrome had password managers.
    may still be the best there is

    I am glad Lastpass has gone to accepting Google Play payment system now too. I can use some credit to pay for additional Premium fees.

    • +1

      How do you pay with the Play account? I only see general cc and paypal details.

  • +1

    That's awesome you saved me around $6 - thanks champ! :)

    Have used lastpass for the last year and a half. Cannot go without it now.

    Thanks to this deal, going to install lastpass on my phone for the first time. weeeeee :)

  • thx OP I extended my premium :D

  • Cool. Thanks.

  • The fact Lastpass gives you unique passwords between your sites negates any potential security flaw with 'having all your eggs in the one basket'
    This is a great deal, and everyone that cares about their online profile should read up and use something like this to make your online profile much more secure.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, added 6 months. I have been using lastpass with a yubikey neo ( http://www.yubico.com/products/yubikey-hardware/yubikey-neo/ ), pretty nice.

    • +1

      Why not use google authenticator for free ?

      • If you don't want to add your mobile/computer as trusted, it is easy with the yubikey neo as you only need to get it close to your NFC mobile and it will let you in (after entering your master password)

        with google authenticator, you will have to start the app, get the code, go back to lastpass app, type the code.

        both give an extra security tho.

        EDIT: you can use the yubikey to unlock your laptop too.

        • Never used yubikey neo but google authenticator really works for me, just trust the computer you use and forget about retyping a code. I also installed it on multiple device just in case i don't have my phone with me.

        • @jominix: The issue is that not everywhere utilises Google Authenticator (although I wish they did). Yubikey's support encyrpted passwords on the device itself as well as OTP.

          The only real downside at present with Google Authenticator is that most places are an all-or-nothing. You have to use it for everything on the site or don't use it (other than Google sites). ie. Using it on Amazon AWS, it wants my GA OTP for every damn thing I do, it won't remember my PC for say, two weeks. I'd rather it just be required for account changes and transactions, not just to log in.

  • Where do you find your date-paid-to at Last Pass? I'm on the premium plan, I think I have taken advantage of this but I want to make sure.

  • How do you add the 6 months to an existing account?

    • First logon to the Lastpass site in another tab and then come back here and follow "Go to Deal" link above and you've got yourself an Uncle Bob.

  • Free 6 month extension - awesome! My last invoice was April 2014, now I checked, and my expiry was pushed to October 2015 :D

  • OzBargain, can you please make a filter option?

  • how do i add my referral link?

    what is the puspose of a password manager.
    it's not hard to remember passwords

    • +2

      I am guessing you didn't read any of the posts by other people.
      I currently have 595 unique passwords; tell me you can remember 595 randomly generated passwords and I will watch that Kardashians show.

    • +1

      @Holden93

      Guessing you reuse passwords then?

      Now that, is an utterly horrendous practice which could get you pwned real easy. :)
