I asked them nicely yesterday..and they waived the fee for me..my other phone is with them BTW.. :)

    • +1

It's $100 within the first 6 months. After 6 months it's only $27.50 regardless of what model and make.

      • Very steep 'penalty' fee for such a quick official unlock. Better go Bagman for $15 or just use it as a $40 pocket computer haha

  • mine don't work with ALDI sim

  • can I shop 3 of the Nokia 530 or 1 with other things to be qualified for the 3 weeks of $100 spend to get a $30 Christmas gift card?

    • max 4 mobile number at anytime, you need provide ID and staff will check for you that how many number with Telstra under your name so far.
I am wrong maybe, Just try it…

    Sydney:
    Bankstown, Chesterhill, Bass Hill

ALL HAVE ZERO STOCK. They notified that they have not received any stock at all, thus the sale is limited from them.

    • +1

Just got 1 from Rockdale Woolworths and they still got 4 after i bought mine.

  • Just called Telstra, yes it is cost $100 to unlock now and cost $27.50 if you Telstra number is activate and use for more than 6 months

    Anyone successful unlock with them?

    • +2

Just tried the code-unlocking.com site, it's been 24 hours and all they've sent me are emails consistent with templates from their original scamming sites, according to someone reporting thus scam on the whirlpool forums + reviews. For eg "William is now working on your code, will take 24 hrs", then received an email "could not retrieve code because more info required", in which case they wanted IMEi number again + further 24 hrs. Requested full refund if they couldn't get me a code, so got a refund today

    • +2

I also tried www.code-unlocking.com. After 16 hours they sent an email "Liam is working manually on your code, will take another 24 hours" and asked for the IMEI number again. I responded - who knows, maybe there really was a person sending this?

Anyway, I waited until 24 hours after the original order, as otherwise they could keep me waiting forever with an email a day, really - then requested a refund.

For others who want a refund: Go to the paypal website, and start the process for a dispute - then a message pops up saying you can get a full refund by going to a URL on www.code-unlocking.com website - go to the URL, enter your paypal email address, and the refund happens.

If they were going to provide the unlock, it would have happened without delays, surely. I would say don't use them.

      • +2

I think the moral of the story here is, Liam is a bit slow at his job.

      • GOOD MAN!

Thanks for the informative post on how to get an instant refund back from this crowd. I followed your instruction and received my $5.99 back in to my PayPal account within a matter of minutes.

        Cheers

      • I only got the one email saying they can't unlock the 530. Time for a refund so I can pay Bagman

    • I ordered two phone codes about a year or two ago from these guys. Same result couldn't unlock after taking money.
Point is after saying they would refund they didn't!
Contacted a week later, they refunded immediately.
So best to check your refund.

  • +5

    successfully unlocked by BagMan.

    • $15?

      • yes

        • So he is the cheapest options to unlocking now?how long to wait for they sent you the unlock code?

        • +1

          @aiyoyo:
i got the code in 19hrs after sending him request with payment.

        • @tasdiq: what is best way to contact bagman? email or via this site?

    • +1

Bagman came up with the goods for me.
Emailed him 6:30pm last night, paid him $15 by paypal ~7.15pm, code emailed to me 4am this morning.
      He's a phone-unlocking machine!

    • when sending money to bagman via paypal, which option should I use (1) pay for purchase (2)pay family or friends. Please advise

      • either one is fine with me but I think the 2nd option you may not be able to reclaim a refund.

        • Thanks Bagman, I am going to order a Lumia 530 unlock now using paypal option - pay for purchase.

        • +1

          Thanks Bagman, phone unlocked perfectly.

  • I'm South of River in Perth and I've been trying to get hold of the phone. Cannington store said they only have two phones at the start of the sale and they have been sold out- they're not allowed to give rainchecks (??). Maddington says they have nine phones but can't sell them because the computer system wouldn't recognise them (??). This phone seems a little elusive in perth!

    • Give Dianella store a call.

    • +1

I went into Waikiki 6168 yesterday morning, they had lots, all others in the area had none. Bit far but maybe good to know.

  • Since Aldi don't work. Do any other services work with this mobile? Boost Mobile?

    • most likely, only the real telstra sim will work

    • +2

      Boost works.

  • Can anyone confirm if the bluetooth work for this phone or it is just mine that is playing up.
I turn on bluetooth and it keep on saying searching and can't pick up any bluetooth devices at all. ( already try other devices and same result).
Can anyone who has this phone confirm it is working fine on their phone.

    • Mine worked ok for a headset and speaker. Took a couple of goes on the speaker though.

  • Went yesterday morning and today and they said they never got any stock. They also said no rainchecks.

  • +1

None in Ashfield NSW till like this saturday, but I got raincheck for 1 though. The lady asked me if I wanted raincheck for 6 but I said nah, just 1 pliz!

  • -1

according to the full specs link in the description , networks are :

GSM network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz

I think optus needs both 900 and 2100 for good performance so probably not the best for optus.

    • +2

lol. Incorrect. You're comparing 2G specs to the 3G Network.

      The Lumia 530 supports WCDMA(3G) Quadband - bands 1, 2, 5, 8. Thats 2100/1900/850/900Mhz.
So absolutely perfect for Optus… and Telstra… and Vodafone. That's what makes this phone so great!

Often phones from a carrier won't support other carriers frequencies. E.g. the Lumia 520 which is only tri-band. It's available in two different editions for Telstra and Optus and is not compatible between them.

      • just going from what i read here:

        http://www.mobilenetworkguide.com.au/australian_mobile_phone…

The carriers have chosen to utilise the lower frequency such as 700, 800 and 900 for their primary bands because they offer much better range and building penetration than the higher bands. As a result you will find that these lower bands are widely used in country areas.

The higher 1800/2100 bands are very useful to the carriers in highly populated areas due to the increased user capacity that they offer

so 900 good for country and 2100 good for city

    CBF reading through many pages:
    BOOST works on this phone

  • Could not get one phone at Glass works Brisbane there stock of 6 that arrive the morning of sale went first thing on opening. However they helped to reserve 1 of 2 at indro. Nice to have professional staff . Praise being sent to head office. The second phone at indro was already on hold.

Thanks for link, and now to start up.

Can we use different carriers in the duel sim phone?
    .

    • It's not dual sim

    • +1

Derp. This isn't dual sim. But there is a dual sim version.

    • Do you mean Gasworks at Newstead?

  • +2

I bought one in Bondi Junction yesterday. Plenty left. Very happy with the phone. I thought I would be using it mostly as fm radio but I was very surprised with mix radio and the ability to save tracks and listen to it offline. Maps are ok and can also be used offline. Web browsing is good. For those who will be using it as a spare phone I recommend to be careful as the battery doesn't last that long. No memory card on mine but can't complain. You will need a memory card tho!

  • OK now I know it is not duel sim model, was tooling the Auldi flip phone.

    Thanks for update

  • Got one to play with. Other than the awful screen, everything is a pleasant surprise! Thanks OP!

  • +3

This is a great price for a backup phone (or a main phone too). I bought 2 (1 as a backup, 1 for my grandmother). Heck, at this price it's only slightly dearer than a toy phone you'd give you kids! (Give it to them when you're done with it)
Like others have said, the TFT screen is bad (even worse than dodgy cheap LCD screens). But I'm surprised how smooth, quick and responsive the phone is. It's definitely faster than a Lumia 520 (which my father in law has), but the 520 has a better screen. Anyway, Windows phone is clearly very well optimised to perform on low specs. If you are considering buying one, just get it an give it a go. You could probably sell it if you don't like it anyway. Thanks OP!

  • Got this in the mail this morning:

"Unfortunately we have been unable to generate an unlock code for your
mobile phone. There are so many mobile phones on the market today
and not all of them can be unlocked. This can be for a variety of reasons
and is not limited to certain makes or models, occasionally it can be linked
to the amount of time the handset has been locked to a particular network.

Your options now may now be limited to contacting your network operator or visiting
a local shop who can unlock your mobile while you wait. It is very unlikely another
online company will have the unlock code but you could always give it a try.

I will now forward your details to our dedicated accounts team who will deal with
your refund. Refunds can occasionally take up to 7 days but will usually be back
in your account a lot faster than this.

Once again may I apologise on behalf of the Code Unlocking team and wish you every
success in getting your mobile unlocked.

    Thanks
    Liam White"

    • Thanks for that info, apparently Bagman is the one for all of us ;-)

  • Great job bagman!

    • How do I get in touch with Bagman?

    • any one have an idea of how he can do this unlocking things? with hardware or just software?

      • Defs not hardware bro

      • The lock code can either be based on an algorithm, or specific to a provider. If the latter, his supplier might have someone working in Telstra with access to the database. I think it's just sitting on the intranet, actually.

  • Please excuse my total ignorance but if i purchase the Telstra 3G USB+WIFI, can i activate it when i want, like in a few months when i go away for a weeks holiday? Once the 1GB is used up does it stop working or continue and charge you. Also can you then use this USB device and get a recharge for 1 month later…

    • Yes; No; and Yes

  • +2

First time poster but have purchased many things from the daily emails, appreciate everyone's comments…

I used the ebay link on the page 1 to unlock the 530 successfully - took about 1.5 days but worked a treat!
Not really sure why the negative comments about the screen - looks fine to me and perfectly functional and a bargain.
Battery has been really good even with the extra usage during setup.

    • Might post the link?

    • @cfresh would you mind sharing the link? there are too many on page 1..

    • +3

      hmmm first time poster….

    • Mr Bagman unlocked mine for $15 and less than 7 hours.

For the the people that wasted there time with http://www.theunlockdepot.com
he cant generate the code just go to http://www.theunlockdepot.com/refund and
you will get your refund in less than 10 Mins without raising a paypal dispute

  • Titanus I think he means this one http://www.theunlockdepot.com/
but don't waste your time as I had to get a refund as he could
    not unlock

  • Hi Cfresh, could you please post the ebay link to unlock 520?.Thanks

  • For those who are asking here is the guy I used (not affiliated in any way) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221587542972?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN…

$19.95?Why not giving $15 to Bagman to unlock cheaper?

anyone who brought the 530 from woolies can you please confirm that the skype 3 month free promo works? also does it work on optus 900mhz 3g if unlocked?

    • Mine works on Virgin which uses Optus network.
I haven't had a chance to try the Skype offer yet.

    • yes.. it works..

    • Works on all 3G bands needed for telstra/voda/optus (850,900,2100)

      • not 2100 in the specs list provided , the ones you buy unlocked in the stores might though

  • +1

Grabbed two last night from two different stores (Gold Coast, QLD) both had more stock.
1st one I got as a backup/emergency phone when cycling/running, so I don't have to carry my Oneplus One.

Also grabbed a couple of $30 starter kits for $15 each from DSE. That will keep me going for 120days.

The second I grabbed for my father-in-law who has been complaining about his iPhone4 for months now… WindowsPhone seems quite intuative and a good option for older/less technical folk. I'm impressed from initial setup & playing.

    • How to use the starter kits for monthly recharge? It is possible?

      • For me, as it is going to be a back-up phone, I plan to use the starter pack for "Simplicity" $30 for 60days, then when then when it expires, use the next starter pack.
        http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/offers-and-rates/?&red=/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/offers-rates/&tc=G|E|D|TP|TPREP|PrepaidMobileTermsBrand&mqp=svED8dO43|dc_47143153723_telstra%20prepaid%20mobile_e&gclid=CjwKEAjww8eiBRCE7qvK9Z7W_DgSJABfOjf2xsLjbRO-zaqRvPwk2M8oHt38Y4sLbtPJcWx9yu1PNhoCSqHw_wcB

But Telstra have a thing called Credit Me2U where you can transfer credit from one account to another. I haven't used it & I think there may be a bit of stuffing around, but there is a detailed thread on whirlpool about using these starter kits to recharge.

        https://go.telstra.com.au/helpandsupport/-/transfer-credit-b…

For those interested, plenty of stock left at Unanderra (Illawarra) Woolies….. Strange thing, I bought 2 for my sons, one came with a 4GB sd card, the other had none. Have also requested an unlock code from Bagman. Will revert with how that goes……..

      • +3

Maybe it's time for Bagman to consider offer discount for OZBargainers. His business will be flooded with orders!

        • +2

I think right now he'll be flooded with orders anyway!

        • +1

I did raise the issue of multiple discounts with bagman. He emailed back that arrangements with his supplier did not allow for this…….. Still a cheap deal anyway!

      • Interesting, was the mSD card in the phone, or floating in the box, or packaged some other way?

        • +2

SD was already installed in the phone! showed up as available storage space when first booted up.

          @Ian Green:
Annoying that some got one, some didn't!

      • All Hail Bagman! Unlock code took a day and a half to arrive…. Bagman was good in providing updates when i enquired….. Easy to unlock! HE DA MAN! Will be getting some repeat business from me!

    Debranding instructions

If you want to remove the Telstra branding and make it generic, here are the instructions:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515453

You can get the product code from this website:
    http://www.nokioteca.net/home/forum/index.php/topic/245802-p…

059W579: RM-1018 VAR APAC AU CV

    "CV" stands from "Country Variant"

Just did this and it's totally free of Telstra!

    • was filled with joy, until I realised remove Telstra branding, doesn't unlock the phone :(

    • Nice, but is it worth it?
The only branding I see is a Telstra logo splash screen on boot-up and an app that is easily uninstalled. What's the risk of bricking the phone?

      • +2

removing the Telstra branding allows u to upgrade its Windows Phone 8.1 version to 8.10.14147.180 or beyond. hence you can get Cortana to works in Australia as your local Region.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Phone_version_history

Telstra is always lagging behind in firmware updates. these Telstra Lumia 530 are @ version 8.10.12400.899 atm. who knows how long u have to wait to get the update
