  • hopefully someone will update here on how it can be unlocked..
    fingers crossed

  • Im with Aldi Mobile, I just phoned them and they said If I was to buy a Locked Telstra Phone that for me to use it I would have to Unlock the phone?

So is this true has anyone managed to get it to work

    • -1

Why would you need to unlock it? Aldi Mobile uses Telstra's network.

It will work 100%. Sounds like CS doesnt know what its talking about as per usual.

Useless phone …battery drains fast …poor internet connection ….just good for calling and texting!

GSM Arena Reviews! don't sound to good to me, prob why going cheap lol.

    • Isn't Windows phone have better battery life than Android?

      • No. Depends on the phone and what's running. I manage to get 10 hours screen on time with my Nexus 5 (mostly reading).

This is with unnecessary services disabled and using Greenify. If you got a Samsung Note/S4/etc. and removed/froze the bloatware, it would get better battery life.

You have less choice in Windows Phone to customize in that way. Although there is a battery saver mode.

        • +1

No. Depends on the phone and what's running.

The most valid comparison would be the HTC One M8 running android vs the HTC One M8 running WP8.1, since they're both on the same hardware.

          http://www.slashgear.com/htc-one-m8-windows-vs-android-batte…

WP does seem to use less power.

        • +1

@eug: Like I said, it depends on what's running.

The HTC One M8 running Android would have the HTC Sense skin on top, with all its customisations.

So it's basically running more in the background.

The HTC One M8 for Windows is basically stock Windows Phone 8.1. So of course, it will use less power.

You'd have to disable some of the bloat to get a fairer comparison.

        • +2

@happychappy1: Seeing that the vast majority of Android phones out there are running a skin (namely Touchwiz and Sense), I think it is fair to say that Android uses more power than WP. The original statement did not say "…better battery life than plain vanilla Android".

  • So is this phone better than Lumia 610, cant understand the logic behind the model numbering?

    • +3

The second digit represents the generation. The first digit represents the series (I.e. 5 is lower than 6, etc.)

But keep in mind that the 610 is much older and runs a no longer supported version of Windows Phone. So this would have a more updated OS, but the 610 may have more features (e.g. front camera).

      • So how come some people think Nokia Lumia 520 is better than 530? Mainly screen right?

I recently bought a Lumia 520 for my mum and am wondering if the 530 would suit my dad. or if I should just stick with 520. At $39.50 the price is a steal for the 530 though…

        • +2

The 5xx and 6xx Lumia series went downmarket.

The 520's successor is essentially the 630/635 (also downgraded).

The 530 is the new bottom end.

Some of the features missing in the 530 (but present in the 520).

          • Ambient light sensor (530 has none, neither does 630/635)
          • IPS display (530 is TN)
          • Autofocus Camera (530 is fixed focus)
          • Camera shutter key (530 doesn't have one)
          • Proximity sensor for turning screen off during calls

          What's your budget?

        • @happychappy1:
Shit they really did go downmarket. Didn't realise how much they cut off the 520 to make the 530.

  • Excellent deal!!!!!!!!!

  • Hoping to snag one tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed!!!

  • I can now Upgrade to a better phone for cheap. i have a samsung preston icon atm.

  • +2

Thanks just picked a phone from Blacktown approx 10 phones left. The bonus cover is just a back cover.

  • Got one at Wynyard, Met Centre!!! Score!!!! Check out chick said some asian guy went apeshit at townhall because they were sold out there and asked Metcentre to put them on hold for him…. Not.

    • +7

Second most popular smartphone after iPhone 6.

    • I was there behind that Asian guy. He was yelling at the staff for making him wait for 15 mins. Felt sorry for the staff and really wanted to tell him to shut up. They ended up giving him one that was reserved for another customer anyway.

      • +1

They ended up giving him one that was reserved for another customer anyway.

Lol I'd laugh if the other customer was that guy's cousin or something. Would've loved to be there for the fireworks when he would be told his item was given to someone else.

      • -1

well certain Asian likes to think the manager is their own family or think they own the store. feel sorry for the staff who has to deal with psycho

  • +1

Picked one up at Woollworths Toowong this morning, cheerful, zippy and cute

    • how's the back cover? is it plasticky & tacky or nice?

      • It's simply a orange colour replacement for the black backcover, same material.

        • +1

The orange cover is fluoro orange. But it also comes with a 4gb microsd card inserted.

        • @TScott: Yes, the 4gb microSD card is like a bonus gift, I put it my 32gb one into it instead, plus 4gb built-in storage, plenty space to play with.

        • @TScott:

Yeah, 2 covers included, black and Telstra Orange, plastic feel, but it is a budget phone. No flash, no NFC

        • +1

          @jva:

Hmm, I have not located the microSD card …

        • +2

          @Dubrave:

          same here.

        • +1

          @mr kindface:

          Me either :(

        • +1

          @theedge: me neither

  • Picked one up this morning. Nice cute phone but the screen isn't that great compared to an iPhone. Low res, poor viewing angles and moving text gets blurry.
For the price its excellent however

    • +2

The phone makes a great little offline spotify/mp3 player.

  • Does anyone know whether this phone have a built in map with turn by turn guidance GPS ? Can I download Google Maps in this phone via the windows store ?

    • it has maps and navigation

    • +3

The HERE map would be one of the best mobile OFF-LINE maps out there, you may download the whole world's maps to your Lumia device, if you have plenty of storage.

  • What sim are you guys using your phones with?

    • Oh, it comes with a Telstra Prepaid $10 sim, so the phone is virtually $29.50 if you plan on using the credits

      • Even better! Good to know =)

      • I got the sim card included in the box but it doesn't mention prepaid $10. How do you get the PRepaid $10 SIm ?

        • +1

Look on the back of the box where it's says "what's inside" It mentions $10 credit included. Cheers

        • @pufffdragon:
It's not really $10 credit as you cannot spend it on data, it's a startup bonus for some calls and will expire in two weeks.

        • @demiurge: $10 credit is still $10 credit, whether it goes on data or not.

  • Apologies if this as been covered elsewhere…where are you guys getting it unlocked from and how much? (OZBargain style i meant)

    • People have mentioned getting it unlocked from Bagman, whos an Ozbargainer. Hes going to be inundated I think.

    • This link was given earlier by puffdragon and they are charging $5.99
      http://www.code-unlocking.com

      • Although I didn't have any issues with this website, after reading the reviews, quite a lot of people have had nothing but trouble with them.

As mentioned before, they do use paypal so you have buyer protection, and if there are issues you could definitely get a your $5.99 back.

      • WARNING against unlocking scam
        http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2053330

      • I did try these guys again but I just received an email from them saying they can't generate a code for the lumia 530 unfortunately. Waiting on the refund

  • Got one at Ivanhoe, VIC

  • What a great phone for the price. Great build quality and feel.

The viewing angle on the screen is a bit of a shame. I have to tilt it slightly to the right for it to look right. I don't plan on playing games or watching videos on it, so it's fine with me.

    For $39, I can't complain

    • +1

Well I only plan on using mine as a glorified mp3 player to replace a dead Zune haha

      • +4

+1, So this thing does everything an iPod does, but can even make calls too! Eat that Crapple!

  • Someone highlighted in the previous Page that this phone does not have a proximity sensor, so can you manually turn the screen off when on a call? The last thing I want is my face getting hot…

    • +6

No, I have third degree burns upon my face from this phone, but you can pay the medical bills with the savings

    • +5

I just tried a call. The screen blanks out when the call connects.

    • Yeah it will be good when Nokia stop using those old incandescent light bulbs in their phone's.

  • Any store stocking the Telstra version of 530 that will price match with Woolies?
Seems Woolworths' are running out of stock sooner than it takes to spell "WOOLWORTHS".

  • Are there any issues with browsing on the windows phone, like on android where the pages don't load properly.

    • +1

      web browsing is surprisingly good.

  • +1

Just picked one up….good phone to take on holiday with me…only need maps and sms :)

  • out of stock at the sunshine coast, not a single one arrived for weeks said the lady in woolworths

    • raincheck it

  • Got mine this morning :)

  • has anyone tried are they locked or not? cos last time i bought lumia 610 it came unlocked.

    • +1

locked. Asks for an 'unlock' code

  • +1
  • +4

Can't get my aldi sim to work in this phone… ;-(

    • +2

Oh bugger. That's worth noting in the OP I think.

      • I'm shocked and bedazzled!
I was hoping to keep it as a backup phone without having to pay for unlock.
Oh well, you can't have everything!

    • Just tried my Aldi sim. Says enter unlock code. 10 attempts.

      • :O

That sucks..I'm glad I resisted the urge

  • Woolworths Thornleigh - sold 5 by 10 am had heaps left at 10 am..

  • Got one at Merrylands Stockland this morning. Lady pulled out about 5 boxes from under the counter so still plenty of stock here but I'm anticipating they will quite possibly sell out very quickly(as evident from other stores).
I'm thrilled with my new dedicated wifi capable mp3 player.

  • Mortdale Woolworths with 5 in stock as of 10 minutes ago

  • +6

Just wanted everyone to know that Woolworths Pialba (in Hervey Bay) has "heaps" of the Lumia 530 according to the helpful girl at the service desk.

If you have never been to Hervey Bay I heartily recommend making the trip. It is a bustling seaside town with vibrant nightlife and arguably the most beautiful women in the world. When you first arrive there, the local villagers will clamour for your attention because by tradition, the first one to meet you will have the honour of hosting you in their house for the duration of your visit.

Swimming in Hervey Bay is an almost Disney-like experience. The minute you enter the water dolphins will appear to frolick with you and keep you safe from harm whilst a myriad of colourful fish cavort before your eyes and humpback whales sing southern gospel songs.

You don't need to worry about chaining your bike or removing the keys from the ignition of your car when you stay there, because crime is virtually non-existent. Just leave the doors unlocked and the Lumia 530 on the dash - it will be perfectly safe.

    • +5

Do you work for Hervey bay city council by any chance?

      • Fraser Coast Regional Council, I'll have you know.

    • +2

      I'll have what your having

    • +2

Rofl, is this guy for real?
