    Neil:

Mod: While the deal is not as good as it should be, please don't vandalize deal.

Since it's the OP that changed his mind in relation to this deal, one could hardly call this vandalism.
Also… it's not as good as t could be, cause it's simply based on illegal practices. DS should be banned for this from OzB and fined by the ACCC.
One we can't control… but the other is one that might need to be looked at.

    • +1

Fined? that would be like issuing a parking ticket… its no deterrent to them, or any other retailer with similar dodgy deals. They should be banned from trading for 12 months (starting right after I receive my Eneloops).

      • Fined? that would be like issuing a parking ticket

Depends on the size of the fine.

    • +1

While Dick might be a dick it certainly isn't illegal to return prices to your normal retail price after one sale has finished and before another has begun. The issue here is the rolling sales that people expect to be the normal price. MANY retailers use perpetual or rolling sales as a marketing ploy. That fact that it pisses people off doesn't make it illegal.

  • +2

i stopped even bothering with the DSE deals after the last few times they did this… it's ok to be outraged but this isn't the first time they've done this and won't be the last :)

I could have sworn this telly was $100 cheaper this morning when I checked it - about 7.45. I applied the discount and it came to $499, and I remember thinking it was a good price.

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/dick-smith-54-5-138cm-full-hd-dl…

It is now at $599 after the discount.

The XB400 at $24.5 is currently the cheapest in Australia
    Beats oo.com.au by 47c lol

  • +3

They have done so well with recent Chromecast and Eneloop deals, great price, quick delivery - and now this PR disaster. Don't they know that it takes at least 10 positive things to make up for 1 negative in how people perceive you? Someone should teach Dick Smith some psychology.

    • +1

Excuse me? I was stuffed around for weeks with one of their last Eneloop fiascos. I ended up with my order cancelled and given no other option after spending hours on the phone and being promised numerous times that they'd ship. I ended up getting Chocolates instead of Japanese Rouge.

  • +1

Canon SX600HS a few days ago $186. During todays Mayhem $249.

  • I also disagree with these inflated specials, however they have had some great deals much cheaper than the other retailers in the past.

We are an informed community, who check history/competitors before making a purchase. These specials are aimed at the people who pay retail pricing at Harvey Norman (which I think are worse. Well actually, whoever are making up the massive retail pricing compared to the same product elsewhere in the world).

Dick was playing so dicky around 4am!

15% Mac discount needed to save your "reputation"(if there is any) Dick!

    • +3

Nah 20% off all games :)

      • +6

100% off all the BS. And possibly 100% off marketing management.

      • +1

Half price everything for one day!

        • -3

Well they are a Woolworths company, give us 5 stackable dick coupons

        • +6

@weskambul: Haven't been owned by woolies for about 2 years

        • @TRENT86: They're still associated somewhat given that staff users can still use their Woolworths discount card at Dick Smith and you can still use gift cards from Woolworths Limited at Dick Smith.

  • +4

Thanks other ozbargainer for pointing out the price increase, almost thought this is a good deal.

    • +2

Some of us saw Dick raised $200 for the 700D kit and something else, we were all like "WTF?!"

  • Of course the prices are hiked. Dse post a discount of a minimum 10% everyday. And everyone believes it and keeps purchasing. People need to know what product they want and know the prices before rushing to "discounts" it's the same with boxing day sales. It's false and misleading unless you know what you NEED and have done research. Discounts are for impulse buyers.. That's how dishonest dick, hardly normal, jb hi5 and the good guys make money.

  • +7

    very deceptive…

Their marketing department should create a Udemy course on how to be a Dick.

    (Not targeted at op)

  • The Garmin Zumo is not a bad price - it must be something they've had trouble moving. I couldn't see anything else that I considered really counted as a "good price" though.

  • +6

Why does Dick keep posting these "discounts"? Because it WORKS. People really need to wake up and do research before buying anything based on discount or coupons alone. Once again Dick has proven how poor his business practices are- for every 1 good (honoured) deal, there are 10 dodgy deals. If this wasn't an obvious scam the Dick Smith rep would be the first on here defending the price changes. Saying a previous sale and prices are constantly changing is NOT a justification. Even with the discounts prices are more expensive than other B&M stores. Here are Dick Smith tactics in a nutshell:

    1) Frequent "sales" and "discount codes" on a combination of obscure Chinese products only they sell (which they probably buy for cents) and a large number of products which they sell at uncompetitive prices. These sales almost invariably exclude popular products which are sold at a competitive price including Apple, Chromecast etc.

    2) Very rarely post discounts with no exclusions. While these are posted, competitively priced products such as Apple are either listed as "out of stock" or removed entirely from the website.

    3) Regular price errors, which they almost invariably gain extra sales from as people try to reduce the per item shipping cost.

    4) Scummy sales such as this one where the sale appears to be reasonably good value on paper, but they really increase the prices pre-sale so that even the post-sale price is a RIPOFF.

    5) Regularly pushing batteries onto OzBargainers which they must get good discounts for, buy in massive bulk and still invariably make a good profit from. Don't OzBargainers have enough batteries yet?

    6) Very rare good discount which is honoured (such as the macbook deals).

People really need to realise what they are buying into.

    • Once again Dick has proven how poor his business practices are

Dick Smith sold his electronics chain to Coles-Myer YEARS ago. I think this sort of tarnish on his name is what he would have most feared.

  • +2

This post is probably darkest chapter in monty's life on OZB….

  • +1

Dicksie, why you use MAYHEM code. Look what happened now. lol

  • +3

This is definitely wrong. They do great deals but to deceive people like this, we should all call ACCC. The head of ACCC looks into it himself if enough people call.

  • +2

Hahaha, it happened, this deal is truly mayhem.

  • Whats the first rule of Project Mayhem?

  • +2

Reported these dick practices to ACCC. Oh and also mentioned it's Dick Smith.

  • +3

Negging because of "Major issue with retailer". This is the umpteenth time they've pulled a shifty and changed prices before a sale (and seem to know they'll get away with it), and even when they don't jack the prices the likelihood an order will be cancelled (or worse, not cancelled or delivered, causing customers to enter the non-responsive your-request-has-been-forwarded-to-a-department-who-will-call-you back phone and email purgatory) is far too high. By promoting deals when extremely questionable sales practices are going on, we perpetuate bad behaviour.

  • +3

i dont buy from dick smith. last time i bought a ps4 and it delivered to my house took almost 2 months

  • +3

To be honest I'm not sure how these guys are still in business. They get away with all sorts of bullshit, I ordered Sanyo eneloop Tropicals made in Japan and they send out Panasonic made in China. I send an email, no reply. I bought a Galaxy Note 4 when in came down to $809.10 they cancel my order and don't return my money.

You call them and most of the time it just hangs up on the and when you do get through the customer service personnel have no clue what your on about.

    • I agree. So happy this happened. Now everyone can stay away and ds get ****ed up

  • Not related to this deal directly, but this is DS trying to contact me after they send a game to my old address

    Good Day,

    I need a Correct/Complete delivery address.

    I appreciate your immediate response.

    Thank you

    Nice one!

  • +3

    dodgy as practices. scummy.

  • +1

I always have thought the love of dick on here was too extreme.
My experiences in store have been shocking. I tried a price match one recently- even to get in the ballpark of what I could get the item for across town - they looked at me like I had 2 heads.

    • Getting denied a price match is considered a 'shocking' experience these days?

You should shop at Harvey Norman, probably get a heart attack.

  • +1

    Dicky creating Mayhem again

  • +3

It has happened twice my order was cancelled by DS.

  • +1

Shame on Dicksmith for playing their usual tricks. Really pathetic and not worth a retailer this size.

  • i can feel an extra 10% off code tonight.. Then I can finally get a $400 ps4 I have been waiting for

  • +3

    Tricky Dick as usual.

  • +2

    Shameful conduct by Dick Smith!!!

  • +2

Not so happy with Dick Smith anymore after they sent me Panasonic Eneloop instead of the Sanyo ones.

Hopefully the Current Affairs will be interested with this kind of stories.

  • +1

    What an absolutely Dick move!

  • +4

Neg for highly illegal and deceptive pricing. Untrustworthy seller. Major issue with retailer. Stay clear.

  • Can someone contact the dicksmith rep on here and see what they say?

    • I've tried PM-ing about an issue (as a customer, not a moderator) with an order and got no response.

      • I'm hoping they try to redeem themselves by posting some good deals here.

  • +2

Oh WoW Mr.Dick, so so dodgy. Very deceptive indeed!

  • +1

Harvey Norman must be giggling behind the scene now, lol
Harvey, now is the right time for you step into the game and shows us some heart ;P

Dicksie is in bad shape atm. One of his balls got seized by ACCC i think when he activated few MAYHEM codes

  • +2

Typical dodgy Dick! Like when they added Chromecast to an exclusions list after publication of a sale.

    • Here is the address - See you tomorrow.

2 Davidson St, Greenacre NSW 2190

  • I ordered a 1 hour special click and collect. I paid 2 months ago. Just got the email saying it is ready to collect…

    Nice one Dick…

    • Better late than never?

  • Well I was just about to post this as I got another email this morning about it… Shame that when posting deals if you put in the same code it doesn't warn you about duplication….

  • Does anyone have a photo of the CANON EOS 700D Single Lens Kit at $798 before they changed the price. If so could you upload it here

  • xxxxxxxxxxxxx Hello Everyone Has anyone got the picture advertising the old price on the canon 700d at the $798 pricing before they changed it… xxxxxxxxxxxx
