very disappointed with HN's system, remember the Sat deal, I paid and charged early in the morning for local pick up, have not heard from them ever since, was told my money was not received or something (money gone straight away on Sat morning and paid by credit card), and they keep on assuring to me that 'we serve customers based on first come first serve basis', really?

    • Next time call the store directly to reserve it - then you can get a name and a proper assurance that your item has been taken off the shelves :)

      • like this guy has said, common sense says ring the store give your name and number and when or if they sell your item to someone else, you can say they had your name and number and why they didnt at least call you first… then you have something to argue with… To me "first come first serve" goes to the people who got off their tight ass and went to the store to buy it FIRST.

Thanks I ended up getting the lumia 1520 and are selling my 1020 on ebay, worth the upgrade in everything else to get an ever so slight downgrade in camera. Will miss the 1020 camera grip though!

If you are travelling def go with the 1020! + grip. If you are media consumption with a great camera go the 1520! Very good prices even cheaper than grey imports.

What don't you like about your 1020?
What do you like about your 1520?

        • +3

          @Joe888:

          Both amazing phones!
1520, beast spec wise, great 1080 screen for media, camera is still fantastic easily good enough for standard photo prints (smaller sensor 2.5? compared to 1020 1.5? I think and also 2.4 instead of 1020 2.2? Apture… so not as good at night also 1020 has Xeon flash!). Expandable memory up to 128gb. No camera grip and can be awkward to hold and take pictures (might be me just used to my old 1020). Also no lanyard for wrist (very very disappointment on this admission :(

1020 Best bloody camera I have come across not only on a phone but beats 99% of point and shoots and even comes close to DSLR territory. In some cases even better than entry level DSLR's (I am waiting for the follow up to this 1020 and I will get that)!
Small screen but small size is a really nice practical take everywhere size. Camera grip is God sent! can pick up and shot with one hand (has lanyard hole for wrist!) also tripod mount and battery and shutter build in!
Don't expect to run much on it going into the future in regards to games, in terms of general windows OS it is smooth and fine! Also no expandable memory but has 32GB on board which should be enough although 40mp DNG files are 40mb each! BUT worth it!

I have the 1520 now I wouldn't go back, but 1020 is the only phone I will miss since upgrading (I upgrade phones very often! longest phone I had was the 1020 for 3 months lol).

Hopefully that gives you an idea of the benifits… OH one last thing!

Check what the Denim update does for the 1520 camera! the 1020 does not have the power to get these camera benifits, so after Demin the 1520 will have a not quite as good camera in terms of DNG quility photos but in terms of use will be much better!
Photos are less saturated compared to the 1020 and much more true to life colour representation, and speed of shooting and saving between shots much quicker, also check out the new tech with HDR changing after shooting… it combines flash shot, normal shot, and under exp shot and lets you use a slider to get the exact image you want!…

ANy both amazing phones, and now most everyday use apps are in the app store, if you want it for games get a dedicated handheld and not an android etc.

Nokia are king of camera phones.

        • @Joe888:
          Nokia Lumia 1520 Unlocked $431
          THIS IS CHEAP!!!

Why people bother with Android junk is beyond me!

The trick with Harvey Norman click and collect is to place the order then immediately go to the store and pretend you didn't know you had to wait for the ready to collect email.

Harvey Normans is not very good at this whole click and collect thing so if its something that might sell out you gotta get down there yourself.

      • Because as I saw year ago their click and collect system is only an email to the store.

  • now I clearly know the BB Q10 all gone, should I ask for refund now or wait till they fill the back order?

    • I would first speak to the online person to see if more stock will come, as far as im aware that phone was recently added so it should get more stock, or maybe it's a clearance item, is it an old BB?

      • it's BB Q10 Black, which is just $127, thanks for the tip, this is the first time such thing happened to me, this would stop me from purchasing online with HN

        • Sorry - hate to see op missed out. I bought one over the phone after online store sold out and picked it up in Gold Coast on Sunday. Hipe that one wasn't yours.

        • +1

always call store first! online is useless with HN!

    • I managed to grab one delivered back then(got confirmation email). They call me today and said that it's out of stock as it's a discontinued model (bs) an offer a refund, swap for bb z10 or they gonna try to look for ex-display bb q10 model. Let's see how this goes.

woah. goodbye dick. hello Gerry. Chromecast ever been under $33? Bought, thanks OP.

    • How long did it take Yu to get the $5 voucher?

      • About 5-10 min it should take

      • The $5 voucher comes through reasonably quickly.

        • I tried for few times now since the previous chromecast offer. Never got it! :(

    • +1

Yes I bought chromecast from COTD for $27 but I don't think they will have it again.

The Expansion Portable is a 2.5mm drive. It's not 9.5mm though, is it?

    • +1

      2.5"(inches) not mm.

    • +1

      Yes it isn't

      • +2

        No it is, yes.

    • +1

Haha. Typo. A 2.5mm drive would be a micro sd

  • +1

Don't know if get the 1520 or wait for the 1525 >_<

    Sooo much choice

    • Just grabbed the 1520, first impression excellent phone. Doubt you can get 1525 at this price.

BTw, thanks OP. I thought i missed out the Saturday deal. Went back to 700 on Monday. Cheers.

      • Price is not the question just the 1525 is due in the next few months that's all :P

        • ya but what will they upgrade? seriously in a few months you could ebay the 1520 for close enough to the same price… just keep the packaging and wrapping etc and keep it in like new condition… then use that to upgrade to 1525… common sense

    • +1

for this price get the 1520… there is very little that can be upgraded on the 1525 apart from camera that will make a difference in real world use.

  • +1

Anyone know if it is possible to use a giftcard on the website?

I'm trying to get the chat window to pop up on their site, but it just isn't working when I need it.

  • +2

Chromecasts are great. Shame I just never use mine.

    • Download plex, find some tv shows, and get streaming!

      • I already use a HTPC… I seriously have very little need for one, but OzBargain got the better of me!

    • +1

Mine is plugged in the back of the amp.

Power up that, fire the music at it, and I can listen on the big speakers without any TV on etc. - all controlled by voice from the tablet.

I didn't realise Nokia Lumia phones were this cheap. Very tempting

Anyone having problems signing up to their newsletter?

  • Keep getting 'Sorry! There was an unexpected error.
    Please try again.'
on the sign up page, was that closed?

    • +1

You can't use an email addy you have sign up with before, I just tried it and it still works fine

      • Yep, I had the same problem. Kept getting the "unexpected error." Of course I was using a new email address that never been used for signing up to HN before. I gave up….

      • I don't think I signed up their newsletter before.

      • Yes, that seems to be the cause of the error. Same happened to me and when I searched my email, I was getting mails from HN. On the plus side, the $5 welcome voucher from last year (which wasn't used, but supposed to expire in 100 hrs) worked fine and bought the chromecast for $33. Thanks OP :-)

        • Is the code reusable?

        • No, tried using it again, didn't work :-)

  • +1

I just purchased mine for $33 and got the confirmation. Also the gift voucher submission worked and I got the email within 30 minutes. The chat also works. you need to keep the browser open for like 5 minutes and the chat should POP up…

  • +2

Thanks, Bought a second Chromecast for $33. Not as good as the $27 from COTD but I don't think COTD will have that price again anymore.

  • Opinions on Lumia 925?

I'm looking for a low-mid range phone to replace my ageing Palm Pre 3 (running the now defunct WebOs),

Most important is smallish size (no bigger than 4.5"), decent battery life and ability to connect seamlessly to the Exchange server at work for email and calendar functions.

I have enough other devices to listen to music and play games and watch videos, so only need enough memory for a handful of apps.

In my experience, Windows Phone OS is only good for basic smartphone stuff. If you need connectivity, get a cheap android

      • +1

My Windows Phone has Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC and wireless charging. What more can an android offer that Windows Phone doesn't?

        • -1

          Apps & Games ;-)

        • +2

          @bobz79:

Most major apps and games found on Android and iOS are actually found on WP now, if not official ones then good 3rs party ones have been developed and supported.

It's been that way for a year or so now ;-)

      • -1

In my experience, Android is full of spyware, infact the whole purpose of the OS is to capture your data and resell it to third parties. If you need a real phone without the BS, get a Windows Phone.

        • I agree with you, but which company doesn't mine data? And yes, windows OS is fantastic for texting, calling, and basic browsing (although it can't read webpages like a android phone or a computer can)

        • -1

Sigh, it's a pity trolls have invaded OzB.

      • lol the negs. I dropped my Lumia 720 and bought a Moto G recently. The apps for android are just so useful (and free!)

    • +1

I've got a 920 and 1320, both excellent phones even today.

The 925 was high end about a year and a half ago and is still pretty damn good, 1320s battery life is amazing (it is 6" though, so kinda makes sense).

Think you'll enjoy the phone! Make sure to update to 8.1!

    • it is great phone for the asking price, wouldnt pay anymore though (although it is worth more).

    • +1

I'm rocking a work issued 625 and I love the phone. Was forced into it when I go the job and I'm an fan of the WP experience. My phone is a mere 512mb of RAM and it's just now starting to show its age. I only want a newer phone for a better camera and speedier experience.

The biz is now issuing iPhone 5c's and I've already told them "I don't want one…if someone swaps out a 925…GIMMIE!"

The only guy in the biz who has a 925 won't budge. He doesn't want to give it up either.

The ONLY reason I'm not going to snap up the 1020 or the 1520 on this deal is because I am curious to see what happens when Windows 10 comes out next year and i'm hoping to get the 930 at a good price when that happens.

EDIT CRAP…forgot about the deal I posted regarding the $100 Coles-Myer gift card…..must…resist….must…..

    • +1

you'll notice a big improvement in any WP over the Palm, 530 upwards - 925 being an excellent choice.

That yellow 1020 looks so good

Signed up to the newsletter for the $5 but been about an hour and no email yet. HN Online chat said it takes up to 24 hours. Great.

    • Mine arrived within 15 mins. I have using Outlook.com

Received confirmation and ready for pickup.

      • +1

I've tried three different email addresses and still no luck :(

Edit: Sent an email to HN Support and they said a response will be received in 2 business days. Wow.

  • Bought the canon mg2560 printer. Added some things to make it greater than $25 then applied welcome code. Thanks op!

  • to get the $5 voucher you need to sign up for an account with Harveys online. The links here are old.
    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/customer/account/login/

    • I have no problem with the link here.

    • Thank you. Finally worked for me.

  • signed up - no code given :-( no deal - I'll price match at OW instead

  • I want to buy the Chromecast but have an old tv that doesn't have the HDMI port, do you of any workarounds?

    • yes, buy a new TV

    • +1

Maybe you can connect it to an Hdmi Blu-ray player or recorder?? Don't see why it wouldn't work that way

      • Will I lose audio like what Jatacid suggested as well?

    • I think ebay has hdmi to vga converter plugs for a few bucks from China. But you'd lose the audio which is what makes hdmi so great. Buy a new TV

  • still dont understand what chromecast is

  • +2

Dick reduced price to match this ;-)

    Chromecast now only $37

I just picked up my chromecast and wow. What a frickin awesome device. Best part, as always, is the app support that just makes it work so seamlessly. (profanity) off Apple TV you ripoff

  • Anyone would share the code? please PM me as I'm still waiting and never receive.
    thanks.

    • I Pm You a code :)

      • That's awesome, how did you get the code so quick? ;P
        Thanks heaps.

        • I had it in email since this morning :)

  • +1

As I have come to expect from HN, yet another rip off and complete waste of time. Three months ago a $200 item got lost in the post. Still waiting on resolution.

Now this effing thing. Signed up. Then nothing, nada. no confirmation, no code.

I'll now stick to what I said years ago about this mob; stay away and in total pay a little less to people who care.

  • Any FREE DELIVERY codes for HN or Dicksmith?

  • …and I bought from dick smith!

  • How soon after the welcome email does the voucher generally arrive?

edit: never mind. I used an old code from last year.

I just noticed my email confirmation says my order is being reviewed. Any one else had this?

"We endeavour to provide a safe online environment for our customers by implementing routine checks for orders. This is to ensure that no purchase is made without the card holder's authorisation.

This review may take up to 24 hours. Please note, orders placed outside of business hours may not be processed until the next business day. "

    • Looks like order has now gone through.

  • Really tempted to downsize from sony z ultra to 1520, can anyone content on having had both?
Windows looks so much fresher than android after using nokia 520!

    • I got the 1520, worth the spending, battery and screen are first two most amazing things :)

  • 1020 sold out?

    • 925 gone too.

      • Both are back in stock guys

        • Yup, I noticed from the $8 Telstra starter pack post. Ordered the 925 and two starter packs. Thanks. :)

  • I think bonus camera grip gone from 1020 deal
