  • Does this give you 1GB of data for 30 days?

    • If you only want data, it's 2GB.

  • +2

Hell yeah. I knew they'd be on sale again as I prophesized here.

Didn't order too many because of possible expiry.

    • If they're about to expire, activate one on long life = 6 months, then activate the others and transfer the credit. After 6 months, recharge $30 again.

      • You lose 50 c per transaction IIRC and that ruins my plan of using each $30 for 3 months of Play Music. Thanks for the suggestion though.

    • You prophesized an item going on sale again that has routinely been on sale in the past? Wow, you really can tell the future!

      • +1

Lionheart1 is a rare one. I post a bit about these packs. People have been saying the $10 Telstra Starter Packs would never come back. They were last offered in March. I said it was too early to tell. So I'd be chuffed being the only one to have "prophesized" the return.

  • website has weird favicon
Its being hammered I reckon. Tried from my mobile, went through!

  • +2

Someone tell Dick Smith this is how you make a mobile website.

    • If Telstra can't get it right, they should just close their doors.

      • Yeah right cos it's not like huge corporations sometimes have total disasters for websites or anything right :p

  • I haven't checked if there is any stock at Harvey Norman Cannington WA, but for those with an AMEX card, it is listed on the shop small credits (despite not looking like a small shop). I already bought something there on Saturday and $10 credit has not appeared yet, also I didn't get an email from amex. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be on that list, but just putting it out there.

    • I just came back from Cannington WA. They have about 10 microsim left.

The bloke at Gepps X HN tells me they're in, in the morning

  • Anything for $1 that's available for in store pickup so I can use a $5 voucher?
Edit* found this "Crest Double Adaptor Left" for $2.50 so that works save to $2.50.

Never received my coupon so rather then let it go out of stock I placed my order instead.
    Excellent Deal op thanks!

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Bought two!!

  • Just got the weirdest popup message on Harvey Norman saying "Hello Ozbargainer, anything I can help you with?" anyone else get this?

    • +4

      They've caught onto the professionals.

    • Yep, got that too…

    • Got it also

    • Had that for a while. I remember it mentioned in one of the Harvey Norman deals earlier this year.

    • Probably just looking at the website referer. I hope ;)

      • Hopefully just assumes anyone using online shopping late at night for cheap bargains is an OzBargainer, will make some awkward conversations when they are not.

  • If I activate this in a Telstra 4G Wi-Fi Modem, it will become a 2GB 30 day data plan, with $30 credit? Is that right?

    • +1

      Activate as mobile broadband (correct)
yep buy apps etc with the 30 bucks

    • as far as I am aware you don't get 2GB AND $30. I data plan just gets you $30 worth of data which works out to 2GB. If you use 2GB there won't be any $ credit left. Maybe you can buy apps out of the $30 credit but then you wouldn't have that amount of data. eg if you bought a $15 app you would have $15 left which buys 1GB data. I know you can buy apps on a phone plan but not sure about a data plan (never tried).

      • Hi Turbo,

If you check the Telstra page on mobile broadband you do indeed get the data and the $30
i just activated recently and have both.

Maybe it is because i activated as a standard mobile broadband not the ipad deal ? (think that is unavailable now…don't have an ipad so…)

  • OP please add this to title https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/telstra_pre-paid_starter_p… ….will help many people

    • +1

      Done

  • how do you activate this just as data?

what do you say to the live chat person?

  • +3

Unfortunately not available near any stores near me. :c

    • Had to upvote you for your user name… Haha

Same here, so I just opted for it to be delivered. Still a great deal.

      • Same here. Used the $5 sign up voucher to offset the delivery fee. so all good!

  • I wonder if JB will price match.. They've got them for $15

    • Doubt it. They don't have a lowest price guarantee. Officeworks might.

  • just when i thought signing up to the data sharing sim with the free tablet was a good deal, this come outs.

  • Thanks OP ~ This is an excellent deal. Glad I did not buy this when it was $15.

    • Its not available anywhere (NSW) for pickup. Delivery is 5.95 bringing total cost to 13.95

  • Hi what one do I order for my iPad 2 for data use

    Thanks for the help

  • Still waiting for the $5 signup voucher :-(

    • +1

Decided not to wait for credit email & miss out on deal. Will use credit next time.

  • +3

Thanks OP…now i can finally top up my phone after nearly 3 months of zero balance :)

  • Can you use the credit towards unlocking a lumia 530?

    • Someone on whirlpool says it can.

      • But if you have had an account with Telstra for a while they do freebies if you are nice to them.

(had a modem unlocked for Nix a month a so ago.)

    • if u can't bagman will come to the rescue

  • Ordered 2, but received an email saying my order is being reviewed?!

    • Doesn't sound good!
I'm all good so far for a in store pickup

      • Which store?

        • Gepps cross sa

    • I got the same when I orderd 12 in the same order but received an email about 10 minutes after that confirming my order and that they will let me know when it's ready to be picked up.

      • Just received a confirmation too. All good :)

  • Any idea what the expiry date is on these SIMs?

  • I have bought 14 so far, in pairs. Who cares if the limit per order is 2 when there is free pickup?

Each $8 SIM gives me $30 play store credit. Either I fritter it away on apps I don't need, or I make an in-app purchase on my own app and get $20 cash back from google for each $8 SIM, woohoo

    • Haha, I heard about this before, nice one. Slightly dodgy though ;)

  • Ordered 4, can't go wrong at that price

  • So if I were to move to prepaid I could buy 3 of these for 3 months of usage at $8 each month? Then each month do I need to switch sim card and port my old number over?

    • +1

It's not quite that easy, as you can't port from Telstra to Telstra. You would need to get some $2 optus or voda SIMs and first port there, and then port back, which is a bit too fiddly for most people.

Personally I have one nokia feature phone which goes two weeks between charges, and have that with my public phone number, a longlife plan, and I never make calls with it. Each month I get another starter SIM from my drawer and put it in my android phone, get the free calls and data and play store credit.

  • Sold out in Vic :(

    • I ordered 5 packs a few mins ago and my order went through ok - unless they ring tomoz with bad news?

  • delivery to Vic is only $5 bucks, it still is a very good deal.

  • +2

I just pick it up at my local HN, the starter kit expired on 1 May 2015. But I think this is really depend on the stock.

  • Last time I bought these sims and when I activated them, I only got $30 credit, which lasted just for a few days :(

  • if these are transferable to the play store, whats stopping someone from purchasing the nexus 5 phone though the play store??

    • +2

      $20 limit

      • +1

        can u clarify?

        • +1

          Sure
          https://go.telstra.com.au/helpandsupport/-/google-play-on-my…

          (pre paid is the same)

" Why is my 'Bill my Telstra account' greyed out when I tried to purchase an album for $24?
The content that you are about to purchase has exceeded the content spend limit for a ‘one off' app, book, game, music or movie purchase using Bill my Telstra account as a payment option. This limit is set to $20 and can't be increased. If you want to purchase items over this amount you need to use credit card."

        • @snappy1234:

Thanks or replying, but what are people actually buying with the $20 limit? Just games?, I got this during the $15 deal and still have 2 brand new sitting in my car. Very interested what everyone is getting.

        • @aerona:

See whats available in my post.

          and teekay below ;)

          https://www.telstra.com.au/latest-offers/google-play

  • Sorry, dumbass question, but I couldn't find the details on the Telstra site. If I bought this for my IPad, I'd get 2gb of data, but what could I use the $30 credit on? It seems to be for calls/text which isn't relevant to me.

    • You don't get both. Either $30 credit or 2GB data.

      • -1

        Says who ?

I just activated around a week ago got both :)

      • Your recharge credit will roll over when you recharge before your credit expiry date ie: $30 or whatever value you have left
        from http://www.telstra.com.au/broadband/mobile-broadband/prepaid…

Teekay just activate as a normal mobile broadband sim if you want to use the $30 dollars.(or extend it)

        • Right, thank you snappy.

        • Sorry don't quite get it, if I chose the 2gb mobile broadband, I will be credited with $30 which I could use it on google play store? Or I need to activate it as voice/text account aka Freedom account to make use of the credit for Google play store ?

        • +1

          @cloudie9:

          Cloudie9

Do you mainly want the data ?
go for the Mobile broadband and have $30 for the apps etc :)

        • Remember, the more generous the rate on your data-acct/ broadband, the more telstra may withdraw of data on your purchasing play store. & flexible credit was born..:-)

        • @snappy1234: Cool thanks for the confirmation.

  • +2

price matched at Big W with minimal fuss. Thanks OP.

  • These are the cheapest I have ever seen them. I have confirmed orders for 24 packs. I have a few standard packs with that but will swap them over at a Telstra shop for Micro sims as they ran out of them. That should also extend my expiry dates. Thanks OP.

    • Cheers. I also got over 20 (21 to be precise). What do you use them for?

Personally I transfer all the credit to my main sim, and use that on Simplicity. With a $20/700MB data pack, and the cheap phone/sms, ends up being a really cheap entry into the best network in AU.

      • How do you get 700mb of data??

        • If you're on prepaid telstra, go to m.telstra.com and then extras, they have some data packs for offer. Same for postpaid too btw.

      • I do the same but firstly I register for freedom nights and then transfer the $30 to the long life or Simplicity sim so I get a months free usage then I can use the simplicity sim for the 2nd month and buy apps with the long life sim.I have a Sony Xperia 2 for my main phone then a cheapish feature phone for the simplicity sim and just swap the sims over depending on what month's sim I am using.

  • Any1 found a store that actually has these for pickup in NSW?

    • The only store I found is Campbelltown NSW

      • Campbelltown out of stock.

        Nowra has stock.

  • What is the expiry date on these?
How do you get both the 2GB data and the $30 google play credit?
    Thanks

    • +1

See the Telstra Starter Pack Wiki - it's explained there. The $30 credit is good for 2GB data. If you spend some credit at Google Play, you have less data left. You don't get both.

People are free to add to the Wiki. I have been a bit slack with updates, being out of the country.

      • Thanks Bruce.
So the $8 would give $20 google play credit? If I don't use it for data.

        • Sorry, a long time since I paid for anything on Google Play. Others will have more recent experiences. I'm in Tokyo, so Telstra is not really on my mind ;-)

        • @brucefromaustralia: Tokyo is an awesome city! Enjoy :-)
